I read Justice back in 2014 but only just realised it was on Goodreads, so apologies for the very late review! I'm going to post my mini-review from Facebook and add a couple more thoughts...

FB Review: Justice is an intense and riveting read, taking readers on a journey with a cast of complex and flawed characters, each with their own desires bubbling under the surface. I read this book in a day and a half, it was definitely a "just one more chapter" kind of read - I suddenly found myself reaching the end before I was ready to. Speaking of the ending, be prepared to feel frustrated as that was one super intense cliffhanger!

The thing about Justice that hooks you from the get-go is its intriguing titular character. Justice isn't your typical heroine and she goes through a lot - to put it mildly - which makes readers sympathise with her, even when she is contemplating murdering her father.

I don't want to go into spoilers so I'll keep it at that. Another thing that I personally really enjoyed, and this is just me as not everyone reads and relates books the same, was the very Stephen King's Carrie vibe that I felt occurred, especially early on in the book.

Ohhh, yeahhh! Sorry for using an image from the remake #blasphemy!

It was great because it felt like an element of Stephen King's horror was there under the surface and that definitely added to my enjoyment.

Any final words? Yeah, bring on the sequel!

Justice is an absolute must read!

This book had me hooked from the very start. Well written, fantastic story and most of all had me wanting more. I'm usually a very slow reader but I finished this book within 3 days. I can't wait to read more books from Sarah Ciacia.

You won't be able to put this book down!

The beginning is pretty confronting, but don't let that put you off.
It's an incredible morality tale: is Justice justified in killing her father, who has abused her for years?
She certainly feels no guilt after she has killed him...which is a little strange...but her transformation once she is free of his abuse in inspiring.

She buys new clothes, and starts wearing makeup.
Her friends at school notice the big change and ask what's going on.
She soon attracts lurrrve, but!
He's a teacher at her school.
This is where it gets really interesting.
The dynamic between Justice and her teacher, the sexual tension, will have you at the age of your seat.

Can't wait for the sequel!

A few words before I begin my review: I would review this 3.5 stars out of 5. Sarah and I have connected over the internet, due to a wonderful mutual friend who put us together due to our mutual interests (love of writing and dogs, the city of Melbourne…). However, I bought this book, so I have no other obligations to this review. And it’s very tardy. Sorry Sarah.

Justice begins the story of a victim; Justice is beaten by her father, demoralised at school, plagued by suicidal ideation. However, this isn’t to be Justice’s lot, as she fights back and kills her father. It provides her with freedom and a new lease on life, although she keeps looking back at the high price of her liberty.

For once, Justice is able to be the young woman she was held back from: one with her own style, and not so crippled by her self-doubt and depreciation. The people around her begin to notice.

Justice is a dark fiction novel for the young adult market. There’s some graphic scenes, and this book comes with a trigger warning for rape and murder. It has good flow and readability for a short novel.

Although some previous reviewers found her relatable, Justice so brimmed with bitterness, or alternately, bleak detachment–in a justifiable way, given her experience of life–that I found it hard to relate to her. She’s nuanced and flawed, with moments where you see the pure teenage girl in her; while it’s great for the realism, it’s not always great for being able to relate.

That being said, the despair of being a teenage outcast is very accurately portrayed in this book, so there’s much to relate to for teens negotiating the tumultuous time that is adolescence. And Justice certainly gets herself into troublesome situations like only a teenager can.

Have you ever read one of those books that you just couldn't seem to put down? The kind of book you can't stop thinking about in the moments when you are busy with the mundane tasks of every day living? This was definitely that kind of book for me! I am an avid reader, but not all books grab my attention from page one. Often times, it takes a bit longer before I really get into it. However, "Justice, " is one of those rare gems that pulled me in from the very first page.

I easily identified with the main character, Justice, in many of her thoughts, as well as her experiences with bullying. During the course of the story, I found myself cheering her on, and agonizing over her misery. While I identify with so many of her traits, I definitely wish that I could acquire the intelligent sarcasm that she has.

Justice is an intelligent, quick-witted, and resilient girl. While her situations are not enviable, her personality certainly is. The world that Sarah Ciacia has created is filled with characters that are both rich in personality and believable. The pages are filled with characters that we can all relate to in one way or another.

While reading, I'd lose track of time and easily devour thirty pages or more. When I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about how much I wanted to read it. I finished this book in two days, and I'm still thinking about the characters, dying to know what happens to them. The story stayed with me long after the last page.

Justice is a rich, poignant, and darkly addictive read, that leaves me eagerly anticipating its sequel, and anything else from this gifted author!

*May contain spoilers*

Honestly, I was disappointed with this story. Given the subject/genre, I thought I'd love it, but I didn't. There were some parts where I couldn't put it down, but those were rare. Mostly, I didn't particularly like how the story flowed (or didn't flow for that matter). I found it frustrating that I couldn't tell where the main character even lived (country, town, etc.).

It seemed like the author was going for a Stephen King-ess darkness, but it just wasn't up to par.
