Jennifer and Paul have been coworkers for three years and kept a strictly professional relationship. Nothing personal was ever shared between them at Paul's request. This didn’t stop Jennifer from developing feelings for Paul. The two are given an assignment to do an expose' on a BDSM club that could make or break the TV station they work for. Some underhanded dealings are going on at the station's management level that they are not aware of. In the meantime their relationship becomes more than platonic as the story they are working on develops.
This book is the first published novel by this author. I was not thrilled by it. To start off I didn’t like the cover. There was too much background “noise”. I love BDSM novels but this book felt like the author was trying to throw in everything he knew about BDSM. The sex scenes were pretty good considering that they were written by a straight guy. Some of the pacing got a little slow but it still kept my attention. There were plenty of typos. The characters didn’t thrill me. I just couldn’t connect with them. Paul was a little too normal. In a novel I like my doms to be more dominant. The only thing that seemed dominant about this guy was his “voice”. And then he lapses into this formal way of talking that just seemed corny. Jennifer blushes at the drop-off a hat like she’s a teenager instead of a woman in her mid twenties, and then there is her incessant giggling, and the stuttering. (rolling my eyeballs) Also Jennifer’s “honey” dripped so much it ran down her legs. WTF?! I could see that the author was experienced in working at a TV station. He knew plenty about the workings behind the camera as well as the jargon. The fantasy scene kind of jerked me out of the story’s general plot. It seemed unnecessary. The detailed role playing was over the top. It could have or should have been a novella or a short story in the back of the book. Another thing that irritated me was that Paul wanted Jennifer to get used to wearing six inch heels. High heels put the feet at an angle and pull muscles and joints out of alignment, so the effects aren’t limited to the feet. It’s not unusual for people who spend lots of time in high heels to have low back, neck and shoulder pain because the shoes disrupt the natural form of the body. Do Doms really want to inflict this onto their submissives? I know that there are stretches and exercises that alleviate the pain but I just think it’s wrong to ask this of someone even if they agree to it. From all of the sex this couple had in their first two days in their sexual relationship I’m surprised that Jennifer didn't get “honeymoon bladder”. I know of this from experience. One glaring discrepancy in the story is where, at 64%, Paul says that he didn’t know that Jennifer owned stockings and a garter belt. But back at the 35% mark there is a scene where Jennifer takes off her clothes and stands before Paul in just her bra, panties, garter belt and stockings. He would not have forgotten this.
One thing that I really liked about this book was the sample BDSM checklist at the back of the book. I felt that it was very detailed and probably the best I’ve ever seen.
