1 Why do I keep doing this to myself Stars!

*Spoilers below*

I am about to rant my ass off. Just a heads up!

 photo 5cf0a238880cf93e6eea80adb9ac07e3.jpg_zpsfgfiw7mw.gif

Did I just pay 14.99 to feel like a idiot? Really why do I keep doing this to myself? I have read every book in the Dark Hunter Series, so what 24 books, not counting the novellas I have read. The last few book have gotten more and more over the top and confusing. I feel like I need a Masters Degree in Mythology just to read these books anymore. This is me trying to keep up with all the pantheons, characters, bad guys, and mystical artifacts .....

 photo whiteboard_zpskjo73vuy.jpg

By the time I am done reading I'm like this....

 photo B7RfpvY_zpshxagknou.png

The last book Son of No One was so confusing , but this one was so much worse. I can't even tell you how many times I was confused reading this. I could have been reading a manual on how to build a engine and understood it better. I couldn't tell you what the hell this book was about to save your life. I have no clue what the point of the plot is other than ......

 photo tumblr_mlfc28fVtD1rn1etgo1_400_zps7g1cjnqv.jpg

Who has what powers, who answers to who, which bad guy is coming for whatever group of people. The plot is so over the top, complex, and confusing that it isn't fun to read this series anymore, it's work.

 photo kz1v7_zps9y2ntcu2.jpg

I feel like I am in school again. With Son of No One I skimmed over all of the pantheon confusing crap and just read the parts with the love story, but Dragonbane didn't really have much of a love story. And what little bit of a love story was in this book wasn't good. The heroine was a bitch. I hated her so much. Max and Seraphina have been Mates for 100s of years, but Max left her because Seraphina is a bitch like I already mentioned. The 3 years they lived together as mates she abused, and disrespected him, allowed her queen and all of her Amazon tribe to inspect him naked, groping and humiliating him. She allowed her whole tribe to abuse him, leave him out, make fun of him, and treat him like trash, and call him a animal. Then at her queen's request she betrays him pretending like she is going to kiss him, but instead collars him like a animal in a collar that zaps all his powers leaving him helpless and lets her queen and the whole tribe beat him nearly to death. Then he leaves her. Oh and lets not forget she was pregnant with his twins and she didn't bother to tell him. Keeping his kids from him! He has grown up kids that he never got to see grow up.

“I told you when we mated that I would gladly give you my heart, my life, and my love, but that when I did so they came with one condition. Never abuse me. Love is not abuse. And you have harmed me for the last time, my lady. I am done with you. Forever.” Then he had closed his eyes and refused to look at her.- Max

 photo jade_zpswhcfn454.gif

Then the reason she is back is because her queen is holding her children and says she is going kill them unless Seraphina brings Max to her so she can kill him and have his heart. But I am suppose to believe that she is all of a sudden having a change of heart and now she wants him back. Are you fuckin kidding me???

 photo nvwSZ4O_zpsworwhbc3.gif

Now she feels bad? What the hell ever! And OMG he takes her back!!!!! Really?? At that point I was just done. I hated their bs abusive relationship. She should get no new chances. Hell I have no clue how any of that could be called love. When did he fall for her when she was hating him because he was born Dragon, when she was treating him like a shitty slave, when she was allowing everyone to abuse him. So much to love there.

Because of OCD and the the fact that the compulsion to finish a series once I start it is so strong it eats at me until I wanna rip my hair out I keep pick up this series hoping to see it through to the end, but it is evident to me that Sherrilyn Kenyon plans on

 photo 15059643_zpsi1obvwyj.gif

I don't know if I will pick up the next book in this series. I started out loving this series so much and now I am just so damn disappointed that I don't know what to think. I do know this much, I will not buy the next book if I do read it. I will get it from the library. I will not spend another 15 dollars to drive my self crazy.

4 You Really Can't Fail Completely With SK Stars

What can I possibly say about Sherrilyn Kenyon that I haven't already said in the previous 23 DH books? SK is one of my favorite authors and her stories always manage to combine humor, originality, drama and witty dialongs in an alsmost addictive way.

This book was no exception. Both Seraphina and Max were prime examples of what SK can do with her characters and the fact that they weren't the one I wanted to read about didn't take anything out of them. Both were intelligent and strong, with a core of steel and an iron will. Both made mistakes and actually owned up to them. Both had been hurt in the past but managed to overcome their differences and create something together. Although, to be perfectly honest, Seraphina was a world-class bitch and I have no idea how Max actually forgave the shit she put him through. And of course there was the usual "species most hated for a mate" storyline that PNR authors seem to love so much and that really never gets old.

But, I have said it before and it has to be said again, however much I love this series, however much I enjoy seeing old characters that I have become attached to, however much I enjoy SK's writing style, there are things that have gotten out of hand. The characters have become to many, the story too complicated, the info too much to actually process. I have trouble remembering who and what everyone is, who their enemies and friends are, what pantheons they belong to, who the bad guys and the good ones are(especially since that changes with every book). As much as I love it, this series can't go on forever.

Still there are some books that I just HAVE TO HAVE. Apollymi's and Savitar's top that list. But if SK continues to introduce new characters and storylines, I just don't know if I can keep up. I even thought of re-reading but there are so damn many books!!

*********************************************************

Max? Really?

I was hoping for Savitar, or Urian, or Thorn after the last book. I can say with all honesty that Max was the last on my wishlist.

Still... Since SK doesn't seem to have any intention of finishing this series anytime this century, Max will do for now.

Max (Katagaria Drakos) and Seraphina (Arcadian Dragon and Amazon)

I told you when we mated that I would gladly give you my heart, my life, and my love, but that when I did so they came with one condition. Never abuse me. Love is not abuse. And you have harmed me for the last time, my lady. I am done with you. Forever.

Hmm...I understand that Amazons are supposed to be tough bitches, but honestly sometimes this is too much! I think Seraphina was too easily forgiven. She humiliated Max. She treated him like a lesser being. She denied the fact that he was an Alpha male and a fierce dragon. And poor Max accepted anything from her because he was in love and she was his mate.
But when he tried to explain and she didn't let him, but instead she just gave up on him and left him to her sisters to torture him....oh God... I had enough!

Apparently Max did not have enough. So fast forward we transfer to nowadays where Seraphina tries to talk to Max and let him know that they have 2 children and Max obviously did not know their existance. These children are now in danger and their father needs to help.
At least the children are nice.
On the other hand, I don't think I liked Seraphina at all in this story.
Max is nice and as scary as a dragon should be, but I wanted to smack his head for taking Seraphina back.

“Please don’t leave me, Max. I don’t want to live without you. I love you… I’ve only ever loved you, my dragon lord.”

Okay okay they love each other, I get it...

I guess after writing 41 books in a series it’s possible that one may become a bit tired of keeping up with a complex world filled with even more varied and complex characters. And even when I tell myself that I am done with the

Dark Hunter Series by Sherrilyn Kenyon, I just keep going back….just hoping that this may be a SHINY one!!! Maybe it’s another epic like Acheron or Styxx!!!!

Sadly, Dragonbane, the latest entry into the glorious DH’s world is not a shiny one…not even close!!!! Talk about disappointment!!!!

So, this being the 9th book in the WereHunter Series…7th book in the Hell-Chaser Series and 24th in the Dark Hunter Series……yes, remember there’s all those Dream Hunter, Hell-Chasers, and a couple more….confusing ….. that’s putting it mildly….and let me just add that the confusion continues throughout this book.

Anyway, let’s start with one or two things I liked, hence the 2 star rating:

Even a quick sneak of Acheron & Styxx and Savitar was a bonus

Sanctuary and all those Katallakis werewolves….Vane, Fang…Aimee…and all the new little cub/puppies….awesome

Okay – what I just didn’t feel……

There are so many characters and so much going on that I couldn’t keep up….going from present to backstory was just too complicated for me……I was stumbling around in the dark trying to find something that made sense to me.

Maxis Dragos aka Dragonbane…still don’t understand exactly who he actually is…allright, he’s a dragon born from an egg, never been loved, betrayed by the woman he loved, chased by enemies who want him dead….you know the usual alpha hero thinghie!!

Seraphina…now, she….I am even more confused!!! Is she an Amazon, a dragon, a what???? She seduced Max and then betrayed him and now comes back thousands of years later wanting him to help her!!!!! Is she possessed or what??? And what about Max..? He’s beyond possessed to even agree….get rid of the horrible witch!!!!!

Back and forward..we get to see them burn up the sheets….in the past, in the present…but for me…not exactly sexy or fabulous…..

And then….where the hell was Simi??????
 photo images_zpsn6jj3pfo.jpg

I cannot read a book without her!!!! You don't understand...I absolutely love, adore her......
Did she appear or not??? If she did…it must have been a very fast FLASH!!!! Because I can’t remember her at all….trying to keep up with all that was happening all at once…no doubt.

I am really sad to see how this series is going….the last few books have been such a huge disappointment.

But saying that….I am addicted to Dark Hunters and all those Greek gods/goddesses/were-wolves/mandrakes….what next I wonder!!

Read at your own peril!!!!!

Leave it to me to pick up a book from the sale bin and jump into the middle of a very long series. (Dragonbane being book number nineteen). But with flashbacks woven into the story, I wasn’t lost reading this as a stand-alone.

The story centers on Maxis and his brother dragons, plus his crew of were-hunters. All hell breaks loose when Seriphina, former mate of Maxis, reappears. The last time they were together she had turned him over to her Amazon queen to endure a harrowing experience, and a thousand years later he is still carrying a grudge. The news Seraphina brings forces Maxis and all of his associates into a war that none believe is winnable. With a host of players as long as your arm, Kenyon has thrown in all manner of beings, including the gods of mythology. Character development is done well by the author, creating a connection to all concerned and their struggle against evil creatures determined to take over the world.

The fighting scenes were every bit as fierce as the love scenes were steamy. It was an easy read and, despite the large cast, I never found myself wondering where everyone fit in.

I would recommend Dragonbane to anyone who enjoys a good supernatural fight with a nice side of romance.

This is a well-written, entertaining, steamy, paranormal, fantasy romance novel. It has a warrior female protagonist, a likable, kind and caring male protagonist, secrets, action, twists and turns, and a satisfying conclusion. This novel is best when read in order, because of the involved world building and the appearances of numerous characters from the previous novels. I listened to the audio book, and I added a star for the talented narration of Holter Graham, who has a captivating and expressive voice, and does an amazing job varying his voice for the numerous characters. I am looking forward to listening to more novels narrated by this actor!

PopSugar 2019: 25.

This rating was very difficult. I actually kind of liked the story. Because I read this entire series over the past 2 months I was able to handle the complexity of the story. But it did draw on several of the past books and was super convoluted.

For this book, however, I am not sure I have ever hated a heroine more. Sure - I dislike bunches of them. But this one takes the supreme cake. The ONLY thing she did right in her life was NOT cheat on her mate. But EVERYTHING else was unforgivable.

Let's see...hmmm...she was a nasty, cold bitch. She hated that he was a dragon. She allowed her "sister" tribe women to abuse him repeatedly. Touch him, molest him and hit on him. She turned him over to them for torture and abuse (harrowing). She berated him, treated him almost like a slave, had zero respect for him, resented him being her mate, dominated him whenever she could (he allowed it because it made her happy), and repeatedly verbally abused him. He offered her love and devotion and she threw it in his face. Oh and she had his children and never told him (sure - she says she could not find him). But amazingly when she needed to find him she did.

So all that was in the past. Sera, aka bitch, shows up out of the blue (do not ask me how long it has been - probably 1000 years but I could never tell) asking him to trade his life for the lives of his children. Who are being held by HER Queen whom she serves! Bitch expects him to obey her. Of course, while he is unhappy about it, he does not want his children hurt so he agrees. Then the story unfolds.

Unfortunately, he forgives her. I will not say way too quickly, because he should NEVER have forgiven her. That made me lose respect for Max. I am not a big fan of doormats or martyrs.

That being said, her actions towards him in this time period were good. But there was no way for me to forgive the past.

This presented me with a dilemma for a rating. Based on my hatred of the heroine and lack of respect for the Hero, this should have been a 1 star. However, the story was pretty interesting. So I landed on a super generous 2 stars.

I remember when I first realised a dragon lived above Santuary and just how curious about his place in the Dark hunters world I was. Then nothing really seemed to come of that snippet until recently the author seems to be revisiting her roots . I know a lot of readers will be surprised by the story featuring Maxis and possibly just a teensy bit disappointed because there are several characters waiting in the wings and readers have been clamouring for their stories. What Ms Kenyon has done here though is tie this book up to a much older series featuring the Lords of Avalon and if you thought the strife between the Arcadians and Katagaria was already complicated prepare to have your head spinning around!
No one makes their characters suffer more than this author. This couple are a perfect example of the pain and suffering those in this fascinating world face. Most definitely star crossed lovers because they are two opposite sides of a very messy coin. One born human and capable of shifting into dragon form and the other hatched from an egg with the ability to shift into a human body. Ironically it's the dragon born (Katagaria) who seem far more humane in this story but mistakes have been made on both sides . As this story begins it's up to Seraphina to convince the mate she let down ( try nearly got killed!) that he should help her rescue her missing twins. Max is honourable and so very protective of his offspring but hides dark secrets and when the truth comes out it looks like all out war is about to descend!
I love this authors ability to surprise and entertain me. Her characters are never one dimensional and I'm addicted to the sharp dialogue. It's such a very complicated world though and I had to take a minute to remind myself just who was who. Oh I'm fine with the regular contingent at Sanctuary and of course our much loved Dark Hunters but just sometimes all the various demons, gallu and pantheons have me pausing to remember when I last read about them. In this book we see the workings of the Amazons in the were hunter world as well to add to the ever expanding story arc . I seem to think that I prefer the older books in this series but just can't stop reading them as I keep hoping for more Nick, Savitar or Jaden but then the author must follow her muse but I really hope it leads her back to those incredibly passionate Dark Hunters soon

FIN

PD: lo he pensado mejor. NUNCA.

2.5 (audiobook) I am struggling to say something about this book in the series. I was really excited to read the dragon book, and boy was I disappointed. I love this series each book has it's own fire and spice this one just felt unseasoned. I was never on the edge of my seat with anticipation, never got that tingle in my toes at the smexy bits and I didn't develop any cares about the main characters. I could have quit reading (listening) to it at any point, I just didn't care. There was something missing, the emotional build up, the sense of urgency, or the fear of the bad, it wasn't there for me. It was duller than watching TV, and more predictable.
I will continue the series, I committed to this story line but I hope that the author puts the lojo back in her characters for the next one.
Note: the narrator was dong great except when they read the mother/older woman part AUUGGH how awful ! Fingernails on the chalkboard.

Maxis Drago is a man wronged. The cause of some of his pain is his mate, Sera, who has never fully accepted him for the dragon he really is.

Maxis, fed up with never coming first, being an outcast, and many other negative things, sets out to live a life of celibacy and peace.

Only problem with that is that Maxis has made some very powerful people angry.

In comes Sera back into his life and needing his help to save the children he knew nothing about.

Sera really didn't pull at my heartstrings at all. She was self-obsessed and worried about what other people thought too much and walked all over Max's heart.

Peeve: She comes back into his life and tells some sob story about how she realizes how wrong she was and saw his kids take after him in many ways. Really? You wait until they are kidnapped to tell their father about them and the kids never wanted to see their farther. UN-BELIEVABLE!

If a reader doesn't connect or like a main character and their motivations, what good is your story as a whole?

I liked Maxis, but thought him dim-witted when he accepted her back into his life.

The whole "He's/She's mine and I'll die/kill for him/her" wasn't acceptable due to a past that needed to be talked out with a therapist and not sexed out.

Not bad, just not for me.

*You best believe I did not spend my hard-earned money on this regurgitated theme*

Maxis Drago's world is turned upside-down when his drakos mate and Amazon warrior Seraphina returns to him and begs for his help after their Dragonet children are captured by demons who want to use the Dragonbane to destroy the world. Will Maxis help her even though her Amazon tribe caused him pain and suffering? Read on and find out for yourself.

This was a great installment of the Darkhunter Werehunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. If you like paranormal romances with tons of action in it, def check this series out for yourself. This book is available at your local library and wherever books are sold.

Lo he disfrutado mucho.

Let me start of by saying I have read every other book in this series, all of the CoN, everything or so I thought. I seriously thought I was up to date with this series, but I was completely lost throughout most of the book. I remember very little about Maxis, he took the memories from some humans in an earlier book I think, and I know even less about the objects several of the dragons are protecting (which really means I know nothing). I feel i should mention Sera really quick, except good the fact that I didn't actually like her, their whole interaction in the first half of the book was so ridiculous, to the point that I skimmed to get away from the awkward. The children on the other hand were pretty cool, I'm looking forward to seeing them in future books. Honestly, I barely followed what was happening, I'm probably going to have to re-read it for some if not most of it to make sense.

That being said, I still enjoyed this book. being in Sanctuary, around the Peltiers, the constant banner and bad attitudes. I was in my element, laughing my petunia off. I wish the story was longer and explained more, hopefully that will happen in the next book, but I might hold off reading out until the Dragon arc is finished to read them all together.

¿No?

So, NO.

I'm done.

Be warned. This review contains major spoiler. Do Not Read

Dragonbane, wish it was more than 20 chapters! This book wasn't enough for me. All of Ms. Kenyon's books should have uncountable chapters. Period. Dragonbane was terrific. We have met Maxis Drago many times in previous books. The quiet dragon that lives in the attic in Sanctuary that Peltiers' own, has quite the history. In the latest book, Son of No One, his young brother who was trapped in another world, reuinted with his brother Max and lives with him in Sanctuary. The opening of Dragonbane started with the past when Max and Illarion and others beings, were kidnapped for experiments to save King Lycaon's Apollite children who will die at age twenty-seven and thus leading to creation of new race. Then we moved to the current times where Max is at Sanctuary living with the crazy family of Peltiers that will made you laugh as usual when suddenly Amazonian Arcadian Drakos showed up to demand to give up Max to them and a woman among them showed up to divert them from their search and thus saved Max. This Amazonian woman, Seraphina turned out to be a Max's mate. In this book we found out they had a terrible past where Max was treated badly by her and her tribe because he was a Katagari. Max didn't want to see her ever again but she came with a major news that he has two children, twins who need him to save their life. His children are a hoot, Hadyn and Edena. But for them Max broke his vow not to see his mate again for the sake of his children lives. And with time, they became closer and he saw it himself that his mate has changed and she proved it many times. We also met his other brothers, Falcyn for the first time. He is the oldest, very surly and dark but in the end, we saw him checking out Tisiphone. I see a story. And his other brother is Blaise! From Lords of Avalon series. That very hilarious mandrake is Max's brother. Who knew.

This book was so much fun to read. It had Ms. Kenyon's humor, it had action, loyal and new discoveries. Maxis apparently is the Dragonbane. The Were, that is hated the most because he started the fight between the Arcadians and the Katagarias. But no one knows the truth except Illarion, they only know he killed in cold-blood and started the war between them. In this book, the truth was revealed by Savitar when he called the council and all Were-Hunters showed up and learnt the truth. Maxis's identity can only be identified as the Dragonbane by the brand on his thigh.

Thrilling book with the Amazonian working with Kessar (gallu) to get Max to take what he is guarding. He is guarding an object that can create and can kill, a very important and dangerous object to the world, an object that Kessar is after. Apollo released plague that is affecting the Daimons, Demons and possibly everyone, that Apollymi released him to Kessar so Apollo can be bitten by gallu and become blood slave for Kessar but that turned way south and they became partners in their quest. Leading to Olympian being attacked by the gallu with Apollo leading. A war is declared on Were-Hunters and whoever stands with them. Sadly, Illarion has been hypnotized during the battle by Apollo and working with him. Max and Illarion has always been tight. They escaped their hellish past together. Max always take care of his younger brother and what's happening to him right now is hurting him. We also saw Nick as the Malachai in this book. He is still fighting his darkness. Go, Nick. Go, Nick. Fabulous book! Wish it was more. So excited for the next one. I need more. More.

Maxis Drago is a dragon merged with human DNA. He perfers his dragon body. Seraphina is a Acadian dragon who perfers her human body. These two are mated. Seraphina turns Max over to her Amazon tribe to be disciplined. Max asked her not to do it. He says he will never forgive her and that he will leave her. Seraphina listens to her tribe over her mate. Max leaves her.

A thousand years later, Seraphina has tracked down Max. She needs his help in locating her kidnapped children. Can Max find the children? Will he shun Seraphina for the abuse she did to him? Is there a future for this mated pair?

Having read Dragonmark first, I realize how much of this story was written into Dragonmark's subplot. That being said, the characters are fleshed out. There are many secondary characters, several of whom are from earlier books in the series. The plot is completed. There is a subplot left unresolved. It will lead into
Dragonmark's plot. I feel there was too much business in this novel. Between flash backs and present, between the different setting locations and between the fighting and wars, it was an effort to keep up with everyone and everything. I recommend reading the Dark-Hunter novels in order.

God, it feels so good to read Sherrilyn Kenyon’s writing again! I didn’t even realize I missed her style. Her Dark-Hunters/Were-Hunters are wicked cool. The interactions between them are fun and highly entertaining. The best compliment I can give for Sherrilyn Kenyon’s excellent writing and plotting is, she’s got fantastic, blow-your-mind style.

This new Dragon trilogy set in the Dark Hunter world is even more exciting than the previous books. I loved Dragonbane the first time I read it and the second-read’s even better. I was in tears over everything Maxis suffered. I put myself in his boots and it made me feel that even on my baddest days, life wasn’t so bad.

To have suffered through so much agony, to have your heart ripped out over and over again and crushed to dust and still feel compassion for others, it’s a very special person who can do that. And that’s what Max was – special.

Of course, there’s also the fact that I love dragons. 😉

I wanted to dropkick Seraphina over how she treated him. Max was a gift, the most priceless treasure and she abused that. I don’t know if regret/remorse is repentance but Max deserved his happiness.

I loved all the new characters. Plus, Dragonbane also revisited all my favorite characters. I am in awe over how Sherrilyn Kenyon creates complex plots, links them all in such a way that it makes perfect sense in the end. Kudos for another great story!

Well, all good things must come to an end. This series has given us some very memorable characters and awesome books: Acheron, Zarek, Wren, Nick, to name a few. However, instead of going out on top like Seinfeld, the last few books in this series have languished to the point that this one doesn't even feel like part of the series. I like lists, so here's my list of all the things that went wrong in this book.

1) There is only so much cross-over a reader can stand. This book mixed Avalon lore with Dark Hunter, Were-Hunter, and Dream Hunter anthology. Really?

2) I love cameos of former characters, but when you are at book #25, you can't really bring back every former character there is. Or in the case of this book, I guess you can and, in the process, make a convoluted mess of the storyline.

3) The female lead was downright unlikeable, and honestly, there is no explanation for her change into a loving, caring wife. This male lead deserves better.

4) I am done with past abuse being used as the source of angst for the storyline. Find a different source for the conflict!

On the flip side, I did still enjoy the funny quips of some of the characters, like Fury and of course Savitar, who tends to save any book he is dropped in. None of the good points are worth it for me to continue reading this series though. I really need to go read a J.R. Ward book now to get the bad taste of my mouth from this one. So long, Ash, you hottie!
