Devil's Plaything

Rate this book
A dangerous man. A simple woman. A love neither ever expected.

They call him Devil, the name he was born to and one that he’s more than earned. Devil has no misconceptions about who he is and what he deserves.  At least he didn’t until he met her…

Despite hardship, Julie Manchin has managed to make her way in the world, and while her life isn’t glamorous, she’s satisfied with her uncomplicated existence.  But when she crosses paths with Devil one fateful night, her small, orderly universe is upended.

Swept up in a whirlwind of passion that she doesn't quite know how to handle with a man she never imagined, can Julie break through his tough exterior and become something more than Devil's plaything?

Devil's Plaything is a 30,000 word interracial standalone, and the first book in the new Playthings series. The book features curvy heroine and her mysterious lover, explicit sexual content, and is intended for readers over eighteen.

I enjoyed this story. I like this author's work.

D was in control of the relationship and I think Julie was even intimidated by him a little. The the incident in the hospital happens and the tables are turned. Julie becomes the dominant one and she tells him what she wants and he does all he can to please her.

I thought it ended a little abruptly but it did not spoil my enjoyment of the story.

Devil knew that he was bad for Julie Manchin, but he couldn't stay away. As an underground fighter, he is brutal and his interest in Julie wont go unnoticed. Julie doesn't even know Devil's name, but her body and heart wants him. Can Devil give Julie what she deserves, a serious commitment or will it always be just a no strings attached affair?

This one for me was a bit disjointed. I was trying to warm to the story but I couldn't warm to Devil. I may try again at a later date to see if my critique changes.

That's so...Blue!

Kaye Blue has gifted us with another Interesting story with complex characters that those of us who love her work are so familiar with. D'yavol and Julie meet when She is being harassed on her way home and D'yavol steps in to rescue her. The two begin a very odd and mysterious relationship but ,somehow it works. I don't want to give too much away but, this was really unique and interesting book.

Good book but…

It’s a great book, lots of actions (if you get my drift) but the only problem I had with this was that (mini spoiler, idk) it the classic male rescue female, but then all of a sudden they doing the dirty. There’s nothing about how they led up to that point just a huge jump. But beside that small detail it’s a great book, do read.

Details Make the Story.

The more I read , the more I needed to read because I couldn’t conceive what was the common denominator between Devil (D’yavol) and Julie. When it was revealed, the connection made the whole outline fall into to place.

Boring

This didn’t feel like a finished book. It was more like a draft of a story that need more work.

Lousy Ending!!

The ending was a real let down. It left a whole lot of unanswered questions. Very disappointing to say the least

Five star until the end

I really enjoyed this book. Julie has been sleeping D'yavol for the past year. He comes and visits her, but she doesn't even know his name. When he gets injured, and doesn't let her express her concern in public, she's had enough, and their relationship changes.

The storyline was a good one, and I liked the development of the relationship between the H and h. The sex in this book was hot. I really enjoyed both of these characters, though I don't like how D'yavol could leave Julie for weeks at a time. I also didn't like the fact that we didn't see how their sexual relationship began. We saw how they met, but not anything else. The book started out with them having already met and started having sex. I also didn't like the ending. I would've like to have seen the final showdown with the MC, since it was an issue throughout the story.

Overall I really enjoyed the story, and couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the next in the series.

My first read from Lydia Rowan and I really enjoyed. I always love when authors have larger heroines, especially when they have super sexy, alpha heroes who love their ladies with a little extra weight. Julie works hard at the hospital and tries to keep her head down. Her job isn’t glamorous, her apartment’s a little run down, but she finds joy in the arms of a man who’s name she doesn’t even know. Devil tries to keep his head out of the neighborhood drama but when he sees Julie being hassled by local gang members he can’t be idle. That chance meeting lead to extremely hot and sexy encounters but when they both decide they want more can they take the connection they feel in the bedroom and build it to something more? Great, sexy read. A little danger, a little mystery, a great start to a new series.

Okay so I really loved this book, my only hang up was that I felt I was jumping into it right in the middle. I didn't feel like it had a proper beginning or end and I liked it so much that I wanted so much more.
I understand the limitations that an author has when they only have such a limited word count to work with. I don't know if that was self chosen or if it was given but I'm hoping for a prequel and a sequel or a re-release with a full novel and a full story complete with introduction of background history and development and a happy ending to make it all worth while. I enjoyed the characters, the interaction and I really loved the heated love scenes. Devil's Plaything is fantastic.

I really didn't like this book. I thought that their was no plot at all to the story. There was really nothing exciting or noteworthy about this book. Characters and plot line were both underdeveloped. Grammatical and spelling errors are two of my biggest pet peeves when I am reading a book. They ruin my enjoyment of a well written story which this was not. This book had several grammatical errors. I would say don't waste your time on this one.

I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this book! I only wished the story had been longer. The story was different in that D'yavol and Julie had been in this intimate relationship for a year without her even knowing his name: she, because she loved him; he, because though he did love her, feared he would lose her because of his lifestyle. Excellent job! I look forward to more of Ms. Rowan's works!

Devil's Plaything was a fast, OK read. Julie is such a sweet girl, but to put up with how she was treated for a year...without even knowing his name?? Just hard to believe anyone would even contemplate doing such a thing. (even if the sex WAS awesome!) Once she decides to call it quits or learn more about D then the story was much better.

I liked this book. It was a different, but sweet love story. However, it had potential to be more and should have been more. The writing was so good and the premise so nice that the length is a MAJOR con in my opinion. I also thought the ending was too neatly and quickly wrapped up. But it was an HEA, and I did like it overall.

Different, at least the beginning was, you have to keep reading to get to the how and when they met.

Julie and D'yavol/Devil's relationship at the beginning was purely based on sex, it graduates to more further along.

I would tell you more but honestly it is not a long read.

If this was longer, this would have been a 4.5 star book. I could really only give it two stars b/c the characters, although very interesting, they were underdeveloped b/c of the length of the book. I would really love to see a fuller novel one day.

Unexpectedly sweet

I expected the usual "Me Tarzan, you Jane" type of "thug romance," but this was actually sweet. Julie is a kind, gentle soul, but neither stupid nor too stubborn for sense. Devil is conflicted, a violent man learning peace due to the love of a good woman.

I just couldn't get past the idea that she would actually name a gang the Steel Hearts - it is so stupid it almost ruined the story for me

I really liked D'yavol and Julie; especially D'yavol. This will be on my "gosh, I liked that book; I think I'll read it again" list.
