A Mistletoe Affair

Rate this book

The Silk Sisters' longtime friends Janelle, Sandra and Vicki have turned their business savvy into a top-tier event agency. In the wealthy enclave of Wintersage, Massachusetts, there's an abundance of lavish parties, society drama and longing hearts to keep them busy.

Floral designer Vicki Ahlfors is a shy, hopeless romantic. The dutiful daughter of a banking dynasty, she has always done what was expected of her until she falls for her best friend's divorced brother.

Attorney turned political strategist Jordan Woolcott has always defined himself by his work. Now at a crossroads, Jordan's not sure who he is, other than a dad to his young son, Mason. It's a rewarding job, but being a single father is so much harder than he'd ever imagined.

Vicki has a magical touch when it comes to Mason, and her heart goes out to the overwhelmed Jordan. As feelings grow tender, will an explosive political scandal end their dream of forever before it even begins?

Merry Christmas Eve! This year is looking a little different. Books have saved me this year. During this Christmas season, I wanted to read about a holiday celebration that I do not celebrate but want to learn more about, so I found A Mistletoe Affair by Farrah Rochon! Janelle, Sandra, and Vicki are best friends who are building an event business together. Vicki is an extremely talented florist. As they are getting ready for Kwanzaa celebrations, Vicki is informed that she gets to design her own float for the local parade. Her family is less than supportive, but there is one person that she didn’t expect to be there for her…Jordan Woolcott. She has had a crush on him since she was fifteen. Now he is a single father to a toddler and quite the workaholic–he is in the midst of a political scandal. They don’t realize how much that they both need love and support in their lives…and the holiday season is just the season to bring them together!

This is probably my favorite holiday book this season! While the Kwanzaa celebrations were not the highlight of the book, I did love learning a little more about it. But the LOVE! This love story is just heartwarming. I love seeing Black love and joy shine so brightly! The characters are diverse, hilarious, loving, and successful. I love the friendship between Janelle, Vicki, and Sandra. They are there for each other through the thick and thin, even when their families are battling each other politically. Vicki and Jordan are the perfect match. I love how the author balances Jordan’s priorities. His son is first and foremost and also acknowledges that love is important for him as well. Vicki never questions Jordan’s priorities. She is there to support him and his son.

I loved watching these relationships blossom and I definitely intend to read the rest of the series! I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars!

I find a lot of comfort in Farrah Rochon's romances. Her protagonists tend to genuinely like and respect each other, and their attraction to each other builds upon that rather than act as the prime motivator for them spending time together--but Rochon does this without sacrificing sexiness. I also like how she uses familiar tropes but instead of simply employing them as romance shorthand (like, in this book, shy and overlooked Vicki gets a chic makeover, and suddenly everyone, including Jordan, notices her), Rochon pays patient attention to developing them to make them fit her characters and their arcs (Vicki's makeover was an externalization of her commitment to taking care of herself first, of being brave, and that commitment and her further externalizations of it propel most of the plot). And I liked both protagonists and their arcs equally; Jordan struggling with doubting himself--professionally and in his attraction to Vicki--was well-depicted.

Anyway, I was still in the first chapter of the book when I went, "I like this so much, she always does the best character development, why did I wait two months to read it, doesn't she have a new book out, I should buy that right now." And I did.

Farrah Rochon's contribution to the "Wintersage Weddings" series was just in time for Christmas. What better way than to get you in the Christmas spirit than a good Christmas love story.
I have been NOT SO PATIENTLY waiting on Jordan and Vicki's story and it was well worth the wait. Little Mason is just as cute as can be. It took Jordan a while to see what was right in front of him all these years but his ex-wife left a bad taste in his mouth. With questions surrounding the results of the election, Jordan has to take the time out to find the real love that's right in front of him.
They picked the 3 perfect authors for this series and each story was great. Maybe we will get to read about Vicki's brothers and have more "Wintersage Weddings"!

A Mistletoe Affair is super cute! It's the kind of romance that'll have you giggling and kicking your feet. It's really gentle, the stakes aren't super high, it's just a lovely holiday read, whether you celebrate Christmas and Kwanzaa (both feature prominently here) or neither. Recommended!

Another home run by author Farrah Rochon. I really enjoy her books because they are so detailed and she makes you apart of her stories.

What is a girl to do when her two best friends are suddenly married? That is the dilemma that Vicki Ahlfors has found herself in. Her friends Janelle and Sandra have found the love of their lives, everyone always assumed it would be Vicki because she wanted the marriage and children. Little did anyone know except for two people was that Vicki had been in love with one man only since she was 15 years and his name is Jordan Woolcott. The problem was He was married to another woman but they have since divorced and now he is a single dad. A single dad with emotional baggage, and Vicki on the other hand has revamped herself by stepping completely out of her shell and now taking care of Vicki. She has made some significant changes in her life and at the top of her list, she is finally getting over Jordan or is she?

Jordan Woolcott, attorney extraordinaire, remarkable political strategist/analyst and single father. Jordan is fighting about an election he felt was robbed from his opponent, he believes there was poll tampering and has investigators working trying to uncover it. This has caused a strain between families and friends, he is also exhausted and trying to father little Mason who is under two years old. Vicki is his sister's best friend and comes to his rescue one day in offering to watch Mason while he gets some sleep. Mason loves Vicki and Jordan for the first time in all the years he has known her, takes a real look and likes what he sees (especially after seeing her at his sister's wedding). But because of his failed marriage and his need to protect Mason, he isn't sure he wants to take a chance. The problem is Vicki is burrowing her way into his heart and breaking down his defenses. Vicki will prove to Jordan that she is exactly who he needs and that she is exactly who Jordan needs.

What a wonderful story following these two, getting to know and watch them fall in love with each other. I was rooting for Vicki from the very beginning of the book and was rooting for Jordan too. Little Mason was the icing on the cake.

A Mistletoe Affair is the third installment in the Wintersage Weddings series and in this story, floral designer Vicki Ahlfors is the last of the best friends to find love. Vicki's love interest is none other than her best friend Sandra's brother, Jordan Woolcott. Vicki has been in love with Jordan since high school but he has never shown an interest until Vicki goes through a makeover that knocks the single father off his game. Vicki offers to help Jordan with his young son and the two embark on a journey of discovery to love and happiness. Jordan has to learn how to trust again and allow Vicki the chance to love him or risk a life of unhappiness. Will Vicki be able to break through Jordan's barriers? Readers will need to check out A Mistletoe Affair to find out. This was an enjoyable read.

Ms. Rochon did a good job with character development in that readers will get a backdrop to why Jordan is leery of entering into a relationship after his marriage. Vicki is battling her feelings for Jordan and feels she can repress her feelings by having a makeover and entering the dating scene to get over Jordan. At the same time she is fighting to prove to her father that her business was not a hobby but a thriving vision that is needed. Readers will pick up on the attraction between Jordan and Vicki and will root for the couple to get their happy ever after. Overall this was an enjoyable read.

Vicki and Jordan had a bit more to deal with than the other two couples, but their story was a good one. The issues Jordan was facing as a single dad were realistically portrayed, IMO, but his obsession with the outcome of the election was a little over the top. I'm guessing, however, that that intensity is what made him overlook Vicki so long, in the first place.

Nice to see Vicki come into her own and out of the shadows of Janelle and Sandra, and also her family. I'm especially glad to see she got her man!

A Mistletoe Affair (Wintersage Series Book 2)

Vicki, Janelle and Sandra have been friends since high school. Vicki has had a crush on Sandra's brother Jordan Woolcott for years, the thing is, he's never shown any interest in Vicki. She volunteers to watch baby Mason so Jordan can get some rest one evening, and things take off from there. It seems as if everyone else knew Vicki had eyes for Jordan except Jordan. When they finally realize they love each other, it's a winning situation for Jordan Vicki and Mason. This was a really good read. Read: December 2015

Couldn't put this one down either. Read this in one day. Vicki and Jordan's story was one of great joy and hot passion. Vicki reminds me of myself with always putting others first and trying to satisfy and keep everybody else happy. I loved the fact that she made herself over and started putting Vicki first and to see her and Jordan's love blossom was awesome. I loved this story! The Wintersage Wedding Series were great reads and I'd highly suggest them to anyone.

A perfect ending to the Winter Sage Weddings trilogy Three life long friends who have been called the "Silk sisters" since high school. Each looking for love and wanting to be successful in their own right.Farrah brought the tree stories together with characters from book one and two while keeping Vicki and Jordan in the fore front.

Enjoyed this story of Vicki Ahlfors and Jordan Wolcott. Vicki has had a major crush on Jordan for years. Jordan was unaware of her feelings and thought of her as his sisters friend, until one day he sees her in a different light.

DNF

Single fathers are just as capable as single mothers. They just need to TRY. They do not require extraordinary amounts of our compassion. At least, no more than single mothers deserve. This guy has everyone dancing attendance on him. Plus, at 18 months that child would be much more verbal and way less like a baby.

I had an 18 month old. On my own. With my parents help, but still. I would not have needed it if I had this guy's money. Oh but his nanny had to leave so CRISIS. The man has to look after his own toddler.

My niece is raising a baby and a toddler and doing GREAT. This sympathy and admiration men get every time they have to do a modicum of domestic labour is infuriating.

If you change your hair and wear tighter clothes, and then all the men that previously ignored you flock around, leave. Get out. They are objectifying you. THAT IS NOT ROMANTIC. This poor poor man "suddenly" notices her after a DECADE??? Because she looks more "feminine"? *metaphorically throws the e-book across the room*

I'm so disappointed in this book.

Vickie Ahlfors has a up and coming florist business. All her life she has been the wallflower. But she has made a promise to change all of that and be true to herself.
Jordon Woollcott, is an successful lawyer and has worked as a political strategist. He is currently a single father and trying to find answers to possible campaign tampering.

Vickie has always had a crush on Jordon, since he is the big brother to one of her best friends. When he is a little overwhelmed, he finally notices Vickie.

Cute story, kept you interested. Good character development.

I like Farrah Rochon a lot, but I was disappointed in this book. I ended up skimming the second half of the book.

The only reason that the hero liked the heroine was because she was good with his kid and he was overwhelmed. There was nothing else there.

Some of the conflict was forced and then blew over pretty quickly, so I wasn't sure why it was included at all.

I did enjoy learning more about Kwanzaa.

Black love, single dad, Black women owning small businesses, Christmas, and Kwanzaa...YES PLEASE! I really liked this charming and steamy story - except for the weird political/election thread throughout. This is a speedy read and obviously perfect for this time of year.

P.S. if there is a coastal town in Massachusetts with several prominent Black families - with eligible sons - I would like to go there!

Christmas themed romances are some of my favorites! I always have to get in at least one during the holiday season. Farrah Rochon did not disappoint in this one either! A successful business woman finds love in an unexpected place. I love how Farrah makes sure none of her characters have to sacrifice their dreams or goals for love. She let's them have it all & I love that!

A Mistletoe Affair is a sweet, well-written romance for the holidays. Perhaps in deference to the fact that we all have plenty of conflict during the holidays as it is, this novel is almost totally conflict free (at least between the hero and heroine). This makes for a pleasant but somewhat bland read.

I enjoyed the role reversal in which the father is the one to discuss spending less time chasing career advancement and more time at home – it’s a character arc that we often get with female characters but less often with male characters.

As is often the case in romance, the book has a lot of wish fulfillment and not a lot of gritty realism. For starters, both of these people have way more time on their hands than is realistic for two people with careers, one of whom is a single dad. For crying out loud, Vicki wants to enter a float in a parade that is happening in a matter of days – how is she not working around the clock? Can you really make big money as a florist? Why is Jordan so harried that he needs Vicki to babysit just so he can nap, but as soon as he gets a shot at romance, his parents are happy to babysit for entire weekends? Why does no one feel bad for this kid, whose nanny (who takes care of him full-time) is on vacation (thus setting up the “Jordan is harried” plotline)? Do they think there’s no emotional bond between the baby and the nanny?

This may not be a classic book for the ages, but as a quick read between wrapping presents, it’s like a nice cup of excellent, soothing cocoa.

A Mistletoe Affair (Wintersage Weddings) by Farrah Rochon

The third and final book of the Wintersage Weddings series, A Mistletoe Affair is a feel-good romance story that values the importance of family and listening to your heart. Vicki Ahlfors is a florist, running her own small business as part of the Silk Sisters. She’s pretty much given up on ever finding love after her two best friends snagged husbands and are living happy lives. But then she meets and reunites her high school crush, Jordan Woolcott, after so many years, and the sparks fly.

I loved the developing relationship between Jordan and Vicki. I thought they were the perfect couple. Jordan is a single father who had just got out of a bad marriage, so he was slow to love and trust again. But having Vicki in his life again changed all that.

This was an invigorating feel-good story that left me warm inside. It had the sweetest ending and was the perfect conclusion to the Wintersage Weddings series. It’s the perfect read for the holidays, or any time of year.
