Fighting is 90% brain and 10% strength. Moves are waste of time, the real world doesn't work like that. Most people think the most obvious spot to hit during a fist fight is the face but this is a very wrong misconception.

There is a lot of soft spots throughout the body. Use this spot and manipulate them such as throat, nose, kneecap and stomach to gain advantage and flee.

This book helps me to provide the basic of self-defense and understanding of it.

The Basics

How to defend yourself in an unexpected situation. The writer breaks it down into simple strategies. No meditation. No complex moves. Just effective defense actions that open an opportunity to get away.

Too basic and vague to be of any real use. Some decent thoughts but not enough detail to make it beneficial.

Review: Self Defense Made Simple by Phil Pierce

This is a helpful book to learn the basic principles about self defense, and shows some moves to help you protect yourself if an attack arises, and then escape from the situation.

The author explains that "self defense is 90% brain and 10% body." If you need to make a self defense move to protect yourself then do so, then check around your surroundings for safety, and then make your escape.

This book is for beginners to learn the basics of self defense. There are some illustrations to help you. Some readers would probably benefit from more illustrations to learn the steps. Several years ago I took a basic self defense class so some of the author's techniques were a refresher course for me. He shares protecting yourself by using parts of your body to get the best results. You do not need advance techniques to have results because in the heat of the moment you just need the basics.

This is the author's second book, he encourages readers to read his first book Defend Yourself in 3 Seconds to further explain how to protect yourself.

The book also covers the topic of being physically fit so you can protect yourself in case a crisis warrants it. The author shares some exercises to build up your strength.

The book is short so it can read quickly, and then takes some practice to master the self defense moves.

This is a book that all people especially women need to read to know the basics of self protection.

I received this book complimentary from the author for a honest review.

Received from LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review.

I like this book and the wealth of information in it. It's a very good guide for learning how to protect oneself with simple techniques. I think, however, I'm going to have to read it more than once to get everything said in it as it's a lot to absorb. I also like that most of the explained techniques have pictures to show where they are to be used. This is very helpful as telling someone where to hit is one thing. Showing them as well is much more effective as that's how the brain operates and learns things. One defense seems to have been left out though: the ear blow. The one where you basically clap your hands hard against the opponent's ears, which is another close-range defense attack and I've been told is quite disabling for the aggressor. One of my only real complaints is the term of "front hand" and "front arm" threw me until it was finally explained (almost half the book later) what it meant. If you are going to use an odd term like this, please tell me what it means upfront so I don't spend most of the book staring at the phrase in utter confusion.

Great book for beginners and people who have never had to experience self defense. I paid $2.99 on Kindle and was worth every penny. Also you get a free book at the end. Phil is very knowledgeable and shares his tips in a way that a child can understand. Very easy to read and follow. If you are wanting a book on self defense get this one first. You won't regret it.

Great introduction to basic self-defense with some pretty good tips. This ebook would be a good idea for women, someone small, and the elderly. It's a quick and easy read.

Brilliant book! Nothing too fancy, clear and easy to follow. Both my 15 year old daughter and i read through the book together and practiced - we both learned something new. We will be re-reading and practicing more!

It's a good read and a must one if you are completely unaware of basic security cautions but, I think it oversimplifies the subject so in the end you feel it lacks some information.
