So after the revelation at the end of the second book, Alex and his friends are finding the Book of the Dead that sent them to Egypt with a Death Walker and the Order at their tail. The Order that knows every step they would take.

This book have a lot of actions, and we gotta to meet a new mummy - a friendly one plus the cat will return. Meanwhile Todtman are seeking the possible HQ of the Order.

This is book is too young to me, the problems are a little bit simple comparing to the YAs (which is also under the mythology genre) or rather a little bit similar... but the blisters *yuck* (still remembers a scene from the Monument 14. And the traitor, after books and books that have jaw-dropping revelations, the identity is too easy to decipher. Plus there the books in the series are almost the same in their outline hoping the next one will be more exciting and suprising. But probably Rick Riordan fans, especially his The Kanes and the House of Life, I mean the Kane Chronicles (hopefully it will also be redesigned since the other two series, HoO is a spin-off, is Character and the gods of.../olympians). And children who likes mythology and magic would surely love this.

Whoa.

I actually kind of liked this one.

First, a quick summary. Alex Sennefer was on the brink of death when his mother, in a last attempt, used the Lost Spells to bring him back to life. Though she was successful, the Lost Spells also brought back some... unwanted guests. Now, the Death Walkers threaten humanity and an evil organization known as The Order is on the loose. Alex's mother disappears without a trace, and it's up to Alex to bring his mom back.

End the summary.

Which, well... has no real purpose.

Ren isn't much better her self.

Now... enough on the characters.

This book had waaay more action than the last two. And a betrayal! Betrayals are always fun.

Overall, this book was okay. Massive improvement from book 1 and 2 though.

Book #111 Read in 2015
Tombquest: Valley of the Kings by Michael Northrop (YA)

This is the third book in a middle grade paranormal/mystery series. Alex is trying to find his mother as well as dealing with Death Walkers....Egyptian Gods who are coming back to life. "The Order" is trying to use the Death Walkers to bring evil into the world. Alex, with help from his friend Ren and his cousin Luke, are trying to stop the order. These books are quick reads packed with lots of actions and both male and female students in middle grades would enjoy these books.

Alex’in dadısının adı ile neden hareket ediyor bilinmez ama Alex’in annesini sevemiyorum. Ren’in kolyesini kullanmak istemeyişini de anlayamıyorum, zaten beceremiyorda. Son anda artık geçitler açabildiği kısımda “you go girl” diye bağırdım.

Recently, I have been enjoying TombQuest by Michael Northrop. I started it a couple of weeks ago and am on the last book now. The story is sort of like Percy Jackson meets The Infinity Rings.

The story centers around Alex, a boy with a mysterious illness who is suddenly cured when his mother uses an ancient Egyptian artifact to save him. Unfortunately, while Alex is saved, his mother's actions open a rift (for lack of a better word) that allows an old Order to return and gain strength. Before he knows it, Alex is and his friend Ren are in a fight to save the world, battling beings from ancient Egypt as well as human foes.

There are several aspects of this story that I like. First and foremost, I love the relationship that Alex has with his mother. He really respects her and loves her; he appreciates the sacrifices she makes for him. Second, I like Alex and Ren's relationship. While they are good friends, they do have disagreements (in one book they have a pretty big argument.) Most of the time in stories, you find that best friends get along perfectly. This story shows you that you can be best friends, have an argument, realize you were wrong, forgive each other, and move on. Third, I like the emphasis on forgiveness. I can't really say much about this without spoiling something. But not only do Alex and Ren forgive each other when they disagree, there is betrayal in this story and forgiveness. Fourth, I like how Michael Northrop infuses humor into the serious situations. I think it is cleverly done. By just adding a word or phrase, Mr. Northrop breaks up the tension just enough to take the edge out of the situation.

I am adding this to my list of "favorites" for pre-teens and adults with a childlike heart. I will caution that the author does not hesitate to kill characters in his book. (Mini Spoiler: so far, he hasn't killed any main characters, but there are minor characters that die.) So, if you have a child who is particularly sensitive to death in stories, you might want to steer clear of it until they are older.

3,5 estrellas.

Alex and his band of survivors are off to Egypt in the desperate hope of finding his mom, but the hot desert carries more than they expect. Yet another Death Walker, the Order, a violent hunter, betrayal and the journey of learning how to use their amulets. This was a sizzling hot read that left its mark.

Yet another in the series that I enjoyed though my reading partner was quite frustrated over the book, but in the best of ways. This is a fun read for all ages though if you've got younger readers (I'm thinking early-mid elementary), be prepared that this is probing more into the darker side, becoming more emotional and escalating the risks. Still a fantastic read, you just might have to do some shoulder pats.

Would recommend and hoping I get the next book before my buddy reader finishes their copy cause they are not patient or good at withholding spoilers.

This is a great roller-coaster ride of action and adventure. Considering that it is book 3 of 5 and the only one of i have read I'm saying plenty.
The characters are all terrific, 3 friends (actually 2 cousins and a BFF), bonded by a need to save everything they love from an ancient Egyptian cult bent on destroying the world in favor of their vision.
This is a read that will not disappoint

Story continues to ramp up. I like the magical aspects of the story and the Egyptian setting is interesting. The tension/suspense is high and the idea of a traitor heightens the drama and keeps you guessing.

The friends need an ancient book of the dead to kill the Death Walkers that roam the earth. To get this they must find Alex's mum and the lost spells. They head to Cairo where they heard that his mum's passport has been swiped in the airport. They go there to find absolute chaos and evil beings rampaging the city. Will they be able to get the scrolls before the evil Order do?

My favourite part of the story is when the two friends (Alex and Ren) go out into the desert to look at the Valley Of The Kings where his mum was sighted entering one of the tombs. But they go in only to find a fire-throwing death walker.

My favourite character as I have already said is Ernst Todtman who is the friend's amulet teacher and basically caregiver. He is german and partly not mentioned in this book. But he is a key character in the series and my very favourite character in the series.

I learned a lot from this book like that the Valley Of The Kings had lots of mummies but has been raided from their valuables. And that the mummy would usually have a statue of itself in perfect recognition of its former self.

I rate this book 4 - 5 for its well said lines and the author's creativity.

In thos book I can see that the author really wants to conect with the reader. I believe that in the series "TombQuest" there is a pattern that I see come and go. This pattern is when Alex uses his amulet to help his friends. I read about how he over comes challenges, meets new people, and how he will hopefully find he mother, save the lost spells, and stop the death walkers before its too late. In the story I have read about how Alex and his friends will get even closer to stoping the death walkers.

Review originally posted on Children's Atheneum

I have said this before and I will say it again, Michael Northrop knows how to write a good action adventure tale. Leaving off from book two, I was thankful for a little bit of backstory as it had been a little while since I read the first two in the series. It didn't take me long to catch on though. At its heart, this really is pure unadulterated adventure, but Northrop doesn't skimp on character development either. Alex, who has been ill most of his life, is really beginning to enjoy his newfound health and is relishing every moment of it. Ren struggles greatly with how to use her Talisman as she has always resisted magic, leaning more heavily on logic. The idea that there is magic and she can use it really bothers her, unlike Alex and Todtman who have embraced it fully.

As an avid Egyptology enthusiast, I loved that they were now in Egypt and especially loved the Valley of the Kings. In fact, it got me so excited about it again that I have watched a couple of documentaries again regarding the subject, but I just love it so much.

These books are perfect for the adventure lover and anyone obsessed with Ancient Egypt.

Searching for The Lost Spells takes Alex, Ren, and Luke, along with Dr. Todtman to The Valley of Kings in Egypt. Finding The Lost Spells is the only way to stop the Death Walkers....but, Egypt has undergone a transformation. Unbearable light and heat, the likes of which it has never seen, has rendered the country a virtual ghost town.

The Order is after them, in hot pursuit, trying to thwart their search. They always seem to be one step ahead of them and they are running out of time. Little do they know, up until the very end, that they have been betrayed and be someone who is very close to them. Will they be able to stop the Death Walkers even in the face of this adversity?

Tombquest: Valley of Kings starts off where #2 left off, yet once again, the character development and storyline are lacking substance. A tough read to get through, especially when the continuity is lacking from book to book.

This book has our team racing across the world trying to find the Book of the Dead Lost Spells in order to undo a great magical harm. Unfortunately it seems that everywhere they go, The Order is already there or arrives shortly.

They arrive in Egypt, seeking the spells and Alex's mom, who it is now whispered took the spells for herself. How are they to find her, stop the whispers, and derail the damage caused by the magical leakage that has freed the dead to walk the earth again?

This book has both positive and negatives as they search for the spells (and Alex's mother), with the return of a mummy cat that really likes Ren, and another new mummy who is seeking his heart. Overall, this book had some really good twists and some good vibes, although the ending was shattering.

ok. so this one was amazing, and so far my favorite of the three.
the books are short, but so much happens in them. i wish there was a little more time to explore the places they go and the people they meet, but that's not what this book is about. it's about adventure, saving the world and finding Alex's mom.
keep em coming!
i do recommend that younger children or those that are sensitive to violence or some gross factor, wait to read this series till they are older.
the author is very good at describing the condition of the mummies.and some of the things that happen may scar children who aren't ready for it.
