While I understand what Az thinks he's doing, I'm very nearly convinced it will bite him in the ass.

Better than that spate of underwhelming volumes a while back, certainly, but not the heights of the series. Also, have the hats always been so incredibly awful and I just forgot?

Anyway, Sett and Nina have some real talk that’s my favourite part of the whole volume. I mean, there are different sorts of love and I think Nina has one kind, maybe, while Sett has another, but she clearly gets where he’s coming from at the very least, no matter how they play out. It’s not an issue of misinterpretation and that’s really welcome.

This series works for me when it’s a more intimate affair and tends to lose me when the big politicking takes the stage. And that’s down to personal taste; I’m a far bigger fan of personal stories than the huge swings. So do keep that in mind.

As treacly as it is, I also like Nina’s views on wish granting, which puts her firmly at odds with the series’ final boss, Alisha. Naturally, Az is being forced to play his own role to keep Alisha in check, which continues to separate him from Nina.

It’s good where I want it to be good, basically. Sett has the dubious distinction of being one of the few rivals I wouldn’t mind seeing actually win the day, so that’s a huge plus despite my grousing about various this and that.

And it does focus in on the important stuff at the end, from great Nina and Sett moments, plus returning characters, to one stark little cliffhanger image to end the volume on. Nicely done.

I was sure that this would be mired in mediocrity forever, but it definitely feels like we’re getting back to the higher quality that I want from this. It still missteps here and there, but on the whole it’s got good soapy stuff, moves the plot forward, and has enough mystery to keep it intriguing.

4 stars - please continue to trend upward, story, as nothing would make me happier than for the hats to be the only thing that ruffles my tail feathers here.

Up to chapter 59

So

It's unfortunately fortunate for me that Kodansha has added Nina to their simulpub release on the Kmanga app. I was trying to hold off because this series is meant to be read one volume at a time, not one chapter, because I need to be emotionally wrecked. And late at night so I can feel the full force of it. 😬

I was doing a good job holding off but since the anime is now out I caved. It's great. Really. I spent a little bit of time giggling and kicking my feet and then I cried a little bit. We're back to developing the characters again which I hate a little because it means... well no spoilers... I'm still trying to decide if my ship is going to be successful or if it's going to sink..

Now I need to try and be patient for a few weeks u til there is a whole 'nother volume worth of chapters to read, because it ended ona CLIFFHANGER.

To be real, I was disinterested when Nina takes princess Alisha's place. And her lover interest was so remote. But after she goes to meet her fiancé, the story starts to be really good and the protagonist has a lot of low points after. Nina is hard to like sometimes because she really believes that everyone can be good. She really needs Sett looking out for her in that part.

It's obvious that Sett is the real love interest, he saved her many times and is not forcing his love anymore.
Azure is the villain, and the real princess Alisha. Az wants to be the king of the world and use Nina's powers to control other nations. Not sure how much longer the story will be, but I believe that there is in almost resolution after Nina and Hikami's travel to find the Star People.

I feel like the volume dragged out a lot but I'm the end I'm satisfied that the cast all seem to have figured out their tasks and cat advance now. The moment that Nina finally settled on her feelings for sett also have me a bunch of relief and satisfaction. At this point I'm not just team sett but also dislike Az's behavior, major red flags and dealers no matter the motive.

I'm looking forward to the next volume! Recently recapped with the new anime, which I really liked and how for season 2!

It feels complicated at this point. I love Sett I don't love that the love triangle seems so strong still. Sol is my favorite character he is so interesting and her guard is back loved them so that makes me happy.

Art keeps getting more beautiful

Beautiful art, story. How Nina's and Sett's bond has developed. How determined Azure is to work from behind the scenes even if that means being aways from Nina (I missed Azure in this volume!), how determined Nina to trust in Azure...
