Of Withering Dreams

Rate this book
Enchanting, atmospheric, and addictive—Of Withering Dreams is a steamy dark fantasy romance set in a dying world where dreams, magic, and corruption intertwine. Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Jennifer L. Armentrout, and LJ Andrews.

DREAMS DECAY.

The Dormancy was meant to be the mortal realm’s salvation. From autumn to spring, citizens must enter a magically induced slumber to conserve dwindling resources. The divine Ancients, who gifted mortals magic, disappeared long ago, leaving humanity at the mercy of the Elders. These powerful and elusive oligarchs have one motto: "Through Dormancy, we blossom!" Yet, this seems more like a cruel jest than a promise.

For Seryn, this Dormancy will change everything. Except for the little details… you know, like her realm progressively decaying and people vanishing. As the threads of reality unravel, she soon discovers her hidden identity as a Druik, one who wields magic. But her abilities are… unusual. Unpredictable.

DESIRES BLOOM.

While her inherited powers bloom, so do her desires for her charming best friend, Kaden. She wouldn’t dream of risking their friendship, but the Fates can’t be bothered with mortal dreams.

DESTINY UNRAVELS.

Navigating a treacherous path where dreams and nightmares blur, Seryn must confront haunting truths. Her newfound courage and magic might be the key to saving her realm, but will they be enough when even dreams can wither into oblivion?

Rowyn Adelaide is an insatiable romance reader, advanced practice MSW social worker, and the author of the Fate of the Embered series. Her debut novel, Of Withering Dreams, launched the dark fantasy romance series with a haunting blend of passion and peril. Her work fuses atmospheric world-building with emotionally driven romance, often exploring themes of transformation, angst, and resilience. When she’s not writing or devouring stacks of romance novels, she’s usually globe-trotting, rocking out at concerts, counting down to spooky season, or singing karaoke (very poorly). This book is an amazing debut novel by Rowyn Adelaide that just sticks in your mind in the best possible way. The world building, characters and story are mesmerizing and almost poetic as you read. Its so very easy to imagine this story as it unfolds yet you do not feel prepared for the twists as they come. I honestly was not sure who to trust, who to root for and if my mind/heart was playing tricks on me as I read this book. Loved every moment of this read. The story also comes with a soundtrack which is just ... so fun. I can not wait to return to this world with book 2.

Favorite Quote: "If you are asking for me to unwrap the present I've been waiting for all damn night, I wouldn't dream of doing anything else."

Lyrically written, so much detail went into setting a scene and makes you feel like you’re actually there. The characters are so easy to become attached to. I adore Breena, and of course the main trio. I was Team Kaden going into the book, but by the end I was 100% Team Gavrel. I can’t wait until we find out more about what happened between him and Seryn.I loved that this book steered away from the typical vampire/fae side of Romantasy, and is super unique in its plot.

When I set this book down to go to bed, heard it calling my name from across the room!
I found this book so engaging, I flew through it so fast. It was so addicting, the pacing was meticulously set and there was never a dull moment. Being a fantasy, fast pacing can sometimes feel really intimidating but this book was done to perfection! Elemental magic systems are top tier and this one didn't disappoint. The story was equally character and plot driven so brilliantly.
Knowing this is the debut novel for this author has me so excited to see what else she has in store for us! I will be devouring everything she writes because I have no doubt she will be an auto-buy author for me!

*Update below
Easily 5 stars. Just finished, and I'm speechless. I cannot, CAN NOT comprehend this is a debut novel!!! It is just so beautifully written and so freaking good. I'll write a proper review soon when I make it out of my mind blown state... like someone emerging from the Dormancy. Mind. Blown. So. Good.

Now that I've had time to process, here's my review.

Of Withering Dreams is one of those books that you wish you could experience for the first time all over again. Rowyn Adelaide has written a debut that left an indelible mark on me, and I predict she is an author to watch, with a big future ahead.

Her writing is sublime, loaded with beautifully vivid descriptions. The world building and plot development hits exactly the right balance of detail and complexity without getting lost in it. And the spice?? It is a perfect and satisfying complement to the story.

The characters are all believable and layered, and the reader can't help but fall for them. I especially loved the FMC, Seryn, and her not one, but TWO gorgeous MMCs, brothers Kaden and Gavrel. Both are worthy of fan-girling over. My heart firmly rests with one, but you'll have to read and decide for yourself!

I loved the range of intricate characters integral to the story, some I adored, and some I loathed..well, one in particular. If an author elicits such strong reactions to characters from me, they've crafted them well, and Rowyn's are one hundred per cent on the mark.

Finally, back to the story and my favourite characters, the sacrifices made are heartbreaking and have stayed with me long after finishing the book. I am desperate to read the next book. Thank you, Rowyn, for writing a beautifully compelling story that I am now totally invested in!

✨Of Withering Dreams✨

What a mind blowing read, this kept me curious and guessing the whole way through!

In Rowyn’s first book, OWD, we find ourselves in a world where mortals and druiks (those with magic) must go into dormancy (hibernation) for 6 months out of the year. Their world is dying. They remember nothing each time they wake. There are secrets abounding.

When our gentle FMC, Seryn, and her chosen childhood family fall into this year’s dormancy, Seryn wakes to lands that hold just as many secrets as answers. Her, our two male love interests (and brothers), her sister and a newcomer must navigate this dreamworld to best survive in their ethereal form. Gavrel, our elder brother and super broody protector, is ever present when Seryn needs him but there’s something else going on. Kaden, Seryn’s best friend and resident golden retriever brings the banter alongside the rest of our lovable crew, but he also brings the temper. I did struggle a bit with the love triangle and I see where Rowyn is going, but slowly grew disconnected as we moved deeper into the story.

OWD is full of pining, tension, mystery, spice, trials, and quips. The story is unique, written with beautiful prose, and I enjoyed all the little prompts as I look back. I’m eager to see what transpires in book two. I have my theories and desires! And I’m stoked I got one right!

Tropes you may find in OWD are he washes her hair, love triangle-ish, a broody & grumpy MMC and a golden retriever MMC, medium high spice for small frequent scenes, best friends to lovers, trials and quests, and an ending that has me so impatient for book two.

Rowyn, thank you so much for this gifted arc. It was such a treat! Like salted honey 😉.

'Of Withering Dreams' is an excellent read by a very talented indie author! It's got everything you could want in a dark fantasy romance including a creatively designed and magical dystopian world, the exciting and flirty build-up of friends to lovers, lots of witty banter and relatable characters, and of course the steamy stuff that is tastefully done!

While it is a fantasy world, there are common themes throughout that resonate with the reality of the world we actually live in. It keeps you drawing parallels between the fantasy of this story and our own reality in regards to power in the hands of the corrupt and what they're capable of. You can't help but feel the rage and therefore cheer on the main character as she harnesses her feminine power and rises to the occasion to push back against the corrupted oligarchs.

I particularly enjoyed this story because of the twists and turns it takes, without being predictable, and the character development is done in an organic but thorough way, that you truly understand and connect with the various personalities. Additionally, I often struggle to get through books when it feels like too much effort to read and absorb because of distractions in flow, word choice, etc. This book was NOT one of them- I was able to get effortlessly sucked in to the story because it is incredibly well-written! I highly recommend this book, and I'm really looking forward to continuing this series and seeing how the rest of the story unfolds!

✨ARC Edition✨
You know an author has truly woven their magic when you find yourself swept away by visceral emotions. In reading Of Withering Dreams, I was transported into the very hearts and souls of its characters, feeling their physical and emotional journeys resonate within me. Rowyn Adelaide infuses her prose with a lyrical grace, particularly in her vivid descriptions. Her writing is a tapestry rich with depth, a refreshing departure from the cookie-cutter narratives that often pervade the romantasy genre favored on the platforms of Bookstagram and Booktok.

The tale unfolds with an original magic system and story. While it includes familiar tropes—friends to lovers, brotherly rivalries, longing hearts, awakened powers, hidden family secrets, and lost memories—each is masterfully executed, leaving a lasting impact. I found myself equally enchanted by the supporting characters, whose complexities drew me in, making me as emotionally invested in their fates as those of the protagonists.

If I were to offer a gentle critique, it would be my wish for less emphasis on Seryn’s stomach acid, which is mentioned rather frequently. Yet, I recognize the significance of her digestive tribulations in the narrative. While I relish delving into a character's inner world, sharing their nausea is not a journey I cherish. Nonetheless, let’s be candid: if the writing stirs you physically, then hats off to that gifted writer.

Because this story so profoundly affected my senses and emotions, I’m seeking reparations for the therapy I needed after finishing this book. The only therapy that is going to work is THE SEQUEL.

⭐⭐ARC REVIEW⭐⭐

Y'all add this to your TBR ASAP. I knew this was gonna be a 5-star read very early on. This is the first book of the Fate of the Embered series. Of Withering Dreams is a steamy dark fantasy romance set in a dying world where dreams, magic, and corruption intertwine.

This book had me hooked i Cannot wait till Book 2 and only hope i am fortunate enough to be a ARC reader for her second book.

The story follows Seryn, Kaden, and Gavrel—whose complex relationships and individual journeys drive the story forward. The character development is particularly noteworthy, with each protagonist carrying their own weight in the narrative while contributing to the larger tapestry of the plot. The romantic elements are woven skillfully into the broader fantasy narrative, creating a balance that should satisfy readers of both genres. What sets this book apart is Adelaide's ability to maintain tension throughout the story. For a debut, it's an extraordinary achievement, showcasing the author's talent for crafting a tale that is both epic in scope and emotionally intimate. The pacing is well-managed, with enough quiet moments between the action to let both characters and readers catch their breath. However, readers should note that this is a dark fantasy romance, with emphasis on both "dark" and "romance."

This story contains mature themes and steamy elements that may not be suitable for all audiences. The world Adelaide has created is one of corruption and danger, and she doesn't shy away from exploring its darker aspects. The novel's strengths lie in its imaginative world-building, character dynamics, and the author's distinctive writing style. The magic system is fresh and intriguing, while the corruption-laden world provides a perfect backdrop for both personal and political intrigue. If there's any weakness, it might be that some readers could find the extensive world-building initially overwhelming, though patient readers will be rewarded with a rich and fully realized fantasy setting. "Of Withering Dreams" marks an impressive start to the Fate of the Embered series.

So much attention given to world building in this book. I cannot praise that enough. The book is full of adventure and trials. The FMC is witty, strong, and brave. The book ends on a cliff hanger leaving you anxiously awaiting the second book. This book doesn’t lull with the story, there’s always something exciting going on. This is a wonderful debut novel for Rowyn and I look forward to seeing what happens next!

Of Withering Dreams really felt like discovering Prythian for the first time. The descriptions were so vivid, I forgot I was reading and could see the entire book playing out in my head. It was truly an immersive experience and had life not gotten in the way, I could have read this in one sitting.

I was immediately pulled in to the plot and constantly on the edge of my seat. Seryn sneaks around to places she shouldn't and learns the elders are not at all what they seem. Sweet Kaden and Seryn are desperately trying to find their footing going from best friends to lovers, while Gavrel hopelessly watches from the sidelines. The Magic system of Embers is refreshing. The citizens are made to wear clothing representative of their manifested Ember, and it reminded me of how everyone in The Giver was separated out by their purpose for the town. Trials and Competitions abound in this book allowing the gang to interact with a myriad of mythical creatures. Lore drops are sufficiently spaced throughout the book and did not feel overwhelming.

Trickery is afoot in Midst Fall and I already have theories about what is really going on! Breena is the absolute best BFF and always on time with the comedic relief! Of Withering Dreams is a BANGER of a debut and I am anxiouosly awaiting the second installment of the Fate of the Embered Series!

" I didn't realize then that nightmares could be mistaken for dreams."

" Don't apologize for feeling."

" The good thing about breathing... I could do it anywhere, even while snooping, scheming, stabbing - or whatever one did to topple unjust tyrants."

"It was nice knowing you before I lost my marbles." (ifykyk)

I've never highlighted so many things in a book before. Engaging. Addicting. Seriously Impressive. Insanely descriptive. I forced myself to read this slowly and sit with it because 1. I didn't want to miss anything (I could picture everything that was being described.) and 2. The world building is top tier and just needed to just.. sit in the brilliance.

I love the characters and creatures (main and secondary). Minus the fucking.. haha.

Debut author who? ROWYN ADELAIDE IS WHO! I still can't believe that. Rowyn is one to watch out for, I promise.

I am honored to be part of the Wicked Dreams ARC team and I'm at the edge of my seat for Book 2! I received an ARC for my honest review.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK! 👏👏👏
From the minute I read the dedication I was hooked! This book just kept getting better and better.
I seriously didn't wanna put it down it was a struggle to do literally anything and not just pull my kindle out.

Rowyn does a superb job of painting a picture with her world building. I was fully immersed into this world. The descriptions and creativity made me feel like I was right in there with the characters. I loved all of them and their witty banter and creative cursing that had me laughing out loud throughout this book! I'm still reeling from this book and I can't wait for the second one! The writing was seriously phenomenal and the spice was *chefs kiss 🤌*

Happy to make Of Withering Dreams my first 5 star read of the year!! 🤗

Of Withering Dreams absolutely blew me away! From the very first page, I was hooked. The world-building is phenomenal—this dying realm where dreams and magic intertwine creates such an eerie, atmospheric setting. Seryn is a captivating protagonist, and I loved watching her grow as she navigates her powers, friendships, and an intense romance with Kaden. Their chemistry is off the charts!

The magic system is unpredictable and adds so much depth to the story. The romance is steamy, messy, and emotionally charged in all the right ways, and the twists kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t put it down, and now I’m completely obsessed.

If you love dark fantasy with passion, intrigue, and a touch of danger, this book is an absolute must-read. I can’t wait for the next one! 😍 5 ⭐️All the way!

I laughed at the cursing in this book 😆, "fecking shite on a twig". I was hooked from the beginning, learning about Seryn, her friends and family.....Kaden and Gavrel...ohhhh Gavrel 🔥. I loooove Gavrel.
Anywhooo, you learn of the dormancy, their withering world and embers.

There was plenty of twists and turns, keeping you on your toes. The world building was wonderful, it is such a unique world and magic system! I did not want to put it down, hence why I read it in 2 days 😆.

I highly recommend this book and cannot wait for book 2!! I need to know more! 5 stars! I will definitely be painting some scenes from this book! As always, my art speaks for itself, better than my words haha.

Rowyn creates a world that is captivating. You can easily see the beauty and the danger that is present, but it is like you can feel it as well. Your heart will feel for these characters. Throughout the dormancy (a time of sleep and their spirts are astral projected into a new realm) that everyone is forced to undergo, we get to meet many characters. Friendships are formed, a love triangle revealed, enemies are discovered, and heartbreaks are inevitable. The magic that is discovered during the dormancy is something else entirely. Learning to wield their magic and defend themselves is something of a struggle for some and easy for others. I loved my journey through this world and can’t wait to see where Rowyn will be taking us next now that the dormancy is over.

The author has quite a way with words. Everything about the writing and the world building of this book was gorgeous. Adelaide did a phenomenal job with her descriptions, I can always imagine things in my head, but she made it effortless to do so. This was quite a unique twist in the fantasy/romantasy genre. Instead of High Fae or any of the other tropes, we have a world with magic, but the residents have to sleep half their life away to give back to the Elders. During that time, they are in Dormancy pods, when they awaken, they do not recall the Dormancy, however their bodies are in the Pod while they are in sort of a dream-like land where the Elders live.

We learn a lot about Seryn's past while she uncovers secrets about the Elders, their motives, and what might have happened to her mother. Seryn also is in a love triangle or sorts, which is a trope I can never hate (although it is not typically beloved). Seryn has feelings for her best friend, Kaden, but also has a lurking interest with his older brother Gavrel. Gavrel is much more mysterious, it is hard to understand his motives, especially because he is in a rank where he remembers all the Dormancy's. The ending of the book set up really well for a next one. I have certainly chosen my side in the love triangle, you will have to pick yours as well. This book was marketed as being for lovers of some authors I do enjoy, however, I would say this writing is much better than some of theirs and much better than a lot of Kindle Unlimited books. Nothing about this felt juvenile and the author truly did an amazing job creating a unique and interesting world. Can't wait for the next!

First off, I need to say that I was literally consumed by this story- Rowyn's writing style really intrigued me & I had a hard time putting this one down! So so happy I got to read this & I can not wait for everyone to be able to read this one 🙌

In this story we get to follow Seryn & her childhood bestfriends/chosen family as they go into the year's dormancy but wake in lands that aren't what they're used to which are filled with secrets.

Instantly I fell in love with the world Rowyn created, there is so much detail & let me tell you about the emotionsss, by the Ancients- I felt literally everything that the characters were feeling. The relationships between all the characters was so wholesome too, even the "side" characters had me laughing, crying, screaming- The banter is definitely bantering 😂 They are so easy to become attached to & I love that in a book!
Also the magic system in this is super unique!

Oh and I neeed to talk about the two love interests; Kaden- the golden retriever mmc & Gavrel- the protective broody mmc(btw they're brothers), because wow the tensionnnn & I definitely blushed haaard 😍 and yes the spice was spicyyyyyy

Overall, this has everything I love in a dark fantasy romance! Filled with twists, trials, suspense that left me gasping, it's action packed, sooo much tension & it was beautifully written!
I am so excited for book 2 because that ending left me needing more asap 🤯

I did not stay up until midnight on a work night to finish this book…during an ice storm….and half the time without power. I didn’t.

OF COURSE I DID.

Where do I begin. WOW. JUST WOW. I.LOVED.THIS.BOOK. This is a debut novel? I would have never guessed. The plot was unique and interesting, with unexpected developments that keep you guessing. It was so captivating and it held my attention, keeping me hooked from start to finish. The worldbuilding and imagery in this book is unreal. It is just incredible and done so beautifully. It made it so easy to create this world in my head. It was like I was there in person witnessing it all, like a movie in my head.

The analogies to explain or compare something you might not be familiar with were amazing and left no confusion. The storytelling and writing style was one of the best I’ve read so far. Finally! An adult book written for adult readers and actually adult, no whining or childish dialogue. Relatable and unforgettable characters with real thoughts and feelings that made you feel right a long with them. I was invested in every character, whether an ally or an enemy. I loved all the relationships and the communication between everyone (for the most part). They acted like adults and talked through things, instead of blowing up before knowing all of the facts or making assumptions. Actual real-life situations and/or positions we put ourselves in and the heartbreak we sometimes do to ourselves, and others. The emotional impact was spot on. I had all the feels.

I was trying to come to so many conclusions on my own, trying to imagine was going to happen next. Some came to fruition, some were wrong and I was happy for it. I don’t want to leave any spoilers, so I will leave those conclusions out, because some haven’t been revealed yet – maybe in the next book?!

Thank you so much to Rowyn for an ARC and allowing me to take part in this adventure!

Their world is dying and they remember nothing when they wake, as they sleep half the year during the Dormancy. When Seryn discovers her hidden identity, she also realizes her abilities are unusual and unpredictable. Journey with the characters as dreams and nightmares blur and ancient ways are questioned.

There is an immense amount of description throughout the entire book. The world building is perfection and was the highlight of reading. I had a hard time getting into the book for the first half and it wasn’t toward the end that I felt a connection to what was going on. I always recommend reading the book for yourself to decide how you take to the plot.

The cover of this book absolutely captivating with the dreamlike wisps. This is a debut novel and book 1 of the Fate of Embered) and is a dark romantasy in this world of dreams. There are supernatural elements, battles and betrayals and a friends to lovers/lovers triangle.

Thank you to author, Rowyn Adelaide, for the opportunity to read this book. I received an epub and am leaving my review voluntarily.

This book was written so beautifully. I felt like I was reading poetry.

I really enjoyed the concept of this book and it made me think of the matrix in the sense that six months out of the year everyone has to go to "sleep" and no one remembers anything after the dormancy is over.

In only 36 chapters, Rowyn was able to fit a whole lot of story and tie it all together without leaving any frustrating cliffhangers.

I can't wait to see Seryn in her badass era to dismantle the corruption!!!

P.s. team Gavrel forever

THANK YOU Rowyn Adelaide for this ARC: Of Withering Dreams - how gorgeous is that cover?! Releases March 20th!

In Midst Falls, the land is experiencing a decay known as The Withering. Under the leadership of the Elders, they have been granted provisions by the Ancients to have the citizens of Midst Falls undergo Dormancy – a period of 6 months per year that the people enter sleep pods to preserve resources. Those with power (know as Ember) who inhabit Midst Falls are supposed to register with the Elders so that they can be of service to the realm. Anyone who refuses to disclose their ember will be put to death (culled). While this has been normalcy for all of Seryn’s life, the imbalance of power does not sit right with her nor her friends, and they begin to peel back the layers of their dreamlike existence…

In her debut novel, the magic system that Rowyn Adelaide has created is so unique. There’s elemental magic which is easy to follow, but then there’s an element of dreams and memories woven throughout that make it so much more complex. The writing is flowery and poetic – there’s not a description for one single thing left out.

I am very impressed with the writing, and I can see the potential for where the story is heading. I am someone who really needs to connect with characters regardless of genre, and while the writing was dreamy, the character development and dialogue fell flat for me. Definitely a me problem!! It reminded me of other dark fantasies I’ve read that are wildly popular but weren’t my favorite.

This book would be perfect for fans of The Scholomance Series or The Shepherd King Duology.

The premise of Rowyn Adelaide's book, Of Withering Dreams, is what initially drew me in. The idea of humanity living in a slowly decaying land, forced into slumber for extended periods of time each passing year, just to preserve any withering resources. And why? Because the Elders deemed it so. The Elders, the ruling class, the ones making all the decisions and keeping all the secrets. What is the true reason behind Dormancy? And what happens to your mind and soul during the slumber?

Rowyn has painted a vivid picture of a post-apocalyptic world ruled by few, full of secrets, mysteries, and hidden truths. This is the world Seryn, the FMC, lives in. So, when the time comes for yet another Dormancy, we are shown what actually happens. Seryn, with the help of her sister, best friend Kaden, his brooding older brother Gavrel, and other friends, embarks on a perilous journey to uncover the secrets of the Elders. It is a journey filled with dangers and deadly trials, all hidden under the veil of opulence and festivities.

In a world where provisions seem to be the main currency, we discover that the deadliest secrets are memories—memories of past times, past loves and friendships, past hardships and sorrows. Memories are true power.

In the midst of it all is, as always, love. Love and mixed emotions Seryn feels towards both brothers. But are those emotions truly so intertwined? While it may seem like Rowyn has set up a love triangle trap, I'd say there is much more to the story, and I think you will enjoy exploring all the possibilities as I did.

Rowyn has done a great job setting up the beginnings of a story while still uncovering some of the secrets and giving us glimpses of what we may see in future instalments. I love being one of Rowyn's ARC readers and having experienced this story in advance. Of Withering Dreams, Book 1 in the Fate of the Embered Book series, will be released on March 20th, and I urge you to give this story a chance; it deserves it.

This artfully crafted story created such a unique experience! Rowyn Adelaide has mastered the skill of being able to bring words on a page to life. Her descriptions are so vivid and elegant that it made for a beautifully poetic journey.

The initial concept of Dormancy was super interesting, and as I read further it morphed into what I would call wonder. I was constantly on the edge of my seat wondering “what’s gonna happen next?”. What does this mean? How is this gonna play out later? Are these people who they say they are? Why is Gavrel so hot? You know, very important questions😂 Overall, it was a deeply convoluted story with layers of secrets that you’ll be dying to uncover.

The chemistry between Kaden and Seryn was indisputable. Kaden’s flirty demeanor was truly blush-inducing.🤭 He and Seryn are both such a ray of sunshine and make a great team. Seryn is also very curious, and considering her circumstances, past and present, she has a right to be🤷🏽‍♀️ So it was easy to say “just one more chapter” to see what answers she could find.

I consider well written side characters to be pretty important, and I thought it was done well in this book! I definitely have some that I love….and I also have one that I hope gets thrown off a cliff :) Wether I like a character or not, it still takes skill to be able to get a reader to feel such strong emotions for a character.

Overall, I LOVED this, the ending had me shook, and I am definitely still Team Gavrel. I could probably write a whole review based off him alone, but I’ll save a thirst post for him for later😉

I received the ARC for OWD from the author, any opinions are my own.

There are a handful of books that I have read in my life that cause me to pause and absorb, this is one of them.

How Rowyn uses words to describe a scene is the equivalent of a painter putting a brush to canvas. Mesmerizing, breathtaking, and astounding to behold as it takes shape. I consider myself so fortunate to be here at the beginning of her journey…Rowyn Adelaide is one to watch. I’m already planning my shelf shrine for all her works.

To the book. The characters are layered, relatable, and engrossing…MC’s and SC’s alike. The story is well thought out and engrossing, you want to read it greedily but also savour it haltingly so that it doesn’t end.

Writing is an art form, many forget this. But this book and its pending sequels will remind you of this. Art, nothing else needs to be said. It is art.

Absolutely *𝘰𝘣𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥* with 𝑶𝒇 𝑾𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑫𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎𝒔 by Rowyn Adelaide. This book is pure magic—lush, haunting, and totally gut-wrenching in the best way. The world-building is so vivid it feels like you’re walking through the mists yourself, and the characters? Ugh, they’re heartbreakingly real. Every twist kept me on edge, and by the end, I was straight-up 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥. It is an absolute gem of a debut novel! I couldn’t put it down—seriously, I lost track of time with this one. It’s fast-paced, action-packed, and has just the right amount of romance to keep you hooked without overloading the story.

The elemental magic in this world is so unique and vividly described that it feels like you’re right there. And the writing? Stunning. Adelaide has a way of painting scenes that pull you into every battle, heartbreak, and quiet moment.

Let’s be real…GAVREL. IS. EVERYTHING. From the very beginning I’ve been *Team Gavrel* all the way and I will die on this hill! The broody, complicated layers, the *longing*...every scene with him had me screaming. He’s complicated, intense, and just the kind of character you can’t help but root for.

And that ending?? RUDE. It’s the kind of ending that leaves you clutching the book, staring into space, and whispering, “don’t leave me hanging!” I’m over here screaming because I need the next book 𝘺𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘥𝘢𝘺.

If you’re into fantasy that shreds your soul and wrecks you in the best possible way while making you fall in love with every moment, this is your sign to read it.

Thank you to Rowyn for allowing me the opportunity to be a Wicked Dreamer and read this ARC.

This book is so outstanding it is hard to believe that it is a debut novel from Rowyn Adelaide.

What stuck out to me the most are Rowyn’s descriptions of everything throughout the book. She made the descriptions so relatable and easy to follow that I could constantly picture everything that was going on. Every move, every sound, every smell, every look, every scene, all of it.

Then we have the pacing of the book. It was paced in a way that you are constantly engaged and information is revealed to you at just the right time, bringing shock and fun plots twists that I really didn’t expect.

The characters are unbelievable. You not only fall in love with the main characters (I may have fallen in love with one more than others but I’ll keep that to myself for now 😉) but you fall in love with the “side” characters as well. The wholesomeness of some of the relationships built had me tearing up at the end.

Rowyn has built a world that has so much potential for future books and I already can’t stop thinking about what might happen in book 2.

Add this to your TBR asap and make sure you are ready to read it when it comes out on 03.20.2025.

Favorite Quotes:
“At this moment, I know you are incapable of seeing how extraordinary you are. But I’ll believe it enough for the both of us until you come around.”

“Isn’t it incredible that something so vulnerable can survive—can find the strength to grow—even when the world is crumbling around it?”

Thank you, Rowyn, for allowing me the opportunity to read this as an ARC!

Welcome to the world where dreams decay, desires bloom, and destiny unravels! Rowyn paints a vivid picture through her words to take you into this dark romantasy (it feels like you're awake in a dream when you read this), where we get to entangle ourselves in unique magic, trials, and a love triangle-ish between brothers. Trust me when I say you don't know who you'd prefer too. There is spice sprinkled throughout as well!

Once you start this book, it'll be so hard to put down as you're thrown into the adventure Seryn finds on the other side of the Dormancy. On top of figuring out her magic and possible corruption, the tension between her and Kaden (and Gavrel) is top notch and full of yearning. Added to that, her and her friends decide to enter the Trials for a chance to win extra food rations for their respective towns once they awaken.

This book follows Seryn's POV only, so it's like you're experiencing everything she is in real time, and that you're right there with her. You have to read to see what destiny has planned for her and her powers.

I can't believe this is a debut novel for Rowyn! Of Withering Dreams is book 1 in a series, and I can't wait for book 2 and to see what else she comes up with. Her writing is so beautiful and this book really deserves to be on the big screen.
