* this is a full length novel approximately 350 pages in length.
An ancient vampire has hunted Jordyn Leahy since she was a child, haunting her sleep, demanding her soul and her flesh. After decades of silence, he has returned to ruthlessly claim the woman who once denied him.
Bold and arrogant, loner Eric Hunter allows himself to care about nothing, except his missing brother. He will not stop until he finds him, even if it means teaming up with the bold, sensual woman who awakens in him the dark cravings he has denied for so long.
As the deep of night closes in, Jordyn and Eric must fight the battle of their lives, in a quest for survival in a world where hunger rules, desire destroys, and eternity means no second chances.

A life-long reader, she began crafting stories at age ten, but didn't realize it was her dream until she was an adult.
Once the light dawned, she immediately left behind "work" as the world defines it and went to "work" as she defines it, which means getting up every morning with a smile in her heart so she can spend the day doing that which makes her spirit sing.
Stephanie believes in learning to listen to your heart in order to figure out what your dreams are, and then opening yourself to the inspiration that will direct you there. She believes we all deserve the right to enjoy life, and for the ride to be as easy as we want it to be, and that we all should accept nothing less than making our dreams come true.
Stephanie lives in New England, and spends every day doing her best to fill it with people, observations and activities that uplift her soul, which include writing, tennis, dancing, friends, and her amazing family.
I had to skim-read a lot of this book, after losing interest at around 50 pages in. It needed far more character development and a lighter hand when it came to the romance.
The book seems to be aiming towards a 'will they or won't they end up together?' vibe, but ends up coming across as 'can these two get a room?'
I mean, we've only met both of these characters - but only 15 pages in and they're already obsessing over each other. And by the time Chapter 5 rolls around, they've shared 'mind blowing' kisses twice.
The concepts aren't introduced well, either. They're squeezed into a flashback-esque retelling of the female protagonist's dark past. New vocab is practically shoved at readers, along with way too much backstory, that fills up nearly a whole chapter.
I mean, the protagonist's listener may have a drink in their hand during her re-telling, but I don't! Perhaps she could have left that long and winding talk for some other time...like, when we'd actually gotten halfway into the book, or had sampled some of the actual plot.
Speaking of which, there seems to be a lot of plots thrown together.
Missing brother, dark past, long-triangle-but-not-really drama, resurrecting people (details unclear), killing people, childhood issues, girl returns to hometown after many years, etc, etc, etc. They not woven together with care, but are squeezed together - fighting for 'page time'. It's hard to focus on a book when you can't clearly understand where it's going.
Overall, I won't lie, I was a little disappointed with this book. If the author does continue this into a full series, hopefully the concepts will be well structured and expanded upon, so as to give the story the ability to draw the reader's attention better.
This was an amazing read!! It had a nice refreshing story line that is unlike anything I've read before. The characters and their history gets you hooked and will have you on the edge of your seat for most of the book. Definitely worth the read!!!
Another fabulous series by Stephanie Rowe. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I liked the glimpse I saw of the couple in the Order of the Blade books, so I was glad to see them get their own book.
As usual, this book was well-written and the storyline kept me interested. I liked Jordyn and Eric as a couple. I also found the subsidiary characters interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing more of them, especially Tristan.
I was so disappointed when I got to the end and realized that the second book isn't available yet. I'll definitely be buying the next book in this series.
Jordan and Eric are amazing! I Loved their chemistry....This was a fast paced, never let your guard down, what the heck just happened kind of book! I want more about them and Tristan, I need to know what happens to him...
Rowe has delivered yet again a world of unearthly possibilities, magic and steamy lovin. This book is a must read for anyone that has a love for vampires and is looking for a new twist.
My favorite part about this book was Jordyn. She was hilarious! She is so matter a fact and witty that most of what she says is quite funny. I haven't read dialogue like this ever and it was really entertaining. I loved that she knew exactly the kind of woman she was and what she could deal with in life. She had lots of tragedy in her in life but she still has hope in her heart. This lady is one stubborn and determined woman when she sets her mind to something and it was greatly appreciated as a reader to see such vigilance.
One of my favorite lines in the book that I thought was so funny:
He glanced outside at the ground. He could smell how rich it was, almost as if it were calling to him. Jordyn followed his glance. "Dirt? You want dirt?"
I just thought this was so hilarious!
I didn't give it five stars because there were many parts in the book that were slow because they were both trying to figure out their own troubles and trying to get through turmoil with both of their crazy lives. I also thought there could have been more background story to Tristan and Jordyn's friendship. They had to be more close than meeting at a graveyard if he decided she needed to live multiple times. I needed more background story on the villain, how did he get so powerful? Was he always powerful? How did he get turned? Will we find any of this out in the next book?
I loved this book! It's a spin off of the Calydon series but you won't be confused if you haven't read them yet (I highly recommend reading them though cuz they're pretty awesome too). Eric and Jordyn meet in the jungles of South America where Jordyn goes to rescue her friend Rhiannon and Eric has joined up with Rohan and his team of elite Calydons. Eric is trying to find clues about his twin brother, Tristan, who has been missing for over a year. The two meet up in Jordyn's hometown, a place she hasn't been since her father's death. Eric knows that there is some kind of bond between Jordyn and Tristan because his brother resurrected her 8 times; Eric knows that Tris would only do that for someone he really cares about. Jordyn has been burned in the past by men and Eric portrays himself as a playboy that is only in it to get off. Awesome book and I can't wait for the next one in this new series!!
Ever since Rowe introduced us to Jordyn Leahy and Eric Hunter in DARKNESS POSSESSED, I’ve wanted to read their story. They were a side story in that book and in NOT QUITE DEAD they live up to every bit of promise of a hot, suspense-filled, uniquely told, paranormal masterpiece. Rowe has added her own twist to being paranormal especially what it means to be a vampire. It’s so refreshing. True to all Rowe’s books, the love story is touching and HOT. Jordyn and Eric fight their attraction as hard as possible but their destiny cannot be avoided. Rowe’s villains are well written. Without providing any spoilers, let me say the characters were not predictable and surprising twists made the story more thrilling. I’m anxious for the next installment in this highly imaginative series.
Stephanie Rowe's new book is an amazing read. She transitioned characters we met previously in her Order of the Blade series to this new genre.
Jordyn and Eric are back in this story to find his brother. She is a tough as nails heroine and Eric is a cocky sexy pain in her ass. In their search for Erid's brother, they have to battle an ancient evil and their own demons to survive.
As usual, Stephanie Rowe incorporates all the elements we love with her books, there is action, humor and romance. Her long time fans will love this book as I did. New readers will fall in love with Jordan and Eric.
This was a very good read! I loved this story from beginning to in! We were introduced to Jordyn and Eric in the latest book of thr order of the blade series. This spin off was everything. It gave us their past and how it haunted them in the present and made them who they are today. This story had a different spin on vampires which I loved. Stephanie Rowe has easily brine one of my favorite authors!
so I gotta say this was a nice surprise I bought this book last night n less than 24 hours later im done with it thats how much I couldn't put it down! I liked eric n jordyn when they were first introduced in shadows of darkness I was as intrigued with them as I was with the main characters in the story but I completely fell in love with them here along with tristan oh n btw my prediction for the next book is tristan n skye!
In this book the Female Lead is recycled from a prevous Claydon book where the shiva bond resulted in death for her mate. Now, she gets a second chance with someone else, and we are told that it's better than before. It's really hard to reconcile the two stories. I would have preferred if the story was about her sister/aunt/cousin, anyone. The male lead is interesting but the story has a lot of soul swapping/sharing which makes things a bit confusing. A light entertainment read.
The use of sex was weird but the characters were well written if you like morally grey characters. The romance plot mostly annoyed me but the overall plot was vaguely interesting. Meh, prob a 2.5 rounded up for me. I do think it was pretty well written, though.
Not Quite Dead is a spin-off from Ms Rowe’s Order of the Blade series as Jordyn Leahy was introduced there as a widowed Sheva and crossed paths with Eric Hunter in the same book.
It was interesting catching up with this couple again, and partaking in their journey to find, and if need be rescue Eric’s missing brother who had previously saved Jordyn’s life on numerous occasions and who Eric has more than just your run of the mill sibling connection with.
But things are not always as they seem; and while Jordyn surmises there is something unique about Eric that he chooses not to share, Eric is hell bent on protecting Jordyn from not only the evil that is stalking her, but from Eric himself.
As with all of Ms Rowe’s PNR stories, there is an abundance of danger, intrigue and life-threatening encounters, with a healthy helping of sarcastic banter, sexual innuendo and hot and combustible chemistry to keep the readers thoroughly engrossed.
I have no doubt this will become another success for Ms Rowe.
The world and the conflict wasn't terribly original but it was somewhat engaging. Still, I kept putting it down and going to other things.
The romance was insipid and there was too much of it and too soon. The fact that the series is a spin off series from a prior series becomes obvious early on and for at least the first half of the book I found myself wishing I'd already read the other book, then I realized they were repeating the relevant parts so much that I hadn't really missed anything.
Still, I wish I'd known that familiarity with the earlier series would have helped.
It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't strong enough to keep me coming back.
Not Quite Dead is a spin off from Stephanie Rowe's The Order of the Blade series. Eric Hunter is looking for his brother that has been missing. Jordyn Leahy may have been the last person to see his brother alive. Who is Jordyn and why did Eric's brother have a tie to her?
Can Jordyn help Eric find his brother? Can Eric help Jordyn figure out why she seems to be tied to both brothers and why she has to protect herself from her nightmares.
Stephanie Rowe has done it again. In her new series opener she leaves us breathless as we follow Jordyn and Eric on an amazing paranormal adventure (this time filled with Vampires like you've never seen them) that is as equally filled with love and romance. Something for everyone! If you want a read that draws you in and won't let you go, this is it. You will not be disappointed!
I thoroughly enjoyed this spinoff from the Order of the Blade series. After chain reading all of the OOTB books (and absolutely loving them) this was a nice change of pace. It's along the same vein as the OOTB series, but without all the crazy Calydon-ness. Can't wait to see where this series goes!
Wonderful!! Not Quite Dead is a great start on the new “NightHunter” series, a spin-off of Stephanie Rowe’s fabulous Order of the Blade, this is a true winner that you can definitely sink your teeth into.
It was a lovely read with a great storyline a great spin off from the order of the blade. i hope it turns in to a series i would love to read more about the night hunters 😬.
I have been waiting for this NEW SERIES from Stephanie Rowe to come out for awhile! All you Vampire loving fans you'll want to Pre-order this one now!!
