On a bitter January night, private detective Sam Carlisle steps out of a nightclub and stumbles across a severely wounded man prostrate on the freezing ground. Despite Sam's efforts to save him, the stranger dies in his arms, uttering three small words before taking his final breath.
Help. Me. Find.
In the days that follow, the tragic encounter plays increasingly on Sam's mind. Who was the victim? What was he trying to find? With the police investigation drawing a total blank, Sam searches for the truth himself, determined to carry out the dead man's cryptic final request. However, following in the footsteps of a murdered man brings plenty of danger of its own.
Sam Carlisle is out having drinks with friends. His friends wanted to go into a dingy club and after many drinks his friends were both sitting at the table asleep. Sam's cell did not have reception in the club so he was headed outside to get a signal to call a cab. At this late hour he was directed to the side exit because the front door to the club was locked for the night. The exit led out to an alley. As Sam punched in the numbers, he heard a weak groan. Sam moved toward the noise coming from behind a dumpster. Sam found a man lying on his back, eyes wide open and his upper body covered in blood. Sam called for an ambulance and tried to comfort the man until help arrived. Sam was well aware that this man might not make it. His last words end up being, "Help...me...find..."
Sam was known in Newgate and beyond as the private investigator that got results. Much to the dismay of Detective Inspector Robins, Sam cannot get the lifeless, nameless and most likely homeless man out of his mind. The police are not having any luck so far even identifying the man much less finding who murdered him. Sam is also under the impression that Robins isn't putting this case real high up on his list of priorities. So Sam sets out to find the dead man's name and find his killer even though no one has hired him in the case and Robins has warned him to stay out of it.
A fast read with a good story line that has unexpected turns of events, just enough to keep your wandering who the victim is and why anyone would have wanted him dead. Sam just might be in over his head and he definitely stays many steps ahead of the local law enforcement.
My 1st book read, written by: Michael Joseph ... Amazon suggested it. Loved it. Couldn't put it down. a thriller of sorts, edge of your seat kind of read for me. Well written, With bits of Tragedy, Whodunit, Mystery. I will be checking into more of Michael's book for my TBR list very very soon, when the time allows. ( ;
This is a story about Sam who is leaving a bar one night and finds a dying man in the alley. The man says words that won't leave Sam. He decides to find out about the man, his name, his past, how he ended up in the alley, why he said those words, and what really happened to him.
This book kept me reading with all the twists and turns. If you want a good book, you won't go wrong with this one.
This is a good story but didn't have the thrill I like to find in a book. No sitting on the edge of my seat or reading all night. But it was ok. I don't plan to read any more of the series though.
I'm just beginning to get into mysteries so haven't read a lot of them and can't be a good judge yet. However I will say this story kept me thinking about it and wanting to get back to it in between reading sessions. I think that is a positive sign.
