I Just Remembered

Rate this book
THE AMAZING THING ABOUT THE HUMAN MEMORY is that, just when one thinks one has recalled everything worth recalling, the memory regenerates itself and serves up a whole new eminently worthy batch. At least that’s how it works when you’re dealing with the legendary mind of Carl Reiner. In his 2013 memoir, “I Remember Me,” Carl treated us to ninety years of professional and personal anecdotes, ranging from witty, weird and heartwarming to insightful, informative, and always funny – usually a combination of at least two, sometimes three or four, of the aforementioned. Carl had taken us on a nostalgic trip through every corner, every nook and cranny, of his life. Or so we thought. But over the next two years, new “old memories” kept coming… and coming… and coming… until, before too long, another book was born. In addition to the above adjectives, “I Just Remembered” adds a whole new the mysterious saga of the gold money clip and the rubber bands; the beautiful and bizarre Joyce Kuntz; the shocking story of Jack Parr and Fidel Castro; never before heard revelations about William Shakespeare; whimsical journeys down the information superhighway via Twitter, Google and YouTube; and for good measure, truly useful health tips for a long and happy life. “I Just Remembered” is the perfect companion to “I Remember Me,” and it will have you asking, over and over,“How could he have forgotten that?!”He didn’t. He just remembered.

I am glad I downloaded this to my Kindle after reading Carl Reiner's previous book, "I Remember Me". Reiner shares stories that were coming to mind while his other book was going to press. This book is a very easy read and honestly I think a quick reader could pick up both books and finish them in a long weekend. A few of the stories are continued from stories in the first book. If you enjoy good funny stories than I really suggest checking this books out.

What if you knew everything and everybody? Then your name would be Carl Reiner. A quirky little book filled with nostalgia and funny tidbits of a wonderfully-rich life ... makes one slightly envious and in many ways long for the olden days

It's a blatant cash grab. The book is mostly short essays that were interesting. Then there was a chapter of Reiner's tweets. The book ends with a play which I mostly skimmed since plays should be watched, not read. Ultimately there were more boring than interesting bits.

After the enthralling 'I Remember Me,' I decided to give his follow up a chance. This is a much shorter, more disjointed, and less engaging book. It is still very funny, and very interesting, but it's also not as compelling and seems like a mix between a cashgrab and not wanting to stop doing something he's having fun with. That's great, and I'm not sorry I read it, but I think I'm jumping off the 'Remember' train with this one -- there are two more books after this one in his series, and I just don't think I'm in the market for them.

He is such a good story teller. The last chapter of his "play" was so funny. He makes a very good audio book narrator - even at 90 some years old!

🖋️ Quirky, fun, and informative is how I describe this book by one of America’s funniest entertainers. I enjoyed reading this tome.

🔲 Excerpt of note:
🔹 She was wearing an expensive looking waist-hugging dress and was flashing the broadest, whitest, most perfect teeth in the history of smiles. Her first words were delivered with the deepest southern drawl I had ever heard. They were: “Hiiyuh, Cahwpurull, wailcum tuh thuh Yeww Ayyss Ohw!” Being a fledgling interpreter, I quickly translated her words to mean, “Hi Corporal, welcome to the USO!”

Like listening to a conversation with a charming friend

When you have a conversation about unimportant things which happens often it can be enjoyable if the friend is charming and witty. Carl is both of these. There are laughs some interesting and sad times too. Just like in our lives. Liked the book but found the play at the end not very engrossing. Read it and find out what the life of a comedian is like.

I gave up!

If you like wordy schmaltz, you might enjoy Reiner's stray reminiscences. I found the book trivial, hammy, and boring. It seemed like he just wanted to pump out another volume of the few things he forgot to say in previous autobiographies...little throw away nothings. Sorry, but even the photos were uninteresting.

Exit smiling

The hearts of Carl Reiner fans will be warmed by this scattered memoir that feels composed of left over pieces of I Remember Me. Still, one can enjoy the time spent with one of the funniest, sweetest and gentlest of comedy writers and comic actors.

Will this ever get better?

There was a portion of the book that was good. The other 90% was awful. God bless him for being 92 but take a rest!
