“People are like stained - glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.” - Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
Life is dark for Steph.
After swearing never to be her own worst enemy again, she’s forced to battle her demons once more as events in her life push her to the absolute limits of self-preservation.
And she needs to do it alone.
Pete is back in the place he swore never to return to, all in the name of protecting Steph from the dangers of his past. But are yesterday’s ghosts the only threat they face?
When true intentions are laid bare, can Steph find the fight within to pull herself out of the darkness? Can Pete close the last doors on his past, or will he realize what is truly important, too late?
Their history may shape the people they are today – but nobody said it had to define their future…
Born and raised in Canterbury, New Zealand, Max now resides with her family in beautiful and sunny Queensland, Australia. Life with two young children can be hectic at times and, although she may not write as often as she would like, Max wouldn’t change a thing.
An avid lover of stories from a young age, she enjoys nothing more than to get lost in the pages while the characters dictate what direction she takes. Her favourite genre to write is new adult and the events in her stories may or may not be related to real life experiences (only she will ever know for sure).
In her down time, Max can be found at her local gym brainstorming through a session with the weights. If not, she’s probably out drooling over one of many classic cars on show that she wishes she owned.
Once I got about half way through this story I couldn't put it down. Pistol is by far a amazing character. He's hott, sexy, and totally a badass. The way he handles everything that comes his way damn. He really gets the crap end of things. Trevor that man can come take me away any day. Bult like a fort truck and the sexy as hell accent I bet the ladies fall head over heals for him I really hope he gets his own story that would be amazing. Steph also known as Cutie I really didn't like her, I feel like she's a weak characters always feeling sorry for herself that is until she takes charge this time around and talks things over and well other things (don't want to give a spoiler). She really breaks out this time around. The events that take place in this story are wow great. The attention to details is super amazing and every single word that was written was magnificent. I would recommend this story to anyone just read the series in order. MUST READ

This is the third instalment in a dark gritty read that covers real life events with a realism that leaves your mouth dry and your heart racing. I love the dark hidden places of Steph's soul that we explore and the journey she embarks on to fight to free herself of her demons that shaped the person she has become.
As for Pistol...I'd volunteer to be Pistol Whipped anytime ;) he too is a tortured soul that needs to sort his sh*t out before feeling worthy of her love. He has to complete the full circle dealing with his past before he can hope to have a future.
They are two pieces of a broken whole that shouldn't work...but really do. Both have been betrayed and broken by those that should have nurtured and loved them. They have had to do things they are not proud of and yet they have found peace with each other. This is a fantastic read if you like something a little darker. Well written and full of drama I loved every word!
Five explosive stars and a perfect ending to their story.
This book is the third installment and picks up where we left these characters in book 2. I love that Max Henry writes stories that are gritty and raw. No fairytales here. Emotional and addictive this series will have you on the edge of your seat. A fantastic series and I definitely recommend it!!!
This book is a little out there...lol Pete just wants to settle the score with his mother and father for the shitty upbringing he had. He flys back home to finally put things to right. He finds out that the man that raised him isn't actually his father but his fathers brother. An inheritance he didn't know about has put a contract out on his life. Pete turns the tables and takes out his threats. I was a little surprised but not quite and the violence he had towards women. He didn't hesitate to knock his mom around and slap his ex. As for Steph she is wack a doodle...lol When Ivan almost raped her the first time and she was so passive about it, like okay just don't hurt me??????? Luckily she gets away but when he tries again she almost resigns herself to just accepting her fate. A turn of events makes you wonder how stable she really is and when things are discovered they act like its just another mess to clean up and move on. It's never really discussed what happened and how she could live in her apt afterward. To many things left unanswered. Don't get me wrong a kind of sick delight but definitely unanswered questions.
This life never lets you go boy. I know what ya want to do, and let me tell you now--killin' us all won't stop the dark blood that runs through ya veins.
NADBB is a Max Henry fan, so we were honored for the chance to review this book.

REVIEW: The Good: Max has a way of creating character's that have so much backstory that you can't help be drawn in. Also, if you've read the series, it picks up where the other book leaves off and it's like visiting old friends... old, twisted, sexy and appealing friends that is...
The Bad: Max Henry's books aren't for everyone. There's dark, and gritty and punch to the gut. They're good. They show flaws in characters. I happen to like that. It is a series read so you need to read the other two and you should. They're worth your time and then some.
The Rating 4.5 We've been a groupie and this latest offering just cemented that.
I received an arc copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review... well Max Henry you are a miracle worker!!!
Recoil is book 3 in the Banjaxed series & leaves off straight where Loaded (book 2) left us.... at the airport saying bye to Pete & Trevor whilst they deal with things in Ireland & Steph deals with her past in Australia all alone.
Things for Pete & Trevor go well, except for a few bumps, whilst there in Ireland... Pete comes to a mjor decision for when he gets home... Meanwhile Steph has to deal with Ivan (who would hav thought I'd hate the guy in book 1), a funeral & her own insecurities... I wont let too much out for you, you'll have to read it to find out the juicy details & let me tell you Max didn't leave them out at all, we even had some long distance sexting.....
Life isn't all roses & sunshine, so why do we expect our books to be??? I want gritty, I want real, I want hot, I want ink, lets not forget that accent... Anyway Recoil is hot, hard, intense, gritty & real all rolled into one tight novel that completes this trilogy. I must say it does leave me with questions though... mainly about Trevor, Marcus & Carla (HINT, HINT here Max).... But I'msure Max will help me out with that, one day, in the future :P
This picks up straight after Loaded. We start in the airport where Steph has just seen Trevor and Pete on their way and she is left behind to worry about whether she will ever see him again. The story is told by both Pete and Steph so we get to keep track of what they are doing and how they are coping. I must say that Max Henry is really good at sexting. Good enough to get the motors running ;). Anyway back to the story, whilst Pete is in Ireland Steph is home and has to face her fears all alone, and being alone like that for Steph, is never a good option. Pete has things he needs to deal with in Ireland but gets them sorted out as quick as he can to get back to Steph. We get to see more of Trevor in this book and I think I started falling in love with him too so I hope that there will be his story in the pipeline not to mention Marcus. I would love to hear more of Marcus and his continuing friendship with Steph. Please Max? LOVED this series.
Recoil picks up right where we left off, with Pete leaving for Ireland with Trevor in an attempt to right the wrongs of his fractured past and to secure peace for his and Steph's future. Steph is left alone at home to deal with Ivan, struggling to survive emotionally and mentally without Pete's support.
Recoil was at times dark and gritty, sexy and even humorous, Henry blending a wide range of angst ridden scenes to draw out an emotional response from the reader.
Henry left feeling sated and happy, after enduring so much in their lives both together and apart, Pete and Steph finally have a chance finding some sense of normalcy, she made me believe in happily ever afters, in redemption, in second chances, in finding that person that helps you fight the darkness and accepts and loves you even when you feel nothing but flawed.
Recoil is book 3 in the Banjaxed Series, and immediately pickes up at the airport saying good bye to Trevor and Pete, and Steph is left to her own dealing with things in Australia. There are some major decisions that are made and funerals and insecurities to get through, but I won’t tell you what because you need to read the book to find out.
This series was new to me. Infact Max was knew to me. And these books are NOT for everyone. It is dark and gritty with lots of juicy details, not to be missed. If you love these type of books then make sure you pick up Max Henry. The stories are woven like no other, and completely amazing!
Pistol became Pete and Steph because comfortable in her own skin. They were made for each other. Steph can be herself and have Pete help her through her bad days. Steph is about to see past Pistol and see Pete. There is no pretending with these two. Ivan got what he hard coming to him. I was happy that Pete got the closure he needed and that he had his friend beside him the whole time.
If you love phone sex, love, real relationship issues, and a sense of belonging, this is the book to read. I am just sad to see it end.
We start of as Steph leaves Pistol and Trevor at the airport as they on their trip to Ireland, and she worries that she'll never see him again, that he'll never want to come back. While alone Steph is pestered with unwanted old friends. Pete's business in Ireland gets intense but try's to finish it as fast as possible so he can back to Steph. They start texting which get really hot and makes Pete work even faster to get his job done.
A great conclusion, I really enjoyed this intense series, every book was a page turner and would highly recommend it. 5/5.
I read the whole series in one go and it's left me utterly confused and shocked!! I don't think I read the last book because I wanted to but because I had too!! I honestly can't say if I enjoyed it at all and the heroine was bad shit crazy and utterly pathetic! I got lost so many times with her I was dizzy!! I definitely won't be re-reading this!! X
This is one of my favorite series of all times. It's dark and twisted but it's also a wonderful love story. These characters are deep and complex. I love that. You can't help but fall in love with Pete and Stephen...hell Trevor too. A must read from Max Henry.
Another fab instalment in this series. Pistol and Steph have such amazing chemistry that these books are a pleasure to read and just make you keep turning the pages
