Part 2 of the Rock Star's Seduction series, and sequel to Rock Me Hard!
Four years after their passionate night together, Kaitlyn is finally face to face with Derek Kane once again.
She’s a struggling journalist. He’s the biggest rock star in the world. And he has an offer for her… but there’s a price.
Kaitlyn is wary. She still has strong feelings for Derek, but that’s the problem: he’s a womanizer, and fame seems to have gone to his head.
But Derek is gorgeous, charismatic, and seductive – and still seems to be in love with her. The longer Kaitlyn holds out, the more she wants to give in to him… body and soul.
Warning: this book ends with a cliffhanger. Contains profanity, drug use, and explicit sexual scenes. For mature audiences only. 115,000 words.
Well sh**! i wasn't expecting that at all. i thought after everything these two have been through they'd finally get to be happy, but Olivia isn't making it easy at all...
I loved how this story started out with Kaitlyn telling her story and getting you ready for what was about to happen. The writing style was amazing; it was actually reading an article. But, you don’t even realize it until the end. All the stops at the end of the chapters get you ready to expect something, but nothing is ever how you want it to be. Kaitlyn was scared of EVERYTHING at first, but as the story progresses she comes out of her shell and exposes the girl we all knew was in there in book 1. I loved her personality even more in this book, but hated that she sometimes second guessed herself all because of Derek…
Now Derek is a completely different guy then in book one. I wasn’t sure how to feel about him. He has definitely let fame get to his head, and the sweet and charming guy from book 1 wasn’t there anymore. At first he was wonderful, but he just kept throwing me for loops with his mood swings. I couldn’t help but to love him though, cause in-between the cracks is an amazing guy he just lost himself somewhere after losing Kaitlyn in book 1.
The relationship is great, then not so great, then I don’t even know. I usually don’t cry with Rock star books, but with this one I shed an actual tear. Not on purpose either it was just because I felt for Kaitlyn and wanted her to really be happy. Now, let me tell you I loved the band!! Yes! They were hilarious from Miles the band manager who is a complete crazy ass English black man (but cracked me up), to Killian who out of his mind high but a beast on the guitar (and the sweetest but most confusing man ever), to Riley who couldn’t be more inappropriate if you tried to write her yourself (she’s a ball of sarcastic lesbian love though)…and to finally RYAN, remember him? Yes! That little guy grew into an amazing sexy man and he was an absolutely big part of this book. I saw a love triangle forming, but not completely getting there, and to be honest I’m not sure how I feel about that. I’m not the writer, but if that come to be imma feel like “why the hell did I spend so much time on the main two characters in books 1 and 2?” Just saying.
I absolutely loved the first book and waited so long for Derek and Kaitlyn to finally be reunited. Well, be careful what you wish for! That sweet, head-over-heels in love Derek that we all fell for in book 1, doesn't exist in this book. Instead, we get the self-important, egotistical man-whore that is the new and famous Derek Kane! What an ass! After all this time pining over her, he gets his chance and screws it up royally!
As pissed as I am right now, I have to say that it was an excellent book. Every other character was great, even if Derek grew into a huge ass. Ryan is still the sweet, quiet guy we remember from the first book and part of me wants Kaitlyn to end up with him.
Shamefully, I have to admit that a part of me also wants Derek to turn back into the nice guy from book 1 and redeem himself. I'm a sucker for those guys that you want to hate...but love them anyway. I guess I'm kind of masochistic that way.
The book ends with a huge cliffhanger, so I really hope the next one comes out soon. I'm dying to see how it all works out!
SPOILER ALERT!!!! Beware!! Omg I want to literally kill Derek right now. What in the he'll happened to the sweet rocker from the first book. Ok I started out liking Derek in the first half of this book. It is clear that he has wanted Kaitlyn back for the past four years. He flirts, teases, makes her jealous, and seduces her to try to get her walls broken down. Finally Kaitlyn gives in and they get together. And man is it freaking hot. The sex is on fire hot. But after spending 5 week of 24/7 time together on the road while Kaitlyn gathers info to write her article for Rolling Stone they start fighting. Fighting ALOT. Derek becomes the asshole all his band members warns her he's going g to become. He starts flirting more, looking more at women, signing boobs, and just being a jerk. At the end of the tour in las Vegas Derek tells her he's going away for a few days for some space. She finds out where he's staying and dresses up to go surprise him. But a tall beautiful model looking woman answers the door naked wrapped in a sheet and she hears Derek call her babe in the background. Then it ends. Omg this is the worst book cliff hanger ever. I need the next book right now. Omg I'm dying here. I'm thinking her and his band mate and best friend Ryan need to go on up now for sure. He's such a good, responsible, hot, loving guy. And he's been above with Kaitlyn for years. He sounds perfect for her!
I actually completely forgot about this series...that's the thing with series' theres so many going on its hard to remember. I came across my review of the first book and clearly loved it so re-read and dived straight into this. well it loved it but I have to admit the way the story is going is kind of breaking my heart. I feel like there will be a happy ending in the final book but maybe not the one that we all wanted.. sometimes guys can be dicks! end off!
Not sure if this is the second book in the series or not but I just finished a book by Olivia Thorne "rock all night" And I'm literally about to cry because I have to wait so long for the next book. Also, that cliffhanger sucked. Not even cool :(
Great book, addictive writing with really good, fleshed out and hilarious characters. Have to agree, Derek Kane didn't only do a 180, I think he did a 360 character turn around in this book. Pretty disappointed with the kind of person rock star life turned him into. What happened to the sweet guy who recited Chaucer and votive candles in the first book? sad...but in a way true to real life. The cliffhanger at the end broke my heart.
Slight spoilerish, but on the otherhand--I'm in love with Ryan. He's it for me. His innocent cuteness in the first book has matured to sigh-worthy sweetness. About half-way into the book, particularly the "mushroom" trip, I think that's when the readers knew that he was the swoon-worthy one. I actually said out loud half way, 'I wished a guy like this existed in real life' lol. I used to loved Derek, he was arrogant, but sweet. In this book, unfortunately, he was just arrogant. I guess every love story has it's place and time and now it's time for Kaitlyn to move on. But not before she gives Derek hell first.
Just wanted to add, post-day read, I feel like Kaitlyn and Derek did have amazing, lust-filled chemistry. Very lustfilled, so much so, it probably eclipsed their emotional development. I think alot have to do with Derek's new life-style that took away the caring, somewhat level-headed, honest guy we met in the first book. And I agree with Shanna, Derek brought out the childish, fantasy side of Kaitlyn. I was totally agreeing with her editor about her unprofessionalism. Girl, you are here to write for the Rolling Stones! Do more writing and less Derek!
So, to start I want it to be known that I loved loved LOVED the first book. The second book I am a little torn and liking and disliking.
May contain some minor spoilers!
I knew this book had a cliffhanger going into it, I recieved an email from the author and I think it was posted in the opening introduction. But still...
I was Team Derek all of the first book, I kept wishing she would break up with Kevin and give Derek a chance. Maybe if she did they would have had a different relationship. But now I can't stand Derek. Not because of what he did at the end but because of his whole personality through out the book.
Let me explain, in the first book, he was sweet and charming and trying so hard to win her over. It felt like in the second book once he had her he didn't want her. It was like a game or something. I know he is a big and powerful rockstar and the ego went to his mind but I felt like he should have had a soft spot for her.
I hope in the third book Kaitlyn grows a back bone and doesn't take him back. I want the third book to start a couple months after the hotel incident and her reliving her feelings. Maybe Kaitlyn and Derek's eyes connected and she shakes her head and walked out of the room with Derek screaming after her and she just says I'm done. And we see her living her life and hanging out with Shanna, dating and working at the Rolling Stones. Maybe Ryan comes back into her life and her and him get together! Who knows, but I surely hope that she never takes Derek back!!!!!! I think it would ruin the series for me.
Must read series. I have never laughed so hard that I needed a tissue. There was also some sad tears but the majority of this book was hysterical. I was disappointed with both Kaitlyn and Derick though, 1 Kaitlyn should have walked away from the start and not put up with all Dericks shit and how god awful he treated her, 2 Derrick changed so much from book 1 to this story in book 2. He played the part of "the rock god-whore" a little to well and did not care who he stepped on to get the attention he swore he deserved. I do feel that he has "mommy" issues that he needs to work on by himself, but I want him and Kaitlyn to come back together in the end for a HEA ending. I love Ryan and all but she loves him more as a friend and is more confused by his attentive towards her vs. Dericks none. Even with a horrific cliff hanger for an ending..., you need to read this series ASAP. NEED BOOK 3 immediately please!
Loved the first book & was seriously disappointed with the cliffhanger to have it happen again sucks when you have to wait again.
It did feel like a middle book though like when you read a stand alone and the beginning grabs you the middle is mediocre then the ending makes up for it so that's what I hope happens with this series.
It really dragged in the beginning lots of sex filling gaps, parts were funny, the end predictable, so I'm really hoping the next book reaches the expectations I had when I read the first one.
I never write bad reviews I guess I'm just disappointed. hey well Ile just have to rock on n read on lol.
You little fucker! where did the Derek in book one go? all the ingredients where there and damn there were some hot scenes, but the essence of Derek and that indescribable electricity was not there....I kept reading and waiting for it to come back but it never did...then it had to end like that? you little fucker! But of course I have to find out how this plays out. reviews indicate a disappointing turn of events but I'm a sucker for a little fucker! I take back my comparison to Kellan... No, Derek is not even close

So, this is where the actual story begins I suppose. The first book basically serves as a really long winded prologue, though why the author even bothered is beyond me since all of her characters are suddenly nothing like they were in the first book.
The same things that annoyed me in the first book, annoyed me in this one.Find that review here
Slut shaming, bad grammar, inconsistencies and annoying characters. Only this time throw in a feckless idiot for a heroine, a manipulative psycho stalker alpha and his utterly boring best friend and we've got our lovely little love triangle. I suppose Derek was turned into such an unlikeable douchelord so we would want to give Ryan a chance.
There's also the (literally) dirty lesbian character who is all over Kaitlyn. I have no idea why this necessary? Comedic Relief?
With so much happening in this book the mind still boggles at how the author managed to still deliver a boring book that was way too long winded and Kaitlyn never actually writes an article.
I read this straight after the first book, the change that had occurred over the last four years in the characters lives is apparent from the start. The darkness in this instalment surprised me, Derek and Kaitlyn have changed immensely but the chemistry between them is still apparent.
Kaitlyn gets the offer an article with Rolling Stone Magazine, the only drawback is that she has to revisit the past and interview Derek Kane and his band. Turning the job down initially Kaitlyn eventually goes to face up to her past and finds that Derek has changed considerably since the last time she saw him. Will Derek and Kaitlyn be able to put the past behind them?
I'd loved Derek in the first book but in this volume not so much. The ending was pretty much what I expected so I reached for the next instalment immediately. These books are not the usual rock star romances but that is what makes them so addictive.
I waited for this book for what seemed like forever. But it was definitely worth the wait. I loved the first book so much and I Knew this would bejust as good. The way it's written is SO attention grabbing. It's like the speaker is treating the reader like a best friend. I thought for sure I knew how the story was going to end, but boy was I wrong. Usually when I read books I can pretty much guess the ending beforehand and I like knowing. But with this, I had to keep reading to find what the end game was going to be, well at least a hint of what it could be. It was definitely a rollercoaster ride. Derek would be sweet one minute then be a total jerk the next. I wanted Kaitlyn to get her happiness but she kept expecting Derek to be the same Derek from 4 years ago. Anyway I cannot wait for the last one. MUST KNOW HOW IT ENDS! Thank you Olivia Thorne for this amazing read!
Oooo boy, this was a thrilling ride! Loved the band - all of the characters are stellar! Particularly loved Ryan. And Shanna makes an appearance in this one and is her ever loving crazy slutty self. But.... not loving Kaitlyn. The issues she had with Derek strayed into whinyville! Yes, I totally understood where she was coming from but good gosh, girl! Get a grip. And Derek - needs to grow the hell up! He is living life like a rock star!! And the sexy times - blew my Kindle to bits!! Hella Hawt!! Strong writing, intelligent dialogue. Loved the literary references. And I have to say that I am totally pissed that I have to wait yet again for a part 3. This ended with quite the cliffhanger and have to wait until Fall/early winter. At least it is the end of the series. Soooooo tired of multi part books!
This was so boring I stopped at page 40 and let me tell you it was hard enough to go even to that page. Finally, she pissed me off so much I didn't even care what will happen to those 2 to skip all the boring parts to the ones I actually wanted to read.
Author dragged the story so much it doesn't make any sense why.
If she knew how to write the story both of these books could have been 1, with every feeling, atmosphere and thoughts she wanted us to have written in far less descriptive "what she's feeling" parts and word to word boring conversations or/and situations. It just lacks juice. Did I say it was boring? OMG, it was so boring.
Oh..in first book I actually skipped some things, where she is basically repeating herself.. I didn't bother with this one.
Hail to the writer!! The writing style for these two books is exactly how I want books to be written. I want to be told a story, detail by detail without the boring elaborations on useless things like trees and the sky!! I absolutely loved this One!
My review is slightly different from my friends', who all thought Derek's man-whoreness was appalling...okay yes it most definitely was, but Kaitlyn irritated the shit out of me as well. She had a needy, entitled air about her that I felt was undeserved seeing that she was the one who dumped the poor guy for an idiot of a boyfriend four years back. My main gripe with her is her indecisive and weak nature in general. She has no spine but calls out others similar to herself for exactly the same behavior!
I just say though that I honestly enjoyed reading this book.
When you read part two, you can't help but have a strong sense of foreboding. And without fail, about 75% in the hammer drops and your world (as readers know and expect it) falls apart. I am so mad at almost all the characters right now, other than Killian, I just need to start reading the third book to see who can redeem themselves first. It is always a bad sign when the story of the scorpion and the frog is brought into play. However I also think that even thought Kaitlyn is supposed to be this beautiful girl and she kind of knows it, she is all of a sudden very insecure about how much Derek loves her. So after talking with Shauna that puts her inner conflicts at the front of her mind and she is basically setting herself up for failure. It not all her fault in the least, but that didn't help their situation.
Unlike in other reviews, I totally expected what happened to happen. This is not the same Derek Kane as in the first book and I hated this one!! I didn't feel bad for Kaitlyn because she was so gullible and allowed him to treat her and talk to her like crap! Even when the other members of the band warn her she still doesn't listen!
The other band members were the reason I finished this book. They were awesome! However, the only way I will read book 3 is if Kaitlyn ends up with Ryan because Derek is a piece of crap loser and doesn't deserve anyone's love.
On another note, I am also disappointed because this book was delayed for so long and I was a bit disappointed with it. Wasn't worth the extra long wait :-(
I have mix feelings about this book, I wanted a lot for the second one as the first one was really good, and Olivia was true to her word when she promised more sex in the 2nd book. But I don't know what to think of Kaitlyn, to be honest, There were so many times I wanted to slap her, man talk about poor selfsteem!!! From Derek, well It makes sense he is totally changed, his heart was ripped in the first book and adding fame that is a recipe for bad results. I feel like the story dragged a lot. And I agree Ryan was the best in the book, but as much as I will like for Kaitlyn and him to end up together I'm not sure if that would be the best, I guess, we just have to wait and see, again!!!!!
I'm kind of embarrassed to add this book to my goodreads list, but as far as guilty pleasures go, this series is so good! Ah, cliffhangers.... SPOILERS: I have no idea what Thorne will do with the next book--can Derek be redeemed? Can Kaitlyn be less needy/annoying? Am I supposed to be rooting for Ryan and Kaitlyn? I like Ryan on his own, but for Thorne to go that route just seems like a boring and wrong choice. I loved Derek in the first book, so I'm going to keep hanging on to the hope that book 3 will pick up several years down the road and maybe give Derek/Kaitlyn a happy ending somehow.
I loved the first book A LOT. Derek was this amazing understanding guy that wore his heart out, but I was quite sad because there wasn't even an inkling of the old Derek. It's kind of heart breaking. Kaitlyn and Derek's relationship in this book seem to just revolve around sex and not much passion. I missed the old Derek. Derek was this whole new person. Not in a good way. Ryan on the other hand. OH MY GOD He is the sweetest guy ever!!! He's so caring of kaitlyn and her well being. Swooooon worthy. For once I want the other guy, thats in love too but doesn't usually get the girl, to get the girl. I can't wait for the next book.
Now that Kaitlyn has graduated from college, she can pursue her career in journalism. But it's tough out there.
Rolling Stone wants her to interview Derek, but can she take the chance that her heart will be destroyed again?
In this book we get to see the two of them navigate through their love and heartache. If you liked the first book, I certainly did, then you must read this one. It is so well written as you experience Kaitlyn's path through her eyes.
There is a lot of sex in this one. Yummy, enticing, explosive sex. Enjoy!!
Kaitlyn has decided to give Derek a chance and see what they can build. Kaitlyn is learning and fast that Derek is very different from when they were younger. He is a rock star now a womanizer, drugs, booze, and groupies and it is getting between them. They fight and argue more and more.
I have grown mixed emotions in this book. I have grown to love Ryan, Hate Derek, and wonder what the hell is wrong with Kate. Oh lordy Olivia Thorne what are you doing to me! Bring on book three! Once again the story is short and part of a trilogy. I want more!
you gotta be kidding me!!!! great story about such a really complicated relationship even though i was in love of Derek in the first book , now i really hate him . what the fuck is wrong with him ? i'll rather choose Ryan over him. he turned out to b a complete ass , i hope a reaaally good explanation in the third book Reaally !!!!!
This one was a hard one to read as a second of a trilogy- especially the first 75% of the book. The main character seems to believe she’s some feminist - refuses to be told what to do, gets angry whenever a man suggests to as much as help her with anything (she’s independent!!!) and flips off the handle at the single wrong phrasing from the men around her who have objectively treated her well considering she popped into their lives as a journalist having just been the woman who tore out the heart of their main singer/ best friend.
The way she disparages other women who are more open minded or comfortable with themselves is disheartening and also concerning. I’ve yet to come across a FMC who throws around terms like “slut” or “whore” as much as her and while it’s a clear window into her obvious insecurities and possibly effed up upbringing, it’s not really acceptable. She continues to justify her poor behavior and negative outlook on women who have more mature outlooks on what they want in life. Shanna makes a reappearance and it only solidifies the idea that she is - while maybe misguided and needs help herself- more self aware and in tune with her wants and needs than the FMC ever has been. The dichotomy between her tearing down other women for wanting to have a fun time and her interest in heated passionate sex is exhausting at best - if you’re so naive that you judge everyone else for anything they do (you’re a 23 year old adult, not 14- grow up) then you should hold to your insanely strict morals that you keep for others or lighten up.
