I really liked Tracks, the first book of the Rock Bottom series by Sarah Biermann. When I was asked to review Trials I jumped at the chance. I just HAD to know what happened with Dylan and Jeremy. At the end of book Tracks Dylan and Jeremy have decided to call it quits despite being madly in love. They were still in contact but they weren't "together."
Fast forward a bit and we arrive at Trials. Dylan is in her 3rd year of law at the very prestigious Harvard University. Jeremy has cut off all contact with her and left the door wide open for Scott to take his place. When ever Dylan hears Jeremy's name mentioned on TV or radio she immediately turns the station, she avoids all print publications with him in them.
Dylan is awarded an internship at the DA's office in Boston, her dream job. She comes face to face with Jeremy who is a suspect in a murder investigation they are working on. Did he do it?
I liked this book, but I didn't love it. To me there were so many issues with Dylan I wanted to slap her! Ahh, HELLO ex-boyfriend = conflict of interest!! I was so pissed off at her, this was her dream, to be a prosecutor! OMG! UGH!
And poor, poor, Scott. I really loved his character and I felt was a much better choice for Dylan. I guess the heart wants what it wants. I really, really despise cheaters. Strike #2 against Dylan.
I really don't want to go into too much more and ruin the outcome for my readers, but I just couldn't connect with Dylan in this book. I really didn't like her at all.
This book was just 3 stars for me, Tracks was much better.
Again, just as great as the first one but still gut wrenching, Dylan, she was a great character and I also loved Scott and his love for Dylan but Jeremy touched my heart and the best thing about this story is yes he's a rock star but he has his own story and it's not a nice one, as in my first review, this was a perfect balance and I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT but I'm having Jeremy withdrawal!!
Well, I still am not buying these two. Jeremy was so sweet and endearing one minute to turn around and be a complete idiot and out of line the next. I disliked Dylan more for trying to move on and lying to herself and her boyfriend. There was a level of dysfunction here that is not attractive or enjoyable to read. I still gave this 2-stars because I was still intrigued to know what happened.
