This was a very short story and it sort of sets the stage for the rest of the series.

Here we meet Sam who's back in San Francisco for his college reunion. We know from his musings that he used to be in love with his roommate Brian. Upon his arrival at his old house, he is met with Jacob, Brian's brother, and the story takes off from there.

As I said, it's very short, but despite this, it is steamy and managed to capture my attention till the end such that I had to read the entire series (3 books) in one sitting.

The Return starts off with a lot of exposition, much of which involves a character (Brian) whom we never meet. We learn that Sam, the main character, used to live with Brian (who's straight) and had the hots for him so Sam moved to New York so he didn't have to lust after in him in futility. Now Sam has returned for his his ten year college reunion and is staying with Brian and Brian's insatiably horny younger brother Jacob, who answers the door in his underpants and has no personality. It's at this point where we realize what the story is about and wonder when it's going to get there, but first Sam needs to take a nap after struggling with his inner demons about how hot he thinks Jacob is. The fact that the last time Sam saw Jacob was when Jacob was eleven would have been enough to give someone pause, but Sam is more concerned about what Brian would think. After Sam has a refreshing nap he interrupts Jacob in the middle of some intense self-pleasuring and they get it on.

Needless to say, the writing could use some work. There is a lot of unnecessary adverbs and stilted dialogue. There are some weird phrases like, "The wooden panel was hard like his ****." Neither Sam nor Jacob are well thought-out characters. We understand where Sam is coming from but know little else about his personality or what he's like or who he is. Jacob is little more than a sex-object who likes to ask questions. There's also an unnecessary level of profanity, with Sam exclaiming things like "F*** yeah!" and "F***!" It doesn't add anything to the story and it sounds awkward. The story also ends abruptly and reveals an unexpected and unpleasant aggressiveness in Sam.

When the two characters do get it on I enjoyed it. I wasn't bored like I am with some stories, and it wasn't like a lot of stories where a grumpy dominant tackles a cardboard submissive. The act itself was somewhat emotionless but possible romance was implied until dominant grumpiness reigns supreme at the end. I did find it exciting and ultimately that's important with any story of this genre. I feel that if the author wanted to explore more than just this particular hookup he should have delved into the characters more and in a more effective and seamless way. If he wanted a tighter story focusing on the main act he could lose a lot of the exposition and boyfriend speculation towards the end. A lot more sensory details could be used, particularly at other times in the story when they're not getting it on.

I do feel that there is a lot of promise here and I looked forward to reading more from Mr. Wilson.

This is a very short story and due to it’s length can’t really go very far. In it Sam briefly pines after Brian but ends up having sex with Jacob, Brian’s much younger brother.
We are left wondering what will happen between the two, it’s not a HEA or even a HFN, it’s just an event.
It is a very erotic, well written encounter, but not much beyond that. If I’m being honest, it felt like a letter to Penthouse – a small fantasy interlude.
(One criticism I had: the two do not engage in safe sex and that made me a little uncomfortable, and also supported my theory that this was more a fantasy than a story.)
I liked the telling of this fantasy, wanted to know what happens next, and I really wished there was more to it. I hope Mr. Wilson will do more with it one day.
Overall Impression:

2.5 stars – It was good- too short though

This was a very short read but an enjoyable one. It’s so short there’s not enough time for the characters to develop and we don’t get to know much of them. We’re only shown glimpses of their lives and of who they are. But the sex scenes are hot and intense. And as a friend of mine says, it’s excellent for a "one-handed reading”.

Hot! But it felt like the beginning of a book. Where's the rest? What happened with Brian? Is Sam going to tell Jacob who he was in love with? Is Brian really straight? Did Sam know for sure? I'm left with a bunch of questions...Still, Hot!
