Billionaires and Bridesmaids #2

The Taming of the Billionaire

Rate this book
The New York Times bestselling author of The Billionaire and the Virgin returns with a tale of Shakespearean-style seduction…

Edie’s an overbearing cat behaviorist who’s not big on people. Magnus is a newly-rich game developer who likes to be in control. When the two of them meet at Gretchen and Hunter’s masquerade engagement party, the loathing is mutual. Unfortunately for them—and everyone else—they’re in the wedding party together and must deal with each other for the next few months.

But when Magnus’s younger brother falls for Edie’s sister, he begs for his brother’s help in concocting a plan to win her over. If Magnus can keep the prickly Edie occupied, his brother will have time to woo Edie’s sister. Of course, Magnus isn’t interested in the slightest, but Edie is…intriguing. And stubborn. And smart. And sexy. And they might have more in common than they thought.

Before long, it becomes a challenge between the two of them to see who will be tamed first. But how’s Edie going to react when she finds out that Magnus is using her? And how’s Magnus going to handle the fact that he’s fallen for a cat lady?

This is a pen name for Jill Myles.

Jill Myles has been an incurable romantic since childhood. She reads all the 'naughty parts' of books first, looks for a dirty joke in just about everything, and thinks to this day that the Little House on the Prairie books should have been steamier.

After devouring hundreds of paperback romances, mythology books, and archaeological tomes, she decided to write a few books of her own - stories with a wild adventure, sharp banter, and lots of super-sexy situations. She prefers her heroes alpha and half-dressed, her heroines witty, and she loves nothing more than watching them overcome adversity to fall into bed together.

3.5 stars!

This is one of those books that made me go, "Hmm..." I enjoyed it quite well enough. The dialogue between the hero and heroine was on point. It had a lot of sexy times and there were laugh out loud moments which made this a joy to read. Yet somehow something is keeping me from giving this a full 4 stars.

My problem for one is Edie. To say that Edie is a bitch is putting it mildly. I liked that she wasn't your usually sweet heroine and that she was bitchy but it also made me dislike her. Yeah, I know. Confusing isn't it? To say that Edie has a giant chip on her shoulder would be an understatement. Edie figured in a skiing accident which busted her knee leaving her to walk with a limp. One of her friends in the book said that it wasn't the accident or the limp which made her bitchy, that was her attitude long before she had an accident. She can cut down anyone to size and doesn't tolerate stupidity. I wish I had seen this side of Edie because as it stands in the book, her accident made her out to be a bitter person. And while it might be justified to some extent, it wasn't a good look on her.

But like I said, despite that, I quite like her take-no-prisoners attitude. She was upfront about it and the other characters around react accordingly to her and didn't treat her like a saint.

Magnus was a wonderful hero. He started out befriending Edie under less than honorable circumstances but he quickly grew on me. Despite his successes, he showed vulnerability and of course, once he decided he couldn't live without Edie, he was into it 101%. One thing I also liked about Jessica Clare and her billionaires is that her billionaires actually show the type of work ethic that makes you believe that they are indeed billionaires--you know, the long hours, projects that needed finishing, etc. There's nothing more annoying than reading about a billionaire hero that does squat but follow the heroine all day like a love sick puppy.

The only other obvious negative aside from my feelings for Edie are feelings for the rest of the secondary characters especially Edie's beautiful but manipulative sister Bianca and Magnus lazy, whiny brother Levi. Yeah, I'm not even going there. I felt like too much of the story revolved around those two. It was annoying because both annoying. That's all I'm going to say about that.

Despite those little annoyances, I liked this one very much.

Calling all cat lovers...you definitely need to read The Taming of the Billionaire by Jessica Clare. This book happens to be the second installment of the spin-off in the Billionaires and Bridesmaids Series. I will just say that there is nothing like reading a billionaire romance books written by Jessica Clare. Ms. Clare never fails in delivering a sexy, fun, swoon-worthy billionaire romance that will have readers wanting their own billionaire. And in The Taming of the Billionaire, she not only delivers a hot sexy sweet romance but she made it fun and quirky that will have readers purring MEOW when they meet the sexy yet geeky gamer billionaire, Magnus Sullivan.

#TheTamingofTheBillionaire

Magnus Sullivan is your geeky billionaire that made his fortune with his brother, Levi by creating a gamer's app that has hit worldwide phenomenon. Magnus relies on Levi to help him create these new upcoming gamer apps, but in all honesty mostly Magnus does all the work. So when a new game that they are developing is approaching a deadline, he needs Levi to get back on track to help him come up with new ideas for the game but Levi is distracted with his infatuation with Bianca, a woman that he met at Gretchen's wedding planning dinner party. Bianca happens to be the sister of Edie, one of Gretchen's bridesmaid.

Edie is one Gretchen's closest and dear friends. She happens to be a feline behaviorist hence she is a bonafide cat lady!!! During this informal pre-wedding planning party, Edie and Magnus did not get along. She thought Magnus was an arrogant billionaire and he thought she was too snarky and feisty. So when Magnus asked Edie out and hires her to help him with his newly adopted cats, it completely surprises her. She couldn't figure out why Magnus wanted anything to do with her. As Magnus and Edie spent more time together, he finally saw Edie for who she is: a beautiful, caring, giving and selfless woman. As Edie finally lets Magnus into her heart, what happens when she finds out that Magnus only asked her out so his brother and her sister can continue a secret relationship? As secrets and truths unfold, will Edie end up as the lonely cat lady? Or will Magnus be able to redeem himself and show her that he did really love Edie?

The Taming of the Billionaire is a sweet, touching yet fun billionaire romance read. Though the book is mainly on Magnus on Edie, it did highlight and showcased that Magnus and Edie had to really reevaluate their relationships with their siblings. Magnus need to realize that maybe he didn't really need Levi as much as he thought and for Edie, she had to really step back on her relationship with Bianca. So if you are looking for a fun, sweet, sexy summer read then I would definitely recommend you to read The Taming of The Billionaire. And if you are a cat lover, then this book is a definite must one-click!!!

Shakspeare will groans and rolled on his grave if he is reading this book. Not in a good way.

And for me, I like it OK. Not 4 stars OK, but 3 stars OK. I like Edie. She is a kick ass and independent character. She does not take shit from other people and she is confident despite her handicap. I wish Magnus character can be more louder. For me Magnus is drowned by Edie's kick ass. He seems hopeless.

The story is taking an inspiration from 10 Things I hate About You. Even Magnus description is mirroring Heath Ledger.
I always enjoy Jessica Clare's book.

This was cruising for a two star if for no other reason than two of the MOST IRRITATING CHARACTERS EVER: the siblings of the hero and heroine. Bianca and her big flirty eyes, baby voice, smothering sisterhood as well manipulations needs to be staked to an ant hill. The H's brother is not much better.

The story was redeemed, but more about that later.

Essentially the H's brother has a crush on Bianca and wants the H to distract Edie, Bianca's older and bitchier sister. Why a grown woman needs to be babysat so another grown woman can go on her gold-digging date is beyond me. Edie had had a terrible accident which has left her with a limp and Bianca is there at the ready to take her around and irritate the hell out of everyone but the H's idiot brother.

So the two irritants maneuver the H to adopt a bad cat since Edie is a cat whisperer, and they can ensure she keeps out of Thing 1 and Thing 2's hair if she's teaching the H how to deal with a crazy cat. The H goes from a reluctant date to IN LOVE a little too soon, okay, basically after they have sex. Quelle surprise. The two get quite close as in he buys her an apartment which she refuses. I guess the "Billionaire" in the title can explain that away.

The crisis hits win Edie finds out two pieces of important info at the same time. Surprise #1.

Surprise #2 comes as the H comforts Edie about this revelation, and he confesses the original plan that he only acted interested because he was asked to. He also tells her loves her desperately now. Feeling betrayed Edie leaves to stay with heroine from Beauty and the Billionaire. Points lost here because, dudette, he said he loves you.

The redemption comes in his response to her question, "How can I trust you again?"

The H doesn't grovel. Nope, he goes big in a way every heroine real or fictional should have.

Sorry for a disjointed review. I'm distracted by Mr. Monk and his Biggest Fan with Sarah Silverman.

I have to say I am a sucker for a Billionaire book. Hey, things only get better with cash, right? This one has all of the makings of a typical billionaire book except that there are many humorous parts that are so totally kooky, you just have to shake your head.

I have never read this author before, but because it had the billionaire aspect to it, I was hoping for an excellent read. I was not disappointed! This book takes a somewhat typical storyline and combines 2 totally mis-matched people together. The results are a fun read with a sweet workaholic guy and a bitchy, braid wearing, cat obsessed chick who is often misunderstood. But they both have total sibling issues that helps to bring them together. It also offers some dang HOTTT scenes that will make you re-read it over and over!

The ending offers some wonderful surprises and a lovely HEA. I was totally impressed with this read. Jessica Clare is one to watch for steamy reads with a unique characters and a great storyline too.

The heroine was a cat lady!! *fist pump* Hell fucking yeah!! The Taming of the Billionaire was fun, sexy, full of pussies (of the feline variety of course! you dirty bird), had a fabulous heroine and one sexy beast of a hero that was a gaming geek to boot.

Now. For a while there I was thinking quite a few people in this book needed to have surprise headline making "bus mows them down" accidents.

When I finished it...I felt much the same. lol Thankfully the hero redeemed himself and no longer needed to go splat.

See. The hero had a bit of assery going on and to get what he wanted--his brother to buckle down and work on their gaming project-- went along with a scheme to distract the heroine and pretend to like her so his brother could hook up with her sister.

Mmhm. That's where the bus mowing his douchy self down would come into play.

But thankfully he kind of fell for his girl and realized he was a huge fucking wanker.

I actually really loved this one. Edie was a heroine I totally related to because, hello, I'm a cat lady too. She loves her kitties and helping those in need--she's a feline behaviorist. She struggles with an old injury to her knee that holds her back in a lot of ways and makes her reliant on her sister (one of the bus mower downees), can be downright bitchy though I kind of loved that too and totally embraces getting a little down and dirty. And Magnus. Well I loved his opposites. He's rich as sin and oh so sexy but he's also a coding nerd and can get lost in the video games he makes. He doesn't always make the best decisions but he's also one that's hard to keep a hate-on for. And when the man grovels...he fucking GROVELS! And does so in a spectacular make a girl cry way.

They were good together too. Sexy and funny and full of all kinds of yummy passion. Some pretty hot sex scenes too as they spent time together and each tackled their issues with their siblings.

All in all it was a pretty fun read. Made me growly a couple times over some of the jerky side characters but I really did love the characters, the romance and one of the best 'big gestures' I've ever read.

Edie is used to being misunderstood by others but it is what makes her who she is. When she begins her bridesmaids duty for her best friend Gretchen she overhears several of the groomsman labeling the women using one word that hits home "cat lady", so what if she is. With her hackles up she finds herself by one of the guilty party, Magnus a billionaire with marbles in head.

Magnus can feel the venom coming from Edie. He knows there is no way to crack through her marbleized exterior and has no plans in trying. However with his deadline looming he needs his brother focused and unfortunately his brother has deemed himself in love again with no one other than Edie's sister. He enlists Magnus help to keep Edie busy so he can spend time secretly with her sister.

How on earth is Magnus supposed to befriend a woman who has made it clear her disdain for him. His brother has a plan, adopt a crazy cat with behavior issues and call Edie in. What Magnus finds most surprising though is the more time he spends with Edie the more enchanted he becomes.

2,5 Punkte.

4 furry stars

Edie is my kinda girl, hands down.
She's grumpy, snarky and I love this bish.

Apart from the mentioned grumpiness, she is also a talented cat whisperer and a crazy cat lady with a limp who has all the love and compassion for animals, especially those in need.
Oh, and she's constantly covered in cat hair.

And as a mother of one slightly deranged, furry individual, and a crazy cat lady myself this is definitely something I can relate to.

I really loved the humour and all the snappy comments between Edie and Magnus.
I loved how their romance progressed.

And I absolutely loooooved Gretchen and Hunter here.

So why not 5 stars?

Well, that's very simple.

The reason has a name.
And it's Bianca, the gold-digging, two-faced hoe also known as Eddie's sister.

Were I Eddie, I'd go all ghetto on her pathetic mendacious ass and slap the shit outta her.

I definitely wouldn't forgive her.

Because if your so called sister jumps into bed with your boyfriend at the time, is this something one could forgive?

No, I don't think so.

No amount of tears and apologies could ever make me change my mind about it.

And maybe that's just me being stubborn and getting too involved in this fictional drama lol, dunno. But that bitch deserved to suffer and for the fact that she didn't I couldn't give this book 5 stars.

But I loved everything else here and will surely grab another one from the series.

A great read for cat lovers.
They will deffo relate.

A perfect book for in between! As always I think that Jessica Clare's books are amazingly cute and funny, and just books that get you in a good mood. They have a lightness to them which makes them perfect for a quick and sexy read. After finishing the first book in this series I already knew that I also wanted to read this one, and it was just as cute if not more. For me as a total catlover it wasn't hard at all to relate to Edie just because we shared the same love for cats. The cats did make this a heart-wrenchingly adorable novel and me, in turn, very happy. Magnus and Edie are, of course, also a sweet couple and I did root for them. The beginning was great and the fact that Edie had an iron backbone made me feel so proud and also was very entertaining to read about. I also think that in this book, after having some trouble getting used to Gretchen in the first book, I kind of warmed up to her and her quirky ways. So all in all, a sexy and romantic novel that warmed my booklover-heart.

This is the second book in the Billionaires and Bridesmaids series by Clare, a spin off series from her complete 6 book Billionaire Boys' Club series. Edie and Magnus are attendants in Gretchen and Hunter's upcoming wedding (see previous series). They meet at a dinner party given by the happy couple and pretty much hate each other. Then there is some lying and manipulation by their respective siblings, to which Magnus agrees to participate in, and then they don't hate each other as much.

I have nothing personal against cats. I'm highly allergic to cats, so for me images of cat hair and cats rubbing up against me equals misery, an inability to breath, and a swollen face. As cats play a prominent role in this love story, I just couldn't get into it. People who love cats will probably rate this much higher. Edie has 7 and Magnus has 2. Therefore, their HEA involves an army of 9 cats living with them. No. Just no.

This is my favorite billionaire romance by Ms. Clare so far - I really connected with Edie, and Magnus really came through in the end. I’d definitely recommend for those who love a little prickly banter (and lots of cats) in their romances.

Chris McGranitt - per RFS
.

I was all this is gonna end badly, this is gonna end badly *biting nails* Men!!!

I liked Edie, she was real. Yes people said she was bitchy, but the girl just had a bit of edge on her. She had a bad knee and limped. She loved cats. I adored her.

But poor woman. Her sister. Sheesh! Overbearing, manipulative little bit##! She still loved her sister, but the way she made Edie dependent on her, not cool.

Which brings us to the men. Magnus was, ok I can forgive the talk in the beginning. I can even forgive him doing what his brother told him, even if he should have told her earlier. Because, omg, he starts to love cats! *melts*

His brother was an idiot who fell for a pretty face. I did want to hit him several times...make that every time I saw him *gives him the evil eye*

Oh and Gretchen is awesome! But yikes the mouth on that woman.

As you can see a great cast. I liked how they started to fall for each other, even if the game at the beginning was pretty unforgivable. But he was a truly nice guy! And I liked that she was not perfect.

And it had cats!

And very smexy dirty talk smexin. Which I do skim since I am weird, but if you like that then you will certainly like this.

These billionaires are fun to read about.

This had to be one of my favorite Billionaire books from Jessica Clare. I absolutely fell in love with Magnus and Edie. Edie is so sharp tongued and Magnus is so brash the mash and clash so perfectly. Their banter is never to snarky of forced but perfectly matched. I also adored the way Ms. Clare had their relationship bloom, there was no insta love or even insta like it all had to grow through normal channels and a little coercion. If you want a Billionaire story that keeps you interested this is it!

Mixed feelings about this one.

So, the stuff with the cats hit my sweet spot. And it's everywhere in this book. That alone may warrant a reread. It just was so comforting and real and so much about cats and tending to their needs and loving them and I just needed that so much.

The disability rep was complicated for me. There was a lot that felt so real and resonated so much. And I love grumpy curmudgeonly disabled characters, just love them, and as this one was a loose adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew, she really got to be grumpy. The disabled MC had a bunch of complex stuff going on in her significant relationships around her disability. A caretaking controlling relationship with her sister where she was constantly treated like a helpless burden. A less controlling more supportive relationship with access intimacy that still made me uncomfortable in some ways that may have been more about the way heteronormativity was working in the relationship. A friendship with someone who treated her as capable and was very caring but not in a controlling way. The book really textually challenged the way her sister treated her, and also challenged the way her love interest was occasionally careless around access.

It definitely felt like the book was engaging with disability rep in a complex way; she got to be annoyed about access problems, irritated about her pain levels and limitations, and also be intensely capable, respected, complicated, care about things other than her disability, get annoyed when people were pitying or treated her like she was helpless. There were moments when she pushed herself beyond her capacity and I wish we could have seen the impact of that more, but we did see it some. She never took pain medication, did PT or did much of anything to tend to her chronic pain or injury, never went to the doctor, and that felt off. All in all, I appreciated the representation, which resonated in some deep ways with my experience of having a similar injury.

What felt off was the way money was working in the story. Money didn't seem real. Her being a disabled consultant dependent on her sister for transportation who never seemed to make enough money but lived in a townhouse and never seemed to actually live in poverty or struggle financially other than reference it occasionally...it just felt false and very different from my experience being poor and disabled without a job that gave health insurance. It mostly just felt like the author didn't think much about how money was working in any of the characters lives, other than wanting some characters to be billionaires and some to be poor.

The sex scenes were odd, like primers for pleasing a woman, in this way that felt very false, like the LI was a fantasy man who cared about his partner's pleasure and had to demonstrate it constantly, but was also a real virile man, which you could tell by his casual sexual objectification, big cock, billions, and possessive protective misogyny. In general the LI was thinly drawn and I never quite got who he was, never was rooting for him or for them as a couple. He seemed very much like a fantasy, one who understood Edie's needs and was focused on meeting them, in all arenas. He didn't have much specificity at all, and in the places he did, I found him irritating.

I had hoped for a geeky book, and this was not one, despite it having a game developer MC and even some time at a gaming convention. If you want geek romance, might I draw your attention to: Level Up or Strong Signal or Sated or Looking for Group or The Seduction Hypothesis or Defying Convention.

The writing was...difficult. I like transparent prose, like plain talk, don't need beautiful sentences in my romance. But listening to this in audio made the overuse of some words (like "utterly") and the abundance of cliches really grate.

I will say that this was a hard earned happy ending that actually felt like it earned it. I wasn't sure how it could possibly work out, but I believed by the end.

Trigger Warnings:

5 Crazy Cat Lover Stars

Cute read about a billionaire who falls for a crazy beautiful cat lady. Magnus is a game developer and is also part of Hunter's groomsmen. That is where he met Edie and where our story begins....

“Magnus groaned, pressing kisses to her mouth. “I love you, too. Come back to me. We’ll fill the apartment with cats and frighten everyone we know with our pet hoarding.”

I liked the angst when heroine found out that Hero initially asked her out as a favor to his bro to keep her busy and let the bro date her sis. I liked that the Hero grovelled and his big gesture was genuine. I also liked that the Hero was not described as super handsome but the heroine found him attractive especially when he smiles.

Cats climbed over her, trying to get comfortable on her crowded bed. There were cats on each side of her leg, one curled up by her head, and one currently kneading her breast and purring as she absently stroked its fur.

A cat feline her up ~see what I did there?

“I don’t have a condom on me.”
“Then pull out before you come.”

Uh huh, the cat encounter seems safer.

“Oh, I want to see your cats,” she told him breathlessly. “I’ll show them to you, on one condition,” he said, “I get to play with your breasts while you look at them.” “Seems fair,” she said, dazed at his touch.

What is with this chick and her cat/tit fetish?

2 stars for the above quotes I never imagined reading. Ever.

One quote from the hero about the heroine wearing lipstick is all you need to understand the romance you’ll experience by reading this book:

“...just that little bit of color brightened her mediocre features.”

Audiobook

Really good book with realistic issues, woman living with chronic pain.

I really enjoyed Edie and Magnus a lot.
Edie is harsh but fair.

Magnus had a great grovel.

I would reread this book.

It is more complicated than it first appears.

4 Crazy Cat Loving Stars!

Source: eARC for Honest Review Courtesy of Intermix | Penguin Group

This series is a spin off series from the Billionaire Boys Club Series.  Thankfully some of the great characters from that series make an appearance in this new series.  Edie's the friend of Gretchen from Beauty and the Billionaire, as well as Magnus is the friend of Hunter (Gretchen's fiance).  Gretchen gets the matchmaking mojo going during her meet and greet for the bridesmaids and groomsmen for her upcoming wedding.  The first meeting between Edie and Magnus did not go well.

"It's a cat, not a hooker,"

Edie is quite the feisty character borderline more bitchy than feisty, but she had spunk.   To some she may be a crazy cat lady but to others an intriguing enigma.

Magnus is a go getter and wants things a certain way so the spirited cat lady doesn't make his radar.  However, Edie's sister Bianca and Magnus's brother Levi convince Magnus to take pity on Edie.  He may have not started out thrilled about this arrangement but with the help of some angry felines and a cat behaviorist things changed.

Hunter: I have to ask.  Are you . . . adopting several cats?

Magnus:  Just one cat lady.

I gotta admit NOT a fan of Bianca or Levi at all.  Poor Edie, she doesn't trust easy especially because of her past.  So the last thing she needs is pity and more lies.  Magnus may have started the journey for the wrong reasons but ended up staying for the right ones.

The first book in this series didn't win me over but I quite liked this one.  It had humor and heart with a nice balance of steam, sex and substance.   Thankfully the heroine was strong not whiny.  While the heroine was rich, sexy and sweet.  Do I like this author?  YES.  Do I like this series?  Yes.  Did I like Edie and Magnus?  Yes. Was I excited to have Gretchen and Hunter involved in this story?  Hell Yes.    If Bianca or Levi are the hero or heroine of their own stories, will it be hard to like them?  Yes.   Will I continue with this series? YES.

A crazy cat lady? Um yes please. I loved everything about this Edie was cute and I love that she was sourly and seemed to be all angry. Magnus was adorable he tried to hard to hate her but let’s be honest he couldn’t. I also love that he got a F2 savannah and fell head over heels for her ❤️
