An expert at catching bank robbers, FBI Special Agent Blaine Campbell isn’t sure who to trust. He’s just rescued the beautiful assistant manager from being abducted by robber — but was it an inside job? What if pregnant Maggie Jenkins wasn’t a hostage but a co-conspirator?
After several harrowing attempts on the young widow’s life, the steely Blaine relies on his instincts. Maggie wasn’t involved. The only thing she’s guilty of is stealing his heart. Risking his life to find Maggie’s would-be killers has become more than a job. She and her unborn child could be the future he never imagined for himself. All he has to do is keep her alive.

I really enjoyed this book. It had nonstop action. Maggie worked for a bank when it got robbed. Afterwards she moved to a new location, and worked for a new bank. It wasn't long before the new bank she worked for got robbed. This time the mask men shot a security guard, and attempted to kidnap her. FBI agent Blaine Campbell got there just in time, to pull her from the mask men. Throughout the story the mask men kept attempting to kidnap Maggie, and handsome Blaine was protecting her, and her unborn baby. The suspense was intriguing as to why they wanted Maggie so badly. Did they think she knew who they were? Did she see something, she does not remember? Maggie's fiancé died a few months ago when he was deployed serving in the military. He was the only one she told about her job at the bank, and procedures. A dead man can't talk...
I loved the chemistry, and friendship that built between Maggie, and Blaine. My favorite kind of books are action, with romance. This book had it all. I loved it. Some books are hard to get into, or have places that you just keep reading to get to the good stuff. This book heated up in the first few pages, and burned hot till the last page.
Good book that started with a bang and kept up the tension. Blaine is an FBI agent who specializes in solving bank robberies. He's been sent to Chicago to work on a series of robberies there, and arrives at one bank in the middle of a robbery. He arrived in time to stop them from taking a hostage, but the security guard, who was Blaine's friend, was shot and killed.
Blaine is a bit on the cynical side, and is suspicious of Maggie at first, especially when he learns she worked at another bank that also got robbed by the same people. But after foiling several attempts on her life, he realizes that she is innocent. However, she may still be the key to finding out who is behind it. Blaine just has to find a way to keep his mind on the job and off the attraction he feels for Maggie.
Maggie has been living with a great deal of guilt. Her fiance had been her best friend, and though they'd been engaged, her feelings for him weren't those of a woman in love. He had paid for her ring with his reenlistment bonus, then been killed overseas, and she blames herself. Now she's developing feelings for Blaine that are much different than what she had felt for Andy.
The development of their relationship was fast, thanks to the stresses of trying to keep Maggie safe. They learned a lot about each other in a short period of time. I loved Blaine's protectiveness, which was echoed by Maggie's wish to do whatever necessary that would keep him safe also. The ending was pretty sweet with the way Blaine confessed how he felt.
The suspense of the story was very good. The action was non-stop from the start, as the bad guys kept coming after Maggie. It was pretty clear that they thought she knew something and they were determined to get rid of her before she could say anything. Each encounter seemed to get more intense. The identity of one of the bad guys was pretty obvious, but the discovery of who the brains behind it all was a surprise to me. The constant action kept me hooked from start to finish.
5 happy starssss.. Okay so I read it after reading all the books in the series. And i feel guilty becauseI did it as I thought it wasn't good enough .....But after reading the rest I thought to myself "why not just complete the series." And I am glad I read it because I loved it.... Blaine Campbell was great hero.... Charming and all... And Maggie .. I loved her so much.... So yeahhh 5 stars.. I loved it.... And I now know why Ash was the best Man.... Blaine was SWEETEST most charming FBi agent ever... I loved how he told her that he loved that she talk way to much.WHICH was something people didnt quite like about her. And maybe I am reading to much in this situation but still ,I loved how he loved her perfect unperfection...
Ever get the feeling you should have stayed in bed and covered up your head until when ever will that's what is happening in Lisa Child's new series SPECIAL AGENTS AT THE ALTAR book #1 The Pregnant Witness; Where a very dangerous bank robbing gang is robbing backs in order to get to the Assistant Bank Manager. Unfortunately things went ever wrong ending the two deaths and a failed kidnapping. Will the Hunky F.B.I. Agent in charge get his robbers and the girl or will they both die in trying to stop this crime wave.
The ending is what made me up my rating a bit. It had me sobbing which usually indicates I loved it. It was very moving. Well written. And while the characters grated on my nerves at times I did enjoy them and they made a great team. I enjoyed Blaine's sister too. She made a small appearance near the end and I loved her sarcasm. And I enjoyed this book so much that I want to read special agent Ash's book as well. I do enjoy a good romantic suspense.
FBI special agent Blaine Campbell isn’t sure who to trust. He’s just rescued the beautiful assistant manager from being abducted by robbers—but was it an inside job? What if pregnant Maggie Jenkins was also involved in the good deed?
The story starts in the thick of the action as a bank is getting robbed. Blaine storms the premises but is outmanned and outgunned and barely saves Maggie from being taken hostage by the robbers. Blaine can't help but think of Maggie as being involved in the crime somehow, especially when her connection to the robberies is revealed to him.
I love Lisa Childs' writing, and she writes the best pregnancy + suspense books. Be it the action or the emotional aspects. In The Pregnant Witness, Blaine can't help himself as he suspects Maggie of being in cahoots with the robbers, but he is a big softie when he sees the beautiful Maggie all vulnerable without a partner and a baby on the way.
Ash Stryker is an FBI special agent who specialises in homegrown terrorism and likely about whom the next book would be (I guessed right!), as much as Blaine specialises in bank robberies. There are multiple attempts on Maggie's life thereafter and the story kept up its momentum.
Maggie, to be having a baby so young, couldn't help but feel how perfect Blaine is. And Blaine, never to be distracted from his duty, can't help feeling his attraction toward Maggie on the rise. It was endearing to see an otherwise talkative Maggie getting tongue-tied in front of Blaine.
As far as I am guessing, another book would be about Agent Dalton Reyes (right again, I love guessing the next books in a series like this), from organised crime.
Maggie begins considering Blaine her golden-haired superhero. And Blaine feels Maggie is someone who needs protection from herself. Well, she does, coz I don't know how being an assistant bank manager, she revealed everything about her work as she did to her now dead fiancée.
The story had a super sweet but not-without-danger first and heroic ending.
Special Agent Blaine Campbell has a reputation for solving any bank robbery that came across his desk... 3 sisters, nice family...
Maggie Jenkins: bank teller, a bit alone, best friend since Middle School was Andy... he loved her, she did not romantically love him back; he went into army to prove to her and her father and himself he was man enough - and re-upped for bonus that allowed him to buy her a ring... and she got pregnant, and he died... she wrote letters to him detailing the bank day... she feels guilty for not being truthful with him before he re-upped and died;
Six months pregnant, she was at one bank that was robbed (zombie masks - her fear, long coats)... moved across the state to work at another bank, where Andy's retired boot camp sergeant is working security... and that bank also gets robbed... and they try to take her as hostage...
Blaine is there, at request of Sergeant (his also)... and tries to break up the robbery... and rescues Maggie... and she only feels safe when he is around... he wonders if she is in on the robberies... they try to get her at the emergency room, and 3 other times...
and he starts to tug on threads of Andy's family... and it ends up Andy's brother and his wife (who is jealous of Maggie) are the mastermind of bank robberies... brother was shot by Blaine, and as they didn't get him to hospital...
and Blaine and Maggie are in love...

I liked the book. Both Maggie and Blaine were likable enough characters, but Maggie leaned towards ditzy, needy and manipulative. I had to wonder because she expressed that her baby daddy was her best friend and didn't love him passionately, as a woman wants a man but she had to at least one or else he wouldn't be her baby daddy. The book was well written, and held my interest to the end without skimming. The mystery was a bit transparent but still peaked my interest to see if I was right at the end.
I loved this book. It was so off the wall cray cray how could you not like this book? The TSTL heroine and the handsome FBI agent just made it all the more better.
