Retired OSI Agent Maxine Decker is a combination of Indiana Jones and James Bond in her latest thriller, The Shield. As she investigates the whereabouts of a stolen artifact, one that is not of this world, she's plunged into a world of secrets by governments around the world. She's not even sure she can trust her own government, even with the President of the United States who asked for her assistance personally. On her mission she teams up with her ex-husband as they search for clues leading them to this artifact. On their journey, they discover the artifact is being used to destroy the US without ever firing a shot. As the clock winds down, will they discover the identity of those with the artifact. More importantly, can they stop them?
Each page is filled with action and suspense. A real page turner.

We meet OSI special agent Maxine Decker who was in the previous book THE BLADE. I read the Kindle version of THE BLADE prior to starting this one and thoroughly enjoyed it so when I began reading THE SHIELD it was one that I could not put down. Decker is asked to find an artifact that was taken from a facility. It is a fragment that was found at the crash site of the Roswell UFO siting that happened way back in 1947.
She finds out about a plot to use the data from that artifact to make some device called THE SHIELD. This could put some country ahead of the others if she doesn't find it. Then she turns from being the one who is searching for into the one being searched for when they think she is an international fugitive. This book made me
wonder what if something like that could be made. How it would really change the entire world. This book is all about the power and greed and what one will go through to keep it while being hunted. You must survive while searching and not get caught by those you are hunting for. She risked her life for her country. She finally uncovers clues which take her to the Sudan. She must obtain the stolen artifact before any enemies can get hold of it. This book is the latest thrilling book. Lots of action.

This book holds your interest with it's fast pace. I like the fact that the chapters are short since I read at night and always want to put the book down at the end of a chapter, but found myself going on and on as I was interested in what would happen next. This was the first book I read from these authors and look forward to reading more by them.

The premise of this story is terrifying if it could ever be true. Iran and Russia are scary enough without this weapon! The book was shorter than I expected--I was surprised when I turned the page and it was the conclusion. Fortunately it seems like the next in the series will pick up where this left off.

I'm biased, because Joe and Lynn are friends and I'm actually a character in the book, but the premise of this book totally rocks. My primary complaint is that it wasn't long enough. Very enjoyable.

A thriller?

Not quite in my estimation, then I am not to enthused with science fiction. Securing the killer to a tree and then just leaving him did not make sense, even with his later involvement
