Life at Wigglesbottom Primary is often lived on the edge. Is there a shark in the local swimming pool? YES! Can playing with the class parachute make you invisible? YES! Are there dinosaur bones buried in the playground? YES! What are 2F going to do about it all? Have a lot of fun!

Laugh-out-loud school-based fun from the incomparable Pamela Butchart, read by Ashley Storrie, Scottish comedian, actress, and BBC Radio Scotland host. Perfect for encouraging independent listening!

Three short stories hilariously narrated by Ashley Storrie keep young listeners engaged and perfectly bridge the gap between picture books and chapter books.

As a child, Pamela was lucky enough to grow up in a house full of pets and go to a primary school where lots of spooky and weird things happened (well, in her imagination at least). As a student, Pamela’s student jobs included: fishwife, teaching basketball in America, phlebotomist and Artist Liaison for a (really bad) Abba tribute band. Now, when she’s not writing or going out and about meeting readers, Pamela teaches philosophy to teenagers.

Her top selling stories include The Spy Who Loved School Dinners which won the Blue Peter Best Story Award and My Head Teacher is a Vampire Rat which won The Children’s Book Award. Two of her books, Petunia Peri and There’s a Werewolf in My Tent, were shortlisted for the Lollies – the Laugh Out Loud Awards.

Pamela lives in Dundee with her baby boy and their two awesome cats, Bear & Carlos. If she wasn’t working as a writer and a teacher she’d like to open a luxury hotel for stray cats.

My toddler, my husband and I love reading this Wigglesbottom Primary School collection of three stories to my toddler. We know he doesn’t follow all the details, but he likes the artwork, loves the cadence of the tone of the narrative, and adores the subjects of sharks and dinosaur bones and other spooky kid stuff. Besides, we know he’ll grow into these books and will be able to read them on his own. As an Anglophile, I adore them. As parents, we think they’re hilarious. And the artwork and story tone are pitch-perfect. Highly recommend for parents and fans of primary school literature.

The second book in the Wigglesbottom Primary series, and I loved it as much as I loved the first book.

We have 3 new short stories, this time about swimming and sharks (oh no!), about parachutes and invisibility, and about dinosaur bones and playgrounds.

I will write a small review for each of the stories.

Story 1: Shark in the Pool. Haha, I so knew the feeling of these kids. I had the same feeling when I watched Jaws. I definitely liked how you could see the way mass panic works. One kid squeals, shows a wound, and suddenly no one feels safe. And then there is another twist, and RIP swimming time. I kind of felt sorry for the teachers. I am glad to see how they handled it though. They could have gotten way more angry, but they choose to solve this matter in a fun way.
I do hope that the kid who caused all the chaos has learned a lesson from this. Oh wait, given the ending.... :P

Story 2: Parachute + Invisibility. OMG, I had that parachute thing at gym once, in high school I believe. Best gym lesson ever. So I knew what would happen when the kids had to hide under there. I loved their reactions to what happened when they got under it and they saw how it was still all puffy and like a hot air balloon (without the hot air).
What happened to the kid? Eh, I knew what happened (especially when the peach was missing), but it was hilarious to see how the kids totally believed the invisibility thing. Magical parachutes! And when the truth came out, I loved how she choose to just side with the story even though she knew what had really happened with him.

Story 3: Dinosaur bones. Haha, another story that was really relatable to me. I remember when I was that age, I also found something that I found was REALLY REALLY old, but it turned out to be something different.
Though what happened at the end, the surprise (though I could already see what was happening based on several things), didn't happen to me. :P It would have been fun though if that was also the same.
I quite liked this story, and I loved how the kids were so believing, how they truly thought they had found something that was ancient, something that was rare. I love that. People tend to lose that believing when they grow up.

Of course the book is stuffed to the brim with illustrations. This time the colour scheme was Blue! The story already made me laugh real hard, the illustrations made me roll around even more.

All in all, 3 stories that I loved, and I hope the next book will be just as awesome (then again... it has a hamster so I am sure that will end up to be my favourite).

I would recommend this book to everyone.

Another fun book about the wildly imaginative class of kids at Wigglebottom Primary. Could the school pool have a shark? piranhas? jellyfish? Is there a dinosaur in the vegetable garden? Does the gym parachute have magic powers?

Miss 6 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.

Funnier than the first book, my son liked The Toilet Ghost but absolutely loved this one. The story about the shark in the pool is particularly good.

In the shark bit, they thought there was a shark in the pool but it wasn't, then the doctor thought it was a nettle thing but it was a jellyfish sting
