After a long time I picked up a book of folktales and it took me back to my childhood days. These short stories are full of magic, Japanese tradition & culture, their beliefs and way of life in the olden days.

It can be read and enjoyed by children as well as adults. Reading it was such a refreshing break from all the other reading and the hustle and bustle of life.

It’s a cute little book. Collection of 12 tales which are fun to read. Like true folklores, they provide a backdrop to few(probably famous) festivals, have some moral teachings to them; there is music, myths, and legends.
One thing I noticed is the importance of nature in these tales. Trees and animals were humanised, and they helped people do greater good, to the society they were living in. There was a balance between the role of nature and humans.

A collection of short stories collected and translated by Hema Pande. They make for very easy reading as it is something that a child can easily pick up and enjoy, which is evidently the target demographic of this book, however, it can make for casual reading in case you want to while away some time.

Found it a sweet light read. Great storytelling made up for the short length of the book. About a dozen tales in the book and most of them are engaging enough to keep the readers glued till the end. Get ready to meet with characters that will linger on in your memory for quite some time :)
