Accountant Victoria Hayes never would have thought discovering fraud in her office would put her life at risk. When her house catches fire, destroying the evidence she's collected, it seems the mastermind will do anything to keep Victoria from disclosing what she knows. Unsure what to do, she turns to her charming supervisor for help. But without much evidence, Jeff Tucker is reluctant to believe Victoria…until they both become suspects. Now they must work together to prove their innocence…and stay alive. With an unpredictable—and deadly—criminal after them, each step could be their last.
Fantastic debut novel!!! Nonstop action, quirky humour, and a slow-simmering romance make this a page-turning read. And Woodhaven really fleshes out realistic backstory on both characters which she reveals in stages. Makes some of Victoria and Jeff's actions totally understandable even if they are still infuriating. There's enough plot twists to steal a reader's breath away with alarming frequency and I loved that the author surprised me in unexpected ways. I'd be certain something was a bad idea -- and it was, but not for the reason I thought. My head is still spinning over this cleverly pieced together suspense.
In spite of some editorial misses [for example, "Where were there physical locations?" (p. 133)] and a few moments of rolling my eyes (for example, she cries and he feels her tears on his chest, ostensibly through his clothing), this is a solid debut novel in the genre.
(Note: I am aware that technically the aforementioned sentence could be correct in context. Rephrased it would be something akin to: "There were physical locations [located] where?," but if the reader has to pause... In context, simply omitting the sentence entirely (or changing it slightly) solves the problem. Really nit-picky, but it did slow me down!)
Heather Woodhaven has written a successfully breath stealing book. The action is riveting and the characters' reactions are great. I saw the good and bad of the characters and had an inkling of where the threat was but the author made the whole experience rewarding. The situations were very believable and the resolution was very satisfying. As a reader of suspense and romance it got my energy up and moving. I would recommend it to anyone who likes inspirational romance. It only took me a day to read it as it went fast and I didn't want to wait to find out how it ended. Good job Ms. Woodhaven.
"There is no lull in the action in this debut LIS tale. Victoria’s type-A, control-freak personality is relatable, and the “whodunit” question will keep you guessing" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars).
Think you can get away? Thought you were smarter than that. Return to office unless you’d like more of your life destroyed.
Victoria is an accountant that appears to have discovered a discrepancy in the books at Earth Generators. Collecting the evidence of what seems to be white-collar crime, she sets an appointment to present it to the FBI the next day. However, everything starts to go wrong. Fire in her home, a bomb in her car and her credentials no longer valid are just the beginning of the scramble to survive and present the evidence. Is there anyone she can trust besides her Newfoundland, Baloo?
This incredible debut novel will keep you guessing and hoping for a positive conclusion.A copy was received through BookFunnel and these thoughts were in no way solicited.
"Calculated Risk" is a Christian romantic suspense. The main characters were engaging and acted realistically. There was plenty of suspense from the danger they're in as they raced to save the remaining proof that they're not the ones stealing company money. Along the way, they got to know one another better and started to admire each other. They generally worked well together as a team. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable suspense.
This book opens with danger and flows with it to close to the end! Very unpredictable in key parts. I am new to Heather Woodhaven but I am now a fan! I look forward to reading more of her work!
This book's storyline was okay. I liked the action in this story. I liked the Christian ✝️ theme in this story. I liked Jeff's character. I liked Victoria's character. I liked the ending.
Talk about action-packed... Calculated Risk by Heather Woodhaven is full of action, suspense and excitement. Accountant Victoria Hayes suspects fraud at Earth Generators where she works. After a harrowing experience in which she barely escapes with her life Victoria visits her supervisor Jeff Tucker asking for his help. Together they face much danger while realizing they are falling in love with each other. I loved how bravely Victoia and Jeff faced the danger together. This is a super Romantic Suspense story which has been updated from an earlier version of the story.
I was really excited when I noticed that there are a bunch of Heather Woodhaven books on Kindle Unlimited Her #suspense books definitely keep me guessing! Her main character his face all sorts of risks already. Including skydiving. (I don't think that's really a spoiler since it's on the cover. 🤣)
I found out this was her debut novel. This surprised me as the book was so well-written.
It was alright. I found the whole "will they won't they" aspect quite tedious and it got old fast. The action was pretty good though! It's just the romance part fell flat and the parts that were not action-packed were very dull.
I enjoyed this fast-paced story. The characters were very likeable and the story interesting. Although I doubt that in real life this story is realistic, it was still a fun read.
Enjoyed this book so much! I loved the mystery and the romance of course but most of the Love for God and growing faith of the characters between the pages.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is a great clean romantic suspense story. Not the same old plot as in every other book out there. This was my first time reading a book from this author but it definitely won’t be my last.
