Getting tangled up in Jamie Pearson's latest hot mess—or her sheets—is the very last thing Navy SEAL Leland Gates needs, but in close quarters like these, there's no denying the white-hot passion blazing between them.
When I’m not chasing after my wild preschooler, I like to write super sexy romances and scorching hot erotica. I live in Texas with a husband who could easily snag a job as an extra on History Channel’s new Viking series, a sweet but rowdy three-year-old with Tetralogy of Fallot, and Bosley, our Great Dane with major mommy issues.
I also have another dirty-book writing alter ego, Lolita Lopez, who writes deliciously steamy tales for Ellora’s Cave, Forever Yours/Grand Central, Mischief/Harper Collins UK, Siren Publishing and Cleis Press.
Pretty good story. It looks like this is the start of a new series so I can't wait to read the next books. I know the author is taking a while to get her books out due to health issues and I am still waiting on the release of the next Russian Protectors book.
"C’erano stati così tanti baci prima di Jamie, e troppi dopo di lei, ma nessuno era paragonabile a quello. Si continuava a ripetere che era tutto dipeso dall'eccitazione di aver, finalmente, assaggiato il frutto proibito, ma dentro di sé sapeva che non era così. Sapeva che c’era qualcosa in Jamie, qualcosa di speciale che nessuna donna della terra poteva sperare di possedere."
Leland and Jamie, A Navy Seal and an Heiress what a combination.
Leland has loved Jamie but their age difference and the fact of her being his sister's best friend kind of puts things in perspective for him. Leland says she is off limits but one night during the Christmas holiday he shares an explosive kiss with her but reality came crashing back down and he all but tossed her out of his room. In a hurry to apologize to her for what he had done, Leland sees Jamie coming out of his cousin's bedroom looking rather disheveled and that one moment everything changes for him, the next day when she comes over to bring the family Christmas gifts, he makes is perfectly clear that he wants absolutely nothing to do with her. That was five years ago and now the present is here, and as the fates would have it these two are going to come face to face one last time whether they want the shhow down or not.
Jamie has always wanted Leland, the night of their kiss changes everything for them and in her mind she was going to be with the man of her dreams but the next day shatters everything for her when Leland makes it perfectly clear that he wants nothing to do with her. Not knowing or understanding what happened or what to do, Jamie takes off and finds herself traveling all around the world on treasure hunts and doing some of the most dangerous stunts for an exhilirating high to mask the pain. Leland's family has always been her family and although Jamie comes from extreme wealthy she would rather be with her best friend Peyton more than anything. But Jamie has not set off a chain of events that has caused her to flee to Leland's family cabin out in the middle of nowhere. And Leland is on his way to his family cabin (unbeknowest to either one of the other being there) to try and heal from his latest battle as a Navy Seal. Bruised and Battered all he wants to do is get away for awhile. But there will be no rest for Leland because Jamie is there and one thing he knows about her is that she is always into something. For her to be out in the middle of nowhere means she is in trouble.
Jamie comes face to face with Leland after five long years, what will happened between these two? And can Jamie tell Leland what she has done? Leland always in protective mode knows Jamie is in trouble and he will protect her with his life but who is going to protect Leland's heart against the one woman who has always had wrapped around her finger. Will Jamie and Leland finally stop avoiding one another to come together or will they miss their chance of being together once and for all?
This is a great story of how a misunderstanding and no communication can turn horribly wrong and allowing time to go by because of stubborness and fear of a broken heart. I love author Roxie Rivera's stories because she knows how to weave a tale that will suck you in from the first page and hold you in a vice like grip until the last page is read.
Love a SEAL every time ! In this short story, Leland is a hot alpha SEAL, and is resting from injury for a week. He heads to the family cabin, and his love, Jamie who was too young then, is just what he still wants now. They are sharing the cabin, she needs help, interesting story, twists and turns, and great characters, make this a book worth reading. Roxie Rivera is a terrific writer. I loved her Russian Protector series ! ENJOY !!
Yes, another hot SEAL story, with a mix of a steamy romance and intrigue - perfect makings of an entertaining book. Leland and Jamie had known each other for years, after all, she is his sister's BFF. They both have had feelings for each other since the teenage years, but, of course, there has been some misunderstandings. I enjoyed that Leland and Jamie cleared up the misunderstandings early on in the story, and were honest about their feelings to each other. The story gets rather... steamy (HOT!), and the heat level is high up. But it is a very loving and tender romance. The intrigue and threat, grows as the story unfolds. And the recuperating SEAL gets to save his girl from real danger, when the menace finds her even in the cabin. Close Quarters is well written, the sizzling story has a lovely flow, and an epilogue, that gives the book a satisfying ending. ~ Four spoons!
Jamie Pearson is in trouble. She goes to her best friend's cabin to hide. But problem is, someone else shows up as well. Leland Gates is a Navy SEAL and is on leave looking for time alone. What he doesn't expect is someone already staying in the family cabin. Jamie and Leland have had a thing for each other for years but Leland ignores at best he can. Now they can't avoid each other. It gets really steamy in the cabin. But their little bubble doesn't last for long when the person after Jamie, comes along to burst it open. Leland is now more then determined to keep Jamie safe but also make her his.
Close Quarters was a great short book to read. Roxie Rivera does an awesome job bringing her characters to life. I am looking forward to many more books.
I love Roxie Rivera. She's one of my auto buy authors. While I've enjoyed a majority of her books, this short story was more of a miss for me.
It wasn't a bad read per se, just very predictable. It follows the basic formula: heroine is BFF with hero's sister, H/h secretly have the hots for each other for years, heroine gets tied up in some hot mess, villian attacks heroine, hero saves the day, they live HEA. I don't mind those typical storylines. I actually love it, in fact. I just wanted something less predictable.
Plus, there were some grammatical errors and typos that I found in the story which made me stumbled as I was reading.
Overall, not bad but not great. It made for an easy and quick read.
I totally enjoyed this book-Jamie a makeup heiress and Leland-a navy seal who Jamie's loved since childhood. Leland is her best friends brother and a hunk. Jamie has set out to prove that her dads partner caused her dads accident to have him murdered. Leland has some r&r since being shot and heads to his fathers cabin in the woods only to find Jamie staying there-now he's concerned what she's got herself into.
You must know prior to reading this is a novella not a full length book! Book was fantastic however was predictable unlike her usuals. This could be based on fact it's a novella regardless it was still a hot and great read if surely recommend for any Roxie fan~ was great to see lone star mentioned and hector based on other novels of hers as they all seem to intertwine overall good short read!
2.5 stars. Meh. I'm usually a big fan of Rivera's works; however, this one was not a big hit for me. I didn't understand all that wasted time. The plot was alright. I didn't care for the characters either. Wasn't a bad read because I did finish it after all. I guess I was just expecting more from this particular author?
Jamie and Leland certainly know how to screw things up. Both are too stubborn to acknowledge their mistakes or to talk things out until things come to a head. I liked Jamie's strength and Leland's protectiveness. Plenty of action in and out of the bedroom.
Sweet read, sadly it's too short. The story and its character could have been filled out more especially the hero. That's the reason I took it down a star, because the storyline was good and the characters interesting.
Really good novella. I love this author. New series that I know I'm going to love. Sweet love story and the chemistry between Leland and Jamie was hot and I love a Seal with a hard rock body and a sense of honor. Can't wait for the next book. Happy reading!!
3 1/2*. OK start to a new series from a new to me author. No idea who the next book is going to be about though as we only got to met Leyland and Jamie.
