"Riding the Waves: The Price of Fame and Fortune" by Selena Haskins is a thoughtful and deep novel that - as the title so rightfully announces - takes a good look at the desire and cost of fame.
In the first part of the book several characters of the book are shown reading and internally commenting on a 'tell-all' book by Tracey, who exposes just a little too much for most people's liking about her - and via that also their - private life/ lives.
I found this change of perception a great way of introducing all the characters of the story: The mother, who used to be a star, too, the ex-boyfriend, the best friend, the brother....
While most shrug the book off and take the mis-representation without much drama, Tracey's ex-boyfriends decides to seek revenge and Tracey's plan backfires as the reader follows the second half of the book.
This is a clever and very rewarding way of telling this story.
Although I had come to dislike Tracey at first because of her selfish attitude, Haskins manages to portray her character with more compassion and lets things take their own dramatic course.
This is a book of wonderful family values, a story of redemption and forgiveness, faith and hope. Its humanity is touching and its message heart warming.
Very enjoyable.

“Riding the Waves: The Price of Fame and Fortune” by Selena Haskins had me intrigued from page one. I immediately fell in love with the initial characters, Connie and Dean, and had no expectation of where the story was going to take me. Let’s just say I was pleasantly surprised. Oh – and let me just interrupt myself to mention that I didn’t even realize that this Book was a sequel until I had started it! But it’s a great stand-alone. I didn’t feel lost or confused at all. In the beginning we find out that Connie is about to read a tell-all book, written by her daughter Tracey. I loved this concept and how it was executed. Haskins did a great job weaving in and out of storylines to show the powerful emotions and actions of how money and fame really can change people. “Riding the Waves” The Price and Fame and Fortune” by Selena Haskins is a must-read for those who enjoy captivating stories with valuable life lessons.

Selena Haskins continues the story of the main family from A River Moves Forward. Riding the Waves focuses on the next generation where the story centers on Connie’s daughter, Tracey- a rising star. Selena uses brave writing techniques as the story is told through Tracey’s tell- all book and shows how it impacts those around her. Many are not happy with what she has shared. Selena also uses real movies from certain eras as Tracey’s acting career takes off which was another bold writing technique. There is a lot of drama as the families try to deal with a host of unresolved issues and those who know life can easily identify with these situations. It is truly moves at a fast pace as Selena Haskins pulls it into well-rounded loop. She reconnects Tracey’s story to the key characters from the first book, A River Moves Forward, as the families are steered back on track and work as a unit

Selena Haskins deserves 10 stars for this book. Why? She has taken the time to write a book that takes you into real life and keeps you captivated as you read each page. This author knows how to develop her book characters in such a way that we can all relate to and at the same time wonder what is going to happen next. Hats off to an author that has followed her dream of writing and I continue to marvel at each of her books that I read. I won't give out the plot of this book - so you have to read it for yourself. I cannot wait to read her next book. Hmmmm, I wonder what she has in store for us... This is a must read book for anyone who wants a book that cannot be put down until it has been read. Keep writing Selena!

Very good story. I slipped on not knowing that there was another book before this one. None-the-less, I enjoyed the storyline. Racy came a long way from her beginnings. The drama that was told really connected with me. The story was well written and it flowed well even though I felt that the story was too long. Over all this was a very good story. Must go back and read the others.

Riding the Wavex

I loved the continuation from the previous book. Finding out what happened to Connie, Dean, Tracey and the rest of the characters both old and new was satisfying. I wasn't sure how I felt about the book being a story within a story but it worked out well. I'm wondering if there's another book in the series.
