Sophia Jameson is the daughter of adult entertainment mogul, Paul Jameson. She suffers from an abusive past and sees nothing wrong with sleeping around; after all, sex is a cure for her depression. A long-term relationship with any man is not on the agenda⏤until she meets Cove Everton. The two fall fast and hard, diving into a relationship they know will be forbidden by Sophia's father.
Cove Everton was once the biggest star of Jameson Industries. Forced into the company at a young age, he still suffers mental and physical scars from the business owned by Paul Jameson. Angst-ridden and tormented that his family's been blackmailed and his father framed for crimes that were committed by Paul, he continues to work for the adult industry, hoping to discover proof that will bring Paul to his knees and set his father free.
Desert Star is intended for mature audiences due to strong language, explicit sex, and abusive situations.
This book isn't a stand alone and it's a dark read that gets darker. This book picks up after Fallen Snow. My heart just brakes for Cove. He's finally found the love of his life and is willing to do ANY THING to keep Sofia, including sacrifice his own well being in more ways then one. If you are looking for the hot alpha male, that takes charge, you won't find that here. He's been through so much, and every time he tries to fight for himself, he's beat back down. The beatings are the least of the torture Cove has to worry about for the last 10 plus years of his life. Sofia, is still quick to react and be her selfish, woe is me, think of consequences later character. There are very few books who can make me jump emotions so quick when it comes to characters, but AJ has definitely done that in this series. This is my second time through and I think the emotional rollercoaster is worse. I don't want to give any more away, but I highly recommend this series.
Cove and Sophia are in love and together they make a plan to go to Las Vegas to look for Sophia’s friend, who has left the city in a hurry and they suspect that Paul Jameson has taken her against her will. In Las Vegas they have time to visit Cove’s family and do things like visit museums,etc... before the meeting with Paul. The first time Cove and Paul see each other, Cove acts like a submissive in front of Paul but the second time he offers a video that shows how he loses his virginity with Sophia and offers to put it online and put Sophia on the market. Sophia loses her mind, thank God. Sophia is taken to Paul’s house in Las Vegas, they drug her, they mark her as cattle s one more porn actress and yet she signs a contract with her father authorizing him to use her image. WTF!!!! I was really disappointed with this girl, I was expecting some more character, therapy with the shrink was not worth it at all. And what is better, the book ends with her and Cove having sex again, telling each other that they love each other while they are being watched by Sophia’s father cameras. I do not understand how Sophia can continue to love and trust Cove after everything he has done. Seriously?????😡😡 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I couldn't put this book down, I read non stop. where to begin. I love Cove, he is a victim and is finally be loved to have that snatched away. Sophia has really grown up and is much more likable . I love her and Cove together. Sophia's father will not be getting the father of the year award ever. he is horrible. I hope he gets a bullet. its almost midnight and I just finished. I really want to start third one but I know I will be up all night if I do. I recommend this series, So many twist and surprises.
NOTE: Cove's not an alpha. He's a passive character who's dominated by Sophia's father. The trilogy contains frequent sex scenes, physical and psychological abuse, and sensitive subject matter involving teens.
Just when I though this story couldn't get any darker or twisted...it does.
Pretty much everything I could say would be a spoiler.
We do get to know more about Cove and what went on in his past. I would like to know why Paul is the way he is. It can't be just because his 'slut' crazy ex-wife stole and squandered his early money.
The relationship Cove and Sophia have, I think will always be very challenging...
It's been a long time since a series has held on to me so tight. I wanted to glaze over the words like I often do, but Aven Jayce is so good with them that I am captivated by every page. A must read after Fallen Snow.
This series is getting better & better. A very gripping dark (subjects)read. The plots just keeps getting deeper and deeper, my love is strong for Cove & Sophia and my hatred for Paul is growing along with the twins.
Wow, this continuation of Sophia and Cove is an emotional rollercoaster of a ride. Wow, you really have to read this series to understand the depth of the characters.
Holy crap!!!! I’m obsessed with this twisted love story. Cove is someone who will break your heart reliving his past with him and make you fall in love with his vulnerability. He has had to face so much and now he’s in love with the daughter of the man who has turned his life into hell. How he fights past his demons is a story in itself. Love it!
This was way better than the first one. It was so good! Cove is such an interesting male lead. Usually male leads in these books are super alpha. It is interesting to have a character like Cove!
I love Sophia a lot more in this one. She's awesome.
This book delved more into Cove's past and the horrible things he was subjected to do as a child in the sex industry. The control Sophia's father had over him was unbelievable. I was surprised he was as normal as he was. He wanted nothing more than to make his relationship with Sophia work, but he was so broken himself, he made poor judgment calls just to keep her by his side. Sophia no longer cared about her pleasure, but worried whether she pleased Cove. She was no longer self-centered and she was finally happy and not seeking empty sex from strangers for comfort and a sense of belonging.
There was more one-on-one between Cove and Sophia and their relationship blossomed in this book. Cove finally opens up to her and there was hope for a future, if only they could get Sophia's father to back off. Sophia's father was a bastard. He held all of the cards and was the deciding factor in their future. He cared more about his money than the well-being of his daughter. He actually pimped his daughter out for financial gain. His actions were so despicable, I hoped maybe their was some ulterior motive- maybe he wasn't really going to make her do the things he said, but no, he was a complete jackass.
Cove and Sophia both make mistakes that tear them apart and there were times I wished Cove would stand up to her father, but he never did. He wasn't able to beat him physically, so he played to Paul's financial desires, but it backfired every time.
There was no black and white with these characters. Each person had some serious issue that could make or break them, depending on which road they took, but their flaws were what made them so real and interesting. I want a character I hate, love and shake my head at, and this book didn't disappoint.
I'm still so captivated by Sophia and Cove. Very good read though I was surprised that the big "meeting" didn't happen until probably over halfway through the book.
We learn more about Cove and what he went through. You also get to really see who Paul is and what's more important to him, his relationship with his daughter or money? Sophia learns the fate of Mera and also begins to discover more in depth who her father is and what his business is all about.
There's just something about Cove that draws me in. He's a different kind of book boyfriend that's for sure but he definitely means well.
In part 2, we learn more about Cove and his tortured past at the hands of Paul Jameson, and just how far and wide Paul's reach and depravity really are.
I'm quiet as I listen to how Cove spent his teenage years. Would I be as strong as he is today if I had gone through the same thing?
We also find Sophia and Cove trapped in an unimaginable situation, all at the direction of her own father. Does he have no boundaries? So many truths are uncovered. Can they endure?
We're exhausted, sore, bruised, and beaten...but in love
My feelings on book 2 are pretty consistent with book 1. I'd give it a 3.5. I don't care for the characters (any of them) and at times I have a hard time connecting with them. I like Sophie less in book 2, her behavior is shockingly juvenile and there isn't a single character I wouldn't like to tell off.
I continue to enjoy the story as a whole though there are definitely several things that prevent me from LOVING it. I would continue to recommend this series.
the series vaguely reminded me of mistress and masters of restraint series b/c of the six degrees things. I love Cove and then I didn't. I mean, I know these things can be very far fetched, and I loved series, but I don't like when I can find plot holes. I am distracted by shiny objects and easily distracted, and even I retained enough to go "hmmmmmm, how can that be?" Cove can be so sweet sometime, need insulin. But if u like em F'd up with some humor and nice characters, you will like this
Not good...story line isn't bad but dialogue is horrendous!! Sex scenes are about a chapter long and almost funny. I really tried to like this one after not liking the first, but I just couldn't.
This book is not boring. Cove has been so beaten down physically & figuratively. Sophia is learning secrets about her father & his work. This story is riveting, the characters are well developed, more secrets are revealed. There is a lot of heartache & gut-wrenching moments in this instalment. Looking forward to the next.....
