If it’s not demon birds and spiders it’s something else haunting Hawthorne Hollow these days. Scout Randall, Michigan’s favorite pixie apex, is ready for a break. Then the unthinkable happens. It starts small during a job in the woods. The attacking force reminds Scout of something she can’t quite put her finger on. When she does identify where she knows the creatures from, she’s thrown. She saw them in a movie. She manages to push the idea from her mind. Well, mostly. Movies can’t come to life after all. Then it happens again. And again. A strange hotel shows up on the highway with an odd man who has a very overbearing mother running it. The peeping Tom ghost who hangs close to her house sees a hockey mask-wearing psycho wandering around the woods. Mama Moon is invited—more like forced—to eat dinner with a very strange family from Texas. Tableaus are popping up at every turn. They’re very similar to things Scout has seen in the movies, but also different. She’s amused. Nothing about the scenario frightens her. In fact, she’s a little excited. Then things start getting more and more dangerous. Someone very big and very powerful has come to Hawthorne Hollow. This individual has cast a spell to delight Scout. Is it a friend? Is it a foe? Will Scout manage to overcome her movie heroes, or were they created to distract her? There’s a big fight on the horizon. First, Scout has to get through a horror maze of epic proportions. She’s trapped in a literal nightmare. She just might not make it out alive. Was that the plan all along?
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
Okay I love Amanda M. Lee but... I felt like it was Saturday night at Blockbuster. I am not a horror movie fan at all. This book did nothing for me. I get it fits Scout's character but ugh. Also, why do so many characters in her books now have to be parts of prophecies, abandoned children, watched by gods or goddesses, powered up, have a kooky grandparent, and have to prepare to fight some big bad that is 20 books down the road? I liked the beginning books just about monsters and dumb humans. Kind of like Scooby doo episodes.
Absolutely pointless book. Has to be the dumbest storyline 🙄 ever. I am sure the author used all the long winded descriptions of disgusting horror movies to pad her word count, otherwise the book would be like 100 pages. Scout is disgusting now, I am surprised she even speaks, she has so devolved I expect her to grunt and grab her genitals. She was likeable and smart in the beginning, now I hate her more than Hadley, she is just that bad. This author needs to just stop. Every MC in all her series are exactly the same, only the names are changed. The men are beta males, but ripped. Clearly Lee hates men and kids and is a flaming progressive liberal with the bs she has her characters spout. I always feel like I'm reading Lee's thoughts and opinions as opposed to the characters . Also as someone who despises horror movies I was disgusted by the needless and graphic descriptions of the movies. Just a total waste of my time.
This instalment while it has an air of mystery is a lot.if fun. Scout loves horror movies and watches them over and over........even the bar one's..............so she is having a lot.of.fun and is in her element when characters and scenes from horror movies start turning up in Hawthorne Hollow. There's the new cates Motel located on the outskirts of town the sewer grate with a red gallon floating above it be so many more. Of course the fun can't last and in a house that seems to be resonating scenes from Poltergeist a small girl goes missing. Now a the pressure is.on Scout to work out what is happening but the.problem is.while she recognises the.films being copied she has no.idea.why or who would be capable of bending reality like this. Everybody is convinced whoever is behind the film treatments is doing so to get Scouts attention.................well they have that but for the life of her Scout cannot.figure.out what they want from her...............but she better figure it.out fast before more people go.missing...........
Scout is getting closer to the end game. Horror movie characters and sets start popping up all over town. People go missing but no one is dead..... yet. The gang work to figure it out.
Another fantastic read!! I don’t know where all the amazing stories come from but I can’t wait for more! The people in the stories feel like part of my family and I can’t wait to share in the next chapter of their lives! Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent and tales!!
Scout Randall, boyfriend Gunner and the Spells Angels gang have a different foe than ever before.and the villain seems strangely fixated on Scout throughout the novel.
Strange horror movie scenarios pop up and increasingly strange vignettes involving the locals show up with more frequency, threatening the towns safety. When Scout’s childhood friend Poet is kidnapped? Scout is outraged and flaming mad and goes hunting the troublemaker.
The fun part is guest appearances of other beloved series characters, from Mystic Caravan (another book family fav! so looking forward to the next novel from that series too with excitement like visiting old friends!) and of course sweet characters from the Overlook bed and breakfast (the Winchesters who are the raucously wild and crazy witch family with their own series starring the infamous Aunt Tilly.). Amanda Lee books are worth reading just for those characters alone!
The Spells Angels ending ties the series together surprisingly well and the villain is a shocker (nope, couldn’t have seen it coming) and was an absolutely worthwhile read
I wish I could bring myself to give this book a higher rating than a 3 but unfortunately I have a big issue with the continued issue of Scouts parents coming up and the situation that happened when she was a kid.
Dearest Amanda M Lee, the horse is dead. Please stop beating it. We’ve heard the rant over and over and freaking over again. It’s the same old same old. As soon as I start seeing it I start flipping the pages until it stops. I hear that affects your Kindle algorithm so please for both our sakes, do like Frozen, and Let It Go! Sincerely, Me
The story line for this book was a 5⭐️. Everything in this unique untwined series is coming to a head. I have been through all 225+ books and can’t wait to read what happens. My wish is to not have to suffer through Scouts blah, blah, blah parental drama or Luke/Jerry whiny bullshit. I’m convinced Luke and Jerry are the same character with there 3 year old tantrum throwing personalities squeezed into grown ass men. Their fits add absolutely nothing to the story and are over the top annoying.
This author never fails to come up with something different to keep me reading. In this one Scouts love of horror movies has started to come to life all over the town, with a bit of a twist. Each venue is adhering to copyright laws. Bates motel has become Cates motel, Jason Vorhees has become Jackson Vorhees etc. At first Scout is amused and thinks each venue is funny, however she starts becoming tired of the constant issues especially when Aunt Tillie fails to return home one night. As usual the entire cast of characters are with Scout to help her solve the mysteries and help keep the town safe. The BIG fight is coming soon. Will Scout and friends win. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series. Awesome author.
when all the horror movies Scout has watched invades town. While a clue is dropped early on, it really doesn’t make sense what and why this is happening. The big fight comes closer every day but for now Scout seems to be the only one who can impact the scenes but as the story progresses it becomes more than new changes… even Mama Moon’s is impacted.
We know a big battle is on the horizon and everyone is getting ready, then someone decides to put a wrench in it with horror film villains. With the wrong names! Ok so the names were kinda ok, but I didn't like getting kids involved. Scout figured out what she needed to do and why she was being tested. I can't even imagine what the big battle is going to be, but I know it will be awesome. Well, on to the next adventure!💙💚😉
I have become very frustratewith the constantly recurring phrase "hopping shoulders."
This book was not as enjoyable as any of the others. I still love the overlap of storylines. However, the horror movie theme was tiring, especially since I had never heard of many of the movies, and even if I had, I didn't know the characters.
This series is filled with sarcasm and I love it! This book brought me back to my teenage years. The only time I watched horror flicks. This story was so full of what is going to happen next that I was on the edge of my seat. There were so many laughing out loud moments as well. Everything I love about Ms. Lee's books!
I absolutely adore the characters in this series. I also appreciate that you cross over characters from your sister series. To me this adds a unique twist to the current storyline. I love the jabs and stabs your characters indulge in. I like the quirky humor sprinkled throughout your books. They are truly great.
I love this author but this series ran out of plot several books ago. The author just went through the motions and said the same things over and over again for 3/4 of the book. I finally had to skip to the end which turned out to be just as bland and annoying as the rest of the book.
Did not see that ending coming! Fun story that lulled me into thinking it was going to be a pretty routine villain and then a big twist. Well done! Looking forward to the next book. This story could be enjoyed stand alone but a lot with be missed from not knowing the background. Start at the beginning.
Wow. what a ride to go along with Scout and gang. Thoroughly enjoyed the walk through all of the horror movies, most of my favorites as well. Did not see the ending coming the way it did and yet glad to have more friends on Scout's side. Cannot wait to see what else is to come for Scout and gang.

If you have read this story series before then you will know the characters and you will also know where this series (and the Mystic Caravan series) is heading.
This book builds on that storyline with an interesting twist or two along the way.
If you haven't read this series, start with book 1 - you will be hooked!!
Book 14 has mystery, tons of magic, some crime, loads of horror movie creatures, confusion, chaos, the usual crew, and lessons learned. Even though I felt it a little draggy, it is still highly entertaining.
Another great story in the series. I love the inter-connection of the authors various series. Connecting the characters and storyline is so interesting.
Great read! The snark is through the roof in this book andbit made me laugh out loud. I probably would have gotten more out of the story if I were a horror movie fan but it was still an excellent read.
This was a good tale, but Scout’s humor at the situation was too much like Tillie- and Tillie’s time has come and gone in my opinion- hopefully the final battle is a few books away.
I'm half way through and closing it for good. I've enjoyed this series and others by Amanda Lee, but this one? I don't need the plot of every horror film written out and I'm over Scout. 162 pages in and I'm bored.
This is book 14 and I wasn't disappointed. This is just as exciting as all of the others. It's nice to have a series where you can be surprised in every book about the ending. I can't wait for the next one.
Wow what an exciting story. We are getting closer to the final battle which is kinda sad but exciting. I don’t want this storyline to end but Amanda knows what she’s doing. Loved it
This book was hilarious. I laughed so hard and I kind of wanted to have a look at all the displays as well. The story was interesting, and of course the characters here are great. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.
I love Amanda's sense of humor. I am not a horror movie fan, however, this one was hysterical. I so enjoy reading along and seeing how quick Scout blows up! I cannot wait till the next one. Enjoy reading! It's a good one.
Very little of Ruthie, one of my least favorite characters. On the minus side, these series are becoming too intertwined. Readers almost need a program to keep track of everyone. Also, if you’re not a big fan of horror movies, this doesn’t play out well.
