Rate this book
Ever since Jared lost control to his shadow and nearly killed Kyle he has tried to atone for his mistakes. Now that Kyle and Steven are Shades, Jared has made it his personal quest to train them to use their Shadowtalent for good. Every decision has consequences, and Jared’s determination to right his wrongs by training the two high school bullies has created a rift with Sadie and his other friends.
Meanwhile, scores of shadows escape the Council’s Shade prison and Elijah continues his search for an obsidian crafter who can help him create weapons that will give him the upper hand in a battle with the Shadowcouncil. To complicate things further, a mysterious loose shadow has begun to follow Jared, sometimes helping him, and sometimes encouraging him to give in to his darkest urgings.
When the Shadowcouncil sends Jared to capture a former obsidian crafter, he begins to question the motives of the secretive organization. Choices that once seemed black and white have become complicated shades of gray. Unwilling to hand the obsidian crafter over to the Shadowcouncil or Elijah, Jared struggles to find other Shades he can trust.
After all, every Shade does something they regret.
