Wow I actually LOVED this.
This is a self-help book that requires nothing but self-reflection and imagination. Hello hi I am HERE for that.
So often, I find these self-help books ask me to write things down, or spend x amount of time doing this one thing, etc. Bro I'm reading a book, I don't want to stop for all of that stuff! So this was PERFECT for me.
I found it particularly useful in the audio format - I could be out walking and still practice these visualisations. It was quite relaxing, actually!
They seem ridiculously basic but that is what makes them so practical. These are all such small practices that trying them out is easy - there's no down side to giving it a go, and the worst that can happen is absolutely nothing. So I really warmed up to the exercises and appreciated their simplicity.
I truly love how the mind works sometimes.
The only downside for me really was the pace of the narration. I found I had to listen to it quite fast and there were still some long pauses that took me out of it. The narration itself though was clear and energetic, and as its narrated by the authors you can hear the belief in their voices. It added a lot of authenticity to this that was quite essential.
I'd easily recommend this to others on a self-improvement journey, and just anyone that wants to play around with some perfectly harmless visualisation exercises that may improve your life.
What a fascinating book! I am not quite the right audience for the book so almost gave it 4 stars. But is it fair to complain that a book isn't what I want it to be when it completely fulfills exactly what it sets out to do? I suggest listening to the audio version - not only is it like sitting down with two enthusiastic friends, it is easier to stay in the moment, listening to instructions, without having to consult a physical book. That said, it would also be nice to have a paper copy for notetaking. (And this is why I have so many books in multiple formats. My brain loves it, my budget, not so much.) Despite not being the audience for the book, I have already suggested it to several friends who are. I appreciated hearing the authors' personal stories and am genuinely curious now about the techniques described in the book. Thank you to Deganit Nuur and Tim Murphy for sharing their hearts with openness and kindness, Brilliance Audio, and NetGalley for the audioARC.
Imagine is a beautifully written book that I’m so glad I read. I loved every chapter in this book and feel like I’ll be able to implement each tool. The authors (who I love by the way) made sure to fully explain and break down easily how to create your own “toolbox” so to speak. I actually am going to order a physical copy of this book to loan out or to re-read as needed, as I feel it’s a necessity on my bookshelf. I listened to the audiobook and both of the authors and narrators did a phenomenal job. A special thank you to both of them. 💖💖
I would like to thank Brilliance Publishing and NetGalley for giving me an ALC (which did not sway my opinions or review).
Loved it! I read it first and then listened to it. I'd probably want to do it the other way around next time. It's nice ot listen and just generally vibe with the material before trying it out. I like taking notes and all so I opted for the print version first and it is satisfying to hold and you can tell there's a lot fo love put into the reviews and other such details. It does have parts that you can assess yourself or learn about yourself. I wish there was more space within the actual book to write down reflections or a workbook to compliment it. I have a journal nearby for when I'm reading/practicing the tools. One thing I will say is that the tone of the authors is really inviting and soothing and encouraging. They're not super sterile so you can't relate to them but not so enthusiastic about your growth that it feels almost patronizing. It's weird to say about people I've never met but it really does feel like they're rooting for you. They want you to experience what they've seen others expereince, too. It's pretty sweet.
I listened to this book on audio and it was a really pleasant experience. They were all wonderful visualizations and I really appreciated the real world suggestions and the actual scripts. I didn’t find them to be new or extraordinary but they were good and it gave me peace to think and spend time on each of them.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing for this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts. Thank you for this moment of peace and facing inward!
