The first two seasons of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds were excellent viewing, so I thought that these stories would be worth checking out.
This graphic novel omnibus edition gives us four new adventures for the crew of the USS Enterprise, under the command of Captain Christopher Pike.
The artwork was very good & the two main stories (The Illyrian Empire & The Scorpius Run) were fast paced & entertaining. However, the two short stories (Facemaker & Yesterday's Shadow) were pretty dull & could have been left out of this otherwise enjoyable read.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Omnibus Vol. 1
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 out of 5)

A thrilling expansion of the Strange New Worlds universe, this omnibus boldly goes where the show couldn’t—into deeper lore, sharper stakes, and some delightfully weird corners of the galaxy. If you’re craving more Pike, Una, and crew between seasons, this graphic novel delivers with warp-speed storytelling and visuals that pop like a plasma storm.

Highlights:

• The Illyrian Enigma dives into the moral gray zones of Starfleet’s genetic policies, giving Una a compelling arc that’s equal parts legal drama and jailbreak thriller. The Pryllia colony scenes are tense and atmospheric, and the Vulcan meddling twist adds a layer of cosmic irony that Trek fans will appreciate.
• The Scorpius Run is pure space romp: think Fast & Furious meets Star Trek, with asteroid races, rogue pilots, and a crime lord’s deadly competition. It’s pulpy, chaotic, and fun—though occasionally leans more on spectacle than substance.
• The short stories, especially “Yesterday’s Shadow,” offer quieter, character-driven beats. Chapel’s gender-affirming tech subplot is a standout, weaving Trek’s sci-fi toolkit into a thoughtful metaphor for identity and transformation A.

Verdict:

While not every story hits warp 10, the collection as a whole is a strong addition to the Strange New Worlds canon. It enriches the show’s themes—exploration, ethics, and ensemble camaraderie—while giving fans the kind of off-screen adventures that feel both expansive and intimate.

Perfect for readers who want more cosmic dread, moral dilemmas, and starship shenanigans between episodes. Beam it up.

Happy reading and live long and prosper 🖖 📚
