When a woman is abducted and the self-proclaimed "Merchant of Life" demands strict adherence to his impossible terms, the police are perplexed.
Private investigators, Jake & Annie Lincoln, are drawn into peril when the kidnapper demands Jake deliver the ransom money. The exchange takes place as planned, but when the abducted woman's body is discovered brutally murdered, the search for an unpredictable madman begins.
As the kidnappings continue, the Lincolns own lives are put in jeopardy as they scramble to unweave this baffling puzzle before the treacherous murderer can claim more victims, among whom may be the Lincolns themselves.

Rayven T. Hill was born in 1954 in Markham, Ontario. He has had a variety of occupations and careers since then, spending the last fourteen years as a computer programmer and web site designer.
His first novel, written in 1960, was an instant hit with his mother and one sibling. He then put his career as a novelist aside for half a century to concentrate on making a living, but has now ventured back into the world of writing.
His first real novel, Blood and Justice, was published as an eBook in June 2013.
I've been hooked on the 'Jake & Annie Lincoln Thriller Series' from the first book. 'Captive Justice' was as thrilling and full of action as the previous books in this series. The storyline was well thought out and well written. Jake and Annie are excellent allies when it comes to those in need of a PI. Annie is strategically smart and often overcomes the odds when she's pushed. Jake is smart and built like a linebacker. They make an awesome pair. The characters were an interesting array of personalities. I had no idea who exactly was involved in this case, so I was quite surprised at the outcome. Rosemary was definitely a force to reckon with. She's feisty, strong willed and full of fight. A great add to your tbr list. Definitely recommended.
“Captive Justice”, fourth in the 'Jake and Annie Lincoln' series, could have been so much better. The problem is, for me at least, is that the plot eventually replicates a famous Patricia Highsmith book (and a Hitchcock film of the same name). Almost any other ending would have worked much better. The self-described “Merchant of Life” is abducting women, demanding a ransom, and murdering them for 'breaking the rules.' For some reason, one that is never satisfactorily explained, he insists that P.I. Jake Lincoln must be the intermediary. For most of the book Jake and Annie make absolutely no progress until a completely off the wall discovery reveals the identity of the killer. As I have previously noted Jake and Annie are likeable characters but the plotting leaves a lot to be desired. 3 Stars.
In my opinion, the "Jake and Annie Lincoln" books are among the finest in the detective/thriller genre. Multi-layered plots, snappy dialogue, interesting secondary characters (Hank, Geekly, and Lisa Krunk, specifically) -- this is "the whole enchilada."
Captive Justice centers on a series of kidnappings of married women. The kidnapper insists that Jake Lincoln be the one to deliver the ransom money. But if the police get involved, or any little detail goes wrong, the so-called "Merchant of Life" has no compunction about killing his victims ....
I really enjoy the books in this series as they are easy, quick reading, but thoroughly entertaining. The way the Lincoln Investigation team work with the police is refreshing as usually the stories have PI's and police as antagonist towards each other. Others can post reviews of the book. I just know I enjoyed this one and am moving to next book. I recommend to anyone else who is a fan of this genre.
Kidnapping, killing, twist, and unexpected. Loved this book. It kept me wondering all the way to the end. Just when you thought you figured it out. It went another direction.
Follow Jake & Annie Lincoln as they deal with the latest bad guys. They aren't just investigating this time. They are in the thick of it. They struggle to get ahead of the bad guys but it's nearly impossible. Another great book by Mr. Hill.
You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so. Shelley MA
This is the second book of this series that I have read. It wasn't as captivating as the other, and some of the descriptive phrases become distracting. For example, every time someone has a conversation, he or she "leans forward". You could use that phrase for a drinking game if you're into that. The plot was just okay and it never really explains how the kidnapper knows Jake to get him involved. The motive turns out to be not worth all the fuss.
I downloaded Captive Justice as soon as I saw it was out and I wasn't disappointed. It was well worth the wait. It was hard to put the book down and I was intrigued until the last word. I look forward to the next great book in the Jake and Annie series!
The Lincoln teama are working in this mystery and obviously at some point they will be successful. But, the trip is fine with twists and turns to keep you interested and the characters are interesting.
J. Robert Ewbank author "John Wesley, Natural Man, and the Isms" "Wesley's Wars" and "To Whom It May Concern"
The basic plot was good. The ending was a clever, but the reasoning and technical aspects were full of holes. There was also too much irrelevant descriptive filler. If you can overlook those, it's worth reading The language was clean, and I appreciated that.
I am enjoying this series, even though I am not reading them in order.
It is fun to see the husband and wife partnership and their ability to work together. Sometimes I think they put themselves in situations that aren't 100% believable, but overall, I find the plots interesting and they definitely keep my attention from start to finish.
I like the series they are a nice quick read and they entertain me. Books have to be really bad for me not to give then 3 star ratings so I like most books that I choose. I'm on to the next in line Justice Overdue. Although I must say that Annie is most definitely the brains in this duo and I love it because he knows it too.
For once I didn't figure out what the characters. I got tired of Agatha Christy as I was able to predict the end. You kept me interested to the very end. Except for the van as I had worked in a body shop with my husband, so I knew how easy it was to change the color of a vehicle.Never suspected who the killers were.
The book was ok but not really that captivating. Quite subtle and there were always questions for me about why 2 private investigators involved with murderers weren't licensed to carry firearms. Kinda stupid in my mind. It never really captured my full attention.
I liked the plot. It showed real imagination. The author was good at moving the story along, but some of the details strained my credibility as is usual for this kind of more-or-less average detective story. I don't regret the time I spent reading it, but I don't think I'll take on any more in this series. There are better books out there...the problem is finding them.
The series has become boring. Each book has been well written but the story lines are becoming mundane. As I got to about chap there I felt like I had been here before. Perhaps it is the Lincoln characters. Not sure I will continue the this series.
I enjoy this series. The plot lines are good, the relationship between the Lincolns and the police is not to be believed, but it works for the storylines. Who is good and who is bad is never in doubt.
Love this author and his excellent style of writing. I absolutely love Jake and Annie. This book had the most unexpected surprises that totally blew my mind. This is a definite must read book. You won't be disappointed.
