SO YOU THINK YOU KNOW ABOUT HELL?

_____________________________

“It is a place of unrelenting misery and interminable pain and sorrow. It a place of lost hope, a dismal abyss where remorse is candy, and tears, nectar, to unforgiving monstrosities with endless appetites.”

In life, Samuel Rylandt was a serial rapist and murderer who callously committed heinous acts with no regard whatsoever for the women he victimized. In death, however, he will suffer the consequences of his depravity as his soul undergoes a startling corporeal transformation and he is thrown to Hell (Omerion) to complete three horrific phases of moral reconstruction.

Samuel’s notions of the underworld are broadened as he learns that “Hell” is actually an elaborate civilization where the damned agonizingly learn the virtues that evaded them in life.

You think you know what hell is like? Angel Gelique takes that image and smashes it with her bare feet.

Sam is a serial rapist..the asshole. He also murders a few of the girls along the way. They can after all identify him.
This book should be required reading in the courtroom for rapist.

It is a short little book, but it packs a huge punch.
Warning:not for the easily grossed out. Sam deserves it.

I did receive a copy from the author of this book and she is my friend. In no way did that impact my review of this book. Go read it.

A gory and extreme trip through hell, experienced by a rapist/murderer. Lessons are learned throughout the tour of a cruel yet just prison of sorts, from which one can never escape, but can gain justifiable wisdom. This book is for those with strong constitutions and stomachs of iron. Be good.

Alrighty, this is a shorty about a serial rapist who goes to Hell.
Niiiice.

Our main character, Sam, was trying to continue his winning streak with the ladies, when one of those bitches fought back.
*fist pump*
One knife to the gut later, and he found himself in Hell.

Alrighty, the first bit of this book, where Samuel is getting eviscerated and tortured went on a bit too long for my taste.
Not that I didn't initially enjoy it when the demon tore out his throat and pulled out his intestines, mind you.
It's just...there's only so many ways to describe horror, fear, desperation, and stinky accommodations.
I admit I was losing hope to this being anything other than an excuse to read about horrendous acts of violence, without feeling guilty.
But.
After all the gory stuff was over, a real story started to emerge.
At first, I thought that the author was going to try to make me feel sorry for Samuel, because maybe he had some sort of traumatic childhood or something.
Nope. He was just a sociopathic asshole.
And in Hell, they have cures for that sort of shit.

This isn't some sort of a Happily Ever After tale, but it does show that given enough time, enough demons, and enough mindfucks...even someone like Samuel might be able to see the error of their ways.

4 WELCOME TO OMERION STARS
description
Pop Sugar Reading Challenge 2016 A book that's under 150pages.

Plis.

Reading Omerion reminded me of a very important issue in reading stories. The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines “protagonist” in part as follows:
Protagonist [(]noun[)]
pro·tag·o·nist

[…]

1 a (1) : the principal character in a literary work (such as a drama or story)

(2) : the leading actor or principal character in a television show, movie, book, etc.

B : an active participant in an event

Hence, the “protagonist” in a book isn’t necessarily “the good guy.” Just the character principal character through which the story is told.

There is no clearer example of that notion than Angel Gelique’s Omerion. I have to confess I read this book several years ago. I had received it as a suggestion as an introduction to extreme horror—as well as her work. She’s since become a major inspiration for me. I was checking my shelves and reviews and realized that I had never reviewed this one. I think at first I was too surprised, shocked, and uncertain how to review a book in this horror subgenre and then neglected to review it. I aim to remedy that now.

Omerion is about as horror as horror gets. This book, like everything else I’ve seen that Angel Gelique has published, is engaging and utterly captivating. They’re also extraordinarily disturbing, horrific, dark and filled with the narrative of an utterly despicable character. As a reader I suffered horror like I’d never read before. But I also but felt the narrative’s power. The “protagonist” is devoid of any redeeming character at the start. Gelique cleverly makes the violent horror palatable by making you realize that he deserves everything he gets. That being said, there were descriptions that will stay with me until the day I die. When I read it, I’m not embarrassed to say that the

The story itself is like a literary curb stomp with a pro wrestler repeatedly planting their boot in your face or eating the hottest curry you can imagine. Suffering, but so engaging you want to, need to endure and survive it. How many other types of books can you say that about? I suspect, not many.

The book is not for everyone. If you are into extreme horror it is worth your time, but please make sure you read the warnings.

Omg were to begin.
The fact I know the author matters not.
The fact my name's in the dedication (points and blushes) matters not.
This yet again is a 5 star book by Angel. I found one error or point of dislike with it and that was it is to fucking short...excuse me Im going to look for more.....brb

nope couldnt find any more.

But that's only because I wanted more sam...more gore and more green turning face moments.

OMG this book, in short its about a guy who gets his just deserts and believe me when I say he fucking deserves everything he gets and I just love the concept of this because I often wonder if there is another life or afterlife of any kind, do evil people still pay for their crimes there....(to deep beth)...anyhoo hahah this book needs to become a manual for prisons all across the world on how to treat people who....yeah again...(to deep beth).
Angel you did it again gurl! I though you couldn't top Hilary but you did and you are still one sick puppy and I freaking love it...

Honestly guys if you like a book with back bone that has you on the edge of you seat (that's toilet seat throwing up) I'll recommend checking out THIS author she is one cool sista that puts all other horror writers to shame and not only that but the story lines she comes up with are freaking top notch and you just have to keep reading till the end...please keep sick bags at the ready and check out her work.

Sam Rylandt is a serial rapist and murderer, right up until the time one of his victims manages to plunge a knife into his stomach and then it’s all over.

Wait, bangs the top of the TV, everything comes back into focus, only, this is crazy, this is hell and Sam is about to reap the whirlwind of everything he sowed in life, only a thousand times worse.

Cheers from the crowd…

Told in first person through the eyes of a man who is about to learn the hard way exactly what he did, revisited on himself, the effects it had on the victims, their families and those very feelings hammered into his own skull. Remorse, repentance and finally sympathy and understanding.

I found this an incredible read, emotionally hard hitting from a vivid and substantial imagination.

As Sam interviews one of his victims in the guise of a doctor, he asks her what she would say to him now if she could and her reply is one of those paragraphs that will stay with you forever

“I would tell him that he ruined my life, that I’m alone and lonely, too afraid to trust any man. I would tell him he made me blame myself and hate myself and waste my life away. I would tell him that he makes me want to die, that I wish he had just killed me that night. I would tell him that he’s taken everything from me, that I’m just an empty vessel now and that I can’t stand the thought of him lurking out there doing the same thing to other women, ruining their lives without a care in the world. I would tell him that I hate him and that I hope he rots in hell…”

If that doesn’t stir the emotions, I don’t know what will.
My thanks to Scarlet for the recommendation and I’ll certainly revisit this author in the future

Well, this was truly one 'HELL' of a read - delighted to say that I just loved this novella from beginning to end. Great descriptions, great story, great final message...in fact, just great!

Sam, the evil rapist and murderer, awakens to find himself in Hell after being stabbed by his last unfortunate victim and tries to acclimatise himself to his new set of contacts and unfamiliar surroundings. But what can he expect from his change of circumstances and what lies ahead for him for the rest of eternity after being such a vile and despicable human being when still alive and in the land of the living? Three stages first: Empathy - Sympathy - Reparation, and then the demonic powers that be will decide how to proceed from there...

The format of this dark, powerful but very clever horror story appeared in many ways to closely follow a similar format to 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens, but with obvious significant differences such as the crime, the location and the adult material contained within the story itself. Obviously, such a violent and serious crime such as rape should always be handled with care and compassion and I found that the female author adapted it here to suit the story perfectly and avoided any extremism and glorification of such a horrendous, vile and disgusting act of such inhumanity on one human from another. However, please be aware that this is part of the story, but which is referred to by the writer with due care and attention in order to minimise stress, upset and distress to the reader.

Overall, a quite unique story which I enjoyed enormously - well worth a read. Rating: 4.8stars.

Fewer words make the average human feel ill or sick. I can think of a select few. However, one that oozes fear and repulsion? Rape. It's not a nice word and the topic in horror - and generally - is uncomfortable at the best of times. However, that doesn't stop horror writers from using it freely and - sometimes - wildly. It's the stigma of rape itself, for both men and women, that makes it prime horror fodder. However, when was the last time you read a story about the rapist getting his (karmic) comeuppance at the hands of Satan?

Omerion is the new novella from Angel Gelique. Sam is a serial rapist who, during one of his many attacks, is stabbed and killed by one of his victims. Then he wakes up. In hell, or more accurately Omerion. Where he is sent to repent his sins. However, Sam's hopes of forgiveness and ascending to heaven are merely a pipe-dream...

First of all, the topic is not comfortable. It is handled excellently by Angel, who creates a dark, macabre and graphic story that teeters on 'revenge' territory but is more a simple but effective horror story. Taking place in hell (with an excellent back story for the events, a master stroke by Angel) we get to see Sam suffer the fate of his victims and more. If you've read Angel before, you'll know she can craft some imaginative and disturbing torture scenes. Omerion is no different, putting Sam to the test in the most terrifying ways possible. You can see people cheering and fist-pumping as the scum suffers his sickening payback.

Characters are minimal and events linear yet unpredictable. The torture scenes are Barker-esque in places. You can feel the blood dripping, the flesh tearing, the eyeballs popping and the pain and agony of Sam, one of the most heinous characters I've read in a long time. Even in hell, he's trying to scheme his way out of his ultimate punishment, something the minions of hell laugh at. Basing the story in hell is a great way of confirming that, despite his scheming, Sam is not getting out of this alive...or dead...or with a clean slate. Never has a resolution, one that we know is coming, been so satisfying and blood-soaked.

5* - Glorifying rape? No. It's the skill of a writer when they can take the taboo subjects and craft a story around them that can be read without the PC police jumping on it. Sure, Omerion is brutal, uncomfortable and lurid, but it's done with a great panache for the genre. Horror is horror, you should know what you're getting. This is a great short story, original, gory and potentially offensive...but then, the best horror always is. Great stuff!

This is Hell unlike anything I've ever imagined. What the author spins in this book would have anyone thinking back to all the wrong they've done in their life. Karma...she's a b@#$h you don't want to mess with.
I was expecting gore, horror and absolute WTF! from this book, as I have read novels by this author before. Angel did not dissapoint. This woman has one twisted mind and can write horror like nobody's business.

An interesting take on “Hell” and eternal punishment for sinners.

The beginning felt a bit overdone, with shock value over quality of prose. The second half where the perpetrator becomes the victim and goes through the phases had me invested in the story again. I wish more time had been spent here and on what happens afterwards.

*WARNING* Omerion: Hell is My New Home by Angel Gelique is a horror short story that is not meant for the faint of heart. At just 87 pages this story packs a vicious punch dripping with violence.
The story revolves around Samuel, a serial rapist and murderer who is killed by one of his victims and finds himself in Hell.
While none of us can claim to know what Hell looks like or what it entails the author does a great job of building a valid world filled with believable characters. Characters that are well written and have depth making them relatable.
A kind of blending of "Christmas Carol" and "Dante's Inferno", Samuel must make his way through 3 stages of Hell which are Empathy, Sympathy and Reparation.
While the story has some violent depictions there are (I think) some more subtle and important points made in this story. A quote by one of Samuel's victims "You snuffed out my innocence and my life in one violent night of cheap thrills. I was just twenty-two. You left me there, naked and devastated. When you walked out and went on with your life, you took mine with you. I'm empty.'' I think this line is monumental in the telling of this story. I would be remiss to not point out how clever and with what creativity Ms Gelique provides us with a place where punishment also provides wisdom, a realization of what has been done and the consequences of those actions. For me these 2 thoughts frame the whole story, in many ways the foundation the rest of the story stands on.
Omerion is a hard hitting horror story that will not pull punches with it's substantial amount of blood, gore and torture. Fast paced, easy reading made this a pleasure (albeit in a semi-queasy) to read.
This is a great read for all fans of horror on the extreme side, but it's also a great read for those who ever wondered what it must be like to look into the abyss and have it look right back at you.

Review Omerion – Horror Novella

Be Warned Hell is Waiting and She is Gruesome
I received this book for an honest review and am so thankful to the author for a very enjoyable if somewhat ghastly read. This book is not for the feint-hearted among you, it is gruesome and bloody. You will feel as if you are there in hell with all its horror and living the masterfully written torture scenes.

This short story packs a big punch. Samuel Rylandt is a serial rapist and murderer who finally gets his just desserts when one of his victim's fights back. Samuel is dead, but his trouble is only just beginning – huge cheers from the crowd – ain't Karma a bitch.

In death, he will suffer the consequences of his actions. He arrives in hell and must go through three stages of punishment each of which will rip apart his soul and teach him a lesson from more than one perspective. It will also leave you hoping that this is really what happens as anyone who commits these crimes should suffer the consequences.

I don’t want to say much more as it would give away the story, but this is a gruesome and highly enjoyable read. Angel paints a vivid and believable world that will have you cringing and hiding behind your kindle as you can’t wait to turn the pages. It is also an ingenious little story that despite its heinous subject leaves you with a good feeling and satisfaction.

I give this is a hellish 5 stars, and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

What if Clive Barker wrote A Christmas Carol and instead of a crotchety, old miser, the man looking for redemption was a murderer and a rapist? The answer is that it’d probably look a little something like Omerion, Angel Gelique’s short horror story.

Sam’s a serial rapist and he’s just been knifed to death by his latest victim. He descends to Hell (or Omerion), is brutalized, reshaped, and put through lessons that will last him an eternity as he slowly comes to repent and sympathize with the women he hurt back on Earth. I compared this to A Christmas Carol and the comparison only hit me in the later chapters, but to me it makes sense. The demons, who are presented as disgusting in appearance but more like social workers in character, put Sam’s soul through torments that are awful and bizarre… and then strangely human and life-affirming, again not unlike the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.

It’s an interesting tale, both familiar and new, and author Angel Gelique presents us with an original vision of the workings of Hell. There is a lot of well-thought out world-building going on here, but sometimes it's almost a little too much, like the story could have used more room to breathe. But the author should be commended, as she does a lot with the 50-some pages, squeezing a lot of story into little space.

Rape is an ugly thing. I mean, obviously. And the main character Sam is an ugly man. We’re not meant to sympathize with him. Maybe we’re even supposed to root for the demons who torment his soul. However, I couldn’t get behind one segment in the book, which finds Sam in the position of his victims, as he is ravaged by an assortment of beastly creatures. It’s a ‘taste of his own medicine’ sort of punishment, but I feel it clouds the message of the book, which is that rape ruins people—-that rape should never be the answer.

There’s lots of quality writing here, and enough gore and dread to satisfy your horror cravings. I like Angel’s style and her bold choice to give us a narrator that’s so reprehensible. In other books with a character like Sam, the storyteller often rounds out the cast with more likable supporting characters, so that at least we have someone to latch onto. Omerion rejects this concept. We’re stuck down in the pit with Sam and though we may not see anything in him worth liking, at least the author was good enough not to let him off the hook. It’s a tale of redemption, but no matter how much Sam may come to regret his actions, it’s all too late. The damage is done, both to the women and to him. From the very first pages, it was clear that there would be no happy ending. The author does not cheapen this, she sticks to her guns, and delivers a gut punch horror story.

It’s not a pleasant read. No, decidedly not. And it ain’t for everybody. But despite some reservations, I think it’s a good short novella, one filled with interesting ideas and lots of nasty horror scenarios.

What a unique portrayal of hell! I loved this story. I will warn you not to eat while starting this if you have a squeamish tummy - I was sitting in a restaurant, reading on my tablet - yuck! LOL! A beautifully-rendered and breathless piece of short fiction that manages to pack horror, gore, and thrill with a strong message. A serial rapist doesn't pay for his sins merely by suffering physical torture in the depths of hell. What's more painful than the mind being ripped apart? Some lines that really touched me, a rape-victim's words: You snuffed out my innocence and my life in one violent night of cheap thrills. I was just twenty-two. You left me there, naked and devastated. When you walked out and went on with your life, you took mine with you. I'm empty.

Three words: Gore, Karma, Lesson.

A serial rapist gets sent to hell--pardon Omerion--and is taught to feel remorse for his actions by the most physically and emotionally torturous way. The author did a memorable job of delivering the message that if you harm someone then you not only hurt that person but the people around them. You just need to get past the gory parts, which seems to serve the purpose of showing that the character gets what is coming to him 10-fold. I was so glad that I had a toilet nearby. Not that I needed to use it, but it was a comfort when my stomach started churning.

There is graphically detailed gory torture scenes. Not all the time...just in the beginning, then there is reprieve, and then again and then you get to the emotional parts. Phase two was heart-wrenching and the last phase was definitely a emotionally roller coaster. You will know what I mean about the phases if you read the short story. Don't want to give the story away; so I will leave it at that.

The setting was somewhat reminiscent of Dante's Inferno with its levels of hell. Of course being a short story, there is not as many levels but there are a few. I thought it was interesting how the author incorporated different layers of hell into this story.

Horror with an emotionally touch. Just be sure you did not eat anything before you read this.

I loved this short story. The opening: “There should have been an ear-piercing scream resonating throughout the dank, dismal cavern, but no sound spewed forth from my mutilated, bloodied mouth” gave chills down my spine. The story was told through Samuel’s first person point-of-view. The author was great with voice because I HATED this jerk!!! He was vile, he was slime, and I respected that Angel Gelique wasn’t afraid to write in fear. I was disgusted (in a good way), thankful Samuel got his karma.

My favorite lines: 1) “All the while I prayed–yes, me, the black-hearted atheist–prayed for the sweet relief of a finite sleep.” 2) “Scanning the room was like having a private glimpse into insanity.”

I enjoyed hearing about Molly Watts; it helped me understand Samuel more. The author was also great with description; her metaphors were original and creative. If you love horror, then you’ll love this book. If you’re squirmish or have a weak stomach, BEWARE!

I RECOMMEND this book to read.

If I thought I knew what hell consisted off I was clearly very wrong. The suffering that Sam deservedly goes through in Omerion where imaginative and frightening but oh so incredible to read. Despite this book being a short story I feel it did not miss anything important out and that it got across it's point 'sharply', I do wish there was more of it because I really felt my heart sink when I got to the last page and I tell you I did not put this book down once during my reading (the book only arrived today), I could not stop turning the pages of this interesting and frightful tale. I hope there are more stories like this from Angel Gelique because I'll be reading them if so.

Thank you to the author as this read was a giveaway.

This a great story about what Hell could be like if you choose to make the wrong choices in life. Sam was taught all the right things as a child, but took a totally different path in his adult life. Now he is in Hell paying for his actions.

This is a gory, gripping tale of justice. I was excited to see Sam get what he deserved, and to see how he was shown what his victims and their families felt. In the end he even felt bad, but was it truly the end for Sam? Oh no, this was just the beginning of his hell.

Awesome job! I will be reading more from this author.
