This book is a non-fiction story that helps you see why the holocaust actually happened. It shows things like how Adolf Hitler rose to power and manipulated the president and the country with his powerful speeches. This is a great book for people that want to read about the Holocaust, or people going to the Berlin trip.

El Holocausto es uno de los episodios más obscuros y viles de la humanidad, por lo mismo todos tenemos la obligación de saber de su existencia, al igual que de muchos otros sucesos terribles que se han venido dando en otros lugares y en otras fechas, como el asesinato de armenios a manos turcas, el Tibet, Camboya, Rwanda y el genocidio de los Tutsis, la "limpieza étnica" de los Balcanes, asi como el caso de los indios de Norteamérica. La ignorancia es el peor enemigo ante hechos de esta magnitud.
El principal objetivo de este libro es enseñarnos a no mantenernos indiferentes e ignorantes ante las injusticias a los demás, no permitir abusos que llegan a tales extremos.
Es un libro interesantísimo que habla desde los motivos que dieron origen al anti-semitismo, como fueron perdiendo derechos los judíos dentro de sus mismos países, pero como también se vieron afectadas otras minorías como es el caso de los gitanos, los homosexuales y la gente que al parecer del partido en poder en Alemania, no poseían las características dignas para vivir, pues incluso toca el delicado tema del proceso T4 que se les dió "eutanasia" a los enfermos incurables dentro de los mismos "arios". Como también la gente que ayudó y que luchó por los judios. También hace mención de los que trataron de ponerse en contra, como el caso de "La Rosa Blanca" y los hermanos Scholl, asi como las mujeres alemanas que se arriesgaron por salvar a sus maridos judios en la "Rosenstrasse". Abarca incluso hasta nuestros dias el papel que juega internet dentro de la difusion de los "grupos de odio" raciales así como también el papel de los revisionistas históricos ante el holocausto y la negación de su existencia por parte de algunos.

"Smoke and Ashes: The Story of the Holocaust", by Barbara Rogasky was a great book to read if you are looking for a interesting historical book. If the cover photo isn't enough to grab your attention and hold it then Barbara Rogasky intense story, pictures and statistics of the Holocaust surely will. The story covers major events that took place World War II like Hitler's rise to power, murders by Hitler's army, and experiences at the death camps. I had chills (but not in a good way) with every sentence I read, because the events that Rogasky explains are so horrific and inexcusable that it was hard not to have a physical response to the book. Even after learning about the Holocaust and knowing about the major events that took place it was still hard to put down this book, because the story drew me in. This book is for mature readers, and it has the Lexile score of 970L.

Since I love reading accounts of the Holocaust, I definitely enjoyed reading this book. It includes pictures and statistics to help bring to life the story she is recounting. I think that this book does a great job of showing the horror that took place through all of the events the Jewish people had to endure. From the ghetto's, the train rides, and then the concentration camps, this book gives you a vivid picture. I like how it is repeated throughout the book that normal people in a normal world cannot imagine the horrific actions of the Nazi's. This book is great for older middle schoolers but not anyone younger. I would reccommend this book to anyone interested in history or a truly great story.

Smoke and Ashes is about the story if the Holocaust. What happened in it, the steps, and important things in it. It tells you about the creator of the concentration camps and their reasons.
I like this book because it is a great research resource, it has lots of accurate information and can be cited in the back of the book. I recommend this book to mature people who are intrested in the Holocaust and its factors.

This was a great informational book, just don't read it before you go to bed. Trust me on this one. The subject isn't the greatest for bed time reading if you don't want to have scary dreams.
