The Timber Valley pack has a terrible reputation. Word is their males are dominant, kinky, and possessive – and Josephine’s best friend from college is being forced to marry one? No way!
Curvy wolf shifter Josephine Southpaw’s got the perfect solution. Using a magic charm, she’ll disguise herself as the slender, beautiful Camille on her wedding day – while Camille hightails it out of town with the wolf she really loves. Of course, the Alpha will ditch Josephine the second he gets her back to the wedding suite and sees what his chubby bride really looks like. What could possibly go wrong?
Well, for starters, Alpha Maxwell Battle is smokin’ hot. And he takes one look at Josephine and vows to never let her go – but he’s going to punish her for her trickery in deliciously sexy ways. And finally, Josephine’s friends keep staging well-intentioned rescue attempts, but she’s no longer sure she wants to be rescued.
But Josephine’s not the only one with secrets. It soon becomes very clear that Maxwell’s hiding something big, a secret that puts not only Josephine’s heart but her life at risk.
Georgette St. Clair writes hot, sexy romances starring Alpha heroes. The road to love may be rocky and fraught with peril (and humor and scorchtastic sex and healthy heapings of snark), but her shifters will stop at nothing to claim the women they love.
Georgette has worn many hats in life: newspaper reporter, EMT, internet marketer, cocktail waitress, temp, nurse’s aide (not in chronological order).
When she’s not rescuing fur-babies, she spends her days in a fantasy universe where she nudges her smart-mouthed, take-no-gruff heroines onto paths which will set them on a collision course with true love.
Wolf shifter Josephine Southpaw isn't going to let her friend from college walk down the isle with an Alpha arranged marriage. Josephine has a magic charm hiding her identity and plans to walk down the isle with Alpha Maxwell Battle and then when they get to the honeymoon portion say TA DA, you jerk and get an annulment.
Maxwell knows Josephine is not his bride to be and he is elated. He wants the curvy woman with attitude and plans to make her his. There is danger heading his way though as a threat to Josephine is close by but Maxwell is not going to let anyone get close enough to hurt her.
Very fun read. I have been looking forward to this one for awhile. Maxwell is pure alpha and I liked the whole concept of the pack.
This book was good, but it has room for improvement for sure.
I'm always looking for books in similar execution to Suzanne Wright who everything she writes I devour and love. It's really difficult for me to find books that even make me feel that way, or think that the author is similar. This book does just that, at least for a little while. Josephine is a seemingly strong character, that is until crap goes down and she can't even defend herself. In this world Alpha's are the it thing, the top wolf, the top supreme power, but that doesn't mean women are equal. So the story starts off with Josephine going to take the place of a college acquaintance friend (roomie from college) Camille who is being married off to an Alpha she has never met. She is in love with a different wolf so she doesn't want to make this happen, but her step - uncle is forcing her to do this for the alliance that he will have with Alpha's pack.
So, Josephine goes, and finds the Alpha, Maxwell, hot. And things progress from there.
The book is only surface deep, with lightly fleshed out backgrounds, sure there isn't much room to cover everyone's history with only 120 pages, but I was hoping for more. The plot is outlined, and has good potential, there are some typos and grammar issues, but that could easily be cleaned up. If this went deeper, had more time between arguments and resolution and more fleshed out character this book could easily have been 4-5 stars. But it's shorter, and quick so it isn't as good as it could be. But I enjoyed this author's writing, and I enjoyed where the book was going, I disliked how Josephine was a loud mouth but couldn't defend herself and had to be rescued.
Still a decent light story, with lots of potential for more.
I am a fan of shapeshifter romances and was happy to read one by a new - to-me author. This was not the worse shifter romance I've read but it is by far from the best. The story felt contrived and chaotic -- lacking a cohesion that is found in the well written shifter tales. I also found the heroine, Josephine, to be annoyingly "sassy" but whiney, too. I also didn't think the side story with Corwin and Bess added anything extra to the story. Overall, it was an okay read but not a series I would follow at all.
9-10-17 I actually "re-read" this story in audio format and the story ACTUALLY drew me into it this time and prompted me to read the other books in the series -- still in audio -- which was enjoyable. I think the audio format made the difference.
The best kind of friend is the one who is your ride or die. Josephine is that friend! She is sweet and kind, mouthy with strong morals, and the perfect Battle mate. I think the author did a fantastic job of building the characters and the story keeping me enthralled from the very first page. This is a wonderful series starter and has thrust me deep into the rabbit hole of series binging. I can’t wait to read the next book and see what happens!
This book is a fever dream, it is silly and bizarre. I listened to it while coloring, for comedic entertainment, and boy did it deliver. The author definitely knows her audience, and its kinda hilarious.
This was a fun listen and I loved how Max took Josephine and worshiped her like she’s never had done before. There’s a lot of twist and turns in this one so make sure your buckled in.
Josephine Southpaw has the best of intentions when she jumps in to help her friend Camille avoid being forced to marry Maxwell Battle, Alpha of the Timber Valley Pack. A simple, but expensive, magic charm of deception will have everyone believing she is Camille while her friend escapes for parts unknown. Once enough time has gone by she'll reveal her real self which should result in the quickest annulment in history.
Problems arise when Maxwell goes through with the marriage ceremony and subsequently refuses to consider dissolving it even after he sees the real Josephine. While he is the sexiest piece of manhood ever to walk the earth it's just a matter of time before he realizes his mistake and sends her packing. In the meantime Josephine will enjoy their honeymoon.
Problems arise when her well meaning friends try to help and a rival pack feels the time is right to attempt to take over the pack.
I totally appreciated this story though I do have to admit I got lost somewhere in the middle. Maxwell is that guy who pretty is in control of his environment through the use of intelligence and if needed brute force. He's the full package and he knows it. Josephine is more the female who will help everyone else but can't understand why her friends would help her. Putting the two together was deliciously fun as Maxwell slowly but steadily traps her at every turn until she finally realizes she doesn't want to escape anymore.
As for the actual adult content scenes. There is a BDSM slant that had more of a sugarkink to kinky quality. Further, the scenes themselves didn't get too indepth or graphic but they sure are sensually romantically HAWT.
My issues had to do with the actual story line. Nonspoiler code of conduct restricts me from going into specifics but I do feel the events did get a little bizzaro and disjointed. I also was disappointed that the climatic end scene was too condensed and took a back seat to it's potential.
Overall, I really did enjoy this tale of Alpha shifters who are strong enough and smart enough to always get what they want though they'll have to work for it when it comes to claiming their mate. I do see the potential for follow up installments which I definitely be grabbing though I don't see when that will be. :(
✅ Fake Relationship ✅ Bigger Heroine ✅ Growling ✅ Biting ✅ Easy Listen ✅ Medium and Predictable OW Drama ✅ HEA
This was a great little listen! It was very similar to Love Potion for the Alpha by Alice Coldbreath in the beginning. Both heroines take a potion to disguise themselves and make them more attractive to an arranged mating so the original intended can marry someone else. I really liked this book and it had great pacing and was a nice little listen! Our gal is thick, loves her friends, and would do anything for them, including disguising herself as said friend so she won’t be forced to marry someone else. Her secret identity is soon figured out by our alpha and the fun really begins! Enjoy it!
❤️🎧📖❤️ Book: Bride of the Alpha Series: Timber Valley Pack, Book 1 Author: Georgette St. Clair Narrated by: Maxine Mitchell Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
🗣 Narration 🗣: Great!
📚 Tropes 📚: PNR, fake relationship, bigger heroine, OW drama
AUDIBLE REVIEW Good narration. Increases by one star rating. Especially due to the amount of sex in this book. I had to wonder how the narrator kept from laughing at some points. I must say I did enjoy listening to this story through Audible Plus as it has been years since I read it. Though I purchased this book in 2014, I cannot get the audible version discounted so listened though Audible Plus. BOOK REVIEW Okay but not the best by this author. Started okay but just didn’t improve enough to make it enjoyable. I also wasn’t keen on this shifter world with its archaic laws and rules. Went a bit slow in the middle and then raced at the end. I did enjoy how this played out and glad the old brigade of Elders was replaced with hopefully a broader thinking group. Bought read and reviewed in 2014 but original review is missing.
First and foremost this author clearly doesn’t know how to describe a black woman. The only thing she said about this woman’s description is that she’s a brunette, with wavy hair, and is fat. Black women come in all shapes, complexions, sizes, and hair texture. If she was going to compare the difference between Josephine and Camille she should have said “my best friend is blond hair, skinny, blue eyes, and white” but “I have thick chocolate brown curly hair, brown eyes, pear shape, with skin the color of caramel, and I’m black. Unfortunately, the book wasn’t descriptive at all. Very disappointed. Also, the female lead had 0 confidence not even a little.
I loved that this was about a bbw. It was a quick read but I can see Georgette's progress. I loved the characters, but i think the one complaint I have with her was there was some missing detail. Like with Corwin, there really wasn't any story behind him to suggest he was crazy. So when his part was told about his crazy father it was like... Okkk? And I like Josephine's character. Maxwell was ok for a Alpha but there was certainly things missing with him too. Over all the book was good. I want to see great
This was beyond terrible. The heroine was stupid and the hero was a jerk with no redeeming qualities. Finding a BBW attractive is not enough to make a character worthwhile. As a plot mechanism the hero unnecessarily keeps something from the heroine using an amazingly flimsy excuse. The situation could have been cleared up enough with a simple, but vague explanation and it would have spared her a lot of grief. These are just the first few reasons I hated this book.
The story line and synopsis was EXTREMELY promising. The content, however, was not. It was truly painful for me to read this book. And I thought it might've been a one off, yet reading some of St.Claire's other works I see it's a common thread throughout. I definitely did not enjoy this book and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know. I'm sure there are some people out there who like this sort of thing (poorly written "novels") but I am not one of them! Absolutely horrible book!
I think this was a great start to a good series. I really want to know mare of this fantastic place and all the people. Dont leave me waiting too long.
Quick read, a whirlwind of activities took place from the first chapter. It was over before you knew what happened but somehow everything you needed was there.
If this was any longer, I would have given up pretty damn quick. The heroine is probably my least liked character I've ever read. She's got major self esteem issues even though her friends constantly remind her she's getting attention from guys (convenient she remembers that when people tell her that her husband has the hots for her but not before) which is also weird because she's so down on herself, yet at the very beginning she's primping herself in the mirror - yes she looks different, BUT she's organising a DATE! I honestly don't feel some chick who thinks she's a too fat and that no one will ever love her and will always leave her because her mother was like that and she said they were so alike because they're both fat............. you wouldn't bother dating at all lmao. If your self esteem was as bad as this you wouldn't bother because you think no one would ever want you, right?
Anyway she's constantly thinking the whole book that he's only with her to save her friend and when the three weeks is up he'll dump her ass and then she's constantly accusing him of cheating because he won't tell her who's calling or he doesn't spend every waking hour with her. She gave me the biggest headache and she was constantly like 'oh how could someone so hot like me' and 'oh her doesn't love me waaaa' which is crazy since they just met. She legit asks him if he loves her lol.
Anyway, besides the heroine the rest of the book had issues too. For the length of this book, there was WAY too much going on.
I typically never write reviews but I never see this series recommended so I thought I would write one.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Timber Valley Pack series. I think St. Clair has some great storylines in each book. Each book features a different MF protagonist and each set of protagonists are connected in some way to the following set. Her characters are likable, realistic, and relatable so they were particularly fun to read about. Books 1-3 have a really great overarching storyline concept that builds in each book which is something I really enjoyed. Also, St. Clair has a talent for writing particularly spicy scenes 🌶
I would have rated this entire series 5 Stars if not for two issues.
1) Each book is pretty short- none reaching for 200 pages. However, the storylines St. Clair put together could easily support a longer narrative. There are several times when she had opportunities to delve into a subplot, provide more vivid description, or elaborate on skipped over (but implied) scenes. I found this disappointing because I definitely wanted more. 2) The editing of the books worsens as the books progress. By book 3, there are character name mix-ups so you need to be aware who should be speaking instead of reading the speaker named on the page. At one point in Book 4, the unveiling of the antagonist is spoiled by a name mix up in the previous paragraph.
St. Clair is definitely talented and I enjoyed this series very much and will be reading more of her books.
There was potential here, but at the end of the day there was just too much going on with none of it done as well as it could have been.
Josephine has agreed to take the place of her friend in an arranged marriage because her friend wants to marry someone she's in love with. On the day of the wedding, the groom she was intending to fool surprises her by knowing she's not who she claims to be.
And then we have pages and pages of the FMC weight shaming herself and wondering why a hot guy would pick her instead of a skinny girl and assuming he must be cheating on her.
Then there are a whole bunch of things going on with another pack and Josephine's friends, and honestly, it's a lot. Whenever a new problem is introduced, it's solved within a few pages, so there really isn't a lot of suspense with it, and it ends up feeling like it's just thrown in there to expand the page count.
There really wasn't a lot of relationship building between the MMC and FMC, either. They're always fighting and then doing some spanking as punishment for it, and then somehow they're madly in love.
While trying to save her friend Camile from an arranged marriage she ends up married to the most infuriating man ever. He insists on flirting with her even though the marriage is a complete sham and he is only teasing her. Nothing that hot could possibly ever be attracted to a overly curvy woman like her.
Maxwell is going to keep Josephine as his bride if it is the last thing he does. That adorable woman cannot see how amazing she is because of her childhood but he will make sure she knows just haw mouth-watering she is.
A woman who actually isn't perfect. Nice change. She isn't overly large but she isn't a twig either. Shes got a little bit of a belly, her thighs touch and she has got some other large assets. What is not to love. I can completely relate to not thinking that anyone would be able to love you because of being a thick girl. Well before my husband. Sorry, little off topic. This is a lovely story although the little twist at the end was bittersweet, but I'll let you come to your own conclusions there. Maxwell is basically what every woman wants. This is probably the second best book in the series so far.
