Evan and Jason along with Peggy and Judith have made it to the homestead in Tennessee. For the sake of the community the households have banded together to form The Guardians. With no one knowing who the members are The Guardians deal out vigilante justice on those that would seek to take, destroy, or murder. Unbeknownst to Judith her sons are still alive and trying to find one another.

Bird’s second novel in The New Homefront series, The Guardians, continues the story of Evan and Jason and their lives now that they have settled into their bugout location. It also shows what is happening across the nation. The stark contrast as to what was and what is now is a new harsh reality not many will survive.

This is a well-rounded series about the post-apocalyptic USA and possible scenarios of what could ultimately happen.

5 out of 5 stars.

Another hit!

This has been an amazing book to read. Once again Steve has enthralled the reader into his story. The son's trip to their new home is great. Fast paced as I've come to expect from Mr. Bird. Looking forward to the next installment.

Plot one are characters and story continued from book one "The Last Layover". Evan and Jason, pilot and first officer, continue their journey home facing the unexpected.
Plot two is Nate searching for his brother Luke. Nate wants to continue his journey to Virginia to reunite with his parents, but doesn't want to go on without his brother. His brother was a med student who volunteered with the Texas militia when the SHTF. With the government and law & order non-existent the southern border is wide open (it is anyway isn't it?). The cartels are moving north and their brand of governing is quite effective. Nate becomes involved with the militia and the fight against the cartels. Nate and Luke are eventually reunited and although initially set on different paths they did agree on the important things. The homestead/community gets larger as individual homes and farms are brought together. Good story with wonderful characters. As pointed out by the author; some of the worst conspiracy theories made into reality. There are at least two more books to this series. I look forward to listening to them.

Mental Training

The greatest weapon a person can have is a sharp mind. The author does a great job of giving some advice and practical application of survival on a homestead in a SHTF scenario and couples that with believable characters, moments of real emotion, and a heck of an ability to tell a story. I lived this story, page by page, moment by moment right alongside the main characters. Some of the issues were difficult to read about when you consider it could happen in real life to real people that you care about, but we're handled delicately and with just the right amount of sensitivity. Oh man, what an adventure!

A great volume 2

In this, the second volume in The New Home front series, we meet new characters and travel with Nate and Luke, two brothers, along with Rachel, as they try to reach East Tennessee. Having found information that their mom is looking for her son's vision ham radio contact Nate is determined he will reach their mom no matter what it takes. Packed with surprises and lot's of action, you will enjoy this sequel to The Last Layover.
As usual, happy reading and be prepared by getting prepared.
