Outraged is a book exposing all forms of abuse in local churches and in Christian homes, asks the question as to why these abuses are common in the Independent Baptist movement and responds with what can be done to help prevent them.
Written from one of their own, Outraged is a book that’s way overdue and covers issues relevant to these topics.
Prepare to be shocked, prepare to be grieved, prepare to be provoked to thought. It’s time to recognise the atrocities being done to church members by those they trust. Men that sacrifice the well-being of others on their altars of perversion!
Includes exclusive interviews! Names of abusers! Cover-Ups! Rapist Husbands! Perverted Youth Pastors! Malicious Men of God!
While many leaders in local churches are sincere men of high moral character, the fact is that a larger percentage than we think are guilty of crimes against children and other adults including their spouses.
Outraged also covers the sin of emotional abuse and neglect that is rampant in IFB circles and gives the truth about if this abuse is biblical justification for divorce.
Also includes groundbreaking insight into two characteristics of the IFB movement that allow an open door for abuse to occur in both the local church and the home.
I made it half way through and DNF. I'll have to try to pick this book up again at a later point in time and I will explain why.
The description of this book is misleading. You believe you are purchasing a book about the corruption within churches, particularly the IFB. And while the author does discuss this topic , the book thus far reads like 1 big sermon. The author does not make it clear in the book description that he still adhears to conservative Christian beliefs and deep rooted religious teachings. He does not make it clear that he will be promoting this to his readers. This makes the introduction quite a shock and rather triggering and traumatizing to those those of us deconstructing from toxic religion and spiritual abuse.
I've been away from the Independent Fundamental Baptist cult for nearly a year now, and this book threw me into a whirlwind of upset, because this author seems to still deeply align with the basic foundation of the IFB. He calls out those who are offenders, yet promotes the reconciling of offenders within the church!! He recommends that people who have been spiritually abused by the church or the Bible find healing through the same avenues. I won't go I to depth on his relationship advice. And yes, there's pretty much an entire chapter sermon on it.
All in all, this book calls out some of the corruption within the IFB, while still clinging to the teachings that created the hazardous toxicity.
If you have not FULLY deconstructed, please stay away from this book for now.
I feel like I could go on, but you'll have to wait until I get the stomach to finish this book and complete the review.
Despite possible censorship from his IB brothers, James kindly and honestly lays out the facts and gives example after example of what results when entitled men twist God's word into weapons. Hundred and hundreds of cases are out there where abusers and paedophiles are protected by pastors, especially in Independent Fundamental Baptist churches. James also gives a Biblical basis for his assessment of the source of this problem and what can be done about it.
This book is easy to read and understand, and I believe everyone needs to grow in knowledge of this endemic problem in our churches. . . to be outraged, then do something about it.
