Force Field: Alien Encounter

Rate this book
What if migraines and symptoms of schizophrenia were not signs of illness but catalysts for an evolution of perception into other worlds—or even a way for other worlds, other dimensions, to perceive us?

Dr. Kate Morgan’s work as senior consulting psychiatrist at Bellingham, an isolated sanatorium in the Mojave desert, has always been a creative and satisfying part of her life. She’s not afraid to give a ride to newcomer, Wyn Roberts, who she finds stranded by the side of the road. What she doesn’t know is that he was waiting for her, assigned to her by a world far beyond the reaches of her own.

When severe migraines and hallucinations incapacitate Wyn, he becomes a patient at Bellingham. Kate gradually learns that he is also the object of experiments by the institute’s director, whose actions not only become suspect, but stretch the boundaries of ethics and sanity.

As she searches for ways to defend and protect Wyn and the other patients, Kate’s perception of reality, grounded in the scientific method, becomes altered in ways she could never have imagined. She must come to terms with what she discovers about Wyn Roberts and her own capacity for love and healing before it is too late to save them both.

My intent is for the stories and books I write to bring others a good read, a respite from the frenetic pace we sometimes live, and most of all, a path into other ways of seeing.

RIA QUINN MYSTERIES is my cozy mystery series, beginning with "Hidden In Stone"... An amateur archaeologist transplanted from London to upstate New York discovers more than prehistoric artifacts when she settles into the small town of Shokan Falls, having a murder occur on the very day she arrives. I am writing Book 4 now, still to be titled...

The Standalone books--Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Mystery:
In MARI a young girl searches for her mother in a fantasy world that brings her knowledge of herself and a way out of darkness ~ A homicide detective in The Magic Hour faces mental collapse that sends him into a backwater town and a parallel dimension at the same time, and each one teaches him about love ~ In Retrieval a woman who manages a cafe in the desert encounters an alien presence that is both dangerous and familiar ~ The university town in Gene Pool becomes the target of a pact between the government and an unknown entity, while four friends race to unravel the doomsday scenario ~ In The Gatekeepers of Genthor, a brother and sister must fight an unseen enemy in a virtual world to save those they love ~ STOPOVER and Other Stories for a Rainy Night, is a collection of short mystery stories ~ My other books explore more alternate worlds, both in fantasy and science fiction, and all the books seek to explore matters of the heart. I hope indeed you enjoy them.

My stories have appeared in Thrice Fiction, Kzine, Bewildering Stories, Subtle Fiction, Mad Scientist Journal, Over My Dead Body!, T. Gene Davis's Speculative Blog, tNY Press, and NewMyths, among others.

I was a finalist in the Hollywood SCRIPTOID Screenwriter's Feature Challenge for my script about a mother seeking the disabled child she had abandoned, in "Second Chances." My book MARI was a finalist in the ListenUp Audiobook competition.

Life includes creative friends and a brilliant, talkative, and very green eclectus parrot named Harry. Home is in the evocative and hauntingly beautiful Hudson River Valley.

Intriguing other dimensional contact.

This is the third book I've read by this talented author that deals with other-worldly contact. In this story, a man appears at dusk in the high desert of California and steps in front of a car. Kate, the driver, a psychiatrist at a nearby institute, stops to pick him up and it quickly becomes clear that this gentle man is far more than he appears to be. His goal is to help her shift the way she perceives reality and he involves himself in her world, even allowing himself to be swept into the misguided experiments of her employer in order to lead Kate to new insights.

The story looks at possibilities beyond conventional scientific diagnosis of schizophrenia and explores possible layers of reality and our ability to exist in multiple places as once. The book will appeal to those interested in pushing parameters of understanding, especially those acquainted with the philosophies and concepts taught by Seth and Jane Roberts. Can unknown realities become known? Hell yes - with courage, intention, and choice, there is no doubt. Good story. Lots of food for thought.

An interesting physiological thriller

This plot is grabs to and will not let you go in several ways. At times it is very difficult to wade through the. Psycho babble that the main characters take us through it is very stimulating to bring all this together in a well thought out presentation. As a lover of time travel stories I thought this was where this was headed but was pleasantly surprised by the potential of other realms, consciences, perception, dimensions or worlds. Very thought provoking. Very little action, all in your mind. Reminds me of NBC's current virtual reality program "Reverie".

Curiosity

Force Field is the first book I've read by this author and is quite a bit different than most books I read. It was slow paced, obscure at times and ended abruptly. I won't be looking into her other books.

Languid pace, intriguing plot

I found myself captivated by the storyline, but also grew impatient to have certain key elements introduced early in take reach their conclusions. But as it is apparently a 3 book tale, so I will have to wait before I complete my final opinion.

This book is a gift of mystery wrapped in intrigue and tied with a science fiction bow. It has twists and turns, curves and layers that had me on the edge of my seat. From the opening scene of a desert highway hitchhiker, to the final scene --- which I will not give away --- I was hooked. The characters are compelling (so much so that I still wonder how they're doing), the premise is fascinating, and the storytelling is flawless. This writer placed me alone in a vast desert, locked me in an asylum where cures and sabotage were in a life and death struggle, and took me inside seemingly troubled minds that revealed exciting dimensions. I read it twice.
