***This is the fifth book in the Gallows series of novels - the following description contains spoilers***
Twin demon trackers Sarah and Shaun Gallows are used to taking out supernatural threats...
Sarah is determined to take on powerful vampire Red Carling, even if she has to work with his crazy daughter Melissa to get the job done. Together they set off to seek out the witch who made him, heading into White Oak's one and only vampire brothel.
Shaun spends time with Teri to find out what his purpose is as the Seelie Knight. He lets slip that Roman is missing and the pressure is then on to find the Darklands fairy, heightening when Teri demands her necklace back in an attempt to find her ex-boyfriend herself. To top off his growing list of problems, his sister expects him to work with Ben to take out Red Carling's vampires.
When Flicky accidentally summons a demon while trying to help Sarah's best friend Dev, her confidence is shattered and her nerves shot. The twins need her magic for the big fight but she's not so sure she's up to the task.
Sarah knows it isn't going to be easy but she also knows they all need to work together to get through this. It's time for the most powerful vampire in town to eat stake.
I'm the twisted mind behind The Gallows Novels and the After Death Series. If you want to know a bit about me, here it is: I spend too much time indoors and probably watch too many horror films. Some of my favourite things are; Alone time, people who know when to shut up, having a drink, eating pizza (usually after having too much drink the night before), reading books, adult swim cartoons, bad horror and sci-fi movies, proper good TV shows like Dexter & The Walking Dead, and last but not least having a laugh with my hilarious other half - this would usually include some of the above.
Sharon Stevenson writes like she has ADD! And I absolutely love it! Of course I better enjoy that style because I write in a very similar fashion. Though I don't write anything nearly as creative and supernatural as The Gallows Twins series. I really enjoy the way Stevenson moves the story forward by bouncing from character to character in short, well paced chapters because there is just no way to be bored. She hooks you in with each chapter and leaves you wanting more at the end, just before she throws you in a different direction and that's just great fun. This is the fifth book in the series and it finds the Gallows Twins going up against one of the arch enemies, the terrifying vampire Red Carling. Back for the action are their human friends Dev and Ray, the fun witch Flicky, the damaged tracker Melissa Carling, the strange creature Ben, the mind readier Teri, and many of the other characters that have populated all the other novels in the series. Each character in the story that started with Blood Bound has been introduced, expanded, and built upon through each book which gives those characters personality, history, and an emotional depth that you just can't achieve in a single novel. That's why i like to write in a series, that's why I enjoy reading books in a series, and that's why I love this series, because I've grown to know the characters, I've watched them survive their ordeals, and I actually care about what happens to them. This book starts with a bang, it hooks you in, it's drives you to it's climax, then it surprises you in the aftermath, and leaves you desperate for the next book, especially after reading the first chapter, which left my jaw on the ground. And that is great writing. I couldn't recommend this book and this series any higher, once you start it, you won't stop.
The Gallows books honestly get better with each one. I like the added interaction with Flicky. She became a major player in the last book and that role really came forward more in this installment. She's in a precarious situation throughout and I'm sure it will thicken in the next. I enjoyed the softer sides of Melissa, Ben and Dev too. It really made them more human. The reappearance of a big bad from way back is sure to bring excitement in the next book. I really wish Shaun would find his other half and get over his sulking though. Liam is a piece of work and I'm waiting to see what mischief he's going to cause. This is an excellent series and worth reading. I can't wait to dive into the next book. I volunteered to read this book.
I am officially addicted to the series and the twins. This is number 5 in the Gallows series. A couple of characters with their own type of interaction with the twins which kept me guessing what their motives were. A couple of unexpected twists to keep the reader engaged. Now to dive into #6 Spirit Splintered
This series just keeps getting better and better! There is never a dull moment in the lives of the Gallows twins. I was honored to receive this book from Sharon herself, as well as book six. I am diving right into the next book, because she has amazing cliff hangers that make you just have to go on and find out what is next.
I really love the Gallows' twins and can't wait to see how they handle the next terrible scenario they will face. I also want to know what happens to Ray and how that will play out. I don't want to reveal too much so I will just say go get this series now! :-)
Twins, Shaun and Sarah are as different as chalk and cheese, but both are demon trackers. Shaun is more of a loner and doesn't like his job, while Sarah jumps in with both feet and gets the job done, while still finding time for her friends. The story is told from their points of view which, in my opinion, gives more of an insight into their individual characters.
Demons, vampires, werewolves, witches and fairies... this series has them all!
The books are fast-paced, easy to read, and enjoyable. I originally bought book 1, but having read that, bought the box set 1-3 followed soon after by the second box set (books 4-6).
