In 1946-1947 a great movement of fasting and prayer was spawned, first in America and then the rest of the world. Franklin Hall's book 'Atomic Power With God Through Fasting and Prayer' was the spark that ignited the hearts of thousands to go on extended fasts, to seek God for revival and the restoration of spiritual gifts to the church. Many went on 40-day fasts.
In 1947-1952 the great healing revival broke out through the ministries of William Branham, Oral Roberts, T. L. Osborne and a host of others who began to experience gifts of the Holy Spirit.
They began to see extraordinary miracles in their ministries and thousands were converted and healed.
Most of these itinerant evangelists followed Hall's practice of fasting. In 1948 the "Latter Rain" outpouring visited North Battleford, Canada, and swept into the United States.
The leaders all agreed that it was after reading 'Atomic Power' that they entered a season of the "grace of fasting" which, after three months, resulted in a powerful outpouring of the Spirit restoring spiritual gifts and ministries to the church.
It also led them into employing the 'laying on of hands' for healing and for imparting the gift of the Holy Spirit. The truth of fasting with prayer was a major catalyst in this revival.

I've had many of my questions about fasting answered by this book. I really like the revelations regarding the relationship between fasting and the Power of God. I also like the revelations about the obstacles and hindrances in our lives that are not removed by prayer alone, but by fasting and prayer. But what I liked best about the book was the practical advice on HOW to fast--especially for longer periods of time--lasting from 21 to 40 days. This includes identifying the typical reactions your body will go through during long fasts, such as how much time is required for hunger and weakness to leave.
Atomic Power With God Through Fasting and Prayer is a great read for every Christian who seems to keep "going around the mountain." If you want breakthrough, want to draw closer to God, fasting is the key. This book has scripture, advice, and testimonies of what fasting can do for you, spiritually and naturally.
Very good read. I would recommend this book to any person who is ready to go beyond the average and mediocre and enter into supernatural means of getting answers to their prayers.
I finished this book about a month ago, and I’ve waited a while to write this review to adequately reflect and try to articulate my thoughts. Really wild book…lots of grass, definitely lots of weeds.
To start with the good: this book effectively illustrates to readers the power and importance of fasting in the Christian prayer life. Lots of really cool testimonies. It challenged and prompted me to prioritize fasting as a part of my rhythm with God! Amen!
As for the weeds…..it’s definitely weedy. Granted, Franklin Hall is an interesting man. His life, ministry, and involvement with The New Order of the Latter Rain movement make him one of the most controversial Christian leaders in recent Church history. For good reason.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciated this book and learned a lot about fasting!! HOWEVER…I think Hall’s undergirding theology — that’s embedded all over this book — is really dicey. Obviously, it’s the prosperity gospel, but with an even more bizarre flare. Hard to pin point exactly. The underlying notion of a transactional exchanges with God felt familiar to me (as someone who grew up exposed to a lot of prosperity gospel teaching), and it’s a TEMPTING message that can be hard to discern. Especially if you’re desperate for breakthrough or relief. Like “here’s this awesome testimony from someone who fasted x amount of days, so now I’m drawing the conclusion that fasting x amount of days yields this result.” Not to belabor my point, but I found it to be extremely spiritually disorienting.
So overall, beautiful testimonies, praise God! But, requires a lot of spiritual energy/investment to sort through the sticks. If you’d like to learn about fasting, I would recommend other resources instead of this book. Or, I would recommend doing your full research on Hall’s life and ministry to fully be aware of the spiritual / psychological tenants that guide his theses presented in this book.
This is an old book, but rich in its contents. Not much is discussed now about fasting, so make sure to consume the "meat" of this resource! (pun intended)
This is such an amazing relevant narrative on the power of fasting. I came away enlighten in the practicals of fasting as well as the conviction of the need for it in my spiritual walk.
This is one of the recommended reads by my church for 2018 in preparation for Kingdom Invasion and the prophecy by Billy Graham about Singapore being the Antioch of Asia.
Don’t be fooled by the thickness of this book, it packs a punch! Franklin Hall’s classic ranks among other heavyweights like Bro Lawrence’s Practice of the Presence of God and Rees Howells’ The Intercessor.
You know it is a heavyweight when all throughout the book I’d say to myself “wow, why have I never seen it in this light...” My paradigm in fasting has been challenged and I am so moved to take action. Who would ever think that hunger/fasting was so vital for health spiritually and physically?
A must-read for every Christan looking to take the words of Jesus seriously and live it out.
I really enjoyed this work as a solid teaching on the practicality of fasting. This book is informative of the physical attributes of fasting, while making clear connection to the spiritual aspect of the discipline. In essence, fasting cleans your body, kills the desires of the flesh, and eliminates areas of unbelief as to invite God to move through you with power. This is a nice, short read for anyone interested on the topics of fasting, discipline, and developing faith.
What an amazing book describing both the spiritual and physical effects of fasting and prayer. This book will encourage you to take a step of faith into the fasting lifestyle to see the powerful works of God come alive in your own life. The testimonies will make you say, I want to see that in my lifetime.
An eye opening book to a subject that many don’t know about
I loved how it broke down fasting into the steps, had studies/science to show the benefits of fasting and empowered readers to fast despite the negative connotation that modern society has about this act
“One day while in deep consecration the Spirit spoke thus: "My son, as I was with Price, Wigglesworth and others, so will I be with thee. They are dead, but now it is time for you to arise, to go and do likewise. You can cast out devils; YOU heal the sick; YOU raise the dead; YOU cleanse the lepers. Behold I give you power over alt the power of the enemy. Be not afraid. Be strong. Be of good courage. I am with thee, as I was with them. No evil power shall be able to stand before THEE all the days of thy life, as you get the people to believe my Word. I used those men in their day; now I desire to use THEE."”
“When we fast and pray, we should never lose sight of the fact that our FAST must be for THE GLORY OF GOD, that Jesus shall continually have ALL PRAISE, HONOR, AND GLORY. A continual PRAISE, along with our PRAYERS, SHOULD ALWAYS BE IN OUR HEARTS TO OBTAIN THE FULLEST SPIRITUAL RESULTS. In other words, make it a time of FASTING AND PRAISE FOR THE GLORY OF GOD.“
Food has clearly overtaken us in the 21st century. Habit hunger which he defines as a 'lust'-eating more than is necessary for the pleasure of it all the time. Interesting observations he makes Four essentials: THE FIRST GREAT ESSENTIAL TO LIFE IS AIR, NOT FOOD. Can't survive five minutes without it. THE SECOND IS NOT FOOD, AS SOME WOULD SUPPOSE, BUT WATER. Can't go weeks without. THE THIRD, IS STILL NOT FOOD, BUT SLEEP. Lab rats fed and drank died after five days of sleep deprivation. FOOD IS THE FOURTH GREAT ESSENTIAL. Can go about forty days or more without it on water. How did it become #1? Makes a great case for fasting, especially protracted water fasts. Some of the science to back up the claims is spurious. But convincing nonetheless.
Practical advice on how to start sustain and break long fasts without the modern day claims that such fasts are dangerous bla.
In this power-packed hall Evangelist Hall shares powerful insights from God's word and amazing testimonies of deploying intentional the atomic power in fasting and praying.
Fasting is parallel to Faith, fasting helps us release faith for major victories in life and a deeper spiritual walk with God.
Fasting takes the spotlight off the flesh, helps us add zeal to prayer, and pushes us deeper into a more intimate, supernatural walk with God
Fasting is a healthy and profitable practice that has birthed great revivals and deeper manifestations of Spiritual fruits, gifts, and anointings.
It is a book for anyone who wants to learn more about fasting and how to go about long fasting in a healthy way.
You don't read a book like this primarily for its timelessness, nor its theological specifics. You read a book like this for its tone and authorial intent. This book gives you both conviction and style in spades.
You can practically taste the sawdust kicked up from the floor of these revival meetings. At times the book switches into ALL CAPS, which accomplishes exactly what those initial transcripts intended. The work is punctuated by letters sent to the author as testimonials of the truth of his ministry. As a time capsule to the healing movements of the 1960s, there's no better starting place than a book like this.
The books I actually read was The Return of Immortality by Rev.Franklin Hall, softcover 82 pages booklet made 1976. Their was no title of this this book on goodreads , so I did my reviews on another book page of Dr. Halls... The book that I read was okay, nothing too great due to what it seems like Hall is practicing the Occult while spreading the world of Jesus... keeps taking about miracle substance and antigravity force and with prayers and fasting... it is a great book if you want occult methods in your life, but this fails to deliver its impact on me...
I’ve ready many books on fasting but this one takes the cake (literally!) if you are hungry for more of Christ, if you are wondering why we don’t see the signs following them that believe, then read this book . Set your mind to say yes because without a doubt , there is an invitation to go somewhere you have never been before that lays in the pages of this book and is for every true believer .
Put it in to practice by faith. Faith naturally leads to a change in daily living, a difference in how we do things. Faith is obedience. God is the promise keeper. Whoever fasts in secret, God rewards openly! Prayer and fasting is truly an “atomic bomb”. To detonate this bomb we must pay the price —>fast and pray. May God be glorified in all the earth. His Kingdom come His will be done.
This book is phenomenal. Everyone who is interested in fasting and prayer should make this a part of their reading and prayer book regiment. The knowledge, the testimonies and the strength increases the confidence of fasting. It was hard for me to find a copy but it seems to be on Amazon as well as abebooks.com
This is a great introductory book into the benefits of fasting. I now see why some religions instruct their followers towards a period of fasting. This is a facet of life I’d like to include in my life for the spiritual, psychological, and physical benefits to be gained from the practice.
Excellent book with great answers to questions regarding both physical and spiritual benefits of fasting. Although written in 1946, the things I read are quite similar to those I searched out on the net. There is so much in this short book on how to , when to, fast and even after fasting that this book deserves a read by any health and or spiritually concerned person.
Amazing and profound. But be careful to read it with your heart in the right place. The book may seem to be legalistic or extreme otherwise. And remember the time in which it was written when concidering the medical advise.
Great read, wish I would have come across this earlier in my walk. But it is never to late to learn more about accessing the power God has promised is available.
