WARNING: This book is borderline dark and not for the faint of heart.
Luke Isaak, the drummer for Blood Rights is on a mission. Machala Winters got away once and Luke is determined it will never happen again. She’s perfect for his sadistic proclivities.
Machala knows what she wants and if Luke would accept her submission and stop prying into her past, he would be at the top of the list. Some things are meant to stay buried and a certain Dom needs to respect her privacy.
Sometimes love hurts in more ways than one. And sometimes a Dom holds a girl’s heart forever.

Machala, otherwise known as the Ice Queen in the publishing world, has a reputation of cut throat business practices with an ice cold chilling demeanor that have elevated to the top though few realize that behind her public persona is a deep seated need that only one person has been able to provide. Luke. She cut off all ties with him when he got too close to uncovering the origin of her deviant need as it's a secret she has sworn to take with her to her grave.
Luke, drummer extraordinaire for the rock group Blood Rights, is a practicing BDSM sadist. His extreme need to inflict pain with a consensual sub makes it hard to find the right partner. Which is why Machala was perfect for him and him for her. She may have left him thinking they were through but he's not. It's time to reclaim his sub and remind her that while love hurts, pain can heal the most devastating of secrets and set her free.
Before I go any further, I would like to throw out a warning. There are dark overtones in the BDSM play scenes that some readers may object to. This book features a sadist Dom and a masochistic pain slut sub. Some of the scenes may be uncomfortable as extreme elements including needle, blood, and humiliation play are featured. Also included are m/m and m/m/f scenes. However, if you're someone who appreciates reads of these types... do check this one out.
I spotted this author early on in her career seeing the diamond in the rough potential. She has grown and evolved to the point that imho she's become a major contender in the BDSM erotica romance genre. Reading one of her books is to ride a roller coaster while wearing variable speed vibrators. They're that exciting and erotic.
In a very simplistic explanation, this was a story about two people. It is an out of the box slant on two people who had major issues and find love despite all the baggage they were carrying. It is edgy and gritty which I totally appreciated as everyone deserves to find a partner who completes them. In this case it was a sadist and a masochist. There is no suspense/thriller subplot or action-adventure scenes to supplement the core relationship as it evolved.
For the more complicated explanation of this story, this is a story featuring two people with sexual needs that not many would understand or condone. I totally fell in love with the main characters. Does that mean I'd want a Luke of my own? Hell no. Not for all the tea in China. Machala was harder to understand as she had needs that would have crucified her in the court of public opinion if it became known that she was a pain slut. Understanding that side of the relationship dynamics gave me insight into how a sadomasochistic relationship works and appreciating the way the author was able to portray it in such a positive manner.YKINMKBYKIOK (Your Kink Is Not My Kink But Your Kink Is Ok)
One last thing. I did mention there isn't any suspense/thriller subplot. That is essentially true EXCEPT there is a mystery that permeates the majority of the story. I won't give anything away and comment on it. Just know it's there and scared the shit out of me as this author has been known to do blindside twists and turns that I've hated her for in the past. I do plan to PM the author about THIS one. That is all. :D
This is a standalone installment in the Club Diablo series though cameo appearances do occur. For fans of dark contemporary BDSM erotic romance, this is definitely one I'd recommend you check out. Personally, I'm glad I've read the previous installments or I'd be doing a marathon session read of the series. But. I now have to stalk the author to find out when to expect the next installment. :D
WOW, this series just keeps getting better and better. I loved the way the relationship between Luke and Machala unfolded. It wasn't an easy read, but with her being a pain slut and Luke being a sadist they were perfect for each other.
This story was edgier than the others, containing breath play and needles, along with a number of other nasty delights. I found myself squirming in pain, yet aroused at the same time.
I loved catching up with characters from pervious books as well. The band truly is a close knit family, looking out for each other. Angela is still a favourite character of mine. Her happy moment with Krispin had me smiling like a loon.
This story flows brilliantly and is exceptionally well edited, something I treasure in an ebook these days.
Usually I fly through Holly Roberts book but not this time. I bought and starting reading right away. I was impressed with the beginning and then I ran into a problem. I had to stop and cry for a little bit then laugh at other parts back to crying again. My emotions were all over the place reading it. Luke not knowing how to fix the relationship and Machala not being able to open up will cause tears. At the same time the laughter will ring with some of the dialogue. Bringing others from past stories in was great to see how they are doing along with how Luke and Machala interact with them. I read it through once then decided I needed to reread it without all the emotion or at least I thought so. Cried almost as much the second time through. What an outstanding story. Yes it is much darker then most of the other books in the series. The emotions from the characters both mentally and physically were hard to read at time: however, I could not see these two people any other way. Bless you Holly Roberts for this roller coaster of a ride.
This story is one of the most intense rides I've taken in M/F Conteporary BDSM in a long, long time. Luke and Machala have broken up after an intense 4 months of Dom/sub action. Machala pulled the plug when Luke got too close to memories that haunt her and keep her from achieving orgasm without intense pain. Now he's back, asking for a date? Oh hell no, she says but that doesn't last.
Luke was not able to forget Machala, and he's determined to get her back and break her down, even if that means ignoring her safe word. The BDSM action between these two gets extreme, even for a pain slut like Machala. This story kept me on edge wondering what he would do to her next. Of course Machala would not break down until nearly the end when all the secrets of her nightmares come out.
Highly recommend this to all BDSM readers that appreciate rough play and non-con.
4.5 stars After the relatively mild bdsm of the other books in this series, the intensity of the sadism/masochism in this one took me aback at first. However, Ms Roberts did such a wonderful job with the characters in this book, I came away with a little more understanding that pain, for some, is a release. That it was weaved into a love story between two strong and caring people, was a pleasant bonus.
I'm a fan of Holly Roberts and her no holds bar, tell it like it is writing style. Temporary Dom is no different with the exception that it's deep, soul deep and not for those weak of heart or close minded. The readers that will get the most enjoyment out of this story are any that go in with their mind wide open. A great read for any fans of the genre that enjoy a great BDSM read with a VERY realistic feel.
Machala is a very strong woman that's unaware how deep her strength runs, or even of its existence. She's work very hard her entire life to get where she currently is. Which is a very successful and independent woman. The thing is, she also has needs that she doesn't have much time to explain or really much time for. These needs brings Luke into her life. Now it's up to fate and Machala if Luke stays in her life or not. IS she ready to open up and let someone in? You're going to have to read to find out ;)
A 4.5 rating rounded to a solid 5. Once again...bravo Holly!
This is the first book I've read in the series. I don't normally read a series out of order, but it was for a challenge, and looked like it could stand alone. And it did.
Luke and Machala were sadist and masochist dream match. The bdsm scenes were appropriate. (I hate when a mc is called a sadist, and then doesn't hold up to expectations) The scenes were hot, but did not take over the story.
I have so many feelings about this book that I am not sure where to start. This book is different from the other books that I have read in this series. I was kind of sad when I found out that this book was not the f/m/f that I thought it was going to be and I am glad simply put this book was good a few of the books in this series are on my favorites list "Krispin's book" being on of them and to me this book was better this book is not a light BDSM read. Luke Isaak, the drummer for Blood Rights who is also a sadist is on a mission. Machala Winters is a smart ass masochist that got away once and Luke is determined it will never happen again. Machala who owns her publishing company is known in the business world as "The Ice Queen". Luke and Machala had a D/S's relationship that ended six months ago due to her inability to open up about her past. Machala is a very strong woman that's unaware how deep her strength runs, or even of its existence. She's worked very hard her entire life to get where she currently is. Which is a very successful and independent woman. The thing is, she also has needs that she doesn't have much time to explain or really much time for. These needs brings Luke into her life. Now it's up to fate and Machala if Luke stays in her life or not. Machala uses pain to help her sleep, to keep her nightmares away. Luke is truly a sadist who's more than happy to give her what she needs, but he's met his match in Machala. They seem like the perfect D/s couple until fate steps in and they fall in love. I love reading Ms. Roberts's books they are always well written and the characters are also well liked and each of the females in this series are so strong in their own way. Angela and Krispin's book gave me all kinds of emotions and this one took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions as well. I loved that Luke was a sadist and Machala was a masochist they fit just right. I also liked that fact that we got updates on the other bandmates and I am looking forward to reading about the rest of them. This book had some of everything that I liked to read about when reading dark erotica from pet play to m/m scenes I hated that this book ended. The flow of this book was great. I highly recommend this book.
Not your typical BDSM story! Holly's done it again, a sexy sadist and hot, hot play scenes, definitely not for the faint of heart.
What makes this story different than your typical BDSM is the love story. For me the play scenes were icing on the cake, the real story was the journey between Luke and Machala.
At first Machala seems like your typical smart ass masochist, strong business woman by day with a need to submit and the mouth to get herself into trouble. Luke is truly a sadist who's more than happy to give her what she needs, but he's met his match in Machala. They seem like the perfect D/s couple until fate steps in and they fall in love.
Machala has a secret and it's holding her back from giving Luke her complete submission. Luke lost her once because he pushed to hard and this time he's determined he's not going to cross that line again, but can a dominant really be satisfied when he knows his sub and the woman he loves with all his heart is hiding something from him?
I laughed when Machala's sassy mouth got her into trouble, I squirmed when Luke reminded her who was in charge and I cried. I cried because I felt their pain and I cried again because I shared their joy.
Life is a journey and for some people it's a difficult one. For some survival makes you stronger but no one walks away from it without scars, and often the hardest ones to heal are the ones we carry on the inside.
I highly recommend this book, for the kink of course and even more for the love. If you enjoy this story I would also recommend you read the rest of the books in the Club El Diablo series.
This is my first Holly Robert's book, and I'm definitely going to have to start at the beginning of this series! Machala Winters is a publisher who has earned the nickname Ice Queen due to her ability to hold her own with the big boys. What no one else knows is that she's also a submissive and a masochist. Pain and then sex are the only things that can help her sleep. Nine months ago she began a weekend D/s relationship with Luke Isaak, drummer for the band Blood Rights, Dom and sadist. When he made demands that Machala open up about her past, she left him and its been six longs months since she's had any relief. Luke shows up at Machala's office one day, and asks her on a date. He has missed her and wants to do whatever he can go get her back. As much as she misses Luke, Machala isn't sure she'd survive another breakup with him if things didn't work out. But, he's persistent and they start seeing each other. I loved these characters - Luke is so very devious and creative in his scenes with Machala!! And I loved, loved, loved the very ending of the book!!
Machala "Ice Queen" Winters is a shark in the business world and masochistic submissive in private. Luke "Lefty" Isaak is thw drummer for the rock band Blood Righteous and an intense sadist. Machala ans Luke broke off a six month D/s relationship when she refused to fullt submit and also would not reveal her deeply hidden pain and secrets. Now months later he's back because Machala needs him and he loves her. He will not let her suffer anywhere. Getting to the truth is brutal., far from anything he imagined. With his help she finally begins to heal and he, in turn, can give her something missing from her life since her childhood.....peace.
This is a brutally harsh BDSM love affair but it is also an tale of love healing all wounds. Holly S Roberts has given us a sadistic, gorgeous, talented male and paired him with a beautiful, tortured masochist. It really addresses how buried shame and memories greatly affect us long after the event takes place.
Oh my, this book has been one marvelous, delicious, emotionally exhausting treat and goes right up on my keeper shelf. It's been slightly out of my comfort zone, not because of the close to dub-con sex scene but because the sadomasochistic pain play has been a wee bit too much for my liking. However, on the other side did the author sell me a heroine who needs the pain to find any kind of relief of her trauma and a kinky, loveable jerk of a borderline antihero that can turn incredibly sweet when he's finally allowed to love the woman of his life freely. A-
I thoroughly enjoyed the El Diablo series, but started this last book with deep trepidation. As I found my way through this book I realized I was reading about myself. Makayla and I are a lot alike. She use pain to control he’d mind I use food. Fortunately for her she found someone will to fight thru her complexities and I have not. I’m happy for her.
Ok, I'm not really sure how I want to rate this book. There were things I liked but then there were things that I didn't like with this book. There will be some spoilers in this review just be warned before you continue reading:
First the things I liked: Second Chance at Love - Machala and Luke were together for a few months before she broke it off, it is now six months later and Luke wants her back. I loved the way he went about getting her back, talk about doing things differently this time around, it was like a complete 180 from the way their last relationship was. Chemistry - Luke is a Sadist Dom and Machala is a masochistic submissive, while this isn't a Kink that I find appealing I will say that I very much enjoyed the way it was written. It gives you an insight to a different form of BDSM then most books portray. Friendship - Danny is Machala's assistant and her best friend, he along with Becky have helped Machala get through her break-up with Luke and Danny becomes very protective of her like a true friend would. Breaking down barriers While I always enjoy getting into someones head to get to know them better I didn't always agree with Luke's methods. Twist you don't see coming yep there was a big one and that is all that I will say about that!
OK, now for the things I didn't like Safewords - The use of a Safeword is sacred, if a submissive uses it's a Dom's responsibility to immediately stop, if he doesn't then how can a submissive ever feel safe? This part really annoyed me. I believe Luke thought he was doing the right thing and in the long run it did work but seriously once she used her safeword he should have regrouped and done something else to break down her walls. Standalone - While the synopsis says that it can be read as a standalone, "This is book III of Bad Boys of Rock, a Club El Diablo book and a standalone novel." for me it would have been better to read it in the order of the series. You have several people from prior books that were in this story and I would have loved to have read their books before this one.
Now you see there are many more things that I liked about the book then disliked but because of one of them I just couldn't give it the 4 stars that I would have liked to. This is a total hangup of mine but for me it's a big one. This is the first book that I have read by Holly S. Roberts and I look forward to reading more of her work.
Warning this book is NOT for faint of heart; this is not light BDSM, this is hardcore, Luke/Left is into pain he is a sadist so if you are reading to read hardcore then skip this one. If you are willing to take a chance this book is so worth it.
You can easily read this book stand alone, the books in their series share club; when you first start to read you may feel ike I did that you are missing something that is quickly rectified when that author takes you back a few months. Yes, this book jumps from past to present and back again a number of times and yes it is written in both POV’s which given the nature of the play between these two I think is very helped to reader. It truly allows the reader to see what Luke gets from inflicting pain and what Machala obtain from receiving it.
Luke “Lefty” Isaak is the drummer for Blood Rights, Machala Winters in a successful business woman with a dark past. A past that affects her deeply and crafts must of what happens in this dark and deeply powerful story.
Ms Robert’s did an amazing job at building a connection between Machala and Luke, it is so clear to the reader that they care about each other; that they forfill each other and that they satisfy and compliment each other. The nature of their relationship may not work for most readers but it so worked perfectly for them.
Since I have read a few of the prior books I do want to say I loved seeing Stephon, Matt and Jewel! The scene a Krispin’s house not only allows the reader to see the band mates but it added to the feel of Luke and Machala as the reader is allowed to see them interacting with others; seeing them stepping out of comfort zones and changing past patterns.
This story uses a secondary character, the band’s assistance Wade a few times throughout the book, these scenes were emotional, hot and used so well to illustrate the nature relationship between Luke and Machala. Again this relationship may not be one that would work for most readers but it so worked perfectly for them.
Despite the name this book is not about Temporary but about a forever one neither thought they would ever find.
The end wow the end, just when you think you have the end, the happy the end just keeps giving. Bravo, Ms Roberts!
I was blown away reading this awesome book! I found myself totally absorbed in Machala and Luke's relationship and refused to put it down until I finished it! Machala is a masochist who needs pain to feel pleasure and thought she found the perfect Sadist in Luke. Luke loves to give pain and knew Machala was the perfect woman for him but he refused to let her hide parts of her inner self and lost her when she had enough of his prying. Machala is a strong woman who has secrets that she refuses to reveal to anyone and gave up the one man who she felt such a strong connection to because of those secrets. Luke is an alpha man who won't give up Machala because of something in her past and will do whatever it takes to get her back. I loved the building of the complex yet very sexual relationship of these two strong and stubborn characters. This is a very well written and emotional story where the journey to a happy ending is not a smooth one. I highly recommend Temporary Dom to lovers of BDSM romances that feature a loving yet sadistic rock star who is attracted to a stubborn and secretive submissive with secrets to hide. Warning: this book does features heavy BDSM elements, if that is not something you enjoy reading, this is not the story for you.
What a great addition to The Club Diablo series. Holly has taken the series to another level of kink.
Luke and Machala had played together in the past, but they both started having feelings for one another and neither were ready to face those feelings. So when Machala ran Luke didn't give chase. It's been months since they were last together but Luke can't stop thinking of his sweet masochist and Machala craves for her sexy sadist to use her body as his drum set.
Luke wants it all this time around her body, heart, soul, and complete surrender. Machala wants the pain but she has to choose to give up her secrets before she can ever truly surrender herself to Luke.
Those 2 characters are perfect together. She is in need of not only Luke but the extended family he has as well. It was great hearing the goings on of the other band members. I can't wait to see what's in store for Wade.
I had never read or had any interest in reading BDSM books, I am a big paranormal fan and was part way through the fang chronicles by D'Elen McClain when I found she wrote under Holly Roberts too. I searched on Amazon and read the description on the beginning of Club El Diablo One Dom at a time, as it was free I thought I would give it a go, I became addicted and read each one that followed..... Then I started Bad Boys of Rock...I have been eagerly waiting to read Temporary Dom for a while, bought it and read it within a day, I just couldn't put it down. I'm not a fan of too much pain not even reading about it but the way Holly writes it from the perspective of each of the main characters you gain an understanding of them. I loved this book, if you like a kinky love story this is the book for you! Well done Holly, another great read
Although on the darker side - there's some fairly intense S&M - this is a really engaging read. I was totally drawn in by the dynamic between Machala and Luke. The progress of Machala's struggles to open up emotionally and submit were well paced by Luke's commitment to containing his need to control and give Machala some space to develop trust. Although the BDSM got a little strong, it was so well done that it was both intimate and erotic.
Unfortunately, the dynamic sort of fell apart in the end with a 'miracle' resolution to some of the key plot tension. I found it distracting to the point of breaking the fourth wall, and not essential to the HEA for Luke and Malacha.
I will definitely check out other books by this author.
Absolutely stunning novel!!! I was so captivated by the story and the overall theme. Even though this true sadist style did not appeal to me, I could not put the book down! Will definitely be reading some more of her novels!
