Before I even start I'm going to warn you guys that this review will contain spoilers! I will try to hide some of them but regardless if you haven't read this book and don't want to be spoiled then please don't read this review. I normally do not do spoilers but this book really disappointed me so I feel like I have too.
Scarlett wants to run her father's company and all she concentrates on is work. That is until one night she meets Dominic and after the very first night they spend together Dom knows he wants Scarlett in his bed again. This is the first time Dom has ever wanted more than one night with the same woman since his heart was broken by a cheating ex fiance. The next day Scarlett meets the man her father chooses to run his company and it just so happens to be Dominic.
Now this book wasn't bad hence my 3 star rating. I liked it but there wasn't a lot of substance to it. The ending was so rushed and unsatisfying and basically fades away to another unneeded sex scene. I would have liked to have seen her father find out about them. I also didn't like The amount of misunderstandings between these two were ridiculous. It was so repetitive and annoying to see them together again, split up, get together again, split up.............ect......yada, yada, yada......shoot me now please!
This book had so much potential but it just didn't reach it. I would not buy the second book in the series because it's basically like a bad "b" rated movie. Low budget, low effort, and you have to lower your standards to get a satisfying ending. I'm usually a person who rates mostly 4-5 stars so when I say this is a 3 star read I'm being generous. If this author were to edit this book in the future I would be glad to reread and write another review. That's how good I think this book has the potential to be. Unfortunately I won't hold my breath.

Diana you rock!!! Another amazing story you got here.This book is for adults(yeah!)and of course, I loved it. I enjoyed it a lot because it is a very well written book, easy to read, full of humor and strong characters.The cover is beautiful and that guy is so attractive(drooling:))
The female character is Scarlett Wilson, a young hot girl with high ambitions and a pleasure for margaritas:p. She is smart and she dreams to head her father's company one day. One night she takes too much drinks with her best friend and wakes up in a stranger's bed...She runs back home hoping to forget that night and to never see that guy again. But,no such luke for a girl like her. That handsome man happens to be her new collegue in the company she works.And the hell begins...
Dominik Altier knows that his face can break hearts and his body can make any woman dependent of him and he likes that.He love to use his french accent to take beautiful girls to bed, but never in HIS bed, that place is sacred. Until he finds Scarlett. That girl is different, she has something that intruigues him and she is the first one who runs away from him. That's not possible! I mean, wtf? He just spent the night with her in HIS bed...that should be enough to make her beg for more, but no..she just runs away! How could he let this little sexy thing unpunished?Well..he doesn't!
So it begins...the hell, the torture,the fighting,the tension between them, the sparks. Reading this makes me think dirty, makes me wanna get into the book and teach that sexy-jerk a lesson:p, makes me wanna show him who's the boss in here:))He definitly deserved it.
If you think I'm crazy for saying this you would have to read the book to understand my attitude. But, in the end I love him. I love how he knows to make her want more,the way he fights for her. I have no other words to say. They are the perfect couple, strong, intelligent,honest.
In every review I make, I like to wonder some things, like a conclusion or like a thing I've learned from that book. So, from this one here, I wonder if we fight that much for our love, for that man or woman who makes us feel alive? Is the love enough in these days or there are more important things? Is it worth it?
I know I've said a lot about Diana Nixon, how I admire her work,how much I enjoyed her stories, but there is one thing that makes her very special to me: she knows how to show the most important things in our life. With every books she writes I get the feeling that she wants us to know that there are very big things that we forget:how to be kind, strong,how to love with all our hearts, with pure souls, how to forgive, how to find happines in every small thing.That's why she is so precious to me.

Esta historia tiene de todo un poco: romance, erotismo, un idiota sexy, una chica testaruda, situaciones incómodas y otras bochornosas, amigos/hermanos molestos, y una relación difícil entre los protagonistas.
Es entretenida desde el principio hasta el final, pasas un rato agradable y llegas a querer a los personajes, aunque en algún momento lo que querrás es golpearlos (solo para hacerlos entrar en razón 😁).
Me quedé con ganas de conocer un poco más sobre ellos, pero me gustó la forma de escribir de Diana Nixon, guiando al lector y atrayéndote a su mundo.

Young and beautiful Scarlett Wilson has engaged into a game with an opponent she surely underestimated. After spending one night with this beautiful French stranger she starts regretting not having control over herself, starting a game she is not aware of. Tired and with vague memories of her escaped, she has to go to work and meet the new head of her father’s company, a position she always wanted for herself. And so she meets Dominick Altier, her one-night stand.
Checkmate is a romance novel, written by Diana Nixon, the author of Love Lines series. The plot revolves around the tumultuous relationship between Scarlett and Dominick. He is the type of man who is accustomed to get everything he wants, is arrogant, smart, overconfident and, to Scarlett’s bad luck, extremely handsome. And they are so alike.
While reading this novel I felt like they are so bad for each other, still so good together and this has no sense, needless to say that I hated Dominick and Scarlett for how they chose to “deal with the problem”. You know in a normal relationship the partners must give in order to gain something, but in their case was only taking and no giving. You could actually feel the tension between those two. I felt like screaming at them every time and also laugh at how they always found something to block each other. Secretly I was hoping that the odds were in Scarlett’s favour, she kind of deserved to be the head of the company, because she worked really hard even though practically had no social life and somehow I saw myself in her so I was totally team Scarlett.
However, it wasn’t the game between the two main characters that I enjoyed the most, but the minor characters like Oliver. He is Dominick’s brother and a total sweetheart. I mean she may be a little too macho, but I loved how he sided with Scarlett and made his brother so angry, it was something I would pay to see on a screen, because it felt so real. As always Diana has succeeded to create beautiful characters, taking care that each one of them feels real. I always thought that the secret to write a great book is to put feelings into your work and dedicate yourself to the characters in it and this is what Diana has made all along.
There are several scenes in the book that I loved, still there is one which is my all-time favourite and of course has Oliver in his glory and it’s the first time we meet Oliver and also Scarlett has an encounter with him and Dominick which made the moment unforgettable. Just imagining the three of them in the same room makes me laugh.
Checkmate has everything to become a bestseller, because I am sure that a lot of persons will enjoy it as much as I did. It was like living through the characters, because you are introduced to both Dominick’s and Scarlett’s points of view, so you get to decide in which team you are.
I think all romance lovers should read this book. It is a nice lecture, especially now on summer when you have a lot of free time and just want to have a nice time.

Nothing gets the blood pumping more than a devilishly handsome man speaking French and a couple of drinks. Let the games begin!
Scarlett Wilson wasn’t planning any of it when she walked into The Black Rose (club) with her best friend. Needless to say she ended up alone until Mr. sleek, charming, and dangerous stepped up to the table. He couldn’t resist this vivacious woman and after a few drinks Scarlett wakes up in bed with the man and not the best memory of the night before. Talk about a nightmare!
She leaves and tries to return to her normal life of work until she meets the new man working for her dad’s company, Dominick Altier. Oh, she knows this man; he’s the same one from the night before. Now, with the world crashing down around her, Scarlett has to play Dominick’s mental and physical game.
These two were opposites and so similar with their determination and how hard they worked. The tension at times was dipping off the pages and then Diana tosses in these fun side characters and situations that are so humorous. Again I find myself naming one of her characters someone in my life. It would have to be Dominick’s brother, Oliver. Yep, I’ve got a BFF with his personality and I think that’s what draws people to Diana’s writing. To turn and look at the people in your life and see them reflected in Diana’s writing means the lady knows her stuff and how to bring that real world connection into her writing. Her characters make you smile, laugh, and get frustrated. They make you lust, crave, and desire in ways only a good book or a great lover can do. :) Man, I love a good romance.
Diana has put together another great plot building a relationship between two characters that I thought would become volatile, but in a way it worked. The characters grew to love one another with such intensity. Haha I think I probably would have burned Dominick’s office with him in it after he threatened her with blackmail. Yeah, you heard me. He tried to black mail our leading lady! Team Scarlett supporter here. But by the end I was so glad she didn’t. He really was made to be her equal.
I am never disappointed when reading your books Diana and I continue to wish you the best of luck in all your future works. Keep bringing the same passion and love to everything you create.

I was given this book for my honest review
He smiled leisurely. At the moment, he looked just like his brother. “I’ve always loved women like you.” “And what kind of a woman do you think I am?” “You are like wirepuller. You know how to make a man do whatever you want.” I smirked. “I wish you were right.” He laughed again. “I liked you at first sight. How can Dominick be so blind?””What do you mean?” “How can he not see that you are the woman he has always needed?” Banter between Dominick’s brother and Scarlett

Scarlett and Dominick’s journey reminds me of Twizzler’s licorice candy. When opening the package for the first time you get a sense of overwhelming proportion whether the flavor is of Strawberry, chocolate, black licorice or the aloof cherry that comes around every now and again. The smells are just entrancing it becomes so that the first bite does not want to be your last when the string of this delectableness is done. The treat is so addicting that the wanting of more is impossible to fathom. This is Scarlett and Dominick’s true journey.
The sex between this couple is off the charts readers. You will never see spaces in an office the same again let alone any other place you feel like walking around. After this read I promise you that you will see Scarlett and Dominick in at least one room that you take upon. The Dominant yet domineering Dominick is just sex on a marshmallow stick that you want to carefully lick upon and not miss an inkling in cleaning him up. Is the sex enough to keep Scarlett in the binds that are of Dominick or will other factors come into play to make this self efficient woman with the submissive side for which she does not understand be the explosion for which will bring her heart into a full freeze?
Will Dominick and Scarlett find their trueness of heart? You’re gonna have to pick up this read to find out.
To the author: Another hit of wondrous emotions…The passion that comes alive within the pages is just of volcanic eruptions. It’s like your characters invited you into their world for a short time and told the story of their greatest love between the two. While your readers will surely have a screaming towel on hand and ice-cubes a must I so enjoyed the greatness of the story of Scarlett and Dominick. Major Kudos

Letting go, just once, can certainly have its consequences! Scarlett Wilson finds herself one morning in a stranger’s bed after having been convinced by her best friend Jill that she needed a night out, to let loose a little. Scarlett is young, beautiful and driven…devoted to her work and one day running her father’s company. Problem with her one night stand’s is she didn’t remember much of anything that happened and she’d just as well leave it that way after she immediately bolts from the handsome Frenchman’s home.
If only it were that easy. Scarlett finds very quickly that her handsome Frenchman is someone she won’t soon forget, especially when he shows up the next morning at her father’s company – the new man her father hired to run it in his absence. Dominic is now Jill’s boss and co-worker and the arrangement is a little too close for comfort for Scarlett. She is determined to not fall for Dominick but they both quickly realize it’s impossible to deny. When he breaks her heart however, she leaves New York behind and both of them seemingly move on with their lives. Or do they?
Scarlett never planned this adventure and the author’s description of her thoughts on the one night with this handsome stranger is comical and enjoyable. The two were quite opposite in personality as she is just really out for a good time and he is really looking to heal some wounds. The author really put together a good mix of the characters; the supporting characters as well added a lot throughout the book which made it all the more enjoyable for me.
I really struggled for a bit – as I am sure the author intended – when Scarlett moved to the west coast. I didn’t want the characters to move on, I wanted them to make it work somehow, but it didn’t seem like that was in the cards. And honestly just an apology and an “I love you” wouldn’t have seemed appropriate given all the characters had been through in such a short time. While I am glad I made it to the ending and wasn’t jilted forever, I hope that the author will explore writing another book on Scarlett and Dominic.
If only it were that easy. Scarlett finds very quickly that her handsome Frenchman is someone she won’t soon forget, especially when he shows up the next morning at her father’s company – the new man her father hired to run it in his absence. Dominic is now Jill’s boss and co-worker and the arrangement is a little too close for comfort for Scarlett. She is determined to not fall for Dominick but they both quickly realize it’s impossible to deny. When he breaks her heart however, she leaves New York behind and both of them seemingly move on with their lives. Or do they?
Scarlett never planned this adventure and the author’s description of her thoughts on the one night with this handsome stranger is comical and enjoyable. The two were quite opposite in personality as she is just really out for a good time and he is really looking to heal some wounds. The author really put together a good mix of the characters; the supporting characters as well added a lot throughout the book which made it all the more enjoyable for me.

Cheakmate
Diana Nixon has done it again with her characters and storylines. She knows what her readers want to read and what she believes the characters need to sound like. Diana is talented to say the least and this series drags you in from the moment you start to the moment you get time the end.
Scarlett was a young up and coming business woman who had her heart broken one time. After this she found it hard to let anyone else in and took to work in order to keep her mind busy. When her friend Jill took her out clubbing one night she had no idea that she would be meeting her soulmate. The man that she would soon find out took her father's position at the family's company.
Dominick had been engaged to be married and had his heart broken never wanting to find love again. If only it was that easy to stick to the plans he made when coming back to the United States. He was all work and no play in his family's eyes until he meet his business partners daughter. Granted at first he didn't know that she was his daughter at first.
Both characters have been through hell and back together and on their own. Will love bring them together or will they drive apart. I guess you will have to open the book to find out.

A totally refreshing book . I came across this freebie and I enjoyed it. Dominic the French CEO who befriends Scarlett one night and discovers her as the Executive daughter of his retired colleague. Sparing words with Dominic makes Scarlett more hot, they can't keep their passion bottled. This couple have everything going for them, suddenly they get separated and move on with a new life. All ends well when they reunite in San Francisco and reconciled their differences and misunderstanding . Love conquers all !

Holy hell! This book was scorching hot! This is the hottest book written by the author to date. It was super sexy. And Dominick, possessive, drool-worthy, business man. I loved his alpha attitude when it came to Scarlett. Can't wait to read Oliver book!!

This is the first book I have read by this author. All I can say is this was a great read, a few spelling mistakes but didn't interfere with the story. I fell in love immediately with the main characters, she is sassy & bossy, but also vulnerable & caring. He is the alpha. knows what he wants and demands from everyone. This is a great story if not told before by others.
A few parts are predictable but does not deter from reading, there are a couple of teary moments, and the ending seemed a little rushed, but enjoyed it all the same.
I hope other books by this author carry the same kind of themes and alpha men.

LOVE IT
Almost perfect book ,hot sex ,drama ,BUT what I miss was a good epilogue ,it finished missing putting pieces together ,I think that means there's more books to come ,the chemistry between the 2 characters was super HOT ,another thing that I didn't like was that after some time apart when they see each other again they sleep together and everything is forgiven ,Dominick was selfish not thinking about Cadence and Scarlett was acting childish about the whole mess with the little boy and the ex and the feelings she had for Dom ,a little immature I think, but anyway I think I'll read a second book just to see how will end.

I was expecting more. I skipped thorough a lot because I couldn't get interested in the story. The best part of the book is probably the last 20%.
I thought Dominick came across as a 20 yr old frat boy. Not intelligent and not domineering in a sexy way. I could not connect with him and his heartbreak from a precious relationship.
Scarlett was a bit better... Until the author had her use "and frankly I didn't give a damn." Double order of cheese coming up! (Insert eye roll).

I'm not one for leaving reviews normally. despite being an avid reader, I am less than eloquent when it comes to writing so bear with me.
The story itself had promise but unfortunately the lack of substance let it down in a big way, this in itself wouldn't be such a bad thing if you're just looking for a sweet, quick read but what ruined it for me was the last 15% or so with the lack of morals or remorse from the main characters for their indiscretion. the rushed ending was unfortunate too, almost as though the author got bored and just couldn't be bothered.

What do they always say about Frenchmen? Is it that they are the best in bed? I wouldn't have a clue. I'm from the mid-west and have met maybe three French people in my life and none of them were hot men. But, Checkmate sure does give us a delicious glimpse at a sexy Frenchmen for this romance book reviewer!

This was a quick reading book with a lot of sex and very little substance. The main characters are constantly getting upset with each other over misunderstandings, then they kiss and make up and have sex again. I wish there was a little more to it than that.
