Second Empire is a CG graphic novel with the Daleks from Doctor Who as protagonists. It follows General Xenol of the First Conquest Army, who comes to realize that the supreme ruler of the Dalek Empire - the Golden Emperor - is leading the Dalek race into an evolutionary dead-end. With the help of fellow free-thinker Yttral he decides that the Golden Emperor must be removed from the throne. And thus begins the first great civil war of the Dalek Empire.
The continuity of Second Empire is based both on the television series and on "The Dalek Chronicles", an officially-licensed comic strip that appeared in the TV Century 21 comics magazine between 1965 and 1967.
A lengthy and high-quality fan-work that blends together a lot of neat official continuity about the Daleks with the author's own take on the race. All of the characters in this story are Daleks, which would normally seem like a difficult base from which to do effective characterization. But Mechmaster manages it, creating a great set of characters that are easy to get caught up in empathizing with.
There's also a lot of humor woven into the background of the genuinely gripping primary plot, with tons of callouts and references to other media and little jokes set up and played out over the course of hundreds of pages. You don't have to be intimately familiar with all of the obscure Doctor Who Dalek canon to enjoy this work, but if you are you'll catch lots of cute details that might be otherwise meaningless.
