Emmalee Gray watches in frustration as her fiance boards a train west. Told to stay behind and prepare for their wedding, Em has other ideas. She doesn't want to remain home without him, especially with her witch of a step - mother and a papa, who barely knows she exists. She'd much rather risk Clint's wrath and follow him. Her plan, to stay hidden until she gets far enough away from Boston he wouldn't dare send her back alone. Then she can enjoy some private time and maybe a little adventure with her gorgeous fiance, in advance of their nuptials. Clinton Ryan boards a train for Denver to take care of some ugly business from his past. He'd rather keep the reason for his trip quiet, particularly from Emmalee, until he figures it all out. Content in the fact that his pretty, young bride-to-be is safe at home under the watchful eye of her papa, he boards his train west. When a near fatal accident occurs on the rails, he is surprised to find she has followed him. Now he is stuck with a city-bred debutante on the trail west. Unfortunately, for Emmalee, she is a magnet for trouble and finds herself in one scrape after another. To keep her safe, Clint lays down the law, obey his orders, or suffer the consequences over his knee. Can they make it to Denver in one piece? When they do, and Clint's shocking past is revealed, how will Emmalee react? With danger and intrigue swirling around them at every turn, can their love survive?

All the books in The Sons Of Johnny Hastings box set are fantastic and this one is no exception. Unlike the others this one actually starts with the hero, Clinton, finding out about his late father's will reading and heading off west in order to attend. He has no idea that his fiancee, Emmalee, has decided to follow him all the way from Boston and is currently in the same train until a sudden derailment brings everything out in the open.
Clinton is especially grumpy - even for a son of Johnny Hastings but Emmalee is innocent and feisty and more than a little disobedient and they make a great match. He doesn't hesitate to put her over his knee when she deserves it but he also admits his own mistakes and seems willing to grow.
Emmalee and Cliff were to be married soon. Out of nowhere Clint told her he had to go to Denver on business. They lived in Boston and Emmalee knew what a trip that would be. He forbid her to join him as he would be going out west and it was not safe to take her. Emmalee decides to go anyway, she buys a ticket on the same train but different car. This story will make you laugh, cry and take a cold shower. A five star book and Author ❤️❤️.
Emmalee Gray sneaks and boards the train to Denver from Boston following her fiancé when he does not tell her why he is traveling there on business. He is in first class and she stays in second class. She doesn't go to the dinner car to eat, trying to stay hidden. Well, a when the train derails and she is injured, Clint Ryan, who is her fiancé finds her when they are helping injured passengers. She is taken to a motel where a doctor is summoned and deems her ok, just bruised. The next day Clint finds the minister and they are married, against her wishes. Clint takes and spanks her the next day and tells her she will stay they until he returns to get her, needless to say, she doesn't and follows him. Clint paddles her bottom multiple times on their trip. But he also teaches her the relationship between a husband and wife.
This one is a little different in that Clinton and Emmalee are from Boston. Emmalee is engaged to Clint when he finds out about his father. Clint was adopted as a baby by a prosperous couple in Boston. He is a shipbuilder. Emmalee is a proper young lady. When Emmalee questions where Clint is going, she is spanked because she won’t accept that it doesn’t concern her. So, when Clint leaves the next day on the train, she buys a ticket and follows him. This is the start of the troubled that Emmalee gets into. Clint has to rescue her many times, and she gets spanked many times as well. The spankings and the lovemaking are very hot! I liked Clint and Emmalee as a couple. Clint is overprotective, but he thinks that Emmalee is a strong person. I really liked this next addition in the series. 5 stars
Now this is the first book I've read by Maddie Taylor but judging by this book it won't be the last. This was wonderfully romantic, and beautifully done. The only complaint I have is that I didn't want it to end it wasn't long enough.
