Look. If I had to spend a couple hundred dollars on this book AND it's going to dominate my life for the next few months... it's sure as hell going to count for my reading challenge
While A&P is interesting to a point, I did NOT enjoy this class or this book.
However, since I did read Every. Single. Word. in this book, and spent the last eight months of my life as if this were my bible, I am OWNING it! I read this book, and am currently in finals week, going into finals with a solid A, thank you very much!!!
I can't really write a conclusive review on how good the text is, but I feel like my brain is exploding with knowledge right now. My study buddy and I would look at each other and laugh at the words coming out of each other's mouths. Like, who really cares at what stage of meiosis the primary oocyte becomes a secondary oocyte and how many chromosomes are in each stage? Apparently I'm supposed to, so I'll pretend! Can't say it was fun...it's the hardest class I've ever taken. But I sure did learn a couple of new things ;)
Now, if only textbooks didn't cost this ridiculous amount of money!
Textbook, you cost far too much money. I mean, really? I work in publishing, and I know how it's all a rip-off, but come on. That much? That's ridiculous. Sure you have pretty pictures of clavicles and great diagrams of the Action Potential that helped me understand, but I just know that money is not going to the artists or authors or lowly editorial assistants. So give them more money or make the book cheaper.
Textbook, you are too heavy. It hurt to have you in my bag with one other heavy thing or a multitude of light things. Please be less heavy? And I don't want to read you on an a iExpensiveReader thing. I like books, but I like it when they're not so heavy. I don't really know what you can do about that, but maybe you can pay for me to get a massage now, because my back hurts.
That said, textbook, you were good to me. You got me through A&P, and sometimes you even made me smile a little with your subtle wit. I'm going to keep you around, textbook, and maybe some day when we're old and gray we can laugh about how once upon a time you said there was no cure for cancer. At least I hope so.
Considering the amount of information in this book, it really was compiled well. That being said, it still wasn't an easy read. I understand how the many acronyms are necessary, but for a complete beginner, it was a little rough to keep track of.
Well, this book got me through two semesters of A&P. Now, on to Microbiology. I will be keeping this book. It served as a great reference for learning the body systems.
This was the text book for my General A&P class, but it is not the first book I go to when I have a question. It is way too much information for my class. Class has a 40% pass rate, so I don't think it's that the class is really easy, but this book is so in-depth it's way more information than I care to cloud my brain with. It sounds awful, but I really like The Complete Idiot's Guide to A&P. I gets to the point of what I need to know and has a lot of really helpful tips & tricks to remember things.
This is my favorite A and P textbook ever. it is comprehensive, readable without big and unnecessary words. I will be using it for A-N-P I, and II and i'm very happy with it so far. the only thing i dislike about this book is the price, so for those who can't afford a new one get a older edition. same thing trust me my friend is using the 3rd ed and he's A student.
Not bad as textbooks go, well written, learned a lot about how the body works, in fact When my son asked me about how people become Diabetic, I could take him through the whole kit and kaboddle from the two types, their latin names, organs involved, etc, etc.
Wow! What an intense and overwhelming class. There is just so much information to know. I'm happy to say I am in FINALS WEEK, and can kiss this class goodbye.
......only until next semester when I will then take AP2 :(
It was a nice trip with this book, I learnt from it a lot of things in our body & how each organ is work and what's it contains . It has a great pictures with great order of each information >> so I advice you to read this book & I hope to enjoy with it :)
For any one studying human anatomy as part of their course this book is a godsend you cannot do without but get it from a library because it's expensive. If you are a student and want top grades this book is for you but it's also a valuable resource for any healthcare workers.
School books count, right??? This is a dense one, but necessary for nursing school. Anyone know of any good nursing books (fiction or non) that are entertaining?? Do let me know!
Useful text, got an A. Previous edition was better. Screw you and your unnecessary "updates" to overcharge broke med students - and then remove information!
I hardly recommend it for medical students ,especially for pre-med. When i read a topic i feel like a teacher is in front of me, explaining all the hard concepts in a genius way...
This is the first textbook i have ever actually read beginning to end. Spent HOURS and WEEKS and MONTHS of my life in this book. So of course it’s going on my goodreads :)
This is going to be possibly my all time favorite non-fictional book. I can't imagine returning it to the book store for a cash payout, regardless of how much of the purchase price I get back. NEVER LETTING IT GO. Very knowledge. So fascinate. Much enlighten. I wouldn't say to go out and buy this new: the list price is very prohibitive!! I would say if you find any edition of this in a used bookstore for less than $50 you should fight off tigers to buy it. Everyone should become familiar with this material. It's all about YOU! And me. And your mum. And your kids. And your lover. And and and and... The two classes I took that had me read this material decided me (along with other factors, no lie) that I am going to pursue nursing instead of dental hygiene. I want to know more of this--one body cavity isn't enough. LOL!!
Good diagrams, the tables are more useful than the text in many chapters. We used this textbook for help during lab time as well. Fantastic for learning to tell vertebrae apart but not so great on its own for most other items. Definitely check out Crash Course A&P series in YouTube if you don't have an online text access code. Learning all the muscles---use flashcards but defer to diagrams in the text, I got a lot more information from it than from my lecture class. Can help, but can risk info overload.
this textbook is a work of a genius, a must-have for every medical student, it contains a very rich & illustrative diagrams that makes understanding concepts very easy, and an easy language that makes informations pass throug my brain so quickly. It has been a wonderful journey in the human body from molecules to reproduction of a hole new body, thanks a lot Elain Marieb for this Masterpiece.
Hermosamente escrito.
Took my last undergraduate anatomy final on Friday and couldn't have been more satisfied. This book is detailed when it needs to be and illustrated in a way that makes it more understanding and memorable. One of the best classes and heaviest book I've truly learned a lot from.
Great textbook and study material. I had a professor who wasn't that great and this book got me through the class with an 88%. A very much liked the diagrams and the cadaver photos prepared me for my first cadaver lab - aside from the smell.
