The most difficult good byes are the ones you never get to say.
September First is twelve hours of life lived on the edge of insanity, where creative talent is a Janus-faced blessing.
Twelve short, intense hours in the lives of English Poets, Jack O. Savage and Indie Shadwick, ending in a passionate culmination. "Live to love and love to live, Jack" says Indie, a genius trapped in a bi-polar world of dysfunction. The love of her life is Jack O Savage, adored by millions. Will her violent jealousy ruin everything? Indie Shadwick inspires her lover to storm the world with his creations, but what does he really want? The poems ruin everything by clamoring, begging her to give them form. Something must give. The shadow of psychosis stalks her mind but can the magic of Jack's love save her or betray her in the end?
HUNTER S. JONES is the pen name for USA Today best-selling author Deb Hunter. She's also a historical presenter for Past Preservers Casting. When she isn’t writing, talking or tweeting about kings, queens and rock stars, she’s living the dream in Atlanta, Georgia with her Scottish born husband.
One dependable truth about Hunter S. Jones’ writing is that the reader will always be surprised. She is one of the few who can write a series without ever repeating what has happened in a previous book, and I appreciate that. For those fans of her September series, we now have the prequel that centers around the poet Jack O. Savage and his poet lover Indie Shadwick. Indie’s verses talk to her, asking to be written, and the details of a poem unfolding are fascinating. Do not think this is fanciful fiction. As a poet, I once needed 22 sonnets for a book I was writing but couldn’t get #11. I went outside to the Earth and Sky but they crushed me and I cried, because I talked to my verses but there was no reply. So I understand perfectly Indie’s intense relationship with words. Whether bi-polar like Indie or not, anyone involved in the creative process will recognize the consummation of one’s personality to the voice of the verse. We also see another facet of Jack O. Savage as described by Indie (so different than Liz Snow’s take in previous September books). I highly recommend this heart-breaking novel of mental illness, creativity, and profound love.
September First is the prequel to September Ends. Poets Jack O. Savage and Indie Shadwick share a love, struggle with inner demons and deal with passion and tragedy. Short dramatic read, but what a story.
I will preface this by saying, I am a Hunter Jones fan. I have read everything she has written and will continue to do so. September First, for me, was a difficult read, and a wonderfully good way. I couldn't sit down and read the whole thing in one sitting, it was too overwhelming. Indie's descent into madness was so well written and engrossing that you fell over the edge with her. Then the scenes written from Jack's perspective was so visceral that you felt his pain watching the woman he loves fall farther and farther from him even as she drew closer to him physically. The entire book, a true artists struggle with their gift and all the good and bad that comes with the accolades and backlash, was well written and unique in its artistry and imagery.
Another beautiful book by author Hunter S. Jones. This is the prequel to the best selling book, September Ends. After reading this treasure, I now understand more about Jack O. Savage and his poet lover Indie Shadwick. This is a compelling short dramatic read that addresses mental illness, love, and obsession.
An amazing novel where passion and creativity mingles with mental illness and tragedy! September First is an intense and poetic, full of passion and creativity work about poet Jack O. Savage and his bi-polar poet lover Indie Shadwick. I immensely enjoyed this magnificent and heart-breaking novel by a talented author and a brilliant poet.
Sensual, and thought provoking poetry. The poems paint pictures vividly and invoke so many emotions. Linked to the September series by this author, the verses answer some questions. A lovely read like songs for the soul.
The prequel to Hunter S. Jones' brilliant romance novel September Ends (co-authored like that book, with an unnamed English poet) is the tragic story of the love between poets Indie Shadwck and Jack O. Savage. Jack, a brilliant, driven erotic poet, and Indie, the haunted genius who is his only muse, create artistic magic together. But their love comes at a terrible price for the demon-haunted Indie - and, ultimately, for Jack, as well.
If you loved September Ends, and wondered why Jack was so determined not to allow himself to love Liz Snow, this short novel will answer that question with heartbreaking clarity. Highly recommended.
Brilliant Literary Insight This review is from: September First (September Stories Book 4) Prequel to September Ends, the two poets, Jack and Indie struggle with her inner demons. She realizes that she is bi-polar, (or multi-polar). We listen in to her crazy thoughts as she struggles to stay in her good self, talks to the moon, and to her poems who are competing to be let out. She grasps for a hold on sanity, turning first to Jack Savage for sex and to Jack Daniels for calm. She hovers on the, line between genius & madness. Fans of the September series will love it. Brilliant literary insight into the the mind as insanity calls. Short dramatic read.
