The Men’s Group Manual

Rate this book
The Men’s Group Manual is a comprehensive guide for forming, building and maintaining a successful men’s group. The manual provides detailed instructions on how to bring a group together and then it guides the group through the critical first eight meetings. In every traditional culture there was, in some form, a men’s hut. In our modern society few men have an equivalent opportunity to bond with a circle of men with whom they are free to be themselves, be understood, and explore together the inner meaning of their lives. A men’s group provides this experience.

A bit dated, but very practical guide to creating and enriching a men's group (whether faith-based or non-faith based). With the changes in technology and pervasiveness of social media, I'm curious how the group methods he discusses would work with men's groups today. But I think the book's greater purpose and point is that men, of all cultures and eras, need and want community and a group to be a part of -- despite the barriers and social stigmas to overcome. Overall, a valuable read.

Definitely a resource I would revisit in depth if and when I'm leading or involved in a men's group or small group. The book is chock-full of discussion, game and activity ideas.
