In, ‘A day before my divorce’ two people decide to spend some time together before their divorce is finalized. It has a taste of romance in it and Diksha and Virain feel quite real.
In ‘Theft’ we meet Gauri who steals some money from her master’s locker and runs away. This story has a very important message that highlights the fact that nobody is born a thief.
In ‘Granny's Last Gift of Love’ Samar gets a surprise. This is an emotional one that will touch your heart. ‘The First Love’ explores the age old funda of a school boy with a crush. It lacked the depth and quality of the other short stories in the book.
‘The Improbable Truth’ gives us a look into Madhu’s life – the past and the present. This story has a kind of ‘draw your own conclusions’ sort of feel that made it interesting.
‘A Country with 27 Other Countries’ is about a foreigner’s experience in our country. This is a well narrated story.
‘After College’ is about how a girl’s life changes once she finishes college and gets married. A woman’s perspective is captured well in this story.
In ‘And God said yes’ the issue of caste system is captured well through a woman and her experiences.
‘The Veiled Girl’ tells us the story of Vinit who falls for a girl while commuting in Delhi Metro.

There are a couple of more stories in the book aside from those mentioned above. Overall, there are fifteen stories in the book. Each story is unique and offers something different to its reader. So no matter what the readers’ preferences are, they will find at least one story that they will surely love. Though I have to admit that one or two of them felt like old stuff in new packaging. For me it was ‘A Country with 27 Other Countries’ that takes the top spot in the book.

The best part of this book is the fact that the author being a man has captured women’s perspective really well. He has not only explored some of the issues of women in our society but also given us a look into the minds of some of them. Also, he has shared some messages through each and every story. It is upto the readers to decide how much they would like to take away from the book. The level of depth in most of the stories is admirable and the author has dealt us just enough emotions and sensitivity.

The writing style of the author and his language is simple and the book could do with another round at the editor’s table. It is his narration style that takes the stories up a notch. Another thing that I just have to comment upon are the titles of the story. The titles are too simple and mostly giveaway what the story is about.

Overall, this is a good attempt by a first time author. He holds some promise and I will be watching out for more from him.

**********This book was an author giveaway for a honest review **********

This book was rated 3 stars earlier , but that extra star goes to the effort seen in this book and also the extra effort taken in sending the book across to me. The book got cancelled couple of times due to the fact Amazon has policy for not sending more copies per person or something of that sort and Vishal ensured I got the book by ordering through his friend. I also would like to apologize for the delay in reviewing this book as I was under the weather for the last couple of weeks and couldn't even lift my hand.

Enough of the chit chat and now for the review. I have read several short stories and their collections by many great writers like Rabindranath Tagore, Ruskin Bond or be it O' Henry or Oscar Wilde or Hemingway or I can go on... you get the point.. All these great writers have one thing in common. They move you , they make you adore them and make you feel full of warmth and emotional at the end of reading their works. Similar attempt has been made by Vishal and has been quite successful in patches . A lot of stories move you beyond words, comprehending that there is humanity, there is sorrow/joy to those you see in your everyday life.

***Spoiler Alert***
Couple of stories I would like to mention, one of them was 'Theft' which has your cast rooting to see what happens to the maid and waiting to see whether her master sends her to jail. It has a twist. How her master understands the situation and quite sagely helps her family in the timely need. It tells you there are several incidents in your life you need to step back and look at the big picture.

The other story Let's turn Oldies give you the dull warmth at the end of the story and this is the kind of story everyone wants to read (I won't give away as this is beautiful ).

Now to the 'Not so good' parts in this book which will help Vishal in his next outing and more so as a reader what he can help get his perspective.
Many of the stories are realistic in nature and you could easily relate. Some of the others are cliched and you could say BAH. You know what I mean. At the end of it all, you still want more but leaves you all that unfulfilled. The context where I am stating from may seem harsh but apparently the book needs some more polished writing and clearly Vishal has great potential to do so.

Emotionally unplugged in few but leaky in some. To wait and watch for the new kid on the block for some explosive writing!

all the stories have a specific meaning n even a lesson to all of us.......

1.'A day before my divorce'-magic of love, yah exactly that was shown between the couple who actually patched up just before getting apart for lifetime,,after all understanding matters....

2.'Lets turn oldies'-argument is only worth of when it's truly an argument, before becoming an opportunist one should care for other things too..

3.'Theft'-circumstances sometimes makes u do many things but realizing ur own fault can pardon u....

4.'Granny's last gift of love'-grandparents are really very important to us n their love ,blessings is much more valuable than any precious things n there is nothing more tragic than losing them forever......

5.'The first love'-the fragrance of the aroma of the loved one's presence makes u enter to heaven n it's an awesome feeling n this feeling is only in fate of some fortunate ones.

6.'The improbable truth'-telling the bitter truth is better than giving a lie the form of truth though it's unbearable......

7.'A country with 27 other countries'-mentality difference,we ourselves create such cheap thinking among us like caste n all but humanity is of more priority....

8.'After college'-though they got apart but it is said that a friend in need is a friend indeed.finally they were together in their needs n that's the most important.....

9.'One wild night'-tit for tat,yah sometimes one should be given the chance to make out what they are worth of..

10.'And god said yes'-it's just a thinking whether we r hindu, muslim or etc..but the main thing is we r human being n we should remember that always...

11.'The veiled girl'-love doesn't need to know who you are, what you can be n all those stupid thoughts,,it just happens n it's rare to get a true love....

12.'The groom'-love for studies should be given more priority than thinking about ur child's marriage to the parents..

13.'The misunderstanding'-there is no place of any kinda misunderstandings in any relationships so one should clear it before it creates a huge problem.

14.'Flowers of hope'-it's that sometimes we get to know what we should do from others works........

15.'Karma returns'-good deeds and bad deeds come back..it's very true,u've to pay for what u've done......

nicely depicted, some stories could be much better, still nice stories,,well done (Y)

The book has such a descriptive emotional content that while reading one feels as he himself is the character being narrated by the author.
It depicts a clear picture on the core societal issues such as divorces - soon after marriages, deterioration of politics into an undignified pursuit and it's effects on our country's the global repute, a minor's vulnerability to commit crimes, caste - the great hurdle for marriages in Indian societies and day-to-day downfall of morality in every aspect of the concrete-jungle led life.

The most amusing part of the book sketches a flourishing love-story that fades out with time after the two part their way but all of a sudden it drizzles an essence of light romance, when the duo meet again. The author has quite delicately portrayed the religion-based diversity in the society, and the new generation's temperament to handle such issues with utmost simplicity, as if it never existed.

An effective way of narration by putting some famous quotations by visionary authors in context to the stories is presented beautifully by the author. His truly sincere efforts to present subtle yet less discussed propositions are deeply appreciated.

The book is definitely a must-read for all!

Emotions Unplugged is an anthology of 15 short stories and every single story is fed highly with emotions. Sometimes, the emotions produce a beautiful symphony of words, whereas at some other times, it fails to produce the perfect melody.

Nevertheless, there are some stories in Emotions Unplugged that are so beautiful, heart touching and profound that they will surely leave an imprint in your heart.

The first story of the anthology “A day before my divorce” is definitely one of the best stories of the book. The emotions of the to-be-divorced couple Diksha and Virain are beautifully captured in the story. I couldn’t help but admire at the story telling skills of the author when I read this story.

Emotions Unplugged is a book that everyone will relate to as we all are enslaved by emotions...aren't we? Therefore, if you want to read a couple of short and sweet stories filled with emotions, pick up this book right away.

2.5* actually.
So this book is a set of 15 stories, each dealing with some different emotion. The idea of such a compilation is good and so is the theme of every story but the writing is not up to the mark. I am not saying that one needs big and difficult sounding words to convey emotions. The simpler the narration, easier it is for a reader to connect with it.
The narration in this book was very ordinary. It was simple but not so good that it would keep the reader engrossed for long. There is a lot of room for improvement and I hope the author works on it while writing his next book.
The stories were good but could have been better. There were also a few grammatical errors in the book.
Overall, this book didn't manage to impress me much.

Review Time :- Emotions Unplugged By Vishal Anand

This book is a collection of "Fifteen stories"..In this book the writer has captured the real human emotions varying from fairy tale romance to the harsh realities of life...From Grandparents - Grand child relationship to Father daughter relation...From Flowers of Hope to Lesson by karma, This book is an unplugged glimpse of human emotions.

My Favourite among all are :-
-: A Day Before My Divorce
:-The Improbable Truth
:-After College
:- The Groom
:- Flowers of Hope

Detailed Glimpse of this book story wise :-
:- A Day Before My Divorce
They loved, they fought, they decided to depart and one day prior to their divorce they met and.....it is said that "The couples that are 'meant to be' are the ones who go through everything that is meant to tear them apart, and come out even stronger than they were before".
Hence :-Simple yet so natural emotion of love was beautifully expressed..

:- Let's Turn Oldies
They Say "Respect your elders, Because they made through school without any Google or Wikipedia"
This was aptly conveyed in this story,Nowadays our generation is in so much hurry and is so self-obsessed with them-self, that they have totally ignored the fact that our elders know this life better than we know and they need to be respected for that...Gandhigiri Was the highlight on this story
Hence, It was short But Impactful story, The motive of the author was good but i feel execution could have been better...

:-Theft
There is no one either good or bad, but circumstances make them so...
In this story, Author has focused on the "Bad circumstances" that can convert a good human being into an evil one...Another thing which was highlighted in this story was, Rather than judging someone try to understand their situations...
Hence, A story with a positive lesson but somewhere lacks that originality aspect(because nowadays getting this kind of reaction for such acts and understanding ur circumstances behind ur evil acts is very rare, whether u do or don't u will be judged anyways )

:-Granny's Last Gift Of Love
A Grandparent is someone with Silver in their Hair and Gold in their Heart..
Personally i don't understand this selfless bond between grandparents and a grandchild because my grandparents left this world before i was born but i have seen and heard that this is a beautiful bond of selfless love, care and yummy food (tongue out :P) For those who are blessed with this god's greatest gift please cherish it before they leave u forever..
Hence,Emotional story, but for me i was "dis-connected" throughout as i have not experienced this emotion but for those who have cherished this bond, will love it..

:- The First Love
They say first love never dies and the innocence of that teenage love is the purest one...Well, this story captures the innocence, excitement and craziness of that "first love"..
Hence, A sweet fairy tale with which most of us will connect to !!

:- The Improbable Truth
No matter how good u are today u will be always be judged by ur past deeds, because the past sins don't leave a person till death...
Hence, can relate to this one, truth was spoken

:- A Country With 27 Other Countries They say united we stand divided we fall.India is country that is divided by politicians on basics of caste,reservations,localities,etc...
Hence, Dark sights of the politics were exposed...But i felt that the "sync" was somewhere missing..

:-After College
Since childhood we are taught that there is no difference between girls and boys, but than why we are often asked to sacrifice our dreams for the betterment of male sections of the society...
Hence, being a pair of "x" chromosomes i felt this story have that "real touch" to it...

:- One Wild Night
Life is a Boomerang. What you give, You Get..Simply means what goes around comes around...
Hence,Topic of karma was chosen by the author but was not portrayed well, this story was bit "Off Track"

:-And God Said Yes !
According to some narrow mind peeps "love is a crime and lovers are the criminals"..Inter-Caste love story,mother-in-law's orthodox thinking, one incident occurs and ??
Hence,This was kind off "Bollywood Masala", message conveyed was good but nothing new and innovative

:-The Veiled Girl
Love is a meeting of two souls, fully accepting the dark and the light within each other, bound by the courage to grow through struggle into bliss...Girl with dark past, scared to fall in love, meets the hero and ??
Hence, Totally fairy tale kind of story...do people like this guy exists in this "high tech selfish"world ??

:- The Groom
Every Girl has a right to give wings to her dreams..One should not be bent upon curbing her dersires...We talk about equality then why household responsibilities are only females duty?? Why girl has to sacrifice her dreams??
Hence, A story with an effective message and Father-Daughter relation was exceptionally written...

:-The Misunderstanding
They say the longest distance between two people is misunderstanding...Sometimes its important to clear misunderstandings so that you need not be regretful later when truth knocks at the door of your conscience...
Hence,Another simple but impact-full story with a pinch of Bollywood spices to it(Elevator power cut and all,Quite Filmy)

:-Flowers Of Hope
A great story with a social awareness message, someone somewhere has to initiate this noble cause Because everybody has the right to live irrespective of their gender differences...
Hence,One of the finest story of this book....

:- Karma Returns
"People who create their own Drama, Deserve their own Karma"
No matter wherever u run or u switch places you have to face ur karma sooner or later...
"What u sow is what u Reap"
Hence, The example use was different no doubts but the outcome or lesson was the same that " what goes around comes around" ....Felt a bit repetitive

Hit and Miss of the book :-
:-Majority of the stories have that "real positive social message" to it whereas few were pure fairy tale stuff
:- Concept or motive was bang on but somewhere execution was lacking
:- Language was simple and understandable but there were minor printing mistakes
:- Title of the book, quotes were superb but somewhere that sync between the stories was missing...

Overall , a simple light read with many topping of human emotions served in one book...

Rating :- 3.75/5

"Time can really be difficult to kill when you have a lot on your mind."

This collection of beautifully crafted short stories is filled with deep emotions, as the title suggests. Each story is of common people like one of us, and teaches us a lesson of life. In each one the protagonists find themselves in a situation, and a point of realisation of a simple truth.

Short tales that deal with social issues like divorce, theft, caste system of India, the realisation of the love for our grandparents and their love for us, falling in love for the first time, and with a stranger, two about Karma and many more, just so lovingly created that it doesn't seem like fiction, rather seems very real.

Inspired from real events these heartfelt tales are truly sweet and this is probably the best collection of short stories I've ever read.
Before each story lies a quote from a famous entity, that's related to the story that follows. This lovely book will stay close to my heart! I love the simple yet effective cover depicting all of the emotions.

It's fair to say that I was up all night reading this one on a Sunday, not that I sleep on the other nights, but this one kept me away from my phone until I finished it and started drafting this review.
The favourite ones- Theft, First Love, One Wild Night, that one was unexpectedly hilarious!

My Detailed Review:

Story No 1 - A DAY BEFORE MY DIVORCE
This story is one of my favorite stories out of all. This story gyrate around 2 lead characters Diksha and Vikram and they being a couple are at the urge of getting divorced but the twist comes up in the story when Vikram tries to meet Diksha and the whole thing between them gets ok when they realize love for each other which was just faded because of their busy lives.. Here in the story I loved the way Author has described their pain of getting alienated. I loved this story as I personally love to read stories with the happy ending.

Story No 2 - LET’S TURN OLDIES
I couldn’t connect with this story. It talked about life’s lesson but the description and the end of this story made it one of the weakest parts of the book.

Story No 3- THEFT
This story touched my heart; it is an emotional tale where many emotions are described in the restricted word count. It is a story of poor girl who works as a maid at some kind hearted rich businessman. And again the lesson is been taught here in the story that person is not bad it’s all about the circumstances which force us to do take such steps which are not acceptable in the the social order.

Story No 4: GRANNY’S LAST GIFT OF LOVE
This story made me emotional! Yes I could feel the soreness of losing our grandparent in this story; if I say I lived those moments with Samar it would not be erroneous. Author here in this story have lived up to my expectations by the way of narrating it. Take a bow Vishal!

Story No 5: THE FIRST LOVE
The narration of this Love story was satisfactory but the plot and the description could have been much better with another round of editing. A very much common story!

Story No 6: THE IMPROBABLE TRUTH
No matter how hard you try you can never release yourself with the sins of your past this is what story No 6 The Improbable Truth tries to articulate. I again loved the portrayal of the story and Author has been successful in upholding the suspense element. I enjoyed reading it.

Story No 7: A COUNTRY WITH 27 OTHER COUNTRIES
Every coin has 2 sides in the same manner another side of our country is been shown here in this story. A Nice Read!

Story No 8: AFTER COLLEGE
One of the most interesting and undoubtedly strong story of the book. This tale talks about teen age love life, Past memories and dilemma linking past and present life of the girl named Aditi, This story also talks about true love at the last part. Beautiful Story!

Story No 9: ONE WILD NIGHT
Again the different story, A very strong plot indeed! Yes I couldn’t predict the end till the time I finished reading it. I really enjoyed reading this story and the description done by the author made it a strong story for this book.

Story No 10: AND GOD SAID YES!
Being an Indian I see and experience unpleasant incidents like this almost daily where lovers are not allowed to live together because of their so called different castes. Beyond this a beautiful incident is been described where what a father feels to hold her daughter for the very first time.

Story No 11: THE VEILED GIRL
This story is all about Love! Many authors and poets have tried to define love by their own personal experiences and here in this story author tries to put a message saying Love is a feeling behind comprehension. We can simply feel the magic of it by loving someone unconditionally, understanding, appreciating and by accepting one as they way they are.

Story No 12: THE GROOM
Again one of my favorite stories of the book it was! I could relate really well with this plot. Each girl has right and freedom to live her life independently. No each and every girl wants and deserves to become a housewife. Here in this story a pure relation between a father and a daughter is made known which in my opinion made this story all time favorite story for each girl.

Story No 13: THE MISUNDERSTANDING
Again a pleasant Read! This story is all about friendship, the significance of it in one’s life. We have been reading poems quotes novels and stories over this theme; here author has tried to portray the value of this relation with a trouble-free writing style yet a very valuable message – Each relation meet with problems/ misunderstandings in the voyage of life It entirely depends on us how we make up after those incidents while keeping aside our ego and self respect.

Story No 14: FLOWERS OF HOPE
A beautiful picture of a girl is been shown here in this story by the author. It is an Emotional tale with a strong message in it. Real life heroes can be seen with naked eyes if we have that sight of looking at them optimistically. Loved this story to the core!

Story No 15: KARMA RETURNS
A wonderful message is given here by the author here in this last story of this book. They say Karma Returns yes it does.

My Favorite stories were:
Story No 1 - A Day Before My Divorce
Story No 10: And God Said Yes!
Story No 11: The Veiled Girl
Story No 12: The Groom
Story No 14: Flowers Of Hope

My view:
Cover of the book is not so appealing. But they said never judge a book by its cover! Yes Vishal has proved this statement true!

I would also like to give special credit for the quotes before evey story; they added a lot of flavor. The selection of quotes was very good.
Overall, Emotions Unplugged was quite a fun read, it had all important elements because multiple genres have been chosen wisely by the author. A great effort. Take a bow gentlemen; Emotions unplugged is a job well done.

They say Author can make you laugh and cry both at the same time. Yes you were successful in doing this I was emotional while reading And God said Yes! And at the other end I was smiling thinking of my father while reading the groom.

I personally feel all other stories were a good read for me except story No 2. And few of the editing errors were seen while reading it but they can be neglected taking into account the strong plots of the stories.

I would like to give 4 out 5 for this book.

Here are my reviews for your stories in Emotions Unplugged-

1. A Day before My Divorce-
A good story with a nice description of the day before the divorce.
It had a good message that be whatever the situation is, the true love and the trust in relationship never dies.

Let's Turn Oldies- This is a real life experience and it is observed everywhere.
It gives us a message that the elders and the old people should be given respect and a status of diginity.
They sacrifice for us the whole life, we should also payback for the sacrifices they make.

3. Theft- Theft is indeed a wrong thing. It is a crime.
But, the motive of theft mentioned in this story clearly indicates that the theft is sometimes done for the necessity and urgency, if the person is helpless.
A good story written by Vishal Anand.

4. Granny's Last Gift Of Love-
It's a heart touching and emotional story written by Vishal.
It seems to be a personal write-up.

5. The First Love-
An innocent puppy love story which surely reminds you of your crush or your first love.

6. The Improbable Truth-
A good story with a theme that though we forget our dreadful past and move on in life by improving ourselves, our past still follows us.

7. A Country with 27 Other Countries-

The phrase 'Atithi Devo Bhava' suits the most for this story.
This phrase means Guests are God.
A good story with a sense of brotherhood and also a sense of respect towards the guests.

8. After College-
This story threw light on the past love which came as a saviour for the present love.
Well written.

9. One Wild Night-
OMG !! I never thought of such type of revenge being taken by a friend.
Hahahahaha...
A good story focussing on the revemge.

10. And God Said Yes ! -
This story threw light on caste discrimination. It gave a good message of the sense of brotherhood, humanity and relegion equality.
All are one. No one is inferior.

11. The Veiled Girl-
A very good love story written.
It gives us a message that though the dreadful past destroys the hapviness and the trust in life, only pure love recovers it and brings the lost possessions.

12. The Groom-
A very nice story which threw light on the equality of the status of girls.
Girls also have the right to walk shoulder to shoulder with boys.
This is what this story has focussed on.

13. The Misunderstanding-
A story well written on the theme of misunderstanding and the way it sorted out.
It is always better to sort out the misunderstandings than to create lots of suspesions and differences.

14. Flowers of Hope-
A very good story written focussing onthe aspect of humanity.
The kindness within us never dies.

15. Karma Returns-
A perfect story which threw light on Karma and deed.
The proverb 'Whatever you sow, so shall you reap' clearly suits here.
It gives us a message that Karma pays for whatever we do.....

A collection of 15 stories well written and had good messages.
Overall, I would like to give this book 4 stars out of 5.

I bought Emotions Unplugged after seeing people's review at different portals and forums. A talk with Vishal strenghthened my urge to read the book. Vishal is not only the owner of a big heart but he also has deep knowledge about human emotions. May be that's the reason why he named the book Emotions Unplugged. The book explains the title very well. It contains all the emotions and feelings that a person contains from his/her birth till death. The short stories are short, yet they never decrease the enthusiasm of the reader. It's charm increases page by page and word per word it turned out to be best buy. I read it while travelling in a very hectic condition. It strengthened me and also made me realize the importance of feelings which different individuals have for their loved ones. It taught me many things Which I will keep in mind and respect them whenever I will experience them. Last but not the least, this book isn't just a book with few short stories. Vishal has opened his heart and poured his feelings in a way that everyone (especially me) will cherish for long.

A must read! :)

A must buy... :)

The book is a fusion of stories based on several human emotions. The book comprises of 15 interesting short stories. The cover of the book is also attractive and catches the mind of a reader immediately.

Each and every story has been given a blend of emotions. Although the stories are fiction tales yet while reading it one feels as if they are real. In short, the stories have been given a realistic touch.

Some stories in it like the 2nd and 7th one could have been written more perfectly but others were good. Stories such as the 8th and 11th had less of emotions and left quite loose. Stories like the 1st, 3rd, 9th, 10th and 15th really touch the heart. Also, a part of story no. 10th isn’t published and then it again continues on the next page. This error breaks a reader’s link to the story. Otherwise, the book is good and enjoyable too. I would give it 3.65 out of 5. Readers should purchase and read Emotions Unplugged!

It's an amalgamation of 15 stories with a pinch of salt, sugar, spice and other culinary mixed into and served to the readers. It scores brownie points when it touches sensitive topics related to women and sheds light on various darker recesses of man and his behaviour. The stories are simple, a few of them quite effective in narration. It gives voice to voiceless and renders the path with quite ease.

The book falls short in the first half and fails to ignite the exact passion which is present in the second half. The grammatical mistakes too find place in the book. Some stories not up to the mark and falling short on expectations.

All in all the book opens up a new area of exploring everyday opportunities and tries to put everything on the same wavelength. It succeeds but it falters too. The neutral effect keeping the poise alive. A book to be read once.

Five stars for the debut book, a soulful and emotional experience. All the stories are different from each other but hold a familiarity somewhere or the other in one's life. If you are fond of short stories this one will surely be a nice experience. The best part of all the stories none of them leave you devastated, each story ends on a happy note and leaves you hopeful and joyful. Thumbs up to the author, hoping to get some more fine stories from the storyteller.
