A hilarious book about friendship, with a reptilian twist.
Very Boring Alligator came one day to play but he stay stay stayed and HE WOULDN'T GO AWAY.
Nothing will make this boring gator saying "pretty please" doesn't do it; even making heebie jeebie eyes doesn't help. Very Boring Alligator just doesn't seem to get it. The Gator Cops are called in to assist--but then THEY won't go away. With all these unwanted guests romping on the couch, somebody will have to take charge! Luckily, a very resourceful little girl is ready to put her foot down . . .
Jean Gralley's offbeat sense of humor and wonderfully animated illustrations turn an awkward social situation into a very entertaining tale.
This is a wonderful book. It's a great lesson in being assertive, asking for what you want, and respecting your friends when they don't want to play. Until the last page. The last page ruins this wonderful lesson by teaching that standing up for yourself means you get to be in charge all the time. I would have given it more stars if it weren't for that last page.

This gator who doesn't know how to take a hint reminds me of a certain breed of library patron who plops down in front of the Reference Desk and...refuses...to...leave. Good message about sticking up for yourself!
I believe that Jean's books are among the best children's books around, and deserving of a much larger readership. Her illustrataions, in particular are wonder, whimsical, inspired - in fact unparalleled among books for children in this day and age. Get them all, read to your children or let them read aloud to you - even parents enjoy these books.
If you have ever had unexpected company that comes over far to often monopolizing your day with their BORING conversation you will enjoy this book. I wonder if I bought this book for my neighbor if he would get the point????
Great idea for a book - even a very cool title and artwork - just doesn't seem to hit the mark. It's sort of forgettable and not really all that funny. Not bad... just not that good.
