Sweet Cowboy Christmas

Rate this book
Mistletoe, holly, and cowboys, oh my! Christmas in Texas has never been sweeter.

Years ago, Chase Morgan traded in his dusty cowboy boots for the shimmering lights of New York City and a fast track up the corporate ladder. But when his shiny life is turned on end just in time for Christmas, Chase knows he needs to reevaluate—even if that means going home to Texas to endure his least favorite holiday.

When Mr. Tall, Dark, and Smoking-Hot walks through her door at the Magic Box Guest Ranch, Faith Walker sees just another handsome, rich exec looking to play cowboy for a week—at her expense. She's sure the grumpy-but-sexy-as-hell Scrooge will put a crimp in her holly jolly plans. Until a sizzling kiss has her seeing him in a new light.

Chase is haunted by secrets, and even though it goes entirely against her "hands off the guests" rule, Faith is tempted to help him leave the past behind. As the magic of the season swirls around them, she is determined to succeed, because now she is certain one sweet cowboy Christmas will never be enough.

Happy Release Day! I love this series!

4 Sweet Cowboy Christmas lovin' stars!

Sweet Cowboy Christmas is a wonderful holiday novella from Candis Terry’s Sweet, Texas series, a series I adore. This story is filled with lots of smiles and sigh-worthy moments that can be found in the love of friends, family, and that ‘special someone’.

Blurb…

Mistletoe, holly, and cowboys, oh my! Christmas in Texas has never been sweeter.

Years ago, Chase Morgan traded in his dusty cowboy boots for the shimmering lights of New York City and a fast track up the corporate ladder. But when his shiny life is turned on end just in time for Christmas, Chase knows he needs to re-evaluate even if that means going home to Texas to endure his least favourite holiday.

When Mr. Tall, Dark, and Smoking Hot walks through her door at the Magic Box Guest Ranch, Faith Walker sees just another handsome, rich exec looking to play cowboy for a week-at her expense. She’s sure the grumpy, but sexy as hell Scrooge will put a crimp in her holly jolly plans. Until a sizzling kiss has her seeing him in a new light.

Chase is haunted by secrets, and even though it goes entirely against her “hands off the guests” rule Faith is tempted to help him leave the past behind. As the magic of the season swirls around them, she is determined to succeed because now she is certain one sweet, cowboy Christmas will never be enough...

My thoughts…

This really is a truly happy, feel good story. Chase’s secrets are haunting, but not daunting. He’s an amazing man who comes to know that, with the love of the right woman, anything is possible – even finding the happily ever after you never dreamed could be yours.

Sweet, engaging holiday story. I really enjoyed this, and now I want to read more by Candis Terry. This was the first book I've read that she's written, and I liked her voice. Hard to put down, great characters, and it helped get me in the mood for the holidays!

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Candis Terry's Sweet Texas series, so when I saw that she was publishing a holiday novella I couldn't have been happier. She always writes such heartfelt, genuine romances that make me fall in love with love all over again. A side of sweet-talking Texas men doesn't hurt either. ;)

In Sweet Cowboy Christmas we meet Chase Morgan, a New York transplant who thought he had it all until a heart scare forces him to rethink his priorities. At the advice of his cousin, Paige (one of Sweet's very own), he decides to visit his home state for some relaxation. It's been years since he's been so close to his childhood home; after his father died of unexpected heart failure on Christmas morning when Chase was eighteen, Chase could no longer deal with the bittersweet memories and so moved away to New York. He's been avoiding the holiday ever since, that is until he meets Faith, owner of the ranch he's currently staying at. She is honest and down to earth, and her genuine spirit makes him see things in a new light. Maybe this Christmas is just what the doctor ordered.

It was so good to be back in Sweet, Texas, especially for the holidays, and I was excited to meet two new characters. Chase and Paige don't exactly get off on the right foot, mostly because she holds understandable bitterness toward the "corporate", rich types Chase seems to embody. Luckily he takes her attitude in stride and actually finds her bluntness refreshing. I like the way these two communicated and that there's very little drama. With just 100 pages, I wanted a simple, feel-good story, and that's exactly what I was given. I didn't quite feel the emotional connection between Chase and Faith as I have with Candis Terry's other couples, but there were enough butterfly-making moments to make this girl happy. You don't need to read the rest of the series to enjoy Sweet Cowboy Christmas, but I highly, highly recommend that you do!

Sweet Cowboy Christmas is one of the only novellas I've ever read that convincingly conveyed emotional depth and strong character development in only 100 pages. I've been a fan of Terry's from her first Sweet, Texas novel, and I had a background in the town, but that is absolutely not necessary for the enjoyment of this book.

I'm the first to admit that I'm not a huge fan of novellas - I feel that there's just not enough time for an author to delve into the characters enough for me to get to know them, to love them, and to eventually root for them.

Candis Terry blew that out of the water.

The novella introduces us to Chase Morgan (Abby Morgan's - from SWEETEST MISTAKE - cousin) and Faith Walker. There is insta-lust, and I must admit that I adore insta-lust, though I roll my eyes at the insta-love. There was no eye-rolling here, however, as the emotional connection between the two grew over a period of time. Terry deftly navigated me from days to weeks, painting broad strokes of activity while not drowning in details. The overall effect was one I could believe - two people, getting to know each other, realizing love, and doing something about it.

The holiday was definitely the background story, and I loved that. The novella really focused on the characters, and Terry hit it out of the park.

I strongly recommend this read for a quick hit of holiday cheer without being over-the-top, a guaranteed smile throughout the story, and the happy sigh I always get when Terry is at the wheel.

Five stars.

(Disclaimer: I was provided an eARC of this novella from the publisher in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. All thoughts are my own.)

Espresso review of Sweet Cowboy Christmas

Chase Morgan traded his cowboys boot for the big city and big dreams. A health scare reminds him of Christmas past and he heads home to Texas to reassess life. Not sure, he can handle going home to the family homestead and its memories, he books a cabin at the Magic Box Guest ranch where he meets proprietor Faith Walker. The tale that unfolds shows them both the meaning of Christmas and just how sweet life can be. I loved the banter and chemistry between them. Terry weaved a slow-building romance with tender moments. She weaves in a little heat and some romantic cuddles by the fire. Perfect for a light, feel good holiday read by your fire.

Sweet Cowboy Christmas is a short, sweet novella that will get you in the holiday mood. Even though this is part of the Sweet, Texas series it will work as a standalone. It's the perfect way to try out the series/author.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Sweet is definitely the right term to describe this story. Faith is strong, independent and speaks her mind. When Chase comes to stay at Faith's country retreat the sparks fly. This was a fun, romantic Christmas novella which made me wan to put up my tree. I enjoyed the author's writing. Sweet Cowboy Christmas is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. I haven't read the rest of the series but I'll be adding it to my wish list.

This heartwarming short story is perfect Christmas preparation. We get to meet a wounded alpha male and a hurt, sassy, curvy woman. They somehow manage to find their way to each other and the rest unfolds before our eyes. Christmas is for fairy tale romances, even in Texas!

I thought that this would be the perfect time to re-read Candis's Sweet Cowboy Christmas. While I remember bits and pieces of this little novella, it was still fun getting to meet Chase and Faith again. It was a little weird at the beginning because I clearly read it before, as evident by my previous highlighting, and I typically don't re-read. So it took me a few pages for me to get into the story. After that, you couldn't pry me away from my Kindle. It's a sweet, sexy Christmas romance between two characters that are struck by the instant attraction. She thinks he's like every other suit that walks onto her ranch. He would like to get to know her better on a more personal level... If only she would stop jumping to the wrong conclusions. They both have to open up about the secrets that haunt them in they want a future together.

I had fun re-reading Sweet Cowboy Christmas. It reminded me a lot of what initially drew me to Candis's books back in the day. They are fun romances with a shot of sexy and a side of a rambunctious family. I look forward going back to relive some of those early books and to finally read the books I missed.

*ahem* That means you, Reno Wilder.

Christmas novels and novellas need some magic and cannot end in tragedy...So events at the Magic Box guest ranch in Texas can only have a positive outcome where love and lust get together and sweet pleasures are mixed with torrid desires..."Kissing Faith was like the Fourth of July and Christmas morning all rolled into one..." (55) and that's only a kiss, but how can we not vibrate with Chase's "deep groan that came from somewhere deep in his soul" (96) and sure we expect and hope for this and would love to take Faith along with Chase...but that's the name of the game, isn't it? Ah, no spoilers, you have to read it, but expect some steamy sex and lots of love...

Short but sweet

What more can you ask for? We get to visit some friends from Sweet, Texas, but mostly meet new friends! Both the hero and heroine are likable believable characters who deserve their happy ending. This short story is about #3.5 in the series, but it is good to get a taste of the series. If you have never visited Sweet, Texas, then sit down and enjoy. If you've been there before, enjoy this quick return!

This is the first book that I have read written by Candis Terry and it certainly won't be the last.

In this story, I fell in love with all the characters and just could not put it down. An excellent novella that tells quite a story.

I think you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Given the hero and heroine are strangers, I wasn't convinced by the relationship development here. The novella was far too short for this to feel like anything less than insta-love. DNF and unhauled.

Sweetest Sweet Cowboy Christmas novella! Candis knows how to touch the heart.

Chase Morgan has left the stress of New York City behind to take his cousin, Abby Morgan, up on an offer to come visit Sweet for a little rest and relaxation – yes, that’s the same Abby Morgan who is marrying the handsome and adorable pain in the ass, Jackson Wilder. She has arranged for him to stay at the Magic Box Guest Ranch in Sweet, Texas and although, being back in Texas isn’t his most favorite thing in the world, especially at Christmastime, Sweet is better than going home to Stephenville. He just needs some quiet time to reassess his life, where he’s going, what he’s doing, and how to keep from dying in the process.

Faith Walker loves Christmas and she especially loves it because it means she won’t have any snobby high-roller guests hanging around the ranch, only the underprivileged kids she makes Christmas for every year. It’s definitely the best time of year, or so she thought until her sister Paige called and begged her to open up one of the cottages for one New York City guest. If he weren’t a cousin of their best friends, Abby and Annie, she would’ve refused but she just couldn’t do that to friends. She decided he’d just have to make do with the bare necessities of the ranch – nothing special. Of course, the last thing she expected was to have her ‘unwanted’ guest turn out to be the most handsome man she’d ever seen and when he didn’t ask for anything special, except her...well, surprises come in all sizes.

Let me just say that Candis managed to pack just as much of a wallop into her Sweet, Texas novella as she did into her full-length novels in the series. I guess I should have expected as much since her past novellas have always touched me to my heart. Whereas, perhaps, the core of this novella is more light-hearted than say Paige and Aiden’s in HOME SWEET HOME, which first introduced us to Sweet, Texas but all the same, it hit me with a whammy and yes, I ended up leaking tears at the end. I’m not going to tell you when or why my eyes started leaking because it would spoil things, but suffice it to say – it’s a sweet, Sweet, Texas ending as only Candis can conjure.

SWEET COWBOY CHRISTMAS by Candis Terry is everything fans of the Sweet, Texas series expects from this wonderful writer of contemporary romance. With her words, she paints a picture of a ranch donned in Christmas lights, decked with holly, and wreaths, and conjures characters that make you smile, cry, laugh, and say aww! – all packed into a novella. Amazing!

I highly recommend SWEET COWBOY CHRISTMAS, a Sweet Texas novella by Candis Terry for every reason imaginable for reading a romance novel…it’s that good. Treat yourself to a gift of love in this delightful, heartfelt romance, which will lighten the spirit, and bring some holiday cheer into your mind and heart through Chase and Faith’s story as only Candis can manage to do.

Sweet Cowboy Christmas by Candis Terry is a 2014 Avon Impulse publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

This a short, but sweet contemporary western romance centered around the magical small town holiday season.

It's Christmas at the Magic Box Guest Ranch and Faith has thrown herself into making the place festive for the season. When a tall, dark, and handsome man arrives , obviously another rich, entitled person, Faith is initially unimpressed.

Chase is from Texas but moved to the big apple to pursue life as a top corporate executive. But, the fast paced world he lives in begins to take a serious toll. It's time to slow down, so Chase takes a little vacay to Sweet, Texas which not too far from his hometown of Stephenville.

With Chase being the only guest, it's easy for Faith to get to know him a little better, which leads to the temptation of getting overly involved with a guest, which of course is a big no-no.

Chase is dealing with some really big issues in his life and it looks like now is the time to deal with them, and there is no better place on earth than Sweet, Texas and Magic Box Guest Ranch to start fresh, especially if Faith is there to believe in him.

It's not too often a person opens a book at random and finds their small town is featured prominently in the story. I happen to live in Stephenville, and yes, it is the cowboy capital of the world. So, I couldn't help finding this story especially charming.

Faith learned a long time ago where her priorities in life lay. She had the chance to mingle with highly talented successful people, who held a certain disdain for those who crave a simpler way of life. But, finding out how her colleagues and one man in particular viewed her small town roots, she decided it was not the life for her.

I think Chase's story is a fairly a common one. Sometimes folks from smaller communities think they need to leave to pursue life in the fast lane. It all seems great when the money, power and attention from super-models all starts flowing in. But, as Chase learns the hard way he can only continue on that path for so long before it starts to catch up with you.

Although Chase has some tough memories to face by returning home, he learns a valuable lesson about life and suddenly the glitz and glamor of New York no longer holds his interest. Instead, the little ranch in Sweet, TX and the wonderful owner and operator of the ranch just might give Chase a second lease on life, one that will bring him satisfaction, instead of a hallow, shallow existence.

I liked the message the author was sending out in this one. The conflicts were not over done and the obstacles the couple faced were easily remedied. Sometimes this is refreshing and the holiday backdrop seemed help create a pleasing comfort to this light and endearing romance.
This one is 4 stars.

Posted on What I'm Reading

Early this week I spotlighted Sweet Cowboy Christmas by Candis Terry. However, I didn't get my review up on Tasty Book Tours Spotlight + Giveaway + Exclusive Twelve Days of Sweet Giveaway: Sweet Cowboy Christmas by Candis Terry. Things happen, but you can still enter the giveaway if you like. Anyway, back to the purpose of the post and that is my thoughts.

This is my first time reading Candis Terry's writing, even though I have a few of her books. (Yes, I have no control when it comes to sales on books). Anyway, I like novella's cause they give you a taste of an author to see if you would be willing to continue on. I happen to like Sweet Cowboy Christmas, because it was a cute sweet read.

You have Chase Morgan who long ago gave up his cowboy boots and decided to try his hand at the cooperate ladder. However, life has a funny way of intervening, which causes him to rethink his life choices. So, he's not sure what to do with his life. He figure it would be a good time to go back to Texas.

Now Faith Walker is the proprietor of Magic Box Guest Ranch, and Chase comes to stay there she automatically assumed he's just a rich guy wanting to play cowboy. I love that she assumed he didn't know anything about being a cowboy. So, she automatically has a chip on her shoulder that he's just a rich playboy. I love that he doesn't correct her, because he has ample opportunity. However he's from he camp action speaks louder than words, so he decides to help out around the ranch. This doesn't paint him as the playboy, but a good decent guy.

The problem with novellas, it's easy to give too much away, especially when it's a good story. I adore Sweet Cowboy Christmas, because you have Chase coming to realize that Christmas isn't all bad. He has a good reason not to care for Christmas, and I can completely understand why. Yet he opens his heart to Christmas thanks to Faith. Faith learns that you can't paint all guys with the same brush. So, if you are looking for a quick Christmas read that give you something to smile about you might consider reading Sweet Cowboy Christmas.

Favorite Lines (In lieu of recent Events I found this funny):
He kissed her again just because he had to. "Does that taste like danger to you?"
"Yes." She pushed him away and headed toward her horse. "A kiss tells me nothing. Women fall in love with mass murderers behind bars all the time. While they might be certifiably crazy, I am not."
He caught up to her just before she set her foot in the stirrup and too her by the arm. "I promise. I'm not Charles Manson or anything like him."

A perfect novella for hopeless romantics and lovers of happily ever afters (like me), for those who love Christmas stories, as well as for those who like cowboy romances. Technically Chase isn't an actual cowboy, but he pulls it off well anyway, since he grew up in rural Texas. He's tall, dark and handsome - what more could a woman wish to find under the Christmas tree? Lucky Faith is about to find out when Chase walks through the double doors of her guest ranch. Lucky girl!
Being a novella, therefore a shorter story, everything goes pretty fast - from the moment they meet to the moment they kiss only a few days have passed. The attraction is very strong and the pull is magnetic from their first encounter, in a sort of "love at first sight" kind of encounter. Although in longer stories this would have been a turn-off because it was definitely too much too soon, since this is a novella I knew from the start things would have to happen very early in the book so I was okay with it.
I liked seeing how it all built into something strong that at some point ended up exploding into a sexy, rather steamy scene that had nothing Sweet about it (pun intended!). After that, things progress quickly toward their happily ever after, and I was sorry to let them go so soon. I found myself wondering (and hoping) if we'd get to see this couple in another book, maybe as secondary characters, so that we would know what happened next.
I liked both characters. Even though at first I wasn't sure what to think of Chase, since he sounded like a shallow and workaholic hotshot, as soon as he stepped into Faith's life, his real personality came to surface and he was definitely hotter than the guy from New York.
Faith is strong and self-confident. I liked how she took care of the ranch on her own and took no BS from Chase. I liked how she wasn't afraid to speak her mind in front of Chase. Even though she's been hurt by a man in the past, she's not whiny or waiting to be rescued. She stood her ground throughout the book, especially when she didn't know Chase well.
If you want to spend a couple of hours enjoying a Texas Christmas, pick up this book. Now that I've discovered the town of Sweet, Texas, I will definitely come back for more.

I don't normally read a lot of novellas, as they are simply too short for me, but when I saw Candis Terry was coming out with a Sweet, Texas one I knew I HAD to read it! I'm so glad I did too! I love this series SO much (it's my favorite adult romance series!) so I was excited to go back and spend some time in Sweet during the Christmas season.

This novella really focuses on Faith and Chase, so we don't see TOO many of our Sweet favorites. That's okay though- the one scene we do see them (with Chase and the Wilder boys at the party) was enough for me!

I really enjoyed reading Faith and Chase's story. While they might not start off on the best of terms, things quickly heat up between them in the short time Chase is staying at the ranch. Chase embodies everything Faith hates- he is a wealthy, successful businessman coming out to the ranch for some 'pampering'. However, as a favor to a friend, she agrees to let him stay. I liked Faith a lot. She doesn't put up with any bull and is really her own woman. She has been burned before by love and that is why she is so abrupt and skeptical of Chase. She sees wealthy businessmen and assumes they are just like her ex. Not too dissuaded, Chase really teaches her the meaning of not judging a book by its cover. While Chase may have been living in New York City, he is no pampered city boy who doesn't know his way around a ranch. Having grown up in Texas himself, but having left due to painful family memories, he really surprises Faith with his laid back, genuine persona.

Chase is also a really great guy. Having had a bit of a health scare, his life has been totally turned upside down and it's not easy starting from scratch to find yourself and your purpose at this point in life. He likes Faith, but he is afraid to get in too deep with her because he's at such a crossroads in his life. She is such a strong personality though and he can't help but gravitate towards her and want to spend time with her.

I liked their romance. It was cute and sweet and gave me plenty of feels. With the addition of the Christmas spirit, it really was a perfect read for this time of year. Lots of kissing, sexy times, sweet getting to know you moments, and a HEA... Sweet Cowboy Christmas was definitely what I needed.

Sweet Cowboy Christmas is perfect for an evening snuggled up with a warm drink. A short comfort read leaving you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.

Chase Morgan's life is thrown into turmoil after a health scare makes him re-think his whole lifestyle including his prestigious career. A decision that would take him back to the life he left behind, to face up to the hurt that drove him away in the first place.

Faith Walker is a determined and generous woman, juggling a successful business pampering the rich and pretentious at her Magic Box Guest Ranch. In addition she organises charitable events to create a perfect Christmas for children and their families less fortunate than herself. It all keeps her busy to distract herself from remembering her past and broken heart.

When Chase arrives at The Magic Box Guest Ranch, the last thing on his mind was women, specifically one woman, who is very presumptive about what kind of man he is. Faith is instantly drawn to the handsome new guest at her ranch. But seeing him in his designer suit reminded her that men like him need to be avoided. Besides he is only staying for 10 days...

I love the easy banter between Chase and Faith, both are fun, likable and well developed, as are all the supporting characters. This is the first book I've read by the author, and will definitely read the other books in the series, as I enjoyed the easy light-hearted writing style, with a hint of sizzle too. If I had to say anything negative then it would be that I wished this was a full length book and not a novella.

I love Candis Terry's "Sweet, Texas" series ... and since book #4 is not being released until next year, I was pretty stoked when I saw that she was releasing a novella in between, just in time for holiday-treat. Since this was a novella, I already knew that the romance might going to a bit of rushed. It is the downside of words limitation, I guess. So I was prepared for a case of quick-fall-in-love situation.

It was quite enjoyable! Faith is a bit bitter against the rich corporate men in the beginning. She has been burned by that type of guy and she immediately thinks of Chase as one of them and treats Chase with prejudice. Little does she know that Chase is actually, well, of the guys (you know, cowboys :p). He grows up at one of the ranches but then decides to leave his hometown after his father died in the young age of 42 years old.

I enjoyed their 'little clash'. So yes, Faith was a bit annoying with her attitude, but I could understand that (sometimes I hate snobs too!) and it was actually fun to read how Chase kept 'ruining' Faith's initial perceptions of him. It was feel-good and just the right kind of holiday-story ... sure, yes, everything moved rather quick, but again, this was a novella! So manage your expectations ^^

PS: Just a quick note ... Chase Morgan is Abby Morgan's cousin (she is the heroine of book #2) while Faith Walker is Paige Walker's sister (she's the heroine from the novella, Home Sweet Home: A Sweet, Texas Novella, who marries Aiden)

This sweet novella shows how not to judge a book by its cover. I don't mean the actual book cover, lol, but I mean stereotyping a person based on what he/she is wearing.

I enjoyed Chase and Faith's story more than I thought I would. I wasn't sure how a country boy turned city slicker would rediscover his love for the land when he'd been away from his roots for so long. And I also wasn't sure how Faith would overcome her past to see Chase as Chase, not as the man who'd hurt her. It took a little bit of time, some conversations, and a few kisses for these two to see how well they could be together.

I liked that Ms. Terry made Chase imperfect. On the outside, he was as gorgeous as a model. Inside though, it was a different story. A health scare prompted his leaving NYC for calmer pastures, and what he found was Faith and her ranch Magic Box Guest Ranch. They tug at each others' facade until they reveal what lies beneath: hearts of gold and a love that overwhelms, and heals, them both.

This is a terrific story for anyone really. It's short but it doesn't leave the reader feeling like something's missing. Well-developed characters, well-written scenes, and an even pace helped to make this book an enjoyable read for me. Ms. Terry's latest addition to her Sweet, Texas, series can be read as a standalone and will warm your heart and soul with its messages of opening your heart to love and to see the person behind the clothes.
