Ice is definitely scorching hot! Kaylie and Cort... Oh my! Some of the parts were rather pornish and I felt like a little kid reading something bad, but it was worth it! Great read and kept my attention and on the edge of my seat the entire time! Highly recommend!!!!

2 ½-3 stars – Romantic Suspense

This was just an okay/average romantic suspense read IMO, and the hero and heroine annoyed the crap out of me at times. They both had traumatic pasts, hefty emotional baggage, and major issues to work through, but it also felt like they exacerbated every little thing. The intense, high level of drama and the H/H's numerous TSTL moments got old real fast for me. The suspense plot involving a crazed stalker/killer in the Alaskan wilderness was also a bit over the top.

Ice had all the right elements to be a great romantic suspense, but just didn't seem to quite come together as well as it could have. So overall, it was a decent story, but I've read better.

When someone you just met acts like a jerk and really annoys you, do you feel like ripping your clothes off and jumping their bones? No? Me neither. I'm thinking more along the lines of whacking them upside the head with a cast iron frying pan. This is one of those books with a "hate at first sight/uncontrollable lust/secrets abounding" plot line. Combine it with a heroine who indulges in TSTL behaviour and I decided to put it down.

I read this as part of the Last Hero Standing collection.

I had high hopes for this story, as I'm a big fan of Dana Stabenow's mysteries. And I have been rewarded. This is good thriller with hot sex and solid action. Plus mountains and snow and grizzlies and crazy bush-pilots.

Well written, and I'll be reading the next one soon.

3.5 stars--ICE is the first instalment in Stephanie Rowe’s contemporary, adult ALASKA HEAT romantic suspense series set in the wilderness of Alaska. This is pilot Cort McClaine, and Kaylie Fletcher’s story line.

NOTE: Due to the graphic nature of the story line premise, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers

Told from several third person perspectives including Cort and Kaylie ICE focuses on Kaylie Fletcher’s search for her family. Mountain climbing was her parents’ passion but a phone call telling Kaylie her mother survived a fatal climbing expedition on Mount McKinley forced our heroine to venture into the wilds of Alaska, something she promised herself she would never do. Hoping to stay with her friend Sara and her husband Jackson, Kaylie found herself facing pilot Cort McClaine, a man who stirred something within our story line heroine but all was not well when Cort and Kaylie arrived, and in the ensuing melee our couple will discover that death was awaiting them upon their return. What ensues is the building but acrimonious relationship between Cort and Kaylie, and the potential fall out as Kaylie becomes the target of an obsessed stalker, someone who knows too much about Kaylie, and the family she lost.

The relationship between Kaylie and Cort is one of immediate attraction but Kaylie is a city girl and wants nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the Alaska wilderness. Cort’s life is in the air, and the surrounding greenery of the state of Alaska but falling in love with Kaylie brought too many memories of another woman from his past, another woman who wanted nothing to do with Cort’s lifestyle or the land upon which he lived. The back and forth, up and down, constant push and pull between our leading couple is filled with anxiety, stress, sexual tension and the arrogance of two people who refuse to accept the other for who they are, and what they represent. Saying that, Cort and Kaylie had nothing in common but the sexual tension that ran tight and strong-at every opportunity Kaylie was pushing Cort away, and Cort’s demons from the past continue to push him over the edge. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Kaylie’s brother Mason; Cort’s friend Luke Webber; Charity Simms; Old Tom; Troopers Bill Man, and Richie Parker.

ICE is a story of family, friendships, obsession and betrayal. The action packed premise is dramatic and intense; the romance struggles in the face of preconceived notions; the characters are animated, compelling but vulnerable. This one was a bit of a struggle -perhaps a little less friction between our leading couple would have made for a more believable happily ever after.

The setting and suspense in this book were both interesting and very exciting. I had a problem with the romance though which is why I gave it a 3 instead of a 4. The hero and heroine both had very damaged pasts and I never felt they would have been intimate so quickly or really have even ended up together. It felt forced and would jar me out of the story.

Great action suspense in this kick off of a new series by this author! Loved all the twists! Both Kaylie and Cort have their demons but together they are better. Loved the setting. Loved the depth of character along with all the secondary characters. Looking forward to reading more in this world.

This was the oddest romance I've ever read. The body count was high and gruesome. Lots of death, stabbings, clubbings, shootings, tourture; it all got a bit much after a while. I'm going to add "level of eye roll" to my ratings because this one had some doozies.

First, the romance/sex part of the story. Both Cort & Kaylee have pasts in which they've been hurt so they are naturally drawn to each other which I liked but they immediately, as in within hours of meeting, have sex. Right after her parents and brother have gone missing and her best friend and his best friend are brutally killed and they see their bloody bodies. Major eye roll!

They continue to go back and forth on whether or not they are right for each other and within the week they are together, the same thoughts are hashed over again and again and again resulting in a sudden, deep love for each other. Another big eye roll!

The sex at inappropriate times continues in another completely out there sex scene in a plane, right after they crash land, in the middle of a storm, on the killers property with him lurking nearby. Even bigger eye roll!

This continues throughout the book. Lust by both characters driven at the most inopportune times which just had me shaking my head.

Second, the stupidity of their actions. The killer is after Kaylee but both Cort and Kaylee continue to be caught off guard. The killer attacks the plane with only one door yet they are able to get out? The killer watches them through a window and Cort, who is supposed to be keeping guard has no idea. The killer breaks a window of a one room cabin and Kaylee runs out the front door only to run right into him?

Third, the villain is more of a caricature and although he is obsessed with her mother, there is not much back ground on why, after 30 years, he'd snap and go on a brutal killing spree. Would have liked less of the back and forth of Cort & Kaylee's emotions and more character development of the killer.

Fourth, some big plot holes. A girlfriend of her brother is mentioned as being on the hike with him in the beginning but never brought up again, even once her brother is rescued. Her brother mentions a boss who might have it out for him and maybe some shady work dealings but that is never revisited. Story line with Kaylee's parents is weak, Charity and Luke come in and out of the story line with not much to do.

The funny thing is, that I didn't hate this book. I liked a lot of the writing and it had great potential as a romantic thriller. Just too many deaths & sex scenes in all the wrong places that pulled me out of the story.

Ice by Stephanie Rowe was super hot and a great read. I've been trying to read new authors and I am glad I picked this up. This book is based in cold Alaska.

Kaylie Fletcher has worked hard since the age of sixteen to distance herself from the life her parents loved, a life filled with danger and adventure, when she returns to the life she swore never to return to because of a call, your mother is alive. Her parents and brother went on a climb in Alaska when she received news that they died, even though she didn't have the best relationship with them she comes. Her best friend Sara who lives in Alaska made all the arrangements and was supposed to pick her up but instead she gets Cort.

Cort is a bush pilot who loves to fly, he has been pushing boundaries for years his friends say. He lost his parents at a young age. He doesn't like Kaylie's type, she reminds him of his ex-wife who put him through hell, all dolled up and wearing diamonds so even though he is hot for her he doesn't want to act on it, he is only doing a favor to his best friend Sara's husband. Cort represents what Kaylie ran from, someone who loves thrills, she wants someone who wants her more than that but one call changes everything, they find their best friends murdered and them in danger so they take refuge in Cort's house for the night and give in to pleasure to wipe the grief.

Kaylie does not want to compound that mistake and tells Cort so but when they go to Sara's place it seems normal, no bodies nothing, when they return later they find something disturbing which convinces them it is Kaylie the killer is obsessed with.

The book was well executed, the sexual tension of the charts, they were so many hot moments that I was left fanning myself ;)

I loved how they come to accept each other despite each others limitation. Kaylie looks in deep into her life and so does Cort, he accepts his parents death.

Two weeks ago Kaylie Fletcher parents and brother were killed in a climbing accident in Alaska.. Then she gets a creepy phone call that all the caller says is "your mother is alive". So Kaylie takes off for Alaska even though its the last place she wants to be to figure out what is going on.. Her good friend is supposed to pick her up at the airport but instead Cort McClaine is there to take her to her friend and her husband.. But once they arrive at there cabin From here the running from a killer ensues.. Both Kaylie and Cort already have horrible baggage from there past that they still struggle with while they are on the run from a killer.. This was the first book I had ever read from Stephanie Rowe (I read it first in 2009) and it was a winner if you like romantic suspense..

Good story line, possibly, but the writing was too campy to slog through. Kind of "you could tell he was man,a mans's man" heroine and obvious love interest to be are on tarmac in Alaska, they'd just listened to a voicemail where a young woman is possibly brutalized, but Cort (the mans man) is thinking to himself "Maybe he wouldn’t be so quick to send her packing. Maybe a long, slow night of Alaskan loving would go a long way toward getting her and what she represented finally cleansed from his system" wtf!

While I enjoyed the parts with action, there was too much cheesy romantic scenes that dragged on. The characters were very angsty and had far too much time to dwell on the "do I love her/him?" and the it started to get a little annoying. The hero was very possessive and over the top. If the author cut down on some of the inner turmoil of the characters and stuck with the action, I may have liked this a lot better.

Ice is a thrilling edge of your seat read !! I received Ice as a gift. By page 30 I had to stop long enough to go buy Chill. I knew I was going to want more from Stephanie Rowe.
I loved the story. I felt as if I were in the air flying with Cort & Kaylie. I could feel the cold of the mountain. With vivid detail you can snuggle in and enjoy this thriller . The threat is coming for both of them and the love they were neither looking for or wanted will not be ignored either.

It's never a good idea to start off thinking the female protagonist is a bit of an idiot and the male protagonist is an asshole. I was really never able to overcome those first impressions. They both have ISSUES. I didn't have much by way of sympathy for either of them. They both have TSTL moments. Argh!

Not on a very good run in regards to romantic suspense.

This book contradicts itself at practically every turn and rambles endlessly about utter BS that is irrelevant to what is actually going on.
And the FMC was completely OBSESSED with people dying to a creepy point. Also apparently no one ever thought to point out to her that the city is just as dangerous as the country backwoods. I mean you’re just as likely to be hit by a bus as you are to fall down a mountain and die so neither is really safer than the other.
Also some obvious questions are never asked about the killer, like how he was able to clean up so quickly. Did he bleach the shit out of the house or did he replace the wood? Also how was it done overnight? In a snow storm?
Also and a few things get mentioned once then completely dropped. Like the brother’s girlfriend.

Also I have a bone to pick about the utter BS that goes on when someone gets injured.

Nicked an artery? You’ll be fine with some bandages and a 1hour hospital visit. No transfusion needed.

Infected leg injury? Just 1 surgery and 1 month of rest at home will fix that right up no problem. Not to mention the infected stomach wound too.

Burned in a plane crash? Sure you can go rescue your girlfriend before seeking medical care and then get it hours later then be able to leave the hospital, no need to stay for observation or anything.
Also the funniness with your hip probably means it’s dislocated, I would not recommend jumping out of a plane to save said girlfriend and then carrying her to safety let along walking on it!

Thrilling adventure, steamy romance and Alaska- I love this book!

This is a first read for me of this author Stephanie Rowe. All I can say is WOW! I knew from the preview it would be something I would enjoy reading. I wasn't expecting the tight tug on my heartstrings or the gut- wrenching fear I felt when there seemed no hope in sight for the heroes. ICE, book 1, of Stephanie Rowe's Alaska Heat series, is a roller coaster ride of thrills and chills, mixed in with some of the hottest love scenes, all designed to take your breath away and leave you shaking! I am still trying to catch my breath and slow my heart rate. What a wild ride!
As soon as I finished ICE, I was ready to read book 2, CHILL. But then I took a look at my TBR shelf and shook my head. It is so full it's about to crack (virtually speaking since I mostly read on my Kindle app). I just can't put on more book on it until I clear some more from my shelf. I mean, some of the novels on that shelf were purchased over 3 years ago! The good news is the series is available on Kindle Unlimited. So barring the series being withdrawn from the subscription, I should be able to pick it up anytime.
If you like Alaska bushmen, finding their soul-mates after a battle to the death against nature and men; you definitely have to read ICE by Stephanie Rowe. Then buckle up because it will be one h**l of a ride!

I have had this on my kindle app forever or it seems like it. Holy Cow it was awesome. It has action, suspense, and sex. I could not put it down. It grabbed me from the very first page and I forgot the world around me. Two people who are totally different and have had horrible tragedy in their lives, find peace and happiness.

Kaylie likes her nice, safe life. She is nothing like her adrenaline junkie family. Her parents and brother are climbing in Alaska, when they are lost. She rushes there, even though she’s not seen her parents in ten years, after getting a call saying her mother is alive. Her best friend, Sara, hires her a bush pilot to take her to the last place they were to have been. When she arrives, she gets a voicemail from her friend, panicking and then the line goes dead. Cort is a bush pilot and is sent to get Kaylie but automatically assumes she high maintenance. Cort is not the pilot hired to fly her but his best friend is married to Sara. They fly to their cabin and what awaits them is horrifying. Now someone is stalking Kaylie and they can’t understand why. Cort has promised to protect her but can he protect his heart too?

ICE (Alaskan Heat) is a sizzling hot, romantic, thrilling suspense novel. This book has it all, plus it is action-packed. It was one of those books that was hard to put down once you started. Lots of mystery, too!

Rugged Alaskan bush pilot, Cort McClaine, knows he must protect the woman who hired him to find her missing family, after a deadly madman is stalking her. Her name is Kaylie Fletcher and originally from Alaska. When she left she vowed never to return, but her only family was missing, and she wouldn't leave until she found them.

As Kaylie's plane touched down onto the tarmac, her dread of Alaska returned. As she looked out the airplane window to see the alluring temptation of blue sky and snowy peaked mountains, plus the feeling of freedom. To her it was only a facade for the darkness that lay deep in this territory. She would leave again as soon as her family was found. That was her thoughts, until she met her alpha-hero, Cort McCaine. Their instantaneous attraction for each other would change everything.

Kaylie Fletcher hates Alaska, but when a crazy calls her to tell her that her mother may have survived the climbing accident on Denali that supposedly killed bother of her parents and brother, she flies there to find out what happened. When she arrives, she's met by bush pilot Cort McClaine instead of her friend Sara. Both take an instant dislike to each other because of appearances, but when Kaylie hears Sara's last voicemail message, she stops Cort and together they head to Sara's. When they finally arrive after flying through a storm, they discover Sara and her husband dead. Someone lured Kaylie to Alaska and people are dying because of it. Kaylie and Cort have to work together to overcome their pasts (her parents dragged her all over the world climbing mountains, his socialite wife left him after losing his baby) to figure out who the murderer is and who's left alive. Well done with lots of action and suspense.

This is very good. This is about Kaylie Fletcher, an accountant, who finds out her parents and brother have been listed missing in a climbing accident in Alaska. She has to go back into Alaska to help find them, if they are alive, or bring back the bodies if they aren't . She has panic attacks thinking of going back into Alaska to find them as when she was younger, her parent had taken her climbing and she had a bad accident and horrible memories from that time that she doesn't want to face. Her ace pilot for the trip is bush pilot Cort McClaine, a daredevil flier , who also has a past he will not face. The trip turns into a deadly cat and mouse game with a killer out for blood. This was so good. Lots of suspense, had me tense at times. Hard time putting it down. Highly recommend.

I stumbled upon this book when it was offered on BookBub. The "Alaska" Heat grabbed my attention, because I had just stared to read a historical book also based in Alaska. After reading the blurb, I knew I needed to give this new to me author a chance. I read the entire book in one day! There was so much heartache, intensity, death, mystery, and attraction that I had to keep reading. And of course, the question of who done it. The initial meeting of Kaylie and Cort was both comical and terrifying. Their chemistry was consuming. Several other wonderful characters. Absolutely stunning descriptions of the Alaskan wilderness and it's unforgiving season and terrain! A wonderfully crafted story. I look forward to reading more from this author!

Alaskan Ice

So much pain, suffering, heartache & emotion?! I love it all. Especially the passion and the love. Fighting against the idealism of what her family wants her to be, Kaylie wants safety and security. Living with adrenaline-seeking parents, Kaylie encounters more than the average death scenarios. Getting a vague phone call, Kaylie flies into Alaska where she is forced to face her fears. It helps that she has Cort, a bush pilot, to ease the tension and keep her safe from a stalking murderer. Cort battles his own demons but finds peace and serenity in Kaylie’s presence. So much emotion and secrets are revealed that make this story something to remember.

All kinds of emotions to feel when reading this book, total adrenaline from the suspense and the depth of the characters and what they each go through. So much intensity in this story, I loved it. Cort is a bush pilot in Alaska who lives and flies on the edge and Kaylie is coming back to Alaska after 10 years of living in the lower 48, she won't take risks at all. Her family has disappeared and someone wants Kaylie to die. It takes a while to figure out who is the bad person, but when you do, watch out. Diamonds and high flying adventures. "You hide from life, But somehow you've got more spark than anyone I've ever met." Totally recommend this read.

Good premise but

It just didn't flow well. First, the trauma that Kaylie had was intense. Between the the NY that happened when she was 11 and then the almost dying when she was 16, I wouldn't want anything to do with mountains either. But, it just didn't make sense that this guy suddenly dies all this killing 30 years after a woman left him. Right off, I couldn't figure out why the author killed Sara and Jackson, there wasn't any real purpose to the story. And then all she and Cort can seem to think about is sex - really? We've got 2 people brutally killed and that's your focus? I think I'm done with this series.

Absolutely sucked me quickly into the story! Kaylie & Cort both have some serious baggage to deal with while they try & deal with their attraction to each other & find themselves alone in strange Circumstances, with murders and missing people in the Alaska wilderness!

There was a part I wasn’t quite good with, but if I say it gives away too much of the book. See if you can figure out what I’m thinking!! LOL

Must read

This book will pull you in. When I received this book I wasn’t sure I was going to read it right away. After that first chapter it was end game. I loved the characters, the story line is amazing. This book isn’t predictable which I love. You will be at the edge of your seat, heart pounding for the characters. I don’t normally read thriller books but this is a must and I can’t wait to read the others.

This was a gripping story from the first chapter and well worth reading if you like thriller romances. I don't like spoilers so leave it to you to read to get the full effect.
I only had one thing that irritated me somewhat and that was the constant repetition of 'Cort caught', if the hero is going to be called Cort please use any of the other words available as it became annoying after a while.

Stumbled across this book on my device, don’t remember downloading it but there it was. Recently finished To Date an Immortal by the same author and just started reading. This one is darker, no immortality involved.

Not quite “couldn’t put it down” but definitely wanted to keep reading. Not knowing what to expect with regard to storyline the story pulled me in. I wanted to know what was going on with the character within the first few pages.
