I liked this one about the same as the last one.
The start and end of these books are always great, but the middle is a little wishy washy.
I enjoyed Vincent immensely, even with the whole things that were going on.
I found the sex in this one to be much better than the last. There was less of it, but there was also less satin covered steel which was nice. I really enjoyed the But I wish Brooklyn Ann would use the word vagina instead of "secret place", come on now, it's not a hidey hole where you keep treasures
I loved that we got to see more of Rafe in this book. I cannot wait to read his story. GRUMPY LEADING MEN FTW! I will be diving into his book as soon as possible.

Not only did she want Vincent's kisses, she wanted his heart. She did not want or need to go to London to find the man she would love and marry. She'd already found him.
This book was charming and cute, but I preferred Book One in this series, Bite Me, Your Grace.
Vincent Tremayne, Earl of Deveril, is rumored to be a madman. Reclusive and mysterious, he rarely ventures out into Society. But all that changes when 20-year-old American Lydia Price is thrown into his path. Orphaned and alone in the world, turned away by her evil grandmother and faced with the threat of being forced into an insane asylum, Vincent honors his ancient bond with her family and takes her in as her guardian. He is determined to marry her off to a good man and set a great future in place for her.
The only problem? He's falling in love with the sweet young woman and wants her for himself. Even though he, as an Earl, would be a great match for anyone, he resists making any advances on her. For what no one knows is that "The Devil Earl" is really a vampire - the Lord Vampire of Cornwall! And what woman could learn to love a monster?

This book was sweet, silly, and cute, but not as fun or engaging as Bite Me, Your Grace. For one thing, Vincent is wracked with guilt over being a vampire and feeding on humans. I don't really enjoy this I-hate-myself misery-fest that so many fictional vampires seem to engage in (see: Angel from Buffy). It's annoying.
Secondly, I wasn't enjoying the sex too much, I thought the sex was better in Book One.
Thirdly, even though Lydia is an accomplished painter and a good person, I didn't find her as compelling as the fiery feminist Angelica who was so feisty and outrageous.
Fourthly, the problems the couple faced were just not very exciting, with the exception of the huge surprise of That was shocking!
THINGS I LIKED:
1.) Vincent is merciful and patient (two very attractive qualities in a man). I knew we were going to get along when, at the beginning of the book, a poor little innocent maid is fired by her evil employer and Vincent immediately steps in and offers her a job, EVEN THOUGH the little maid had just called him a madman and the 'Devil Earl.' So merciful. O.O
Turning away from the dowager, he addressed the trembling Emma. "Miss Price will require a maid. If you would care to fulfill that situation, I'll double what Lady Morley paid you." In a gentler tone, he added, "I am aware of the stories circulated about me, and I swear on my honor that no harm will come to you under my employ."
It is also rather his business to show mercy and help out people in trouble, and he does so throughout the novel.
2.) "I was perfectly safe." With a jaunty grin, Lydia removed her hand from beneath her apron. A flint-lock pistol was in her grip.
Excellent. Lydia is a historical romance heroine who packs iron.
3.) Like Bite Me, Your Grace, this book is gently humorous.
She turned to pick up her glass of wine, draining the rest of it in one swallow. To hell with them if they thought her uncouth. She's already discharged a firearm indoors, displayed hysterics before her guardian, balked at her womanly duties, and engaged in an improper embrace with a man.... that man being none other than her guardian. A little wine could only improve the evening.
4.) KISSING!
Then his lips were on hers, warm, silken, teasing.
There wasn't ENOUGH kissing, but I'll take what I can get. ;)
5.) Cheesy romance. I love cheesy romance novels!
And then the sun rose over a verdant meadow. From delicate pink to brightest gold, it filled the chamber with the glory of the dawn. Lydia gave him a sunrise so realistically portrayed that Vincent could feel its warmth upon his face and smell the wildflowers blooming in the field. Her sun did not burn him.
6.) Over the course of both this book and Bite Me, Your Grace, Brooklyn Ann has succeeded in making me very excited to read the third installment, Bite at First Sight. Rafael Villar is such a grumpy, stern, resigned-to-a-loveless-life-because-of-his-scarred-face-and-his-scarred-and-useless-left-arm, boxing, stickler for the rules and I cannot WAIT until he falls in love. He definitely is in need of lots of snuggles and the love of a good woman. :) So excited for this book to come in at my library so I can read it!

Tl;dr - Although not as much fun as Bite Me, Your Grace, this was still a cute little romance novel that has a lot to offer. And I can't wait for the next book!

Two phrases come to mind when I think about this book.
1)Delightfully campy
2)Charmingly cheesy.
I mean both of these in the best way. I didn't particularly enjoy the other books in this series. I think it was because I wasn't sure what to expect and I approached them with a little more seriousness than I should have. This time I was in the mood for the ridiculous and adorable. I compare it to be being in the mood for an HR that is dark, depressing, and angsty (The first thing that comes to mind is The Highwayman by Kerrigan Byrne. That was quite a dark and heartbreaking HR) and being in the mood for a fluffy favorite of mine like When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare. One deals with deeply scarred people finding each other and dealing with trauma and the other is two people who find each other that also end up searching a castle for two escaped pet lobsters named Fluffy and Rex. Well, last night I wanted Fluffy and Rex. So, I really enjoyed this book.
Vincent Tremayne is your quintessential brooding reclusive vampire. He lives in a dark castle, he's incredibly handsome, filthy rich, grumpy, dangerous, and filled with guilt. When the Dowager Countess of Morley shows up at said gloomy castle asking him to honor a friendship between their families that's existed for years by taking her granddaughter as a ward (well, asking is a kind word. More like, "do this or she goes to an asylum" type of thing), Vincent agrees. When he meets Lydia Price, he wants her immediately. He realizes there can be nothing between them because he is a vampire, she is mortal. Besides the fact that it is against their laws for mortals to know about vampires, he really doesn't want to watch her die of old age. So Vincent makes sure she has a massive dowry and goes about getting Lydia set up for a successful season so that she can marry and be off his hands so his secret will be safe and she'll be happy. This is all well and good except for the fact that Lydia is immediately drawn to him as well. She is curious about his odd behaviors of course. He gets "headaches" during that day that keep locked away upstairs. He has odd hours. Takes very long nighttime walks, you know, all that stuff. Lydia falls in love with him, which makes husband hunting difficult. Unlike a lot of HRs, Lydia is pretty single minded. She wants him, doesn't really hide that she wants him, and has no interest in her suitors. From then on there is a lot of vampire politics and Vincent ends up having to make a split decision that will change both of their lives forever.
Lydia was a great heroine. She was a brilliant painter, which is a major part of the plot, and I loved how supportive Vincent was. She was smart, although she did have moments. I'm not really a fan of the whole "eavesdrop only a portion of a conversation so that I can misinterpret the conversation" thing. It just seems a little lazy.
I liked Vincent but I wish there had been more about him before he met Lydia. I have read the first book, but I don't remember much about him in it (I wasn't too fond of the first book). I wish there had been some kind of interaction between him and another vampire before he meets Lydia to show the transformation in Vincent caused by Lydia's presence in his life. Just a few pages, nothing major. It still worked, but it could have been better.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. The romance was sweet and it wasn't a very angsty/stressful read. I like that these books don't take themselves too seriously. In each of these books, the author adds something historically accurate as a plot point, however minor, which I think is great. I always learn a little something. I happen to absolutely love HRs with any kind of paranormal in it and as it isn't a large genre, I'm always excited to find a book like this.

What a sweet read!
I really enjoyed this book, even more than the first.
Lydia was very sweet and I really liked how she had her priorities straight with the luggage she brought with her from America – one suitcase was for her canvases, one for books, and she had another one for her gun collection. A very interesting woman.
Vincent was wonderful, and I loved how he just couldn’t ignore his attraction to Lydia, no matter how hard he tried. The romance between these two was just wonderful to read, and I loved how there were two cupids in their midst (Miss Hobson and Angelica) trying to get these two together.
I can’t wait to read the next book with Rafael. It is going to be such fun watching this brooding and moody man fall in love, especially after reading his comments after Ian and Vincent fell in love. Seriously, I can’t wait to see him be bitten by the love bug. Oh, how the mighty will fall...

5 sunrise stars...I love the characters and the heroines are the real alphas and funny as hell

While my taste for sexy times in books is growing, the more traditional bodice rippers have really never done it for me. I like historical fiction and I like sex but that particular time period just isn’t my forte. Worlds of the ancients, yes. Regency era propriety? No. I’m not big on the traditional romance coming out of that time either, like Austen or the Bronte sisters so really, no surprise. It’s all a yawnfest for me, despite the sex.
Until Laura found a hidden gem on NetGalley that I was in no position to deny. Regency-era bodice ripper. WITH VAMPIRES. Yes. Immediately, yes. Because vampires make ANYTHING better. The sexytimes escalate, the bodices get even more ripped. NOTHING BAD COULD COME OF THIS. I knew it in my heart of hearts.
Now this is my first Regency-era bodice ripper. I have nothing to compare it to. But I know my writings and I know my plots and I know what works for me and what doesn’t so lets go from there, shall we?
The second the book started I was reading it with an accent in my head that kind of sounded like Shelby Foote, well to-do person from the upper echelons of the south that have a more cultured drawl about them. That was the tone of the book for me. And it fit oh so well. The over the top level of propriety and gasp and SCANDAL was just ungodly amusing to me as I sat there reading it, squealing in delight at the moments of SHAME and FLUTTER and QUIVERING THIGHS. Clutch the pearls, ladies. It’s wonderful.
It was very much over the top in terms of writing style but it fit. The story was over the top, the situation was over the top, the gasping and lack of propriety was over the top but you know what? I couldn’t get over the top enough. The sexual tension between Lydia and Vincent was extravagant and I just wanted to scream DO IT ALREADY. I’m imagining this is indicative of writing within the confines of this era because that tension was drawn OUT until no one involved, including this reader, could take it anymore. FINALLY it happened and oh steamy thigh quivering it was phenomenal.
Although I have to say when I think of things springing out I think of maybe a Jack in the Box or snakes in a can. Not an erection. When those start springing out I start thinking boi-oi-oi-oi-oi-oi-ing and then the mood is momentarily ruined. There were a couple of other instances were body parts were getting a little too technically described and it kind of ebbed the hotness of the situation but certainly not enough for me to stop reading. Never that.
I was engrossed in the scandal of the familially spurned Lydia, rejected pariah of the Morley family getting shunted on this Devil Earl and becoming a pawn in a competitive game of marriage. I was hooked by Vincent’s rather emo-Louis plight of being a vampire and the night world he lived in with Angelica and Ian, two rather incredibly awesome vampires that I need to read more about in book one of this series immediately. I wanted more sneakiness from some of the characters that would otherwise prove to be as straight-laced as they come. Oh the surprises!
I do wish there was a bit more focus on the vampire actions, though. That seems to be very much skirted over and left to the imagination. I don’t necessarily mind in this instance because I was so incredibly entertained otherwise but I usually like to see more vampireness where vampires are concerned. Although Vincent’s vampire powers were used quite often when he needed them.
I have found a new love in ONE BITE PER NIGHT and Brooklyn Ann’s work. I can’t wait to get my greedy little hands on more of it.

One Bite Per Night is a FANTASTIC romance and I couldn't put this one down. It was phenomenal and I loved every moment. This just might be one of my favorite paranormal romances I have read this year, and I know this review won't do this story any justice. I hope I can put into words how much I loved this story. It definitely pulled me right in, and the connection between Vincent and Lydia is powerful and intense.
The story starts with humor and witty come backs, and the you fall in love with the characters immediately. Vincent is a awesome hero....I could just kiss him all over I adored him so much. He is honorable, does have some issues thinking he is evil and all that, but he cares about others, and he is so sweet and protective with Lydia, you can't help but be charmed by his manner. Lydia is strong and courageous, and doesn't mind chasing the man she wants, even if that man tries to run at times from her. Lydia is strong willed and passionate about everything in her life, and will only settle for true love. I felt like I could relate to her in so many ways, and when a heroine is written well in the story it just adds a extra deep layer to that dessert. I truly loved the other characters as well, and it made me want to buy the first book because I truly admired this author's storytelling abilities and to draw you into a story like a bee to honey, and will captivate your attention until the very last page.
Overall a charming romance, set in a historical period, with paranormal elements, and a mixture of humor, adventure, and complexities that blend in with the plot in a way that will have you head over heels in love. Swift moving and utterly mesmerizing!!! A story with a fresh voice and stunning descriptions. DELIVERS ALL THE WAY!!

A delightful mix of historical and paranormal romance, One Bite Per Night was a wonderful read. I really liked this book. It was a lovely romance and I really enjoyed reading it.
Lydia was a good heroine, though I'm a bit torn about her. On one hand, I liked that she was strong and independently-minded. She had a unique view on things that brought a lot of freshness to the story. On the other hand, she was waaaaay too impulsive, in a way that often had her getting into stupid (and dangerous) situations and unable to handle to consequences. It was alright the first couple of times, but it came to be a habit with her. Overall, though, I liked her fine.
On that note, it seemed really odd how unconcerned about propriety the characters were. I know we're talking about a collection of vampires and an American girl, but it was to the point that it felt inconsistent with the time period. It kept me from diving into the story completely, because I would stop and question if what the characters were doing was okay within the time period (the answer was often no).
On the brighter side, Vincent was a total sweetie. I loved how dedicated he was, not only to the vampires he had responsibility for, but to Lydia and her well-being. He was wonderful and I adored him.
The romance was lovely. Lydia and Vincent were sweet together. I liked how, from the moment they met, they clicked and there was never any doubt about their feelings (even if they weren't great about articulating them). And, the chemistry between them was hot and it led to some very steamy scenes. I thought they were a wonderful couple.
The plot was well paced and I was kept interested the entire way through. I really enjoyed the story and the ending was lovely.

HAPPY RELEASE DAY!!!
I was very happy to see the second book in the Scandals with Bite series. I read the first one, Bite Me, Your Grace, last year and enjoyed it very much. I had snarky good times while I read it. As an artist myself, I had a great time reading about Lydia's art. Could imagine her paintings very well from the descriptions offered by Ms. Ann.
Vincent agrees to take on the job as Lydia's guardian because her grandmother is horrible. She doesn't want Lydia to over-shadow her "true" granddaughter. She just wants her gone. Vincent takes on the challenge to launch Lydia well, and to find her a "better" husband than the Duchess finds for Lydia's cousin.
Because he really doesn't want her around very much. She could stumble upon his secret, that he's a vampire, and that would be bad. But there's something about her, isn't there. She's just so sweet, and pretty, and smart...but NO, he must not fall in love!
Yes, we know how this is going to go, don't we? As Vincent fights with himself, all broody-boy that he is, there are a lot of fun characters surrounding them. Ian and Angelica from the first book are there. Vampire seamstresses, pugilists, and a shifty artist make for fun reading.
The vampire world that Ms. Ann has created is fun and I look forward to more!

This is the second book in Brooklyn Ann’s Scandals with Bite series (after Bite Me, Your Grace, reviewed last week) and I liked this one better than the first. I now have high hopes for book 3, Bite at First Sight, which I have scheduled for next week.
The formula is very similar to the first book, but it has been tweaked just a bit in ways that minimize the number of misunderstandammits and make the characters fit more comfortably, at least for this reader, into the unconventional heroine meets brooding hero plot.
(OMG I just realized that Lydia Price marries Vincent. If this isn’t a play on the name of the late horror film actor Vincent Price, I’ll eat my (fictional) parasol.)
Returning to the work in hand, Lydia truly is unconventional, not just on the inside where it counts, but also in her background. Her parents married for love, which was unusual enough, but her father gave up his wealth and title to marry her commoner mother. His mother disowned him and any children he might have, and turned her aristocratic and autocratic back on the lot of them.
Lydia grew up in New Orleans, where her parents fled to make a fresh start. It was a happy family until both Lydia’s parents died of yellow fever just about the time that Lydia should have been looking for a husband.
Instead, the orphan is on her way to England, to the hopefully accepting arms of the only family she has left. Unfortunately for her, that family is her hateful grandmother. Fortunately for Lydia, her grandmother is so hateful that she essentially bargains Lydia off to an old family connection.
Once upon a time in the 1600s, Vincent Tremayne, Earl of Deveril, pledged an alliance with his best friend, who was then Lord Morley. Lydia’s grandmother is that Lord Morley’s descendant, and Vincent feels duty bound to harbor his old friend’s great-great-granddaughter. Because while Lord Morley is long dead and has had several generations of descendants, Vincent is the Lord Vampire of Cornwall, and is still very much alive.
But Lydia brings a lot more life to his lonely castle than he ever thought possible. And not just because he has to finally hire enough servants to keep the whole place functioning again, as well as retain a chaperone for Lydia to supervise her “coming out” Season in London.
Lydia’s American upbringing has made her a refreshing change from the mostly simpering debutantes who have nothing on their minds but snaring a titled husband, whether by fair means or foul.
Lydia rides, shoots, fishes and paints. Those first three make her an ideal Countess for the remote Cornish estate – but all Vincent sees is a young woman with a zest for life who couldn’t possibly fall for the monster that Vincent sees himself to be.
All that Lydia sees is a handsome, brooding man who lights up in her company and encourages her intellectually.
Vincent admittedly also sees a way of getting back at her grandmother by ensuring that Lydia makes a more favorable match than her cousin, the grandchild that the old lady favors because she has the poor chit under her thumb.
Vincent’s first salvo in that polite war is to hire the best chaperone in England to supervise Lydia right out from under her grandmother. Miss Hobson sees the Earl and his ward together and decides that the most brilliant match available to Lydia is the one that appears to be the one after Lydia’s own heart. Miss Hobson begins scheming, in her quiet but effective little way, to get Lydia and Vincent together.
(After all, Vincent IS an Earl. It is a very brilliant match!)
The London Season offers plenty of opportunities for Vincent to avoid the affection that is growing between himself and his ward. Duchess Angelica Ashton, wife of the Lord Vampire of London and heroine of Bite Me, Your Grace, sees plenty of opportunities for a little mischief and more than a bit of matchmaking.
Lady Morley sees a titled Lord that she can both steal from her commoner granddaughter and possibly bring under her own sway into the bargain. She has no idea what she is attempting to bite off.
Lydia just sees Vincent pulling away from the friendship that they established in Cornwall. No one sees the very real danger that stalks them all.
Escape Rating B: Because readers of the first book already know quite a bit about the vampires of England and their governance, this story is able to delve more into its characters and spend a bit less time on explaining everything.
I like Lydia as the heroine. Her unconventionality is organic to her story. She’s not rebelling against expections, she’s trying to figure out where she fits between the expectations that her parents raised her under and the much, much stricter set of rules that confine English young ladies of a certain class. The rules of life have changed right under her, and in the midst of very real grief, and she is learning her place in her new world.
Vincent believes that as a vampire, he is a monster. He feels guilty for living, for everything he does, and does not want to bring someone else, namely Lydia, into a life which he feels will crush her spirit as it has crushed his. At the same time, he is an excellent lord, and takes care of his people, both human and vampire, and does what is a very good best by them. Ian Ashton often sends those who have been damaged by the change to Vincent for supervision and healing, and their partnership in this regard is quite successful.
As much as Vincent falls in love with Lydia, and it is great to watch them slowly and carefully reach out for each other, while he is certain that anyone else would be better for her. He sincerely tries to find her a mortal husband. In the end, Lydia has to seduce him (with Angelica Ashton’s wardrobe) to get him to see the light. Even then, he’s still in the process of convincing himself that his selfishness will not harm Lydia, and he isn’t certain.
When the decision is taken out of his hands, it puts all of them into even more danger. Rash actions produce drastic results. And while this story does eventually come to its blissful happily ever after, it was also incredibly pleasing to watch Lydia give her disgusting grandmother the comeuppance that she so richly deserved.
One of the secondary characters in this story who has continually made my “curiosity bump” itch is Ian’s second, the scarred Spanish vampire Rafael Villar. I am looking forward to finally discovering his story in Bite at First Sight. I have high hopes that it will be even better than One Bite Per Night.

While not veering far from the historical romance formula, ONE BITE PER NIGHT still manages to delight the reader with it’s fun heroine, brooding hero, and matchmaking side characters. This is paranormal romance at its finest, with the romance taking center stage, and the paranormal just being one aspect of the story. One may worry that with the combination of historical and paranormal romance, that Ann would do neither well, but instead, she excels at both, with a wonderful story and world I can’t wait to revisit.
One aspect I loved about ONE BITE PER NIGHT is there wasn’t lots of harping on Vincent’s age compared to Lydia’s. She didn’t seem to feel the insecurity that plagues so many heroines in similar novels about how could he like her of all people, when he’s how old again? That plotline as a way of keeping the hero and heroine apart is getting old, and I appreciated that it didn’t make an appearance. Rather, there were other obstacles to Lydia and Vincent’s relationship, not all of them inside one character’s head. Though at times the situations that Lydia and Vincent find themselves in seem very contrived, it’s the same way that most historical romances tend to seem a bit contrived.
The influence Ann claims to receive from Regency historical romances is obvious, but she still maintains an originality and freshness. I felt like the vampire aspects of the novel sometimes came second to the romance, which was lovely. Lydia and Vincent developed a lively friendship that was delightful to watch blossom, and counteracted any concerns of instalove that may have come up. The secondary characters were fun as well, with the scheming, matchmaking chaperone, and the fun, recently made vampire Angelical, who you may recognize from BITE ME, YOUR GRACE.
All in all, ONE BITE PER NIGHT is a fun, escapist read. With the simmering sexual tension between the leads, and the interesting aspects of vampires in historical England, I can almost overlook any possible ridiculous situations. If you’re a fan of historical romance, ONE BITE PER NIGHT is for you, as you’ll feel right at home her. And those of you who love paranormal romance will like the aspects of the vampire world Ann has created. With a little something for everybody, ONE BITE PER NIGHT is a winner.

One Bite Per Night starts out very good but somehow it gets muddled with too many scenarios like the Siddon Vampire sisters who have their own issues. The story between Lydia and her Grandmother did not quite work for me.
One Bite per night is a good story. However I do think Bite Me Your Grace Bk.1 was a lot better. Ian and Angelica are very much a part of bk 2. Its about a young lady her father was an Earl but he married below himself and went to America, and settled in New Orleans. The Yellow fever brakes out in the city and Lydia's parents died. Lydia thinks she is being sent back to her grandmother in England but the grandmother doesn't want her. She is a mean evil B. So the Grandmother ask the Earl of Deveril Vincent to honor their long standing family pledge to help each other out. So he takes Miss Lydia Price as his ward. Of course he is a Vampire and he falls in love with his Ward. The things I had problems with is Lydia was call Miss Price and not Lady Lydia her father was the Earl of Worley but somehow the Grandmother the Dowager Countess had control of everything She refuses to except his wife and his daughter. The Earl leaves England with his lowborn wife a merchants daughter to come to America. Why? He was the Earl of Morley His mother should not have had control over everything. Lydia should have been called Lady not Miss. These scenarios didn't make sense. She was the Dowager Countess and her son was the Earl no matter what. She should not have had so much power over the lands and the title. Also, Lydia was born an raised in American. Her father could have left her all his money and she would have been an heiress. Women could inherit in American, so that didn't make sense. But on the Whole I liked the story and the characters Lydia was written very American and I loved her English Chaperon Ms. Hobson. She was hired by the Earl to teach her polite English society for her Come Out and presentation to the King. The other thing that bother me was that a person just comes out of nowhere and slits her throat Why did he do that? Of course it leads to Lydia being transformed into a Vampire. More needed to be explored on why she was attacked. Did the grandmother hire him to kill Lydia. She certainly hated her enough. The story could have easily been a 5 star book if it didn't have so many loose ends and scenarios that didn't fit the storyline.
One Bite per night is a good story. However I do think Bite Me Your Grace Bk.1 was a lot better. Ian and Angelica are very much a part of bk 2. Its about a young lady her father was an Earl but he married below himself and went to America, and settled in New Orleans. The Yellow fever brakes out in the city and Lydia's parents died. Lydia thinks she is being sent back to her grandmother in England but the grandmother doesn't want her. She is a mean evil B. So the Grandmother ask the Earl of Deveril Vincent to honor their long standing family pledge to help each other out. So he takes Miss Lydia Price as his ward. Of course he is a Vampire and he falls in love with his Ward. The things I had problems with is Lydia was call Miss Price and not Lady Lydia her father was the Earl of Worley but somehow the Grandmother the Dowager Countess had control of everything She refuses to except his wife and his daughter. The Earl leaves England with his lowborn wife a merchants daughter to come to America. Why? He was the Earl of Morley His mother should not have had control over everything. Lydia should have been called Lady not Miss. These scenarios didn't make sense. She was the Dowager Countess and her son was the Earl no matter what. She should not have had so much power over the lands and the title. Also, Lydia was born an raised in American. Her father could have left her all his money and she would have been an heiress. Women could inherit in American, so that didn't make sense. But on the Whole I liked the story and the characters Lydia was written very American and I loved her English Chaperon Ms. Hobson. She was hired by the Earl to teach her polite English society for her Come Out and presentation to the King. The other thing that bother me was that a person just comes out of nowhere and slits her throat Why did he do that? Of course it leads to Lydia being transformed into a Vampire. More needed to be explored on why she was attacked. Did the grandmother hire him to kill Lydia. She certainly hated her enough. I loved last years book and first in the series "Bite Me, Your Grace." It is on the list of my favorite books for 2013. This years follow up book " One Bite Per Night " does not disappoint.
After the death of her parents, Lydia Price is sent to England to live with her grandmother, a dowager countess. Unfortunately, her grandmother wants nothing to do with her as her father committed the great sin of marrying for love instead of title. She disinherited her son and he settled happily in New Orleans with his merchant's daughter bride. Lydia was born a year or two later knowing she was loved by both parents and she is encouraged to pursue her love of painting. She is shocked and hurt that her relatives want nothing to do with her and that she will be the ward of Vincent Tremayne who is honoring a favor from a past friendship with one of the Morleys. Little does anyone know that Vincent is the Lord Vampire of Cornwall.
Vincent doesn't know what to make of the feisty American girl who ends up in his home under his protection. He hires a chaperone to help Lydia find her way in society with a season among the wealthy Ton, the cream of society. Although falling for her, Vincent hopes to marry Lydia off so that she doesn't discover his dark secret. He enlists the help of The Lord Vampire of London and his wife from the previous book, Ian and Angelica.
There is no denying the spark between Vincent and Lydia, but their are rules even among vampire society and a future for them looks bleak. You really care for Vincent, he is living a lonely life and the free-spirited Lydia gives him a reason to feel alive again.
Besides the romance of the H/h their is also the good friendship that starts between the two women, Lydia and Angelica who are strong, brave, headstrong, (and for Lydia impulsive) women who at times question the hypocritical world of rich society. They are two peas in a pod, each with talent who wish for careers doing something they love in a man's world, painting for Lydia and writing for Angelica. Together they get into mischief and drive their true loves crazy.
This story is a great blend of humor and charm with a dash of danger. I highly recommend this story for historical fans who love their stories with a little bite.

WOW! Can this little ex-mechanic write. I mean really tell a tale. Brooklyn, my dearest friend, has flair and then some. A regency/vampire/love story. And it works.
Orphaned in the Americas, beautiful Lydia Price heads to England to be with the family she has never before met, and will not meet if her Grandmother has anything to say about it. Disapproving of her son's marriage to a woman she did not like causes the Dowager Countess of Morley to call on the mysterious Vincent Tremayne, the Devil Earl, to take the girl as his ward to repay a debt of honor or see her unwarrantedly locked away in an insane asylum. Though Vincent wants nothing to do with the launching of a young girl he has never met, his anger of what her relatives have waiting for her is so heinous he feels honor bound to find the girl a husband in polite society England ASAP. What Vincent does not plan for is his first meeting for the beautiful, raven haired Lydia, whose love of life, her fantastic talent for oil painting and exploring every little burrow she come's across in his "Hauntingly" beautiful castle.
While seeing his charming ward endowed with a large fortune, designer gowns, and the highest honor of sponsorship available for presentation, Vincent finds his own heart engaged by the beautiful sprite. All while trying to keep her active mind from discovering the fact that he's a vampire.

As Vincent and Lydia spend more time together it's not only his secret he has to conceal but his own feelings for his ward. Lydia knows there is something odd about her guardian but she sees his kind side and cannot help but want him.
I really enjoy Brooklyn Ann's regency vampire world...there is a great balance of paranormal, historical romance, adventure and humour. Lydia and Vincent have great chemistry - she is spunky and he is very broody which is really fun to read. My other favourite thing about this book is that Ian and Angelica (hero and heroine from the first book) make a big appearance in this novel. I would recommend this to fans of Lydia Dare.

Vampire and historical romance all in one book!
LOVE LOVE LOVE book 2 in the Scandals with Bite series. I thought the first book was good, but this one was even better. Due to not being able to put this book down I read it in less than a day!
Lydia is the American born daughter of a disowned Earl. After her parents death she is shipped off to her grandmother in England. Sadly, her grandmother does not want her (as her father caused disgrace to the family name for marrying below his status - for love). Vincent (an Earl) is not happy when an old marker gets turned in causing him to become Lydia's guardian. As he is a vampire Vincent is afraid of being exposed by having Lydia living in his home. To get Lydia off his hands he decides to find her a husband (even though he wants her for his own).
Brooklyn Ann is a fantastic writer (very solid). The love scenes are VERY hot. There is also humor in the book.
I am very much looking forward to book 3 as you get a hint in this book regarding which character it will be about. As he is a very dark personality I have a feeling book 3 will also be an enjoyable read.

The second book in the tongue-in-cheek Scandals with Bite series by Brooklyn Ann, who humorously describes her works as “supernatural smut.” But it’s so much more than that. Ann really knows how to tell a story, and a very, very romantic one at that.
Last year, I loved her original and funny Bite Me, Your Grace, but I think I loved this one even more.
Vincent is a hero to love, a beta hero with strength and admirable determination. He’s a vampire with a heart of gold, honorable, extremely kind and considerate and, of course, gorgeous. What girl wouldn’t fall in love with him? He knows what is right and wrong so, when Lady Morley, a rude and snobbish descendant of his old friend John Morley asks him to take her granddaughter, Lydia Price, off her hands or she’ll send her to an insane asylum merely to be rid of her, Vincent takes Lydia into his home and becomes her guardian. I loved the idea of taking a historical romance book and adding a paranormal twist to it. The idea made the book refreshing and entertaining. Vincent I loved him right off you could tell he had feelings for Lydia, "she took a deep breath and met his gaze. "My lord, did I do anything to displease you? Is that why you have not spoken to me for so long?" The hurt in her voice nearly undid him, along with the look in her eyes. Vincent was struck by such yearning it was like a blow to the chest." Sometimes he doesn't realize what comes out of his mouth, "a haze of red encompassed Vincent's sight as he donned his coat. "How can you be so calm about this? Our women are in danger!" He can be so polite about things, "not here, I cannot have you naked in the duke's library." He's also always so giving, "I like the sound of my name when you're in the throes of pleasure," Vincent murmured in a low, wicked voice. "Now let's see if I can make you scream it this time." I can't wait to see Rafe's story because that uptight boy needs to be taken down a peg or two.

One Bite Per Night has an enchanting blend of genres: historical romance and paranormal romance. I wasn’t quite sure how the two would work together at first, but author Brooklyn Ann did a great job taking the best of both worlds and giving us a new, fresh story with engaging characters.
‘Lydia would remain safe under his care, even from his own kind. His eyes narrowed as he bit his index finger, drawing blood. Especially from his own kind.’
For some, it may seem out of place to have vampires running amok in a romance set in the early 1800s. I, personally, was intrigued when I read the synopsis.

Just One Bite?
Another fantastic story by Brooklyn Ann. This is the story of Vincent, Lord Vampire of Cornwall and Lydia his ward sent to England from America after her parents die. He introduces her to Society with the help of Angelica and her husband Ian,The Lord Vampire of London. That is when he realizes he does Not want to marry her off to someone else. He wants her for himself but how can he get her to love him when he feels like he is a Monster himself? You have to read this book it is a beautiful and sometimes funny love story. I'm looking forward to Rafe's story next.

Love Love Love it! Brooklyn Ann creates vivid heroines full of attitude and passion- the only kind of women who can match her vampire love interests! Well thought out world building that melds regency with a vampire underworld, intertwining actual figures from history nicely.

Waited awhile for this book worth the wait.
Vincent and Lydia were meant for each. He's such noble man taking care of his charges with the great compassion. Sacrifices his own needs to do what is right. A very good happy ever after. Can't for Brooklyn Ann's next book!!!!!!!

I absolutely enjoyed this book. It's another well written book. Vincent and Lydia's story was nice to read. I missed the innocence of a story. And looks like Rafe have an admirer.. Lady Rosslyn. I hope their book is next.

I am someone who enjoys reading paranormal romance so have read quite a few vampire stories but this historical based one is certainly different to others out there. It's the story of a young woman Lydia who has grown up in America but when she is left with no family travels back to England to live with her grandmother . Unfortunately her grandmother has never forgiven Lydia's father for marrying beneath him and refuses to have anything to do with Lydia. Many years ago a pact between her family and the Tremaines of Cornwall was struck and the Countess Morley reminds the current Earl Vincent Tremaine about it and insists he take her granddaughter in. Unbeknown to all though is the fact that Vincent is indeed the one who agreed to help when needed as Vincent is a vampire and he still remembers the debt the owes .
Lydia arrives in England to find she is unwanted by her own family and instead is offered a home with the most intruiging man she has ever met. Vincent is so honourable and has agreed to help launch her into society so that hopefully she can meet the man who will be her husband . Whilst undergoing rigorous preparation for her debut amongst the Ton Lydia realises that it's Vincent himself to whom she feels drawn but he is an unknown quantity that mystifies Lydia. When they travel to London Lydia is a roaring success but her heart is already taken by the somewhat distant Vincent but all is not as it seems and Lydia plunges headlong into danger !
I'm not really sure about this story if honest. It's not a dark or gothic romance although these vampires do have powerful abilities and Vincent is such an upstanding hero that it's impossible not to like him but I wasn't really convinced about the vampire world . It just didn't feel gritty enough to me and I felt it was quite a light take on vampires. The heroine Lydia has been raised in America and in comparison to English girls is quite liberated and independent . I liked that about her and it made me smile but at times I did wonder if maybe the author had made her a little too forward thinking as this is an historical romance and not a contemporary one. They certainly have chemistry and the oh so noble Vincent was a complete revelation as the storyline picked up and events occurred as the plot progressed . It wasn't exactly what I expected and unfortunately some things felt a little predictable to me but it is well written and held my attention so I would certainly try something else by this new to be author .

That was a fun read! I liked both Vincent and Lydia right away. This author is a genius when describing scenes and emotions. I was emotionally startled when Lydia's painting of a sunset was described and Vincent, being a vampire and not having seen a sunset or sunrise in centuries, was brought to tears by the depiction. The set-up for the third book is irresistible.
The hero and heroine of book one are the supporting cast. Angelica (book 1) is a writer, Lydia (book2) is a painter and together with Cassandra (book 3) who is aspiring to be a doctor they put on a Phantasmagoria show which was so richly described I could almost imagine myself being in the audience.

Overall enjoyable! The beginning started out really good, then I lost interest more than halfway through. I just couldn't seem to pick it up after that. Lydia and Vincent had good chemistry together. I also liked the Siddons sisters as well.
